Hey everyone!!

I was just wondering if there were any of you who actually liked this kind of games. I've played mostly 'Elric' and 'The legend of the five rings'(or whatever it is called in English laugh.gif about samurais) and I just love this kind of games. I've also played Vampires a couple of times(I've got the computer games too, and Neverwinter Nights too).

Right now I'm getting a new adventure ready for my friends to play and even though it is taking up loads of time I'm having so much fun. I hope my friends have fun playing it, because it is also being kind of tricky.

So, anyone of you like this games too?

I consider myself a huge RPG fan, but I have not heard of any of the games that you talked about. What platform are they for?

As for RPGs, they are so addicting to me. I love that you have to think in order to beat them, and that they involve strategy. A few good ones I have played are The Knights of the Old Republic series, Fable, and The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.

All of these games are very good, so if you haven't played them I highly recommend them. They are all for the xbox and I think Morrowind and Fable are for PC (not sure about KOTOR).

I'm not a big gamer but when I play one it's most of the time a RPG.
One of my favourites is definitely Fable, played that one on my boyfriends X-box. I've heard about The Elder Scrolls but never played that one, most of the time I only play pc games (don't have any other platforms at home) I did play Neverwinternights on my PC, also liked that one smile.gif
Too bad I'm too busy with school and work so I don't have much time for gaming, because I would love to game more.

The games I talked about aren't video games, they're RPG games played with a manual and dice. Those are the ones I like best, they really make you play a part. It's awesome.

I did like Neverwinter Nights, but it is actually a bit slow for me, at least the first two chapters, specially the first one, having to see the whole city and everything.

Oh yes! PnP RPGs! I've played loads!

AD&D, Torg, Star Wars, and of course GURPS!

If you haven't heard of GURPS, try a google of it. It's a generic game system with loads of supplements to choose from. We adapted tons of universes to it and it was great fun! I'd even try and adapt the Potterverse to it if I could find some players locally...

But I fear most are now playing computer or console based RPGs, sadly...

Haven't heard of the Five Rings (Other than Musashi's Book). As for Elric, the only one I know by that name is the "Eternal Champion" cycle, penned by none other than Michael Moorcock... Any relation?

Cheers!

My youth was spent playing games like this. I would be a different person( less geeky for sure! laugh.gif ) if i'd not done this sort of thing I've played dungeons and dragons in both the advanced and standard flavours. Star Wars, Alternity( a kind of future d20 based game) white wolf, what else. There was a wild west one i played once, i dont recall the name though. My fave was probably D&D though, we had one adventure going for about 2 years i think, needless to say we were pretty powerful by the end! I was never much of a DM but I loved just being the PC,

I know what you mean omerus, there are plenty of online adventures, which i keep meaning to check out, but all of the people i played with, went to uni never to return, so i'll have to satify my needs on my own! rolleyes.gif laugh.gif

I've never played 5 rings hallia, what rules does it follow? what sort of setting is it?

Elric is the new version of 'Stormbringer', and yeah, I think it's the same as 'Eternal champion' because it's Michael Morcock's. Actually it's the one I like best, though five rings is quite good too.

Big D, in 5 rings you're a samurai in something like the Middle Ages. It's played with d10, more or less the system is basically like vampires. You've got a number of dice you throw for each characteristic, then you keep the number of dice equal to the number you've got in each ring. For example, you've got the ring of fire, air, earth, water and hollow. Hollow is basically for doing magic and for adding dice to throw. Then air is a combination of the characteristics reflexes and inteligence(not sure about this, I think those don't go together, but you get the idea). That rings number is equal to the highest of it's two characteristics, and that's the number of dice you keep. I don't know if that was clear blink.gif Hope you got the idea laugh.gif

Actually, I really like 5 rings, it's great, because then you've got a clan(do you say it like this in English??) and depending on your clan you've got a school where you learn all you know and each school has different techniques.

Sadly, this is one of those standard geek staples that I somehow escaped, presumably due to my cool older brother. So I unfortunately know little about this sort of thing. Pretty much everything I do know comes from reading 8-bit theatre. Red Mage is awesome... Anywho... Recently, I had a friend that tried to get me going on the Star Wars RPG, but I guess there never was a time to work out doing that. I'm kind of on a different schedule than most the rest of the world around me. I am big on video game RPG's, but... that's a whole different topic...
Big D
yeah that sounds interesting, good explaination too! wink.gif laugh.gif I've never heard of it, its probably around in England, im just a bit behind the times on everything after everyone moved away.

I think Clan sounds right, so each clan gets specific bonuses and penalties depending on which clan. Kind of like the races and character classes in D&D. and you learn different attacks and defences, things like that?

sounds awesome!

I should really find an online D&D adventure to join, i really miss playing, it was such a huge part of my childhood.
Hallia
yeah, it is something more or less like that.

Actually, I live in Spain, and it was my best friend, who played this kind of games with his brother and his friends, who got me into all this. And I'm really glad he did. They bouht me the 'elric' manual fro my birthday biggrin.gif
Spider22
one of my favourite rpg's is dungeon siege, i do like fable but i think its overrated

My all time favourite was GURPs "Atomic Horror." Think of all those 50s and 60s B-movies and you're nearly there. It's camp, it's silly and it makes for some great role-playing! I'm quite partial to playing the somewhat mad scientist looking for his pet giant ants...

I wonder if there'd be interest in the HP community for a fan-made rules package based on the Potterverse for GURPs, or any other generic rules system? Could be fun to work on...
