o__o well, this question was bound to be asked anyway. are dan, rupurt, emma, tom, and others getting too old for their part?
my opinion, yes they are but you know how some mid 20 year old actors play teenager parts. **for example: the actress who played regina george in mean girls is actually 27 (around that age) years old. so even if they are several years older than the character they're playing, i don't think they'll be booted off from the cast. *knocks on wood*

I don't think they're getting too old for their parts (especially Emma because she's actually the same age as movie Hermione). I told my mom that it won't matter because... well, you've already pointed out that young parts are played by older actors.

I don't think they are. Even if they are pushing the age thing... everyone wants to see the same actors. Changing them, in my opinion, would make the movies a lot less enjoyable.

I don't think they are, either. If they were replaced by younger actors and actresses, I would throw a fit! They're too good to be replaced!

I don't think they are. I think even if they are a bit older than they're supposed to be, they still fit the part and it's not like their age takes away from the movie. When I watch it I don't think, 'oh man, Harry looks 14 instead of 13...i can't watch this anymore...' it's doesn't bother me. And I think we've all grown so attached to these actors that if they changed them there would be a negative response.
Plus, the actress who plays moaning myrtle was born in 1966...that's gotta say something...

Jul 18 2004, 06:58 PM
I think they mean, that Moaning Myrtle was born in 1966, not the actress.
I consider the books and the movies to be seperate things now. I hope they just adapt future movies to reflect the ages of the actors instead of trying to stay so true to the books. They already are quite different.

I don't think so. Emma Watson will never look that old, and her age will always be close to what they need. Rupert Grint is older, but in the books Ron is always taller than the others, so his age kinda keeps him in the look for his part. Daniel Radcliff is only 1 year older, so thats not enough to make any difference.

Noooo, xD I don't think so either!!!!! I want they will be in AAAALLLLLLL films!!! For example, Tom Welling is actually 26 or 27, and he plays a boy of 17. Nooo, they're perfects!!! xD!!!

In my opinion it's not a big deal if they are older. I think they've got to finish the movies, because if someone from the trio is played by another actor/actress the movies will look way too different.

They should stay. I've got used to the current actors/actresses. And, like everyone has already said, teenagers are normally player by older actors anyway.

In my opinion, i believe dat the actors are getting to old, but maturely when it comes to playing their parts in da screen dey are never to old to play dose parts.... If they were ever to change actors it just wouldn't be da same atmosphere of the movies as to apposed if they had the same actors.. we would all have imagined at some point dat when we saw da first movie dose actors would still be here playing dat same part in all the movie and never would have thought dat there would be a point when we would have to say good-bye !!!1

I'm sure with a bit of makeup or something, they would able to play the part! They are around the same age anyway. Like Zyra said, it's not uncommon for actors to play parts younger than their real age. On the WB, I've heard that Tom Welling in Smallville (the teenage Superman) has got married? And so is Chad Michael Murray (or was it engaged?) who also plays a teen on One Tree Hill.
zyra123
Sep 10 2004, 04:44 PM
Tom Welling is 27 years old and yes, he's married...while Chad is 23 years old (both source from imdb, just checked them)....and there's a lot more examples out there...

I, personally, could careless how old they are as long as they're still in the movies. They could be in their 20s playing a 16 year old (like that guy who played Tom Riddle) and I wouldn't care as long as it was them. Does it really matter how old they are? Come on, do any of us really care how old the actors are?

I don't think they're too old to play their characters. This is a big issue that a LOT of people talk about. Personally, I think that they should play their characters for all 7 movies. It would be weird if they weren't in the movies anymore. It's like when Richard Harris died. When Michael Gambon took over as Dumbledore, he did a good job but it wasn't the same. The magic that Richard brought to Dumbledore wasn't there anymore. If Dan, Rupert and Emma got replaced, then the magic that they brought to Harry, Ron, and Hermione wouldn't be there anymore. And Harry potter wouldn't be that famous anymore probably. But to me, I think that they should make their own decisions about their future, not the fans or the media. If they decided to be these characters, then they should decide if they wish to stop acting for a while to concentrate on school of something. Beig a huge Harry Potter fan myself, I'm just saying the truth when I say that no matter what decision they make, I'll support it. But Harry Potter will always be in my heart until the day I die. It has helped me get through my classic severe depression this far. And I won't ever forget that.

