I quite agree with The Lost Marunder.

Under fidlius charm you cannot aparate in or out of the house...but didnt the fidlius charm break after Voldemort entered the house? what do you guys think about this?

.... and James didnt have his wand so, no chance of him to apparate and I dont think Lily had one too otherwise she could have fought Voldemort... And also, as GryffindorChaser009 and IsObEl ToCkEr* mentioned, they wanted to protect Harry...but coudnt Lily had just taken him for side-along-apparation? ( if she had a wand, of course)

but it also occurs, that seeing Voldemort in their house, dispite so such charms on it would have freeked out anyone and so the idea of apparating didnt occur to them...

I think the whole story about James and Lily's death and everything that is connected to it is rather odd. But I can explain you why they couldn't disapparate.
Well it is really simple. None of them had a wand and without a wand you cannot disapparate! James was just playing with Harry when LV approached him and then he threw the wand aside and got out of the room. So the fact that he didn't have the wand with him is explicitly said in the book. Yet I just have to guess that Lily realised it too late that LV was there so that she probably didn't have her wand with her either.
I have to say that I find it rather odd that people who know somebody is trying to hunt them down wouldn't carry a wand everywhere they went. I know I'd carry something to defend myself too and be really cautious if I knew somebody wants to kill me. Maybe they trusted too much in the Fidelus Charm... unsure.gif

Yes, your theory may be right... but still we dont know for sure whether lily had a wand on her or not... its just an assumption.

I think the reason they didn't apparate was because of that stupid fidelus charm on the house. Why isn't there a charm so that you can still apparate out. Like in Hogwarts, any person in trouble inside the castle should have the right to disapperate out of there, but still have it so that no one can apparate in.

Excellent question. Whenever I read about their deaths, I got all caught up in the drama and didn't even consider that. happy.gif Well, looking back, I can think of a reason or two.

1. Where would they go? Voldemort was watching every one of their friends and family members and the order members. Even if they apparated to someplace out of the way or muggle-like, they'd have to go back to the wizard world, and then Voldemort would have them.

2. They're both Gryffindors. They might have thought that that would be considered running away.

as soon as i read 'why didnt lily and james apparate?' i thought there's a point...
but then they didnt have their wands james leave shis in the sitting room and lily doesnt have hers as far as i can rmeber... u need a wand to apparate

its taken my cousin ages to get it through her head that a wand is needed to apparate... spinning on a circle doesnt count and a random stick doesnt count either.... she realy thinks that every boarding school is hogwarts bless her!!! and that when she is 11 she will get the letter

There's actually a discussion about this in the "Those Unanswered Questions" thread, if anybody is interested it can be found here.

My opinion on this is that even if they had their wands, they wouldn't have been able to apparate. The Potters had the most complicated charms and enchantments, like the fidelious charm, on their home to protect them from Voldemort. From what I can tell almost every wizard home in the world has an anti-apparation charm on it. In HBP Harry and Dumbledore had to walk a few blocks from the Durselys before they could disapparate and then they had to walk a few more blocks from where they ended up to get to Slughorns house. Then in DH all of the guests had to apperarate to the top of the hill about a mile away and then walk to the Weasley's house for the wedding. The point I'm trying to make is that anti-apparation charms would be considered the most basic of protections, everybody used it. If thats the case, the Potters, who had the most complicated protections, would surely have something so basic.

Maybe the Fidelius Charm placed on the house they were hiding in kept people from apparating into it or out of it. I'm pretty sure that James would have left if he could, and Lily would have been smart enough to apparate away with Harry.

Maybe side-along apparation with a baby is dangerous? Maybe Lily and James would have rather died than leave Harry behind.

I had never thought of this before, but I think that the fact they hadn't their wands with them was enough as to retain them there. But James did have his wand: he was making puffs for Harry. Anyway, the way the Fidelius Charm works, it wouldn't have been possible. It's such a complex charm that it's not so easy to flick in and out it.
I don't believe Apparation could be bad on babies. If there's the side-long Apparation (was it called like that?), to allow you carrying kids or people unable to Apparate by its own, that wouldn't be a problem at all.

Before I found out you need you wand to Apparate or Disapparate, I tried hard to do it. I thought that becoming relaxed and trying to mix with the universe would make the trick sad.gif
