Hey everyone! I was just wondering, does everyone have a best friend that they can tell EVERYTHING and ANYTHING to? And how long have you know them?
i for one, have the bestestestestestest friend in the world. and i have known her since i was...um...well i dont remember, i think since were about 5

hmmm my uber bestestestest friend huh? well I guess i dont really have one im one of those people with 5 or so good friends that ya dont see very often and a new set of friends every grade/semester/week and once ya get a really great friend they move far far away but my uber-estest bestestest of my friends (if i have to chose) is THE BEST she is awesome wonderful and FUN, she also lives in another state hours away yeah, so thats my friend i guess

yeh i have 3- and they are all the best! we go loadsa places together and have gr8 fun. we can tell eachother everything and always no how to help the other out. my best mates are the best(lol) and id never change them! (corny, i no!)

i have several close friends, and i really dont tell them anything that goes on my mind. but there are two that will slap me silly until i tell them something.

i knew her since first grade, but i thought she was a bully. i still hung out with her anyway since she was 'interesting'. we became friends by just hanging out with each other the whole day for the next three years, so we just basically became the best of friends. we talk about everyday stuff, say mean things to each other but never mean it, and help each other whenever we can. we fight, but i end up feeling like the worst person in the world afterwards. she's just so different from everyone that she's just one of the coolest people that i have ever met. words just fail to describe how much she means to me. she is vain, whiney, omniscient, loud yet very very quiet to the bone but she is still just so f****** cool when you get to know her. whenever i have a stupid question, i'll just ask her and she'll answer it, not thinking that it is a stupid question. i was really happy when i found out that she was going to the same high school that i was.

this best friend...i knew him ever since second grade, but we became best friends in fifth grade by hanging out in lunch together. he is intelligent, funny, adorable (in that baby kinda way), oh so caring, extraordinary, sweet, and all these other nice words for describing awesome people. he's the first person i run to when i cry, or need someone to talk to asap. he'll listen, because he wants to, not because for my sake. and that's why i love him so. and of course, since he is one of the members of the opposite sex, people would come up to us and ask, "OMG, ARE YOU GUYS, LIKE, GOING OUT?" and of course, will say "OH COURSE NOT!" i hate it when people do that. just because i hung out with him everyday doesnt mean that we dont have a platonic relationship. i felt miserable when i found out that he wasnt going to the same high school as me, but we sorted that out. he's in this forum, can you guess who? lol

us three have coffee almost every week at starbucks (lol) and just talk. whenever i feel down, these weekly meetings cheer me up instantly. i love these guys so much that i would really die for them.

Well, I have 3 best friends.. 2 girls and a guy.. (yup, I have a guy best friend & noo, he's not gay..) my two girl friends are like ultimately the ones I tell my problems to.. my guy best friend on the other hand.. tells me everything and vise versa. I love all of them dearly.. but on most cases.. my guy best friend is more understanding & whatnot.. which is weird cuz he's from the opposite sex!! Heh, well.. I love them all w/ all my heart.. that's all I can say.. (ok, I'll stop w/ the corniness)

I don't have a whole lot of friends, about 2 years ago, Andrew, the guy who I considered my bestbestbest friend, and I was in love with, which was annoying as I shared a flat with him, I did something to completely screw up that friendship, and ended up quite not-sane from it, so I've been kinda...wary....of becoming too close friends with anyone unless I can truly trust myself not to screw them over, cos I ruin things...heheh...

I have a bestest friend. Her name is Alyssa. I've known her since 7th grade. I'm now in 10th. At first I really didn't know her. We tlaked a little bit. Awhlie after that we were friends but not best friends. About 7 or 8 months ago we became great friends. We have a lot in common. SHe loves Harry Potter and LotR too. I'll tell her just about anything. I don't think I've ever had friend like this. She is my bestest friend in the whole world.

i have other best friends too. that i tell ANYTHING to. i started hanging out with them in grade 7, and now im off to grade 9, but we spend a lot of time together (when im not with alie ) and im not afraid to do somehting embarrassing in front of them, like burst out in song. well, all of us to that together actually. and we're such great friends that...its great.

