WickedRomance
Well, as you all know, we've met a bunch of interesting new characters in HBP, and I was curious to see who you all have as a new favorite.

Doesn't have to be your fave EVER, but it must be your favorite from HBP, and HBP only. I have two NEW characters:

Rufus Scrimgeour wub.gif *huggles*
Horace Slughorn happy.gif

Did you know that Scrimgeour was actually mentioned in OOTP?? I just caught it a few weeks ago:

American Edition, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, page 122.
QUOTE
Lupin glanced at Harry, then said to Tonks, "What were you saying about Scrimgeour?"
"Oh...yeah...well, we need to be a bit more careful, he's been asking Kingsley and me funny questions..."

Interesting, no?? Anyhoo, back on topic. Favorite characters??

Horax
Horace Slughorn is like a fine wine. He not only consumes a lot but he does grow on you. He shows this old bumbling, social climber person. But I get the feeling there is a lot more to him than meets the eye. Horace is just a good guy.
Padfoot313
Definitely Slughorn, he is so full of himself and his arrogance amde me laugh. Every time Hermione had to go to the Slug Clug, her dreading it made me smile. Slughorn's maanerisms remind me of Harry. My favorite thing about Sluggy is how he took in Ginny just because of her Batey Hex and her popularity with the men. I love Ginny and to see her as part of the Slug Clug makes me love her more and hate Cho more. ANyway, Go SLuggy.
slightlymad05
Snape. I now love Snape and hate Harry. I think Ive hated Harry sdince the third book.

However snape Ive adored him since the 5th book. He didnt wanty to kill Dumbledore, by the way--and oh hes on our side!

Ahhh... you're signature's breaking parchment, WickedRomance! This is the reason why we don't allow signature images to exceed 400 horizontally by 150 vertically -- you can probably see how the page has gone all funky with that black line down the right side of the screen... wink.gif I'd appreciate it if you could modify your graphic to meet the appropriate dimensions and upload it onto your image host again. If you need help learning how to do so, see the support forum (link in my signature). Thanks! smile.gif

As for my fave new character in HBP... well, it seems like the only options are Slughorn and Scrimgeour, so I'll go with Slughorn I think. wink.gif
mjane95
It's mjane95 here and I personally like Professor Horace Slughorn laugh.gif biggrin.gif
Do any of you guys really like him? smile.gif
felix_felicis_444
ooooooohhh!!!...

HORACE SLUGHORN!!! tongue.gif

I think its soooo funny how he cares so much about a select few students with famous relatives, and couldnt care any less about the rest of the students...
I know that its HORRIBLE for a teacher to choose faorites like that, but he reminds me of some of my teachers...they are really nice and very cool, but choose a few favorite students from each class and spend most of their time on them.....

purebloodprincess3339
Oh Prof. Slughorn has got to be my pick. I love the Slug Club. *lol* It's so funny how he chooses certain people and if you don't meet his requirements, he'll just kind of ignore you. I also love reading about all of Harry's desperate attempts to escape the Slug Club parties. Can't wait to see him in OOTP!
Hermione_Resilda
Well...I'll probably be hated for this, but I would have to say Romilda Vane. Every time I read a book, I try to find a character I can relate to. With discription, personality, name. Hermione had the pleasure of being that character for me, and she still is. But, since this is a new character...

First, Romila~Resilda, sound alike? (well, if you can pronounce Resilda right happy.gif) Her last name, has the same number of letters that my last name has and the 'a' is the second letter in my last name as well. She also fits my physical discription. Hehe, yeah, I'm weird. rolleyes.gif Anyways..I don't know about her personality, she seems too ruthless for some reason.

Okay, to be normal again! Horace Slughorn would be my favorite if Romilda wasn't mentioned.. Would Narcissa Malfoy be considered a new character? She was mentioned in GoF, but we didn't know anything about how she was like. If so, then she would have to be my all time favorite HBP character (lol, seems as though I can't pick just one, eh?).
sandersonsister09
i love slughorn cool.gif
Darth_Oz
Don't get me wrong, I think Scrimegour and Slughorn are both great new characters but my favourite has to be Greyback!

Lupin was the "good man afflicted by a terrible condition" whereas Greyback is a terrible man enhanced by it. He potentially has a very interesting past which I'd like to see elaborated.

