Ok, which is your favourite chapter in the book?

Mine is Spinner's End wink.gif

Its the 2nd chapter, but its really informative.
We visited Snape's house ( described as "Muggle dunghill" by Bella ), we learned more about Narcissa and the Malfoys, we saw Bella again ( mad.gif ).

When i first read it, i was sure that Snape is acting. When i finished it, i was sure, that he told the truth and he really works for Voldemort. But now, i think that he is somwhere between the two sides. He is neither on DD's, nor on Voldemort's side. I love his character even better after this book.

Dumbledore's_Hat
Totally agree with you on loving Snape more after HBP...even though he betrayed my favourite person! Oh well...

My favourite chapter is 'The Cave', I know, it's probably everyone elses favourite too, but I said it first!!! I love this chapter because of how much we realise that Harry is no where near advanced magically, especially when Dumbledore knows things about the cave because he 'knows Lord Voldemort's style'. Harry would never in a million years have known, and this sets up book 7 nicely for me, because I can specualte to my heart's content about how on earth Harry will make it!

Most of all, I love this chapter because the bond between Harry and Dumbledore has intensified, and you can really see their compassion. You also see Harry, an underage wizard show the same strength that Dumbledore possesses, at a time when Dumbledore gloriously exhibits his weaknesses.

It is a beautiful chapter, pinpointed by the fact that the two characters are doing a total role-reversal; the strong becomes the weak, and the weak becomes the strong.

Remember the line that illustrates it all:
" 'I am not worried, Harry,' said Dumbledore, his voice a little stronger despite the freezing water. 'I AM WITH YOU' "

I lvoe Dumbledore even more now than I ever did...you don't know what you've got 'till it's gone...

Hope this all made sense smile.gif
asa
mine would have to be the cave aswell

Please check out Hallia's post below. The rules page is here.

Hiya, asa!

As you've been here for over a month you should have read the rules by now. One liners are not allwoed, as there's not much to add to the discussion in just one line. Please elaborate more in the future.

I am not sure what it is called because I don't have the book in front of me, but my favorite would have to be where Luna is comentating the Quidditch game or The Flight of the Phoenix.
8thWeasleyChild
My favorite moments of the series always happen in The Burrow. That would make my favorite chapter (probably) A Very Frosty Christmas. I love the tree angel, Fleur's imitation of Mrs. Weasley's favorite radio program, and Harry having a home to go to at Christmas. Plus it was fantastic to see the new M.O.M. for the first time in action. A good chapter from my least favorite book of the series.

oh, i agree tongue.gif

i love the Burrow scenes, and that chapter is really good. i like it because Lupin and Harry are discussing his dad and i like how Fleur is imitating that stupid song. biggrin.gif
magic master
Well mine's 'The Lightening-Struck Tower'. I know it is the most horrible of the chapters but it was exciting and I'm sure we were not expecting what was going to happen!

It also gave us lots of questions to ask! biggrin.gif
marire
i think best chapter is Horcruxes. It reveals one of main themes in last book( the horcruxes of course) and the fact why Harry will fight with Voldemort: not because of probechy and what it says, but because Harry himself wants to. Its great that Rowling wrote it down, because thats what I've always thought too. It makes Harry even more greater, if I can say that.
...miia...
hi biggrin.gif

my favourite chapter is defenitly "The Cave". this chapter is the most emotional because of what dumbledore does to find the locket and to spare harry live, not letting him drink the potion, and also because of what he said in the end of the chapter:
"i am not worried, Harry," said Dumbledore, his voice a little stronger despite the freezing water. "i'm with you."

this book is amazing...i really loved it

my favorite... deffinitely The Phoenix Lament. Lupin and Tonks all the way, man! wub.gif