Ya. This next weekend I'm going to Six Flags with Alyssa. I've never been on a rollercoaster and planned on never going on one but she asked me so I said yeah. I'm a little freaked but she keeps saying I will be next to her. She says I could ride with her dad too but the way she says it, I don't think so. That would make it worse. I wouldn't go if she wasn't my best friend and I trusted her.

What's a true friend like? I would really like to hear what your true friends is like, or should be like. I'm going to write a e-mail chain letter which tells what a true friend is like. Well, I don't expect nearly that much from a good friend! IMHO, no one should have to stick up for me if I won't do the same for her, nor should I expect her to wait hours for me, or sacrifice everything for me. I've had friends and boyfriends who expected that, and it's just too much to ask of anyone. I'm not friends or lovers with those people anymore. They are too selfish to be good friends to ME! Or maybe I'm too selfish to be the kind of friend they want? Hmmmm....I guess it's all individual.

My signature aside, a good friend listens. A good friend listens and doesn't blab what you say to other people.

A good friend understands. They understand when you need to vent, or when you're exhausted and need help. They usually know you so well you don't have to tell them when you need help--they just pitch in, like when Hermione helps Ron with his homework just at the point when she knows he's about to give up.

A good friend is reciprocal. With my best friend and me, there are times when she needs a shoulder, there are times when I do. Somehow we always find the energy for each other. We are each other's oasis in a harsh world.

A good friend knows your faults and accepts them. A good friend gets a kick out of your habits or hobbies. My best friend thinks it's cool that I like HP and LOTR, and I think it's cool that she's got a Romano-British obsession, and that she belongs to a society for people who think that Richard III is innocent of the murders of the princes in the Tower.

Hmmm... good friends. My best friend has always been like me. The most important thing for me is that they like to have a good time and don't take themselves too seriously.

There is a time for serious... it is not every minute of every day. Also they can't be perfect... because I'm not. Faults are ok, they are what make you human. you will always be disapointed if you set the bar too high.

thats it. pretty basic. loyalty to stand my my side when i need them and stick up for me. My best friend is the boyfriend, hes my everything. And he loves chinese food!

A good friend is someone who gives you the same amount of respect you give to him/her.


Respect covers many things, it also goes a long way.

When you respect someone, you aren't going to blab their secrets, you aren't going to look down on them, and so on.

That is all I would really want from a friend, of course it is the bonuses that make it something extra special.

Ah, my big rule in a good friend right now is that a friend should care more about the other person's happiness than their own. I'm also big on loyalty, respect, and laughter, but happiness is the main one.

Of course, I have many true friends that's not like what I have written, but anyway, what I wrote is for many people. My true friends doesn't need to be like that, but for some that is important, and for others this is important... if you understand what I mean?

Anyway, as Keepstar said, no-one is perfect. Not a single person, and we're not humans if we not make mistakes. I have many true friends, and they make me laugh. Always. That's important for me, that and that when I'm with them I feel safe. If I make a fool of myself, they just say that it's OK, and that everybody makes mistakes. And that they trust me, and I trust them. That's the most important for me. And that we don't have too different personalities.

But I wonder, do you see yourself as a true friend? Do you know that you don't give away your friends secrets? And are you funny? Be honest, and don't say, "Oh, I'm not a good friend," 'cause I bet you are. You just have to find the right person to be your friend. Not everybody is bestfriends, that's a fact. I know many people that I'm not very good friend with, 'cause we don't have the same personality. But I try to be nice to them, anyway. I'm trying to take everything with a smile, and try to calm down when I'm getting too angry. I don't want people to say, "Look, there's that angry girl, best to keep a distance between us, or she'll bite the head off us." How nice is that? I want people to like me, even if I'm not perfect ('cause I'm not). We all have some bad days, and I'm trying to accept that, as other people should accept that I have some bad days. And when I have bad days, please don't be to angry with me...

Well, anyway I think I am a quite good friend. I laugh a lot, and I think I help other when they need help. What about you?

I have something to say Hehehe, I think I talk a lot. I still stand by the idea that a true friend puts someone else's happiness before their own. I think I'm a bit stuck on this idea right now because one of my friends is being very resentful towards another friend because she wants to transfer to a different college. But it's four years of her life! She can't just stay somewhere where she's not happy because her friend doesn't want to be lonely. Lonely girl needs to put transfer girl's happiness first.

