Last week when JK did an interview with Jonathon Ross, he also talked to Bob Hoskins. Bob mentioned that he would like a part in the next movie and so JR asked JK if there was a role for him. She laughed but then said, she knew who he could playor words to that effect. I think he'd make a terrific Slughorn!

Jul 15 2007, 07:08 PM
Bob Hoskins does look the part. Doesn't he? Juts imagine that walrus mustache on him and he'd be all set.
There are a few others though that come to mind when Slughorn pops into a discussion. Gregor Fisher has the kind of built you would imagine Slughorn to have and he might be a decent fit, though Bob Hoskins would be better. Too bad Richard Griffiths is already playing Vernon, else he would have made terrific Slughorn. You need someone who can really bring out that look of avarice when Slughorn spots Harry, thinking about all the possibilities and benefits that would accrue to him. An important character that one.
On a side note, I saw an interview with Bill Nighy where he joked that he would like to be in the next Harry Potter movie considering him and Yates are good friends. What role would he best fit in? Scrimgeour, Slughorn, One of the Gaunts, Bob Ogden, Twycross? Borgin? or even Greyback

I disagree.i think Yates will find a realy "aged" well known english actor for the role.
Im not to sure who as i dont have a HUGE knowledge of male english actors.
I cant wait to see how they dress him up..with the looks of a lion...?

samanthapatil, I know what you mean. I could've auditioned, which makes it worse, I'm 16, British but I was in LA when the auditions were held. I begged my parents so much but I still couldn't go.
Has anyone who auditioned heard anything back yet?? I hope someone from VTM ends up getting the part anyway

OMG a girl on bebo has said she got a callback the day after the auditions! To do a screentest on the 30th of this month. She thought she hadn't gotten in at first then she got a call. 4 other girls were called to she said, two had sent in pictures or a video of themselves.

I'm soooooo sad now as it means i never got through. Sorry for the rest of you too.

I know he was in Lord of the Rings and all that but whenever I read scenes with Scrimgeour, I've always pictured Christopher Lee. He's intimidating and good at playing the not so good guy so I'd love to see him in that role.

Hi
I'm really sad now that I know there is no chance for me to audition anymore...I was too scared to ask my parents to take me to the Lavender auditions so I kept quiet about it praying there would be Romilda auditions...but I guess that there isn't anymore...
I've been crying all morning and now I think that I might again...I just wish that I could turn back the clocks and ask my mum and dad to take me because they may have said yes...I guess now I'll never have the chance x

So Stuart Townsend, Naomi Watts and Joseph Fiennes have been confirmed for Half-Blood Prince.
NAomi Watts I would imagine will be playing Narcissa Malfoy, but then again a bit of make-up and she could be Merope.
I have never heard of Stuart Townsend so I had to look him up, but now I have seen images, I had a 'Oh that's who it is' moment. Looking at his picture I think he could be a candidate for Voldemorts father.
Although it's fair to say that since Ralph Fiennes play Voldemort, then it would stand to reason that Joseph Fiennes being his brother, and therefore having the family resemblance would play his father??
So that takes me back to Stuart Townsend...Greyback? Not big enough in my book. What do you think??

That's kind of a stupid thing to lie about. But I hope that people who sent in letters and stuff are being contacted because that still really does give me a tiny piece of hope! I wonder when people will know though because it's been a few weeks now since the auditions.

Naomi watts is Narcissa isn't she. Well it said that on the VTM homepage. Well i'm just glad they finally decided to put Narcissa in it. I was hopeing to see a glimpse of her in the GOF film. The Quidditch World Cup scene.
I don't really know how god Naomi watts is so it will be a suprise for me to see how good she can take this paticuarlly dark yet motherly role.

You are quite correct, oops my bad lol!! Naomi will play Narcissa.
I looked at some pics of her a while ago and I can see it now, she's got a Narcissa-ish sort of look about her...slim featured face, blonde hair.

Girls started getting call backs last week. And i think it might've just been those girls who got through to the script reading part. Don't know of any girl who sent stuff to them getiing a call back yet.
Then some girls on Leaky Lounge called up Twickenham studios. Heres what she said :
Ok, I couldn't help myself. I had to phone Twickenham studios! I spoke to Alice Searby just now and asked her about the Lavender auditions... as you do... And she said that anyone who has sent in letters or who has been to the auditions just has to sit tight until October! She said they are not going to know anymore until then. They have not cast her yet. I know this is what we have all be hearing, but I just thought I'd let you know that everyone who has sent in a letter is included in this, as she said they will look through everyones photos etc. I didn't dare ask about what may be going on on the 30th as, although she seemed very nice, she kept speaking over me and it seemed as if she had been pestered about this a lot (which I tried to take into consideration) and so I didn't want to keep on about it. So as far as I know, everyone hold on until October
So i really don't know whats going on anymore

I agree with the casting except Stuart T. He is horrible. Have any of you seen him in the Queen of the Damned? Horrible, horrible actor. Melodramatic and tries to hard tobe bad. I hope the others give him some acting tricks right away....he could ruin any role he plays.

Wow!!! It's been confirmed that Naomi Watts will play Narcissa. I'll be very interested to see how that pans out. I really didn't think they would use her as I thought she is officially Australian? However, she can do a good English accent (as seen in King Kong), so I daresay the casting directors have seen something in her that we hadn't at first necessarily recognised.
Kudos to those of you who suggested her in the first place!

Naomi Watts is british technically. Moved to Australia when she was 14 so presumably still retained citizenship.
If scrimgeour is confirmed, what about Stuart T for the male Carrow whos the death eater on the top of the tower when Draco and snape face off against Dumbledore.