I'm totally stoked to find this thread, because I've been working on just that since I finished the book again... and again... and again. I've decided it's 'Sectumsempra.' Occlumency fascinates me anyway, and I love how Snape has been using it on his students since his first day on the job, probably. And Harry using Snape's own dark magic on his unsuspecting arch-enemy, and Snape knowing, is complete madness. Gives ya the chills. This is also when Harry realizes the true intentions of the Half-Blood Prince--it settles Hermione's suspicions, and sets up the HBP's mysterious character for the rest of the story. My close second is 'Horcruxes.' What a beautiful piece of work. Way to go J.K. cool.gif
Padfoot313
Completely agree with TAwney-owl, SeptaSectum was by far my favorite chapter, finally getting Draco after the train incident and Draco lying their helpless, and previously crying to myrtle it was classic, Draco deserved it and I can't wait to see his punishment in book 7.
SeventhHorcrux
I have got to say, one of my favorite chapters that hasn't yet been mentioned is the very first chapter, The Other Minister. This is probably because of a combination of the fact that when I read it I was basically shaking with excitement, and it just added a whole new element to the plot. It was so cool that JKR put the devestation of the wizard war into a muggle's point of view. It almost seemed to strengthen my hatred towards the evil side.
bubotuber_pus
I have a few favourite chapters, but the greatest will be "Spinner's End". I wished I had been able to know more about Snape's surroundings, so finally I could! It was extremely well written and interesting... And I was always curious how Snape behaves towards the other Death Eaters.
Krieltje
There are different chapters that I love, but my favorite was probably "Spinners End". It's because we see a different side of Snape, it leads us into his life. I was always wondering where he lived outside schooldays, almost all of my questions about him were answered in that chapter.
legally_blonde01
I loved several of the chapters in the book, so it's hard to pick a favourite. I really liked "Spinner's end" because you got to learn more about Snape and Narcissa Malfoy. "The cave" is also good because I loved Dumbledore's remark to Harry "I'm not afraide, I'm with you" The funniest chapter was "A very frosty christmas", I loved the gnome on top of the christmas tree, I laughed so much when I read it, and I couldn't get the picture of the frozen gnome in a tutu on top of the christmas tree out of my head...! biggrin.gif

Hello! I have never discuss on this 4um before. My name is Kinga, I'm 13 years old and I'm Polish. I learning English since when I was 7. I go to first class of grammar school. I love J. K. Rowling books. I read twenty-nine charper of Half-Blood Prince in english, of course. Polish version will be in 31th of February. I think that's all about me.

My favourite charpers in HBP are The Lightning-Struck Tower and Flight of the Prince, because I think is the most interesting.
crucio imperio avadakedavra
My favourite was..................... Not the cave too sad, not the pheonix lament to boring.
I really like when they use magic, it has to be The Lightning Struck Tower, its super when they fight the DE and Harry just running for Snape.

I think my favorite chapter is "The Flight of the Prince"

But I also like "Lord Voldemort's Request." This chapter shows us what LV was like before everyone knew what he was up to. And I love the part about his evil smile.
R3d L1nk
Horcruxes would be my favorite chapter. It gave fan fiction writers and us forumers something new to discuss, and gave the polt of book seven.
roonil_wazlib
My favourite chapters would have to be Felix Felicis, Sectumsempra (where Ginny and Harry get together!! ^.^) and The Lightning Struck Tower - but Felix Felicis wins BY FAR!!! The last chapter in my book are prolly covered with ink smudges from everytime I cried reading it, I swear. It's so, dreadfully sad!!

My least favourite chapter (no offence to Snape Lovers!!!) would be Spinner's End and A Very Frosty Chrsitmas. They are the most boring Chapters. I don't like the first one much either. Spinner's End is only interesting when Snoopie's explaining to Bella about why he didn't kill Harry and blah blah blah. The other two bored me to tears.

The book was phenomenal though. Definately one of my favourites.
Nawrehsuan
My favourite chapter in the book is Sectumsempra. I really enjoyed the chapter and I liked how Harry got revenge on Draco after the train incident, even though Harry had no right to go there.