And think on this: Is Dan gonna get any taller? I doubt it and if he doesn't then there really isn't any problem with him playing Harry, cause he'll still look young. And Emma is about the right age now (she used to be younger than the part) And if Rupert ever leaves I swear I'll have a major fit. lol.

In OOTP, JKR mentions that Ron grows about a foot over the summer. However, it looked like in the movies he grew before POA (2 years early)
This is funnier than it is important. If they can make Robbie Coltrane look so tall, then a few years in age are not that important.
LuciusMalfoy
Sep 17 2004, 02:22 AM
Yeah, I mean I really see no problem with the ages at all. It'd be a stupid reason for them to replace an actor, cause none of us care how old they are as long as they all keep their parts. Even though I'm not a big fan of Emma I'd still want her to finish out the series.

I don't see any age problems either. As I've said elsewhere, the entire cast of Grease were way too old to be in High School, but the casting guys went ahead and hired them anyway. Not to mention, of course, that they were seriously considering Kate Winslet as Fleur at one point...I mean, come on, she's about my age, isn't she?! How can she play a 16/17 year old? I think the only real issue is whether or not Dan and co are going to get fed up and want to go on to do other things.....I think the only danger is them becoming a bit jaded with the whole thing......

As much as I want to deny that, I guess Dana is right afterall...although I heard somewhere that the trio are exhilarate with all the attention they get playing Harry Potter movie. But just think...take Dan for example, he started playing Harry Potter when he's 11 in 2000. Rumors had it that the 7th movie may come out in 2010. So, he'll be 21 by then!!
Looks like he just spend his whole teenage years as Harry Potter...so I guess it's not what we fans feels like...especially now when he got this obsession over guitar! Oh, I dunno...
But I totally totally agree that it'll be weird to see someone else play their part...so, c'mon Dan (and er...co..

)!! there's only three movies left!! (excluding GoF since he's filming it right now...)

Sorry, zyra, mate!! The 'and co' bit means 'and company'...as in 'everyone else'...Rupert, Emma, Tom etc....I kind of assume that people know what I'm on about when I use abbreviations....which I know I shouldn't do because there are loads of members here who don't use English as their first language.....sorry again....very presumptive of me!!!! >.<
You know, there really should be something in the rules about not using netspeak or abbreviations considering that this is a mulit-national (and multi-age) forum...it makes it very difficult for people to understand what others are on about sometimes....

LOL...I know what 'co' means!!

...it's just that I find it awkward since most of us would use 'the trio' to represent Dan, Rupert and Emma...
But I see that you use it to represent a larger group (including Tom and the others)...so, okay...you're quite forgiven for using 'co' instead of 'the trio' (no offence!!) I think the others wouldn't mind too since you get to learn new word/phrase each day...
*gasp* Back to topic...yeah, Dan and co should stay in the movies...

I think that maybe Dan and/or Emma or anyone else from the movies might have a problem (MAYBE!) of getting other acting jobs cause they'll probably be kinda type-cast as the roles they had in Harry Potter. You know what I mean? Especailly Dan, so I think they should all finish the series, cause it might not be so easy for them to get a job afterwards.
I'm not saying that this would be a for sure thing. It could happen and it could not. It all depends on the actor. Like Rupert I think he won't have any trouble at all, since he is such a great actor and Emma's pretty good (grr...hate admiting that) The adult actors could definitely move on to other things though... Dan is a good actor, and has gotten better over the years, but he's still not great...not get mad all you Dan fans. I mean, I can still, even with PoA, see him acting awkward where he shouldn't be, or I can see that he's acting you know what I mean?
But I still want him and all the other actors to finish out the series. Regardless of age.