As to whether or not I am a true friend? I think I am. I'm there for people when they need me. I'm loyal and fun and all that. My question is whether it's possible to be a true friend to someone that you don't really like. I'm sure that you have people you hang out with that you don't like, but they don't know that you don't like them. If they need you, can you get past that and be a true friend to them?

I always found it hard to explain what a real friend's like.
But to answer one of your questions first: yes, I do consider myself as a true friend. Why? that story is too long to explain, most people will consider me as a true friend, while I just consider them as a friend. I only have one true friend, so I’ll use her as an example

She has to be loyal, honest and respectful. She’s there for me in hard times and I feel comfortable when I’m with her. it doesn’t bother me whether she makes me laugh or not, it isn’t important for me because I can find a good laugh in almost everyone (even I’ve got to dig deep), and her interests aren’t that important either (opposites attract?)

Can I be a true friend to someone I don’t like?
To be honest, no I can’t be a true friend to someone I don’t like. But that doesn’t mean I can’t act like one. If someone needs help, support or is feeling down, I’ll be always there for them. And in that case it doesn’t bother if it’s my closest friend or my biggest enemy. Many people won’t understand that, but that’s just the way I am.

you know, these are great words. Hm. I think I never had a best girlfriend, and I never will, for I just seem to be the kind of woman that gets along with men so much easier and frustrates over... you know, typical girlish behaviour. *lol*
So I guess you'll rather find me out there changing tires clinging to a beer instead of shoping for ages, making sure none of my nails breakes. *lol*

But being a true friend doesn't have to do with gender, I guess. In my whole life, it always seemed I was te only one who struggled. And I always had people who were there and listened to me, told me their point of view and helped me cope with my situation.
Just like today - I basically had a mental breakdown at university, and my boyfriend and another friend skipped their classes until I was halfways calmed down and able to breathe again. I think this is just what true friends do, right? They are there for you when you need them.

I know I would do the same for them. And for me, being a true friend starts with being honest. It is hard... I know. Especially if you have to tell friends things they don't really want to hear. But somebody has to. And if even your friend doesn't do it - who will?
I know people came and asked me for advice in... rather delicate things. And they know that even though I am talking all the time, I will keep it a secret - and tell them my honest opinion.
So I hope some people do consider me a true friend, because if there is one thing I have to admit, it is that I am always true.
First of all, I can't look into the mirror if I lie to people, I am most likely to have trouble sleeping until I sorted it out and it's just so... not me, I guess.
And then, you could tell from my face if I wasn't true. I might be okay on stage - but I am a bad actor in reallife. *sigh*

I think I can be a... if not true friend, at least a good one, against people I don't like. If someone needs help, I will always be there for them, wether I like them or not. I like helping people, so it's a part of me to help them. If they're my bestfriends, I help them. If they are someone I don't really know or don't like very much, I help them. If I hate them... well, I don't hate anyone, so I can't answer that one.

I don't have a bestestest friend, cos I have like eight really good friends. But I can't tell all of them everything. Oh, but I have three that are really close. Two of them start with an "A" and one starts with an "X". One of them goes to a different school, the other two are in the same school and class as me.

Here are ways you can tell if someone's your best/true friend:

*They don't care how you look. A friend is someone who can look beyond the exterior and find the true self inside you.
*They love you no matter what. A friend loves you even if you have flaws or are different from themselves.
*True friends will always be there for you no matter what the situation.
*Best friends can trust you with most of their secrets. They are not afraid to show their true feelings in front of you, not afraid to cry, to be excited.
*They have flaws, they are not perfect. They don't care about your flaws, you don't care about theirs. To eachother, you are just friends and damn proud of it!

I have a lot of freinds, and it's hard to choose my bestfreind, but I would have to say Greta and Arpi, and Sassoon, three kids I've known since we were all in diapers. We've grown up together and like family. I can tell them anything, but Arpi moved away. Our sister to sister connection just broke and we sorta split apart as best freinds. This happened when we were young. I think that girls pick their friends differently then boys.