My other favourite chapters are Spinner's End and The Lightning Struck Tower
KatyGranger
Well I for one loved the whole book smile.gif But I agree with the second post up there somewhere. I liked the Cave, no matter how devastating it was... "...Harry stared into the whitened face he knew so well, at the crooked nose and half-moon spectacles, and did not know what to do." sad.gif Waaaah Anyway yeah, I'm heartbroken, but it was a grand book and it gave me something to think about for the next two years of my life!!!
donnarai
mine would have to be ' the white tomb' its so well written the way jk describes everything is just so touching (feel myself welling up as i type sad.gif ) and when you read you can so feel what all he charecters are feeling i could feel my bottom lip going as i read through it sad.gif

i know it should'nt be my fav chapter (cause dumbledore dies ) but its just so emotional
Dumbledore's Widow
I really liked the chapter, The Cave. But, I also liked the very last chapter, The White Tomb because Harry broke off with Ginny. wink.gif
Frankly, after all the build up in HBP for Ginny becoming Harry's girlfriend, I was surprised that JKR broke them up. However, I was happy to see that she did so. I realize that Harry broke up with her for a noble reason and I can see JKR bringing them together in the final book. But then again, I can see where Jo will not reunite them in her final book. There are too many unanswered questions for me to even speculate which way JKR will go with H/G.
misshaunted390
hmm, favourite chapters...
well the whole book was cool!!!
i think my favourites could be... the lightning struck tower (sad, yes, but still a cracking chapter!), the cave (it was all very creepy but it was well written!!) aaand after the burial (i've never seen Harry think on his feet like that, and i loved Slughorn's attitude; and when Harry thought something like 'he must have got a lot of good-quality venom from Aragog, for Slughorn wore a satisfied smirk'). i thought that was brilliant, and so in character!!

oh yeah, and Sectumsempra too. Harry finally gets one over on Malfoy and gets together with Ginny at last. yay!!
Jeann
i really liked THE CAVE its so exciting...

i also enjoyed THE WHITE TOMB...

i was very depressed about what happened to dumbledore

i hate snape!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i hope harry would kill him 2gether with voldemort

thats all...

Not sure I can pick individual favourites but I think the first few and the last few were the best - as they tend to be in the HP series.

There were of course highlights during the middle (Riddle's past in particular) but Spinner's End and The Flight of the Prince were both cracking!
Zeph
Hmmm, this is a tough question, as there are many competitors.

Spinner's End, Flight Of The Prince and The Cave are all great, but I would have to choose Horcruxes.

Spinner's End reveal more through the later chapters, so it didn't amuse me that much in the beginning of the book as it did later on.

Horcruxes was a sort of beginning of the book's climax. The book was pretty much focused around the history of Tom Riddle and the actions of Draco, but it was first in Horcruxes is became clear what they are and what task lies ahead of Harry. It was from that chapter the action started with the cave, the death and Snape's flight.
WickedRomance
I have a top three:

A Very Frosty Christmas Because, the Burrow, Rufus Scrimgeour who has become my new favorite character, and the happy atmosphere... "Oh come and stir my cauldron..." tongue.gif

Sectumsempra Because Harry and Ginny get together, obviously. rolleyes.gif

The Seer Overheard More in depth about H/G, and of course, we hear about Trelawney (another of my favourite characters) and her sherry bottles. tongue.gif

Yer, i'm going to do it top three as well.

3. Horcruxes- This is definately the most important chapter in the series so far.

2. The White Tomb- The most emotional chapter, as the wizarding world says goodbye to a hero.

1. The Lightning Struck Tower- Perfect and Powerful, easily eclipses the ministry showdown.
El cheeser puff
Sectumsempra is deffentely my favorite chapter in HBP.

1. The fight with Malfoy and Harry is pretty cool.
2. I think its funny that Harry stumbles on where Malfoy goes when hes not on the map.
3. Harry kisses Ginny. I'm pro harry-ginny

heh

thats basicaly it.

cheese puff?

