HBP is our first encounter with the inferi, and its got me really curious as to how they will be portrayed in the film. I mean, surely they wont go the old 'zombie' track, because they're not really described like that.

I wonder if they'll use real people made up, or if it'll be CGI? I'll come back and add more later, my computers due to crach any second rolleyes.gif
starlight
i think that it would be so much better if they used real people and then filled in with cg, but id they real people loooks too cheesy then the cg would work fine, just look at the dementors and lupin. they all turned out awesome.
Nimbus
Definitely real people. Haha, I don't know why but the Thriller video is all I can think of. I'm thinking like if you drunched the dancers in the thriller video with water, that's how the inferti in the cave would look....minus the dancing of course smile.gif

I mean they actually do look scary in the thriller video
Sofie
I think they will use real people with a huge amount of make-up. I can imagine them looking like the dead peole under that lake in LotR-TTT.
I hope they wont make them look like zombies....green skin with yellow eyes and stuff. It wolud ruin everything blink.gif
YoungLupin
I think that the Danish HBP cover portrayed them really well actually. Just the right mix of real yet scary. blink.gif

I think that if they get it right then that scene could be ph34r.gif
Padfoot313
I like the portayal of the dead in the water in the LoTR. They were what I thought of right away when describing them under the water int eh cave. That would be great, real people, with green-toned makeup rather than the white ghoul look.
Snapelover
I would use real people and then spice it p with graphics later. But with all of that, I wonder, would the presence of Inferi casue too high of a rating? I mean, if they do create them in a "Zombie" way, then it could get a bit creepy for little ones. My 5 yr old nephew is afraid of CoS because of the big snake! tongue.gif
Quality Quidditch Supplies
I like real people over CG's any day of the week.

I liked the LotR dead people, as well, and I think that was a mix...

I think that if they're just extremely pale, with tattered clothes and such, that would be great. They have to be fleshy, as Harry cuts the ones chest open with Sectumsempra but nothing happens.

I also think that they should move like real people, though slightly creeping. I imagine them crawling out of the lake in droves, sort of looking like the Black Rider sniffing around. But I also see them standing and walking towards Harry, not with their arms out all cheesy like, but just walking. Personally, I think that something you know is real but you also know is just completely evil is worse than something fantastically evil. The Black Riders in The Fellowship scared me more than the dragon riding wraiths. Even in the book, I just had this dread of the riders...I think that if somethings more realistic, it's more strange to us, something familiar and acting in ways it shouldn't makes it more unknown than the surface of Mars, and we're more afraid of the unknown than anything else.

Snapelover, I doubt that a HP movie would get an 'R' and that's the only thing higher than GoF. I also don't forsee the rating droping back to a 'PG', as the books are getting darker, so I'm sorry for your nephew.

Funny bout that snake though, I was more scared of the dadgum spiders. I have a completely founded fear of spiders, and in the theatre for CoS I was literally pushed all the way back into the seat. Had marks on my back. tongue.gif
Darth_Oz
Yeah, I concur with this - they shouldn't look like "conventional" zombies but have an awkward, almost inhuman movement.

Simply get a load of nude people and cover them in white greasepaint - give them blank contact lenses and put it all in the silent darkness and it'll be more than frightening!

Hallowe'en soon too! unsure.gif
cheeky_Luna_wannabe
I think they should use real people with pale skin/ make up and they should move naturally but keep there heads fixed forwards and never move them as that would be creepy! sad.gif
Tuitus
I agree the corpses should be mixed with actors and CGI Inferi surfacing farther from the isle. Do JKR's Inferi make zombie-like noises? I hope not. tongue.gif They were described as having blank eyes, would the actors wear contacts or would it be better if the special effect team make the Inferi eyes blank after the fact?
0maga
i dont no why but inferi even though there arnt any zombies in the movie always remind me of the movie final destination lol!!

