Not to throw cold water on the topic but one thing to condsider with the footprints is what effect it will have on the site's response time. Right now the site seems to have problems during peek times. It acts like the server is just overloaded. I have been noticing this since the last server change.

As much as I want the footprints back, I would not want them brought back if it just expanded the problems beyond the peek traffic times. Just something to think about when working on the footprint problem.

Yeah Greg, I know what you're saying. I don't know for sure because I wasn't on, but it seemed the site was down for a while yesterday, just going by some of the posts, and that gets kinda frustrating, so I'm with you on that one, but that's why we need the footprints to be optional too.

Albus is working on it with some of the tech team and he's very clever so I'm guessing he'll keep all of that in mind.

padfoot, no word as yet, but they are working onit, however, we need to keep in mind these people are doing all this on their own time, so they probably need a bit of space to get it done. I have faith in them though, they all seem as passionate about it as we are, so cross our fingers!

I'm hoping the techies will post something in here soon to let us know how things are going...

I understand about the timing thing, razz. People actually have a life outside of VTM.

Well, I've got some possible good news and some definite bad news

Good news first. It seems I might be able to contact Darren about getting an option to turn the footprints on for people who are using IE, it seems the footprints are still playing havoc with other browsers, where in lies the bad news...

We still haven't managed to locate a Java Script Programmer, which means that even if the footprints do go up as an option, they'll need to be off as a rule, and only switched on by users who wish to see them and are using IE only.

I'll give Darren a buzz tomorrow, in the meantime, if anyone knows a JSP who might be willing to donate some time to our cause, please post here or contact Darren dirctly through either the staff page or PM, thanks

I was thinking of Snuffles yesterday. I was watching PoA movie (for the umpteenth[sp?] time) and when I saw the credits I cried: "muddy footprints!"
My sister look at me like I was crazy what does she know?
lol! and then I saw the little paws across the screen (I didn't even remember there were paws in teh credits!) and I cried: "snuffles!"
My sister asked me: "what's the matter with you?" I merely said: "er... S.P.I.M.F.?"
She said VTM is affecting me and my brain... probably it is, but who cares? lol!
She is as insane as me, anyways...

I can barely hear his deep barking now, as it fades into the distance of twilight. All is silent now, not a bark to be heard. Tears slowly drain from my eyes and trickle down my cheeks. I hang my head and sadly turn to walk away. I half-way turn back around as I hear a faint bark. I listen closely for the sweet sound. After moments of dreadful silence, I assume it is wishful thinking and continue on my way, in search of the JSP.

Don't worry, all is not lost! As Darren has said, he's still watching and doing all he can to get them back up and running. We're still banking on a Java Script Programmer suddenly manifesting and offering their valuable time to help fix the problem, in the meantime, I've been told it might be possible to bring them back as a screne option for those who select it. We'll see what Darren's got to say on the subject when he pops in. Albus has been working so hard trying to get the sequence to run on firfox, but it seems rather problematic.

Well, in times like this, fellow S.P.I.M.F.ers, we just have to hope for the best! And think on the bright side...we can still see our favorite little footprints on IE! Well, it surely is a start!
I have faith that Darren, Albus-wan, and Jason will be able to find a JSP and, in a collaborative effort, place our favorite snuffles into action once again!

Do you know, I had totally forgotten what the heck SPIMF stood for! I mean, I knew what SPIMF's position was, but I had trouble coming up with the acrostic. Sigh. So, I scrolled through the posts to Razz's inception and found it. Society for the Protection of IngeniousMuddy Footprints. Yay! Now I can at least sound like an authority on the issue when my husband repeatedly asks me what the heck it means while he's reading over my shoulder.

I havent been around for a while and im really disappointed. I though when i come back there would be tiny muddy footprints running all oven my screen.

In short, before, when you typed, snuffles you could see little footprints moving around the parchment,but they made the site load too slowly for those with slower connections, so they ahd to be taken off.

If you need anything, feel free to PM a Prefect for help.