Dang a favorite chapter, thats hard, this book was awsome, I have three, one is Will And Wont, in this chapter Dumbledore confronts the Dursleys for the first time. I really liked this because he told them everything he thought, about how they treated Harry and also got a peek at the next book by knowing Harry will come back there until he turns 17.
The other one is the Horcrux chapter. Harry finally understands the real meaning of the prophecy, by a very touching and meaningful speach given by Dumbledore in which he explained Harry will not fight Voldemort not because the porphecy says so but because Harry will not rest until he tried to kill him.
And the last chapter is The lightning-struck tower, it just turns the plot of the book completely, it is very cool how Dumbledore confronts the Death Eaters, Draco and Snape and never showed a glinched of fear. I also love when in the Harry Potter books they answer all the questions that arise and in this chapter they did.
dippyduck
Mines has to be 'Sectumsempra' it makes you feel bad for malfoy then for harry because he isnt gonna get the girl but in the end he does. The kiss was a perfect end to the chapter..
parker
my fave's...i dunno the chapters...but the chapters where harry said he's dumbledore's man through and through to dumbledore....and the part where dumbledore said 'im not worried, im with you' to harry after they got the horcrux...i think those are the most emotional parts of HBP, very touching.........dumbledore loves harry a lot, he just dont want it to be SO obvious, he has faith in harry and he knows harry will defeat voldemort in the end.
HP number one Fan
Well. I cant really choose my favourtie Chapter but I can choose my favourites.

I liked Sectumsempra, The Flight Of The Prince, The Lightning-Struck Tower, Spinners End and Horcuxes. tongue.gif I love Spinners End though because we here about Snape and where he lives (it sounds like he lives in a grotty little pigsty if you ask me lol) but he is still my Snapey.
ronxdraco
My favorite is Felix Flecies(spelling?) and I LOVED IT!!!!!! It was sooo witty and Ron was awesone, and Harry was freaking sly in it and all.....so yeah deffinately chapter 14!!!!

<hr>

Favorite quote:

She's Ron's sister,
But she ditched Dean!
She's Ron's sister,
I'm his beat mate!
That'll make it worse,
But if I told him-!
He'd hit you,
But what if I don't care?!?
He's your best mate!!
Rory Taylor
I really couldn't pinpoint a favourite chapter in whole but there is a passage in the chapter Horcruxes that I like. It the last paragraph

QUOTE
It was, he thought, the difference between being dragged into the arena to face a battle to the death and walking into the arena with your head held high. Some people, perhaps, would say that there was little to choose between the two ways, but Dumbledore knew - and so do I, thought Harry, with a rush of fierce pride, and so did my parents - that there was all the difference in the world.

I think this passage sums up what it means to be in Gyffindor and it also reminds me allot of one of my favourite quotes from another book.

See my signature.

I like the second chapter "Spinner's end" because I love reading about Snape, and because it foresees a lot of events.
"The flight of the Prince" and "The white tomb" are really special and they made me cry. Well, to say the truth, I didn't stop crying until the end. tongue.gif
TheOneWhoHatesSnape

I think that are 3 important chapters: The Lightning Struck Tower, The Cave and A Sluggish Memory.

I like 1 of those 3: A Sluggish Memory because Dumbledore show us that he loves Harry very much:

'He acused me of being "Dumbledore's man through and through".'
'How very rude of him.'
'I told him I was.'
Dumbledore open his mouth to speak and the closed it again. Behind Harry, Fawkes the phoenix let out a slow, soft, musical cry. To Harry's intense embarrassment, he suddenly realise that Dumbledore's bright blue eyes looked rather watery, and started hastily at his own knees, When Dumbledore spoke, however, his voice was quite steady.
'I'm very touched, Harry'

I love Dumbledore!!! sad.gif

I hate 1 os those 3: The Lightning Struck Tower because Dumbledore die.