But i think there going to look more like dawn of the dead zobies

heres a point these inferi are going to look worse than normal inferi (not that you can probally get worse) because they would have been rotting in the water for all that time so their going to be decoposing inferi creapy!!
priori_incantatem
Remember in Pirates of the Carribean when they had those pirates who turned to the walking dead? I think some of the inferi will look like that, the ones who died a long time ago. The fresh bodies will probobly be played by actors. Then, they'll have the bodies that have most of the skin left on them. Ewwww....
Giannabella
I don't know why but ever time I've thought of the Inferi I've always picture them in the sense that they are human in structure but they're covered with thick, brownish skin that is all wrinkled. Kinda what an 80 year old would look like if they spent too much time in the sun their whole life. The Inferi in my mind are naked but with no defining features to seperate the males from the females and no defining facial features either. I don't know why but that's how've I've always pictured them.

I really, really don't want them to make them like the traditional zombies, because I think that would be kinda cliché. Rowling chose not to name them zombies because she didn't want them to be like the cliché (atleast I think so), so I don't think they should be like that in the movie. I don't think they would make a sound, as that would make them kinda unable to sneak up on people... If they sneak up on people at all that is... I don't know if they'd use real people or CGI though...

I absolutely agree with you, padfoot 313. As JK described the inferi in the lake for the first time, I immediately related it back to Sam's first discovery of the dead in the lake in LOTR. "Look, in the water, there's dead things...dead faces." "Yes...Elves, and mens, and orcses..."

even the conversation between Harry and DD when Harry realises the inferi inhabiting the lake reminds me of that bit. not with the same words, but you know what i mean! not that i'm saying there's anything fishy about the similarities, but i personally just made that connection. it would be good to see the inferi portrayed more like that, rather than the worn out "zombie" cliche, unless they come up with some new and fresh spin on it, that totally recreates the inferi as JK describes them.
Hermione_Granger_246
Almost everyting is the Harry Potter movies is CGI, and im not complaining, i find Computer Animation fascinating, but, at he same time as saying this, Voldemort was a real person, with some CGI retouching, so maybe they will do that, because i think that adding CG images into the water would be realyl idfficult with all the reafelctins/refractions, unless they add CGI water too, i dont really know, but i cant wait to find out! 1eye.gif
yellowbelly821
i think they will use realy people.. because for things like the dragon, basilisk... even merpeople...you couldn't make humans look like that really... but you canf or the inferi because they are... or were.. people. make up artists probably can make them look drowned.. kind of bluish purple tinges.. and then cgi to add like someone said... rotting bits! if you've seen castaway.. theres a dead person wahsed up on the shore and that is mingin... that would be a good look...

i think i agree they wont put the rating over 12A (in england) thats what it was for GoF..because the majority of people that want to see it are under 15 which is the next level... so yea... and there arnt age restrictions on the book... but you never know if they do make it proper scary they mite do it... too much beurocracy in this country!!

Hiya yellow, and welcome to the VTM forums. smile.gif

Could you take a moment to stop by the rules forum. It only takes a moment and it'll keep mods from pesterin ya tongue.gif Your post above was littered with net-speak, and as this is an open forum, we welcome people from all contries to join in the discussion, but for them to do that they need to be able to understand what's being said.

Anyway. Stop by the rules link in my sig, the noobies is a good place to start also. And if you have any questions, feel free to PM myself or another Wizengamot or Head Auror. We're here to help! smile.gif

I believe that Inferi will look like the dead people at Lord of the rings (remember in the lake?). They will be white-grey, with blurred blue eyes and with very thin hair. But, they won't be scary, kids will watch this. Was anyone scared by Voldemort? I wasn't. This is the case at this situation too.
Sirius.James
Oh, geez, I hope they're not CG. Ugh. I hate how so many directors use CG. Well, the close ups should be real people made up. When they're attacking Harry. It's really great that we can use CG now, and everything looks so phenomenal. But when it's not necessarily used, it can be really over done.

In the Lord of the Rings: the Two Towers, the figures in the dead marshes were real things, they were made of wax. I was very happy they weren't CG. And it looked great.