HOOOOWWWWWLLLLLLLL!!!

Well the best new person in the book is,, well I will hold that for a bit.
I must say that this person is new in a very deferent way. We have been lead to believe this person is selfcenterd stuckup and cares only for them self.
Now to the part that change my mind about this person. The hospital after Dd dead and Bill is a total mess; in walks Mr.& Mrs. Weasly and that pile of crap Fleur. After a few minutes she blows everyone away, with Love.
Fleur is the winner by a mile.
Bouncing soul
One character i particularly like is Blaise Zabini. I don't know why but I just think he is a good guy caught up with a bad group.

I also I like the sound of the name
Feeder
I think I'm going to have to agree with Darth_Oz here that Mr. Fenrir Greyback is the most interesting new character. He holds a lot of the weight in the war controlling all the werewolves, and if Lupin can sway him or the group to join the order, it would be a monumental blow to Voldy. Because right now, it's just a giant chess match going on and Greyback is definitely no pawn.

I am also a bit interested in his backround, I want to know how he became what he is personality speaking.
Krieltje
I guess I'm one of the few that wasn't charmed by Horace Slughorn, I didn't like his behaviour or his slugclub rolleyes.gif
I'm also not to fond about Scrimgeour (btw. I didn't knew he was mentioned in OotP, interesting) so that leaves Greyback. Greyback is an interesting character and is going to be important in the next book. I would love to know how he became the murderer wolf who he is now, maybe he had an even sadder childhood than Remus.

Horace Slughorn is Brilliant hes not only a fabulous character but he adds so much to the story line with the horcruxs and everthing.

i have to also say he had one of the best entrances into the book ive seen come on what did you think of him when he tried to fake his own death and then got all chummy with DD i thought it was great!!!
gryffin_hauz_88
You're not alone, Krieltje. I'm not also fond of Slughorn. I don't like his favoritism thing. He's so unfair. I'm not also fond of Scrimgeour. Though he's more like a Minister than Fudge but he makes me annoyed. I find Blaine Zabini interesting. He has this something... something because he is a Slytherin. He sounds so mysterious. I like that... rolleyes.gif wink.gif
0maga
You may Disaprove of his favoritism thing gryffin_hauz_88 but you have to admit the way JK wrote the character was brilliant. but i do have to agree with you on Scrimgeour i dont like him eaither.
El cheeser puff
I like almost all of the new charecters. Slughorn is sooo cool the way he is written. I had a driving instructer like him over the summer. It was really funny, I kept on thinking how much him and Slughorn were alike.

I also like Fenrir. Well.... I dont like him, at all. But I like his charecter as a whole. Or his past at least..... you know... I dont know what I like about him, I just wanna figure out more! haha

And as for Rufus. He seems kind of rude. Especially when he is talking to the prime minister. But I just get the impression that he is a total badass in person, and I really hope that someone 'cool' will play him in the movies. biggrin.gif

But I have to say, Blaise is one of my favorites. Even though I dont like him as a person at all, he just seems like somebody that could 'reform' and help Harry. Or do the complete oppisite and battle Harry. Either way, it would work out for great writing!

Also, he has an awesome name. tongue.gif

cheese puff?
Westerly
I was indifferent to Scrimgeour (sp.) while Slughorn was a weak character to me. Unlike cowardly, devious Quirrel, hilariously vain Lockheart, warm-hearted Lupin, or the awful, prejudiced Umbridge, I had no strong feelings towards Slughorn - not even the side-story of his favouritism succeeded in bringing him to life or making him memorable. There was no real edge to his favouritism so...meh. I couldn't even work up enough antipathy to disapprove of him.

He was filler to me - the new teacher who was 'there' simply because they had to have a new teacher like they do every year. Fenrir Greyback wasn't in the novel enough to give me any idea what he's like as a character (which, is seperate from his function.) He might be interesting in the future, but for now...we'll see.

So I don't know... I guess I might have to tip my vote in favour of Romilda Vane who was amusing and potentially interesting - though unfortunately she wasn't properly fleshed out either.