Since she moved away since I was so young, I forgot how she was toward me. All we did was play around, and as a teen, we need to talk about our life and stuff, and I talk to Greta about that stuff, and she feels fine with it, and me too. Why not Sassoon? Well, he's a boy.

Ah, my best friend has to be...Megan. It's weird cuz MY name is Regan, sooo...lol...and we used to look EXACTLY alike. We both have freckls, longish hair, and bluish eyes. But I have red hair, and she has dirty blonde. Her own grandmother called ME Megan one time...

Anyways, Megan kinda "completes" me. I'm loud and outgoing, she's quiet and a bit shy. She plays flute, I play trumpet. Shenever gets mad, me, i'm a time bomb! lol

But we both love HP and reading, and we have the same taste in books. It's really cool.

I have a ton of best friends...I'd have to say that I have five bestbestbestiestestier ( ) friends. Three are guys, if you can believe that, and one of the guys is my cousin. The other two guys, I don't usually tell everything, but we hang out a lot, and aren't afraid to call each other (most guys at my school don't call girls, if you can believe that). The other two are girls, and they are the neato-est burrito-est people ever. I don't really tell any of them everything...I'm my own person, I need thoughts that I can keep to myself.

Welllll, it's sort of hard to define what a 'true friend' is. Of course, this is probably going to be different for everyone, but overall, it all basically comes down to the same thing. A true friend should always be honest, trustworthy, and supportive. With these things, nothing else seems to really matter for me. Of course, my friends come in all flavors. Sarcastic, funny, smart, hyper... but the bottom line is, I know that they're all there for me. They'll also accept you for who you are. I do consider myself a true friend, and I have a few friends who are my true friends.

I've only come across one bestest bestest genuine best friend. We were great friends, and although we've drifted apart, she's still dear to me. She always had my back, and she was probably the only person who wouldn't be afraid to tell me the truth. If I was acting mean or snobby, she would tell me and keep me down to Earth. She was also one of the most trustworthy, forgiving people I've ever met. I never felt the need to be something I'm not with her. Ok, now I'm making her sound like my girlfriend [ I don't roll that way], but what I mean is, she was an amazing person and friend. You truly only come across a few people like her in your lives, if you're lucky.

It's not that I'm unsocial or hard to get along with, and I have many best friends. But only one so far in my life has been a true, genuine bestest friend. And I'm perfectly content with that. In my opinion, it's more important to have a few, even one, good quality friend than to have tons of friends who aren't even that good of friends to you.

Well... I have two best friends... One best he-friend and one best she-friend. I don't tell them exactly everything I think, because that is almost impossible, but they know a great deal of info about me.
It's very nice to have them, don't know what would I be if I didn't.

I'd define best friend not as the one "I can tell everything" but as the one who "understands without being told". True friends show when you're far from home, I realized. The others just drop out of your life when you're not around

I guess my best friend would be Gaelin... We've known each other since we were four years old, but since after elememtry school, we went to different middle schools, and next year, differnt high schools, we really aren't very close anymore, but she is so great. One of the nicest things she ever did for me was the day that my cat died she came over and just sat with me. She always there for a shoulder to cry in, and knows me really well... I remeber once in third grade or something and the teacher was being really mean to me, and I was crying, and a bunch of people came over and were crowding me and asking what was wrong, and she just hurried everyone away and let me be alone. All those memories are about crying, but have countless happy memories too.

I made some really great friends in elementry school, but when we went off to middle school, our friendships just fell apart, we would invite each other to birthdays and stuff, but it's really hard to stay friends when you only see each other once a year. It makes me sad how people drift apart like that.

I guess another best friend would be Clara. I've only known her for about an year and a half, but she is awesome! I really think that I would die if I had no friends, friends make everything 100 times more fun!

I think that I am a, if not a true friend, at least a good one. I am really good at keeping secrets, and I think that i put their happiness before mine, which is not a always a good thing, seeing as i have had a few friends that really took advantage of that. But we aren't friends anymore, they were jerks.