You know...I've been thinking...
Remember how Cuoron (or is him?) change the location of Hagrid's hut in the PoA. And, how Sitara Shah (played 'Parvati Patil' in previous 3 movies) get replaced with someone else in GoF...
I was thinking...is this another way the film makers trying to prepare us to accept changes in movies and not stick on previous movies? They changes quite a bit in PoA (such as Hogwarts robes with house colour as lining along the edge...)
What if they actually trying to tell us that things can change, actors can change...the trio might change!! (Nooooooo!! *gasp*)

I don't know... These aren't the books with clues in every place!
I think it's just because there's a new director, he had new ideas and new views of how things should look, and that's how it got changed.

To be prefectly honest, I don't think so. When the 6th one flims Rupert, the oldest, will be 18 going on 19, playing a 16 going on 17 year old. 3 years isn't that big of a strecth, and they could make them loke yonger with make-up.

here in the US older actors play kids all the time. It isn't that unusual.
My kids are big disney channel fans and most of their shows are supposed to be about junior high aged kids (from about 11-13) But in reality most of the actors are closer to adults than they are kids. Some of them are even over 20. I don't think that having the kids play a few years younger will be too hard to do. But if the media keeps making a big deal out of it, they may ruin it for us as it may get WB to thinking thekids are too old.
I would be very sad if they replaced any of the trio, and neville. I really wouldn't care if they replaced Draco, because to be honest I thought that Tom Felton didn't do so good in PoA anyway.
I don't much like the look of him. He reminds me of Eminem. Don't know why, but he does. I know some people think he is cute. I thought he was when he was younger, but he has sort of grown past that. Even though I think that Draco is a rat, in my mind, he is good looking.

heh heh heh....
Aw.....well....I guess there's worse people he could look like!!!
I actually really like Tom...he did an interview back in May over here on a Saturday morning kids show and he seemed like a genuinely funny, nice, friendly, approachable guy. And his language is certainly better than Eminem's!!!
It always really tickled me the way that Tom's voice must have broken halfway through CoS though....you can really tell that the scenes in Diagon Alley were filmed later than the rest of the movie....he's several inches taller in those scenes and he sounds like he's on helium for the rest of the film!! So funny....
But anyway....
Nah, I've said before that I don't think any of them will be too old for their parts. John Travolta and the rest got away with it in 'Grease' and at one time they were considering Kate Winslet for Fleur Delacour, so I don't think age is really an issue.
I think that it's far more likely that one or more of them might get fed up with the whole thing and want to do something else.

I really don't think they're too old. Actually, when the last one came out I rewatched the other ones which I hadn't seen in a while. Especially the first. I couldn't believe how young they looked, and I guess you don't really realize it until you see them older. I can't wait until the next movie, and I hope they play all the movies. I get attached to the way things go, and I don't like when they change things like major characters. It just annoys me, but for HP, I think I would scream!

I think Tom Felton is starting to look very old. Wasn't he around 17 or 18 during the third film? And Rupert Grint seems to be growing fast as well - though I think Ron is supposed to be tall, so it doesn't really matter. Even Neville grew! He's supposed to be short but I guess you can't really prevent puberty can you?
I sincerely hope everybody makes it through all seven films, but you never know. It's a long time to go by and it's unpredictable. If they're starting to look a bit too old now, what can we say about future films and future years?
Makeup can only do so much. When it comes to that time where even makeup cannot assist in a younger appearance, some just might be replaced.

No Tom was about 15 I believe. Tom is the only one I think is to old for their part. In PoA, Emma was 12 for a few months of shooting and trun 13, Dan was 13 going on 14, and Rupert was 14. That's only a year older. After wacthing PoA again, I've kinda fallen in love with them as actors, they are just such good actors, it leaves me a little speechless.
