I had to vote Dumbledore because I was sooo upset when he died. I cried, to admit it. I felt sad about Sirius's death but I don't think that it was as important as Dumbledore's. Dumbledore taught Harry so many morals ect. but Sirius was just there when Harry needed a place to stay ect. Of course he was important and he meant the world to Harry, and he gave him so much good advice but not quite like Dumbledore.

I was one that voted for Dumbledore. His death really affected me and I couldn't help but cry, it was so sad! I was
shocked that Snape would actually
kill Dumbledore.
Sirius' death also had a profound affect on me as well. What was so devastating with both deaths was what Harry had to face, and how it affected him and his life. Dumbledore was Harry's greatest protector, and when he died it was a drastic loss/change to the plot. Whew. Sad.

truly i was supprised by dumbledors death, and it affected me by far the most.and even though sirius had allready died it didn't effect me untill later.and cedric kinda shocked me when i read the 4th book and i wasn't still as affected as much as when dumbledore died cause dd was so important to the whole story as the rest.2nd is sirius, even though he was closer to harry than harry was to dd he still is second in my book.

For me its definitely Cedric Diggory and Albus Dumbuldore. Both are really very nice personalities , And Dumbuldore is so important for Harry's life.He gave Harry's a new future and new life.

I totally agree with you about the age thing with Cedric, his death was also very tragic as it was the first we were made to dealt with on a personal level in the books. It also showed the complete anguish of a parent (Cedric's dad) at losing their child. It is never right when a child dies before a parent, it upsets the balance of nature.
I voted Sirius though, because it made it feel as though his life after prison didn't mean that much. I know that it did, but the emotion I was left with does not tally with the logic of the books. I hope he comes back just to make it seem like he really did have a purpose of spending more than a decade in prison, living as an escapee, almost dying, having a chance at getting his life back, losing all of that in a moment, and then having to live as an escapee in a house that he hates doing nothing worthwhile. Ugh!
There are a few redeeming things about his death: He died a brave death (as Hagrid eloquently put it), his death has enobled Harry in certain ways to dedicate more to the pursuit of the battle of evil (unless this has a dark side of the force twist to it), and it has taught Harry the importance of relishing and experiencing every moment of your life, because you never know when you aren't going to be able to say 'I'm sorry' or 'Goodbye'.

Dumbledore; if hes really dead. What will Harry do without him?!? Sirius' death was also very shocking and horrible. But Dumbledore's death had the most effect on me.

Dumbledore had some effect on me but I kinda saw it coming so It was a Great shock, but not a humungous one. Cause something like Cedric was out of nowhere. But still I voted for Dumbledore!

May 18 2006, 06:17 AM
Yeah, it was very sad when Cedric died... But he wasn't really playing an integral part in the series. He just sort of popped up out of pretty much nowhere for GoF. DD was obviously a horrible, HORRIBLE shock. He was guiding Harry through
everything, and his knowledge of LV and Harry's past/present/future is priceless and unreplaceable.
However, the death that affected me most was Sirius. Yes, DD was a great friend to Harry, and a good mentor. But Sirius was the closest thing to
family that Harry had ever had. Sirius was Harry's link to his parents and his past. Without him, in book 6, he is just sort of lost...

I'd have to say Dumbledore's death affected me the most. It was so surprising, very shocking. I've never been a fan of Snape and this just added to my dislike of him. When Cedric died in the book it was sad but I didn't cry but when the scene came to life in the movie I couldn't help but cry.

It was really hard because I was affected by the deaths of Sirius Black, Albus Dumbledore and Cedric Diggory.
First is Cedric's- it was kinda shocking because I never thought
Cedric, a non- main character will die in the hands of Voldemort. I was expecting other deaths in GoF.
Next is Sirius'- he's my favorite character. I was really shocked! Of all characters, why him?!
And Professor Dumbledore- same reaction like Sirius... why him? Sirius and Dumbledore are a big help to Harry.
I didn't vote. I was a tough one.