It has been reported on the Home page here SlytherinHeadGirl05:
Watts, Fiennes, and Townsend confirmed for HBP
Posted By Ana on 07-23-07 @ 8:04 PM - Link
The Courier Mail has reported that actors Naomi Watts, Joseph Fiennes, and Stuart Townsend have been confirmed to play roles in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. The article states that Naomi will play Narcissa Malfoy, while the roles for Joseph and Stuart have not been announced at the moment.
Production for Half-Blood Prince begins in September.
I hope that helps.

what is there to ruin? The HP films are pathetic. In Ootp, i literally fell asleep after watching this terrible excuse as a movie for 7 minutes. I doubt that the next movie will show any notable improvement.
but yeah your right, if they put Orlando Bloom in as Bill, i'd probably only just go so i can see him in character.

I agree with some of you, Bill DOES play a part in the last two books. He's part of the order and such. Dan and the others were actually expecting to "introduce" the Weasley brothers in OotP but it never happened (he said something about it an early interview after GoF was filmed). Charlie i can understand being cut....he's barely even in the books
but yeah...bill and fleur should be in the movies. It wouldn't really make any sense would it? Well..maybe...hmmm....trying to think if they them out....they have to?! Where else would they go except for Shell Cottage?!?!??!? that's bill and fleur's place they have to be in the movies arrrr stupid hollywood

Oh, ok, I see. Kind of like how Zoe Wannamker (Madam Hooch) is technically a US citizen, though she's lived in the UK for most of her life and Nicole Kidman is also a US citizen since she was born in Hawaii, though everyone associates her with being an Australian.

She's pregnant though. She's due in October...
...will they still have her? Just cos they replaced Helen McCroy, when she became pregnant, for Helena Bonham Carter as Bella Lestrange (and thank god they did!

But I guess it's also the decision of the actress.

Yes, she is pregnant, but due to give birth in a matter of weeks, so that should have happened by early August at the latest. I've just read that she was in fact born in Kent, and moved to Australia when she was fourteen. That would explain the English accent then!

October! *sobs* I don't want to wait that long to find out anything.
Though that is annoying because when my dad rang after I found out I couldn't go to auditions he spoke to Alice Searby who said that people would find out late July early August.

Lauren0891
Jul 26 2007, 05:18 PM
Yeah I don't think that her being pregnant will be too much of a problem. The baby will be born in a few weeks time and even so they could just delay the filming of the Narcissa Malfoy scenes until the baby is born. But won't she want to spend some time with her newborn baby? If they start shooting in September and the baby is born in late August, then she'll have to leave her baby straight away to go film.
I personally think that she will make a good Narcissa Malfoy. She has the hair and the pale skin to suit the part. When I heard that she may be considered for a role in HBP but it wasn't said what role, I immediatley thought Narcissa.
And she lived in England until she was 14 and then moved to Australia but returns here often, so she is definately 'English enough' for the part.

Naomi Watts is the worst person they could pick. A monkey could play Narcissa better then she could. Fingers crossed she won't have a big part. No speaking, no moving, just sitting there looking boring. I don't see why they can't get unknowns. Do they think the HP movies need more 'big names' in them? Why do all the younger characters need ot be unknowns? Why not have an adult be an unknown for once? Is it that hard to do? I don't think I'll be watching the movie if she's in it. If they pick someone else for the movie, for me, will be saved, if not.....what a waste.

I read somewhere that Jim Broadbent is in official talks to play Slughorn. I personally like the idea of Geoffrey Rush, I think he'd be great. As far as Bob Hoskins is concerned, I like him, but I definitely don't like him for Slughorn. He's not sycophantic enough. And, incidentally, I've heard Bob Hoskins' British accent...and it's not good.

I actually read on this very site that Jim Broadbent is in official talks to play Slughorn, Naomi Watts is in talks to play Narcissa Malfoy, and Joseph Fiennes is in talks to play somebody. The Naomi Watts thing sounded kind of odd to me, but whatever. I wouldn't be surprised if Fiennes played Tom Riddle senior, that'd be really interesting, since he's Ralph Fienne's brother. Keep it in the family.

I always envisioned Jeremy Irons in the role of Scrimgeour, but some of the other suggestions such as Liam Neeson and Bill Nighy have been wonderful...could we push to have the actual PM of Britain show up in the movie to tie the "real "world with the wizarding community? Given, the PM would have to be from the year 1997, but that could work.....

I think that Joseph Fiennes would be the perfect choice for Tom Riddle Sr., because he is Ralph Fiennes brother and therefore looks a lot like him, but not exactly like him. What do you think about this choice?
Anduril
Jul 27 2007, 08:23 PM
I think thet they should definitely use that Christian guy for Riddle, I mean they already cast him so why you they change him? I t seems like the smartest thing to do. Also I like the idea of the older, eviler, Riddle that comes to DD to apply for a job should be played by Ralph Fiennes.
But from some things I heard the other possiblity is that they will use the younger Joseph Fiennes for riddle.

After reading thru these 8 pages I would have to say that the guys that look the best as a lion type character would have to be these trhee:
Ian McKellen
Jeremy Irons
Jonathan Pryce
These men just give out an air of power and they look very much how I had pictured Rufus Scrimgeor
I also think any of the old people from Lord of the Rings would be very good because they all have already pulled of that 'long hair, stern face' look.
(Christopher Lee, Ian McKellen, John Noble, and defintately Ian Holm, Bernard Hill) look them up on google and you will see what I mean.
I really think Bernard Hill could pull it off because he has such a good vouice for it
I would also just like to point out that Cornelius Fudge is the same guy in every movie - Robert Hardy.