My favourite chapter is "The Phonix Lament" of course! It's the one that first time I'm going to cry sad.gif
But Horcruxes, specially the last pages are extremelly wonderful!
Just the Droobles
My favorite chapter is Sectumsempra, pg 533. Because that my friends is where Harry kisses Ginny and since I am for H/G that made me so happy. It was such a 'magical' scene. wub.gif
Jules62442
well my favourites would have to be Phoenix Lament and White Tomb, tww of the most emotional chapters throughout the novel.
Hargid's denial and greif was so heartbreaking.
hanisofia
my favourite chapter of hbp is felix felixis
Minerva76
My fave chapter was Horcruxes. Dumbledore's explanation of the prophecy in this chapter is magnificent. When Harry realized that he can choose what to do instead of it being foretold is priceless. It's the difference between walking into a colesseum as a prisoner waiting for death and walking in there willingly with your head held high.
rainyDay
well, at the first moment i'd say the chapter where bellatrix and narcissa visit snape! -spinner's end...- that chapter is fascinating!
but then, i think HBP is so perfect, i love the whole book! i think the chapter 'after the burial' is great too, when harry drinks the felix felicis!
difficult to choose, there are so many cool chapters in HBP and i simply love the book! wub.gif
idk
my favorite chapter was sectumsempra becausesnape knows where harry got the spell because well snape made it and harry used on his enemy draco

also that is when harry and ginny well started going out and they won the last quidditch game without harrys help
Horace Slughorn
My favorite chapter in the Half Blood Prince was by far "The Lightning-Struck Tower"

This Chapter was filled with all of the excitement, where the Death Eater attacked Hogwarts and all of the teachers inside. This chapter also had... Dumbledore's death... sad.gif Well overall, this is what I believe, to be the most exciting chapter out of the whole entire book! tongue.gif

-Horace Slughorn laugh.gif
Harpy
I know this will completely defeat the purpose of 'favourite' but I have a couple of them, and this book was just so good!

The Secret Riddle- It was really eerie to get a look at the boy Voldemort. The author started to develop the reason that Tom Riddlle has feared Dumbledore above other things. This chapter also boosted my interest in the novel because I realized that, "yes, of course, examining Riddle's past is the only way to discover his weaknesses" Besides that, I figured that there wouldn't be any confrontation with Voldemort in this novel and it's sort of a breath of fresh air, a break from the traditional potter book. Actually, that's the same reason I loved the third book, you expected a confrontation between harry and voldemort, instead you got something totally different! Back to the point, this chapter also had a darker side to it. Did anyone else get chills when Mrs.Cole was describing the many oddities of Tom Riddle? Finally, a slight tinge of pity for Riddle Jr. was gathering within me. If he had a mother, would things have been different?

Felix Felicis- Beause of what Harry did (or didn't do, depends on how you look at it) to help Ron, I completely forgave him for his obnoxious attitude in book five. Harry's cunning is not given enough credit!

Birthday Surprises- I was laughing so hard during the love potion phase. At first I thought he was going to say Hermione, I didn't realize the situation, but by making it Romilda Vane...oh, simply hilarious...of course I was down right shocked towards the end.

After the Burial- For once, things went right for Harry Potter! The meaning of luck was always sort of vague for me until that chapter, as strange as that sounds.

Horcruxes- Gave the whole series yet another flavour, if you get what I mean. It's ingenious really, although it makes you wonder how the discovery and destruction of four horcruxes can take place in only one more book. Oh yes, the end of the chapter, as it said in the book, 'was all the difference in the world.' Finally Harry realized what we thought all along (come on, we all imagined the final showdown between the hero and the villain, well before the prophecy showed up). The pace of dumbledore's explanation was done very well. It got me reading faster and faster until the same conclusion dawned on me as it dawned on Harry. Overall, it was one of J.K.'s finer points in the literature side of her books.

The Cave- For the same reasons as listed in the first person to say 'The Cave' in this thread. Aww, the last line was a tear-jerker....I love chapters that give depth to a character.

The Lightning Struck Tower- Seeing that vulnerability in Malfoy was intriguing. As much as one hates Malfoy, you can't help but pity him slightly. He may even have a good side, the last sentence on page 593 (American version) kind of supports that. At least he had the doubt, and that's what's really important. There's more to his character than yet to be seen...

That's it! Strange though, many of them come one right after the other....
