Did anybody else notice that when Harry was in the hall watching Peter Pettigrew walk by, the "Room of Doom" appears just underneath him and off to the left a bit on the Marauders Map? Gotta say, seeing that has me curious!

Very interesting. The room actually has a label?
severely_severus
Yep, it says "Room of Doom" lol. Quite a cute name really, but yeah. Makes you wonder...

next time you watch the film look for it, I'll see if I can find a picture but I'm not sure if I'll be able to or not. will let you know!
severely_severus
Okay, three copies of the film later... I've gotten a pic that shows the Room of Doom (bottom left), I still have the video too if anyone doesn't believe its in the movie.

Do you think it's just a joke they put in? Or does it mean something? What exactly is a "Room of Doom" for anyway??
NastyShort
Since Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs made the map, it's probably the location of their least favorite class.

I'm assuming Potions.
severely_severus
Could be... but we really don't know that Potions was their least favorite class. I mean, they wouldn't have had Snape as their teacher back then. I'm also fairly certain that I saw potions elsewhere on the map, though I could be wrong. I'll watch for it next time I see the film.

Ahhhh, interesting, i never noticed that. I agree, i think it would be their least favourite class.
TheSpecialist
hmmmm (thinking like crazy) probably it was there least favorite class or it is a room of doom huh.gif !!(dun dun dun)lol

Shuntpike
Maybe it's the torture room Filch mentions, y'know the one, where they hung them from their thumbs. Oh it can't be, that was the dungeons, maybe it was just a detention room where they would get sent to do lines or something boring.

i was wondering the exact same thing, i noticed that when i was watching the movie,m it may or may not have any signifigance. but i dont know.

Well, if it isn't just some kind of joke, it could be Filch's office.... I'm guessing the mapmakers would have spent a fair amount of time there, too, while Filch wrote up his reports on them.

I have never noticed that before. When I watch it again, I will make a not to catch it. But, to follow up, we know now that Potions was taught by Slughorn, he is not a bad teacher. I think that 'the Room of Doom' was added in as a comical extra that nobody was really supposed to know. But it is kind of bizarre.

Hmmmm... Weird I've never noticed it before. Maybe it's where their least favorite class is or that detention room Filch mentoins. Or maybe even (this is a stupid idea) the Slytherin common room. unsure.gif

I think it was meant to add sespense to the moment, "scary Harry's near the room of doom!" That kind of thing. But no real fear. But it could be the potions classroom, or Flich's office.

wow i didnt notice that! i'll go and watch it now and get back to you! it could be anything really as we all know that hogwarts has many secret passageways it might not even be a room in use......

EDIT:: wow its really there! its a circular room and the only other room that is known to be circular is the gryffindor Common room so maybe its another common room? i also noticed a history of magic classroom and two others which i couldnt make out.
Spencer Potter
I would say the Room of Doom is probably Filchs office, because who says Prongs, Padfoot, Wormtail and Moony didnt like Potions, remember Snape was just a kid back then too ! tongue.gif
xXTonksXx
i dont know. i still think it could be their least favorite class although judging by what we've seen of the marauders in the pensieve, they probably dont like very many classes, apart from remus, who liked it so much that he went back as a teacher!
MIKOH
Don't you think it might have been the room of requierment? Just maybe the marauders didn't know the room's real name. maybe they tried it once, or for sure they tried it once but they wanted it as a place to torcher snape in, maybe they thought. "we want a place inwhich we can torture filthy snivellus". and so it was a horrible place, so they named it the room of doom because they probably returned later lots of time for the same purpose.

I don't know, but that was the first thing I though of when I heard that name, The room of requierment, although I didn't see it in the movie but I think it might have took a circular form then, so that's why it appeared circle shaped. However, there's a main problem I just found in all that, The room of requierment is on the seventh floor and harry was on the fourth I think, I don't know how the map works but I think it shows you only the floor you are on, but it might show all the floors though.
little_witch07
I think it is most likely an extra. They might not have had anymore names, so they put it there just for fun. Pretty cool though! rolleyes.gif

I'd say that "The Map Never Lies" on this one.
