Okay, I have updated my signature to notify everybody about the new S.P.I.M.F. uprising, and urge every former S.P.I.M.F. member, as well as any new people who are interested to update your siggies and tell everyone you know!!
Now, who to talk to? I am going to go surf the net (haha...love to say that) to see if I can find any codes to allow certain things to have an "on-off switch" to make everything easier for everybody! later!!

"Urgent rescue mission" is absolutely right! When I came back (after along, gruelsome departure) I hadn't noticed that the footprints were gone until I saw "S.P.M.I.F." in David's signature. Then I figured it was high time to get down here and see what was crackin'. I am sad now because I really love our "muddy mates," as Razz calls them. I support S.P.M.I.F. one-hundred and ten percent, so I added S.P.M.I.F. to my signature! I really hope we can all work hard to find something to help us -- I'll search around and see what I can do. Keep it going, Razz!
Our muddy mates are missed much,

Wow, Louise is with us!! That must mean something, uh??
Come on, mates, we need to get the muddy footprints back. It just isn't the same without them. What's a Marauders Map without anyone maraudering around??
Support S.P.I.M.F.!! Bring back the Muddy Footprints!!

I really hope someone knows how to make those lovely prints "optional".

It's not the same without the muddy footprints. I don't know where I was the first time they disappeared, but I can't have been here or I'd have joined! But I'm joining now! Bring back the muddy marauders! *runs off to put it in her siggy*

there's me being too cocky i guess, like the siggy says, join the mob and fight the cause! I have taken my place as one of the first members of SPIMF, as i cant remember exactly what number i was!

Great! SPIMF is gaining speed. One thing that is notably missing is an explanation for the footprints' missingness.
I'm sure we're all aware of the explanation that was given that they were taken off in order to deal with technical difficulties, but the months long silence about the issue that has followed is starting to seem suspicious. I sense a conspiracy!
Why have we not received even so much as a ransom note? Do those responsible consider us so unimportant that they can't be bothered with explanations or apologies? If they're having difficulties in letting the footprints wander free again, do they think we're powerless to help out?
I know there are many members of SPIMF who would do all in their power to help with the restoration of the footprints. If those responsible are punishing us, tell us what we should do to bring them back. If they've run into some sort of wall in fixing the problems, tell was what the problem is and maybe one of us would be able to help out.
Show us the footprints!

I'm new as well... lol
It is just that... we have to do something to get those footprints back!!
Although poor Darren will feel so pressed now...

Ah! We're reforming!

How I've longed to to see us back when the dear, muddy mates disappeared on us, after fifteen pages of good, hard work.

It's a right shame it is...
ROTF!

Sam, I agree. If we're correct, there's a plot to uncover, and I suspect it's none too pretty...
A shout-out to all the new members reading this thread: Don't be shy! And don't think we've lost our minds(

)! The footprints once roamed this site free as any, but come slow connections they have once again been banished.

So all you newbies, help us out and join! Just slap a sign in your siggy supporting the prints!

Whoopie!! All our most loyal members are coming back, and some newbies too! Excellent! And Louise ... hehehe -slightly wicked laugh... we finally managed to sway you too! As you can see, I thoroughly excited about having you on board with us!! Welcome mate!
I just spent ages updating my sig to try and make it interesting enough to drum up the support we need. *phew*
I just had a thought earlier, my own brother is a programmer working with Java ... DOH! I wonder if he can help? I must email him asap!!
Keep it going folks, we have a long way to go yet!! But I think a logo or a slogan might be in order for our growing movemt. Anyone got any ideas? I've got one but its not very good, still I'll get it up as soon as possible. Seems to me the more interesting you can make your siggies about this, then we may be dragged, kicking and screaming to have a vote after we've won (the power of positive thinking) on the best one...
But woah! I'm getting way ahead of myself. Albus has filled my head with all sorts of possibilities, but for now ... We need more members, and support!!
What are you waiting for? You know you want them back, and when we win through, we shall have forged friendships through S.P.I.M.F. that will forever make us a part of something special. (Just as it did the first time round)

I am so stoked about this movement! I can't believe after last time we rallied they still ended up taking them away. I'm waiting breathlessly to see what happens. We've found at least 2 people that might know how to turn them on and off.
I'd join "the march" but I have nothing here. No pitchforks, no light sabers, not even a shovel! What do I have? *looks around desk* Hmmmm...I have a stapler!