I also find Theodore Nott, and particularly Blaise Zabini intriguing, but they're not new characters, and *sighs* they're always thrust into the background. Too bad.
RabsAccomplice
I'd have to say, the character that interested me the most in the new book was Morfin. I'd like to know more about what he did before he was murdered.

Outside of that, my Favorite for the book was Ginni. She had a larger role and really showed some character in this book, rather than just being a weasley.
parker
umm...hmm...a new character?? ok then, my fave new character is the 'big blond' death eater tongue.gif
james pickles
well does luna count as new because i really like her. um if shes not counting i guess slughorn because he is such a pompous idiot and makes me laugh.
Diggory_05
My favorite character that made their debut in HBP is not a solo character, it is the inferi. I just wish they would have been in the book more. The talk up to them was great. And then their performance stunk, I hope they have a major role in the 7th book.
phoenix1708
For the sixth book my favorite new character would be Slughorn like many others, although I am intrigued by Scrimgeour.

Counting the fifth book, my favorite new characters were definately Tonks, Kingsley and Luna....hey they were all cool in their own way.

Fenrir I think is an interesting character, as well as some of the other death-eaters (Dolohov, Amycus & Alecto, etc.) But I wouldn't count them as favorites on any list.
Witherwings71
Well not Scrimgeur, duh. What was the point in him?

Slughorn was quite cool, although I hated the way he didnt pay attention to Won-Won.

Greyback must've seemed totally monstrous, right?

Romilda Vane [name says all] reminds me of the girls that are found in every school thriving with teenagers.

But my fave new character is the Half Blood Prince. And actually yes he does count, because he wasnt introduced before, and the mystery surrounding his identity before, throughout, and indeed after the book is great.

Rufus Scrimgeour wub.gif *huggles*

I don't get all the love for this guy. He's... useless.

My favorite has to be...

(drum rolls)

...the tall blonde wizard at the end! He's so... dashing.
luckyfish
I must say that I find slughorn an unusual yet funny character cos he makes me laugh, the way he acts towards harry and how harry tries his utmost best to stay out of old sluggys way! laugh.gif

I don't warm up that well to scrimgeor cos he is a control freak and a liar cos he tries to make the wizarding world think he is a great minister and that the ministry is doing something.I think he is an obnocious person who wants his way no matter how many people get hurt.I think he walks over people and creates a sense of tension between the ministry and dd.

I also like greybacks mysterious character cos I think he will play a majorn role in the final book and all will be revealed! ph34r.gif

I think Luna is pretty cool even though she isn't a new character and you gonna think I am crazy, but I think pansy parkinson is cool too. dry.gif There is something about her and it makes the story 'sly' in a way like draco and snape! ohmy.gif

Merry Christmas!
BlaireBear
Hi...

Do creatures count? Then it would have to be pygmy puffs! tongue.gif I think they're absolutely adorable! and cuddly too...

Anyway, favourite character in HBP would be....... hmmm not really favourite but most interesting would have to be Fenrir Greyback. He must have something to do in the 7th book...

And i don't really like rufus scrimgeour... slughorn is okay though... he's nice in a way...
TheOneWhoHatesSnape
Well, I think that Horace Slughorn is a little bit crazy, don't you thik?

I really like the Half Blood Prince in the begining, because was a unknow character I though he will be Voldemort, but, as you know, was Snape but that isn't a excuse for telling that the Half Blood Prince isn't amazing!!

Romilda Vane is a little anoing, don't you think?

I hate the new Ginny! jajaja I don't know why...

Rufus Scrimgeur is so stupid!! jajajajajaja He's like Fudge!

Greyback is indiference.

mmmm....

Just that, I think
Remus_Lupin
Hi
I didnt particullaly like any of the new charecters in HBP that have allready been said.
Slughorn- I didnt particullarly like the way JK wrote Slughorn. He could have proved to be a very interesting charecter but he wasnt.
Scrimgeor-DO NOT GET ME STARTED ON RUFUS "IM BLATENTLY VOLDEMORT USING POLYJUICE POTION" SCRIMGEOR!
Romilda Vane- She is vane, irritating, self centered, only wants harry because hes famous.
Greyback- He seemed vile and evil. He is cruel twisted and he ruined old Remus' life.
Morfin- No real significance.
Merope- I felt Merope Gaunt deserved everything she got. A little thing called karma was her fate. She loved Tom Riddle Snr for his looks. Not for love. Voldemort was a bad seed from both sides. Merope, Morfin, Marvolo, Tom. All were evil and he got all their evilness combined. Morfin and Marvolo's cruelness, Tom's unwillingness for love and Meropes vainess.
Cormac McLaggen- I hate him he is so full of himself why did JK include him