Well, this is a tough question, but the answer is quite simply Dumbledore. All you have to do is break the question down.
Frank Bryce was a muggle who really had little to do with the story, except introduce the audience into GoF. His death meant nothing to the reader nor the characters.
Professer Quirrel may have been the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, but he was an actual advocate of the dark arts. His death really didn't mean a thing, except that Voldemort didn't have a host human for him to be parasitic to.
Lily and James Potter's deaths happened at the beginning of the PS/SS. We have never been totally introduced to the characters, outside the scene in Snape's pensive and stories that others have told Harry. So, honestly, although it affected Harry greatly, we as an audience are not moved too much by their deaths.
Amelia Bones is in the same category as Lily and James Potter are. We did not her too well; the only time that we actually meet her in the OotP, where Harry's on trial. That's about it. Sure, we can at least tell that she believes in true justice, since she was willing to at least acknowledge Dumbledore and Harry.
Cedric Diggory's death did hit the heart, but not as hard as others. It was heartbreaking to see Voldemort (or Wormtail, really) kill the innocent boy. However, compared to people who are really close to Harry, this was nothing.
Sirius Black was definitly a hard loss. He was such a chasimatic guy, and he was very well loved by the audience. Plus, he was very close to Harry, so we got to know a lot about the guy. Many of us couldn't believe that he died the way he did. Now, as hard as this was, it was nothing compared to Dumbledore.
Albus Dumbledore was the leader of the free Magical society: He was a great man who fought for justice when others would have quit. He was known to be the only one that Voldemort truely feared; this made him a sort of "beacon of light" when the times were dark. Hogwarts was a safe place for children, who were learning to combat against evil forces. However, his death meant that these protections are gone. Voldemort can feel free to attack Hogwarts because he doesn't have to worry about Dumbledore anymore and he underestimates Harry. Also, Dumbledore was Harry's mentor, and with his mentor gone at a time he needs him most, Harry's going to be at a loss. The affects of Dumbledore's death can be seen across the magical community, which is why his death affected me more.

I picked Sirius because he could have tooken care of Harry and is like a parental figure that Harry had. I would have picked Dumbledore but, no matter how much I would want him alive, he was going to die sooner or later. He was very old, and has watched for Harry for a very long time, but I was hoping that when he passed, Sirius would take care of him.

Dumbledore because he was guiding Harry and helping him so much. Harry could always go to Dumbledore when he needed advice or had a question. Not to mention how friendly he was. It just tore my heart in two when he died.

Dumbledore was one of my favorite characters and when he died the biggest help Harry had was gone. Dumbledore knew that Harry had to kill Voldemort, but he could have helped Harry by fighting a bunch of the death eaters or something like that. But after Dumbledore died and I finished reading the book I didn't read any of the books or watch the movies for a real long time and normally I am always reading a Harry Potter book. It wasn't untill GoF was out in theaters that I did anything non-HP related. I was kind of sad, but know I am back to my usual self, but yeah that definatly affected me the most.

Albus all the way. I had a feeling that he would die but how he died was what really upset me. I cried so much it gave me a headache but I continued to read until I finished the book. I was planning on reading the book again right afterwards but couldn't. I didn't read anything for two weeks and then I picked the book up and read it again.
I had a feeling that Sirius was going to die in OotP and it was upsetting but not as upseting as Albus.

Doubledore was really hard for me to handle especually after the whole "i'm doubledores man through and through." thing it was like omg he's going to have to just deal and try and firgure things on out on hid own! But Sirus was really hard too but you know I heard that there will be two deaths in the next book I'm sooo anxouse to find out who it is I'm a little worried though what if its Ron?

Anyway can Harry talk to Doubldores portrait?