I don't have a best friend who I tell everything. I have a couple of very good friends, but I don't tell them everything. Like my feelings towards a certain person at the moment, no way that I'm telling them. But it is really confusing me, so I just talk about it with people on forums and chatboxes. I'm also becoming very good friends with a guy I met on a forum. Even more confusing

hmm, i don't know about my true friends much anymore. i don't tell them everything, but i do tell them most things. i mean they are great people, but we seem so far off, you know what i mean? it's like one moment they say that i'm their best friend, and the next moment, everything changes...we start to stop talking for a while for no reason and hang out with other people. it's like that with one of my friends who's a guy...one moment he tells me he loves me and i'm a great friend and he tells me things he doesn't tell other friends...and the next moment we don't talk, but for some reason, he stops talking to me longer than he hangs out with me. he's confusing me so much, it's like we're different people when the next year comes. i really thought he was gonna be the friend i could tell a lot of things to, but now it's exactly the opposite. the only friends i'm sure i have is a girl named Andrea. she's one of my best friends ever, and i can tell her a lot of things i would not tell to a lot of people. she understands me and never hurts me inside. and i have another friend, she's really cool and makes me smile even when i'm sad but the biggest problem is that we're going to different schools and everythings changing and i just don't know what to do. if anyone has any advice for me, please tell me.

I have a soul sister not a best friend. We have been friends since we were 4. I go on vacation with her. Her mother says that I am their adopted daughter. I know almost their whole family. They have big family, I mean they are Greek and Italian. I love her so much and I can't believe that next year we will both be going to different schools. I will keep in touch always.

I have 2 friends I can tell everything too! My friend Becka and Kayla (any1 reading my fic might find the names fimilar) I have known Becka since I was 5 in Kindergraten and we are still friends! I have known Kayla since weell somewhere between 2 -4 grade. She loves the HP movies so yeah! I trust them with everything, I could tell them my life story and trust them.

well their is sort of a group of us girl friends. there's 5 of us including me. we can trut each other with absolutely EVERYTHING. they're like my best friends, but i do have a bestbestb estbtsbest friend and she's olivia. i've only known her for a year-and-a-half. but at my old school, i was just this kid that was really smart and a suck-up and a goody two shoes. and like my friends now don't care. they love me for me. i've known all of them for the same amount of time, and i know it seems weird that i tell them everything after not knowing them for long, but i swear, we can write biographies of each of us. we spend countless of times just talking and hanging out, we get to know eachother more. i love them so very much.

Personaly my best friend is my mother.
only because i know she is the only one who truly cares for me and has known me since i was born. she's the one that knows everything about me. i just reliezed she was my bestfriend recently though because of an incident that occured. and i am so glad to know that she's the one i can spill everthing to, and shes changed her perspective towards things and helps me out most. for other friends its hard, i can rarly trust anyone. and some girls are just back stabbers anyways. so i like friends jsut at a distance, maybe a best friend would be nice but i think i won't know who that truly is til later in life, years from now.

well...I have many friends...but their not all neccessarily my 'true' friends that I completely trust...more like normal day to day aquaintances & people that I hang around with that make me laugh....I have never reeally been much of person who trusts opens up & spills...so naturally my friends only get to see one side of me...but only 2 of my friends have ever seen the full me...when I am angry or depressed me...not the happy dappy me...

well i open up to one friend, but she lives in france. she's actually my best mate's aunt ( but she's my age ). i can open up to that best friend and the girl in france. becaszue they're easy to talk to.
but my mates at school don't know much about me. some know more than others, and i trust a few enough to tell them a few of my secrets. but recently i found out some dreadful things, and i couldn't open up to any of them.
recently i trusted one of my friends and told her what i found out, and she told me something terrible about her family. ( we both found out stuff on the same day ) and we were really good mates for like week. and then suddenly she went off with her other friend again. ( our group kinda seperates off into pairs...) and i know she wont tell...but it just made me think if she really was that good a freind...

Jay i know how you feel, sometimes you just don't trust them enough to let them in, and for me that pushes them away more...

I also agree with Tori, i swear some of my friends online know more about me than the ones i see evryday...

i have two people that i can really open up to and tell everything. i have known one of them since pre-school and the other since kindergarten. the first one though seems to be kinda slipping away becasue she wont admit to me or anyone else the person that she truly likes lol (shes been kinda ditching us too). but the second friend is always there no matter what and i think she knows almost every single thing that has ever gone through my mind (almost lol)