Ah well..I of course noticed that they were missing before, but thought they would get up, and I do want them back, and I hope Darren and the admins fix the server or something.
Ooo, pie! I'm so hungry right now... *scounges off for some bread*

Jan 20 2006, 01:18 AM
Turning them on and off is being worked on. The real problem is the fact that the footprints are built on code that is not allowed by most browsers and not particularly found of on IE. the latest updates cause the code to behave quite strangely.
What I really need is an expert JavaScript coder. If anyone knows of one, please send them my way.
PS. Like my Avatar? - took AGES!

Aww, brilliant avie Daz!!
As I said before, my brother is a programmer and he told me he uses Java, so he might be able to help. I'll email him now. As I said before, I have no idea if Java and Javascript are the same thing, but I'll try.
Crossing my fingers!!
EDIT: I just opened your email Daz and as they are not the same thing he may not be able to help, but I sent him a mail anyway. So glad you've started work on it, and I know you loved those little footprints as much as we did, so with any luck, between us all, we'll be able to work something out.

Whoa, that is an amazing avatar, Darren!! Haha! Great!
So I checked the internet front and back for an on/off switch, and found some interesting things worth taking a look at, Darren, but I am not very good at programming, so I do not know if it will be useful.....I found it on Google, which I am sure you have looked through before, but if not type something like "html on/off switch" or something like that into the search bar at google.com......
But onto brighter news, my friend's brother is a computer programmer for......Apple? Yeah, I think Apple....and he speaks like 10 different computer languages, so I will ask him if there is anything he knows....
Just for clarification, Darren, what is it exactly that you are looking for? a Java code? What?

P.S.: love the siggy pic, too, razz! its perfect!

And I'm *well* impressed with the artwork in your sig too, Razz!!
Looks like the pressure has finally been yielded to, hey?!

ooh, count me in!! *jump into the wagon*

Hey, I truly had missed the footprints that had once roam the pages... it's kinda lonely writing in the reply box without having them walking about...

I remember trying to string words together into sentences but lost in a trance watching those footprints about the page.. they're really a loyal companion...
It's really a pity they had to be taken out because of the slow connection... Bring them back!! Bring them back!! Bring them back!! *keep on muttering like a mantra*

I saw Darren on here earlier, so I knew it was just a matter of time before we got a post from him.
So the problem's not about turning it off? That's good. Looks like if we find a solution to this problem, we'll get some fringe benefits as well. Firefox users, for example, will be able to see the footprints. Also, maybe other characters like Buckbeak or Prongs might make an appearance.
Anyways, Darren, maybe you should start up a thread to address the problem or post in here. You could provide a link that gives access to the troublesome code with an explanation of whatever it is you know about the problem. You said it's built on code that isn't allowed by most browsers? So if we just rewrite the code it's built on, then we'll have a solution to the problem? I'm sure this can be overcome in no time.
If you're worried about too many people having access to the code, then send it my way and I'll see what I can do. I've been meaning to pick up some Javascript experience anyways.

wow! SPIMF is really taking over VTM isn't it?
We've even made the members with higher powers join us! I mean we really have celebrities from VTM here now! Louise, Zyra... Darren!
jeez! that's great!
I really really wish I could help you with the code, Darren, but I know next to nothing about Javascript... I am learning, though. At least I sort of know the difference between Java and Javascript (no offense... to anyone)
And I know a guy who is supposed to be a programmer, but truth be told, he is not really good, besides he works basicaly with flash, dreamweaver, that sort of things...
Now, Louise's suggestion is not bad.. we should kidnap an expert... mwahahaha

that might work...
I think I have to wear SPIMF's uniform as well... I will change my avatar and siggie now...
btw, Razz, Darren: great work with the siggie and the avatar! They're great!!

then again, I rarely see him on the Forums...only if there is something very major that he has to address to...
BUT WAIT! This is major, no? We have practically all of Veritaserum on our side...members, Prefects, Mods, Admin, what more can we ask for to make it heard?
So anyway, can somebody please tell me exactly what it is we are looking for? A code for what? Java, Javascript, which one! Thnks, it will be much easier to find, and I can ask my friend's brother if I know!

Wow, Darren, that is a wicked-awesome avatar! I tried to use it, but I wasn't able to. Is there any way you can add it to the avatar gallery so that anyone who wants it can use it? Just a suggestion...
Razz, it is absolutely amazing how many people are supportive of S.P.I.M.F.! I made a bmp image on my computer and tried to load it as an avatar, but it wouldn't let me do that either. *sigh* It said,
Join S.P.I.M.F.
and help to
rescue our muddy
Marauder mates!
S.P.I.M.F. needs you!
Anyways, I am totally supportive of this society, and I really hope we all can help to bring back our muddy mates. And I have the same question as David. What exactly are we looking for? Because my dad just so happens to be a computer whizz so if I know what we're looking for, I can ask him to help us.