Definately sirius
I was moved when reading about Cedrics' fathers reaction to his death, the death and Lily and James has been crucial in the book and several events (such as The Mirror of Erisad (sp?)) concerning their death has been so touching and Harrys emotional journal with regards to his parents is incredibly deep. Dumbledores death was emotional, specifically the sacrifice he made but he accepted it.
but the death of Sirius was still the most shocking for me
He is my favorate character, he signified not only a link to Harrys own parents but was also a father-figure in his own right, he was so brave and loving and loyal. Its seems like his whole life has been a sacrifice for someone else - the years of torment by his own family, the imprisonment in Azkaban, his subsequent 'imprisonment' in his own house, and finally his untimely death - it is so tragic. It is even worse that the language used to describe him was so full of life, he was a joker, a scallywag and bad-boy (and thats why most of us love him

), full of spirit and energy and such love.
He would have given/done anything for James and, in turn, Harry.
His death seemed so unfinal, unjust and sudden (which is how death can be) - it is almost like we do not have 'closure' because of the bizarre circumstances surrounding his death.
As soon as HBP came out I skimmed through the pages quicky prior to actually reading it in a desperate search for some sort of Ssirius came out of the Veil, carrying a cheesecake and a broad grin' (well something like that anyway

), and felt like he had died again when there wasn't

Dumbledore. No question.
He was a driving force from Day 1. He watched over Harry as a baby, kept him out of trouble at school, headed the Order of the Phoenix, and tracked down Horcruxes. He is responsible for showing Harry the way to his destiny. Dumbledore was without question the leader in the war against Voldemort.
His death left me crying and sulking for days. I was very shocked that Rowling would kill off such a beloved character.

Later, however, I knew there was a reason.
The reason? The world must turn to Harry to lead the war against Voldemort!

Well Im kinda saddened that Cedric died, like of course the best looking kid always dies.. I was expecting that somehow he would come back alive or something, but no..
Also Sirius was pretty upsetting, if it wasnt for Sirius.. Harry would be lost in confusion.. as goes for Dumbledore, Kinda wierd how the first Dumbledore dies then the next one dies in HBP.

The death that affected me most was Dumbledore's. I mean, he's the only one Harry could truley look to for help, and now that help is gone. We all want to know how Harry can get through without him, and that's prolly what JK Rowling wanted. *grumbles* I just don't see how Harry's going to make it through without Dumbledore to guide him.
Sirius was pretty bad too, because it was Harry's last chance to have a real family outside the Dursleys. Plus, now no one writes to him , and that made Harry very lonely.

Hmm..well previously I was going through a rough part in my life, a very rough part, it made me less emotional and I was literally terrified of showing emotion incase I got hurt or felt torn into pieces inside. I didn't like showing emotion, it was my worst fear. Now however, with counselling and a reality check, I am nothing but emotional, I will cry at anything. I cried at Billy Elliot at the end when his family were so proud of him and his dad was crying. I am a realy cry baby now and I love feeling emotion, even the bad ones. The bad ones make the good ones worth feeling. When Dumbledore died, I cried my eyes out..I had snot pouring out of my nose, I had tears pouring down my face, it upset me alot. But before in my rough patch I couldn't care less that Sirius. Now however I get upset everytime I read that part. So both deaths affect me.

Definitely Sirius.
I new that a major character was being killed off but it was still such a shock. Poor Harry, just when he thought that life was getting better someone else who cares for him dies.
Dumbledores death was also shocking, but I'm still not overly convinced that he has gone for good or that Snape is evil.

Yeah, I don't think he is truly gone. His physical body might be gone but his spirit will be with Harry and the wizarding world forever. I don't think we have heard the last of Dumbledore though.

I don't think we have seen the last of DD either, which is why I chose Sirius over him. Sirius has always been one of my favorite characters and his death was so fast and shocking, I knew someone was going to die but I didn't expect him to. He meant so much to Harry and the fact that he died a guilty man was horrible!

His death affected me the most!

I'd go for Dumbledore's death - purely because he is such a huge charecter and had been in all the previous books. Also, it left so many unanswered questions about Snape's loyalty. I suppose we will ahve to find out how Harry was affected by it in the final book.