My favourite charecter from HPATHBP that wasnt a major charecter before was probrably Narcissa Malfoy. Many people will disagree but she has a scrap of soul left and was lumbered with a bad sister, husband and family.
Moaning Myrtle was hilarious as ever. I wish I could meet her she is hilariously funny. Plus she described me perfectly. Bullied, afraid etc. She makes my heart warm just by reading her she is funny.
Did Demelza Robins ever get a line? she was a new charecter without lines
TheManekin
if you gotta love a charcter in HBP you gotta love Draco. what a fine piece of work he is. wub.gif

PurpleForge
My favorite new character is definitely Luna Lovegood. She is so amusing and entertaining. In the 6th book, my favorite character is Demelza Robins because she seems really cool Slughorn is a likable guy if you're well connected. However, he is quite indifferent to Ron. He is an interesting character. He isn't particularly my favorite but I don't dislike him.
I don't particularly like Bob Ogden, Hokey, or any of the characters we meet briefly.
My absolute favorite, however, is ARNOLD, the pygmy puff. He is so likable. I mean really, he is always riding on Ginny's shoulders and dodging Crookshanks. I mean who wouldn't like such a pygmy puff with such a colorful personality?
I know I do.
pottergirl
ok, i know this is gonna sound stupid, but i have 3 fav. new people in HBP...ok first, Romilda Vane, because she's so bold and cunning, i mean, mayn she really wanted harry bad...haha and second, Cormac Mclaggen because he's so annoying, and i don't know he sounds like some really bossy kid who everyone hates...lol, and last but not least, i like Felix Felicis...ok i know this isnt a real person, but its so funny how harry says "I know what i'm doing...or at least--felix does..." HBP pg. 478, he personifies it...

Ron/Hermione~ Harry/Ginny~ Tonks/Lupin~ Neville/Luna...
Moon(I luv you Luna)
I found Cormac really funny how he annyed pratically everyone, and well, knocked Harry out.

"I want to find MacLaggan and kill him!"

Haha, that was just super funny. Plus Romilda is funny, causing Ron to fall in love with her (Even if it was accidental) so those two are probably my favourites from HBP. happy.gif

P.S. Out of the creatures we meet, i'd say Arnold. I mean, i even dreamt about him the other night!

P.P.S. This is just out of HBP. My favourite new character of all time is Luna from OotP. Well, she's my favourite character overall, but yeah, this is just from HBP.
Na1993
sleep.gif mine has got to be hermione. all my freind say we are just alike. my hair is brown and wavy, im smart and have strait a's lllllllllllllllllllllooooooooooooooooooooooooovvvvvvvvvvvvvv
eeeeeeeeeeeeee books
at plus she is soo loyal to ron and harry wub.gif happy.gif
Merope Gaunt
Coolest new character by far is the Gaunt family. Can you imagine how terrible and nasty they are. They are probably the most notorious wizarding family around.. AND Merope gave birth to Lord Voldy!

Well, as you all know, we've met a bunch of interesting new characters in HBP, and I was curious to see who you all have as a new favorite.

Doesn't have to be your fave EVER, but it must be your favorite from HBP, and HBP only.
back on topic. Favorite characters??

I'm afraid I'll have to side with the Slughorn crowd. There are hints throughout that Slughorn may be a very powerful ally to whichever side he is on. I feel like, since DDs death, he has "declared" for the OOTP. I think Harry will convince him to hear the calling of his true "good soul." I think he will play a role in helping Harry ferret out the Horcruxes. Perhaps even revealing to Harry how a hidden horcrux can be detected.

Being a little overweight and indulgent myself, I thouroughly identified with Slughorn on the physical basis too.
HPfan#1
I actually don'y have a particular favourite new peron in HBP because well they are all sort of horrible!! I don't like Horace Slughorn!! I don't like Romilda Vane!!! And I don't remember anyone else!!