The death which affected me the most was DD's death, because he was such a great wizard and though Harry's connection to his parents and Sirius was much stronger, he lost a good friend with DD dying and a great help in the fight against LV. The funeral of DD was so hard to read... :'(

ughhhhhhhhhh

...Dumbledore....
It is a most tragic story... my reading of his death... we were driving from maryland to home(pennsylvania) and we stopped at a store to do something... I forget.. but I decided to stay in the car to finish my book... why I didnt ask for the car keys for the Air Conditioning, I dont know, but as I read about Dumbledore's death and then his funeral, the fatigue from the heat and the sadness of the book had the tears streaming. I would regard myself as a pretty emotional guy, I grew up with my mom and grandmother mostly... and my Pap, so being emotional is not new... but I never cried over a book before. Its just that Dumbledore had always been my favorite character, and still is, and his funeral is so hard for me to read. I am honestly not looking forward to seeing HBP in the theaters... I am going to cry, i know it. Right now I am working on editing a slideshow of Dumbledore and the song I am using is "If I could be where you are" by Enya.... I find myself blinking my eyes alot to keep me from watering....
I will most likely put my slideshow on youtube when I am done.. so maybe I will stop back to post the link....

My slideshow is not that great... at the time I posted my last post on this thread, I planned on using clips from the movies... but the person I lent ALL of my movies to isnt calling me back... but I was desperate to get this song out... this song by enya fits perfectly and I set it to a few pictures that arent of very good quality. Th slideshow is basically to get you in the "mood" and "mindset" of mourning for Dumbledore... but focus on the song... THe song will finish long after the slidesow ends... when I get my DVD's back, I will make a new one!!

For me, in the movies, so far, it's Cedric Diggory. It always brings tears to my eyes when i hear his dad cry...
But for albus dumbledore, i was more shocked than sad when i read it. I was like WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED? Am i still reading the same book? what's going on?? I just couldn't believe it that Snape killed him... i swear i must have sit there for about 5 minutes, with my mouth wide open, flipping through the pages trying to figure out what happened. I knew he would be a character who would die eventually, just not by snape's hand... it was so unexpected!
But the death that did touch me was Sirius. It was not when he died itself, it was more because of harry's reaction, how he couldn't hear anyone else, how he was just boiling with rage against Bellatrix... It would have been exactly what i was feeling if i had been in his place, and i think that's what touched me the most.
So i voted for Sirius.

Of all of the deaths thus far I would have to say that the death of Sirius Black affected me the most. One second he was there and the next thing you know he was just... gone! No body, no blood, no nothing! We don't even know what happened to him

He just vanished into thin air, it seemed... I believe that is why no one can accept that he is truely dead.

Dumbledore's, definetly.
I will never forget when I read that part, I had to stop for like a minute. I cried so much

, besides, I read from "The Cave" to the end, and the worst was reading "The white tomb" it is at the same time beautiful how Jo describes it, but at the same time so terrible.
Besides, Dumbledore was the only one Voldemort ever feared, now that he's gone, the magic world is going I don't know where, he will kill and torture freely, it will all be chaos, I don't understand how Dumbledore could've let this happen, because I'm sure that he knew that he was going to die.
Now everytime I re-read one of the books and Dumbledore appears I cannot help thinking about his death.

i reckon frank bryce coz hes an innocent muggle whilst the rest were all in on the war somewhere along the line and actually had a chance at defending themselves with wands. Frank was just a wrongly accused innocent who got in the way + the fact that it happened at the very beginning of the 4th book which was something big as most of the deaths tend to happen right at teh end.

When Sirius Black died it was pretty sad. He escapes prison and nearly is proven innocent but then everything goes wrong. He has to stay hidden and can't do anything for the next two year. He has to live with Snape's provocation and not being able to do too much for the order...and then he dies.