Peter Jackson's really great, I like him a lot. I think the Lord of the Rings trilogy was done superbly. BUT, in King Kong he used tooooo much CG, on unnecessary things, like 15 minute long dinosaur chases. And I just didn't really like the movie because I got bored about 4 times for a period of 20 minutes.

So, I hope the inferi look pretty cool, and not CGed out and cheesy.

Harry_Ginny777
i think they are just going to use real people and just make them up for the Inferi in harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince but knowing they make up artist in Harry Potter Films thye Inferis will look like Real Dead People.
wizardofoz
G'day. Has anyone seen 'Shawn of the Dead'? I reckon the extras cast from that could be used as the Inferi! Or maybe not.
Spencer Potter
Haha yeah, but I think it will be real people of course with loads of makeup and suits and extra skin, ew. All that bad stuff. But Off Topic here, I just figured out how people do stunt doubles, hee hee. happy.gif
Harry_Ginny777
like i said it is going to be real people but in lots of make up and stuff like that to make them look dead of course. i think it will pretty awesome to see the inferis in the cave it will be so wicked. i can not wait but of course i am going to have to wait to see the 5th movie

yeah it would make the film look cheesy nd **** i hope they dont use real people coz theyll only look like zombies i hope they do something like the piarattes of the carrabean dead mans chest wer the people are like a sea creature sort of thing
ILoveHarryPotter07
I think that the inferi should be scary. But at the same time I think that people should feel the emotion of scared but horror as well and a sense of how the heck can anyone do that to people. I think that that is how it should look and be made. I have pictured the inferi a bit to the trailor of Dawn of the Dead (never seen the movie) except without the blood. I also picture them with flesh..but i think that the flesh should be peeling and peely with muscle showing through. I think it would add to the horor. Also I think that people will begin to feel bad for Tom Riddle and his family and his upbringings after seeing the flashbacks, so I think that this would be a good way to wake everyone up to the monster he really is. As for the eyes. I think they should be CGI-ed and be black and hollow, maybe some muscle hanging out. I know that what I decribed sounds amazingly gross lol..but that is because it is gross. And I think that they need to be portrayed in a gross way.
All for now

In my opinion the Inferi would be great if they look like Samara Morgan, in The Ring! And all of her body and looks, nothing was CG. Only make-up and lenses. I know because I saw the Making The Movie of The Ring. It took 5 hours for the make-up artist to finish with Samara. And she has that white dead eyes that JK describes.
When I'm reading the part when the Inferi come out of the lake, it's the only thing that comes to my mind: Samara Morgan coming out of the TV, with those awful finger nails, all broken and so... happy.gif
The only thing different is that the Infery must be more thinner... After all they're dead brought lo live!

I have inferi pictured in my mind in a certin way and i know i will not be happy if it is not how i pictured it dry.gif but im torn. i think the cg with lupin was great! it made me think there was a werewolf right next to harry (also i would like to add that the HP version of a werewolf was superb i loved how it was more umm manish). Also you canot forget the great work on buckbeak. though for inferi they would be so much more dramatic if all these real looking creatures were coming at harry things that look and feel more real are always better and more scarry because it has to be scarry i meen come on its reanimated dead people!
Hermione10
Hey! Great topic about the Inferi! biggrin.gif I really don't know how they will show them! Hmm.... I think that they will gona make them like some zombies touth... Some dead walking people... Sounds like a zombie description huh.gif I'm really curious now about this teme laugh.gif
hoju_88
I hope that they dont make them look like zombies the inferi should be totaly new creation like dead people with a aura of darkness comeing from them really pale they need to try and incorerate magic and dead people together that would fit the picture of the inferi
potter's_gurl
i think i'll be a lil scared of them

who am i kinding!lol i'd love to see them!!!!
i hope they inclued them!
what do you girlz and guyz think?
Harry Potter Fan
If they do end up putting Inferi that would be interesting to see. Will they cast actual actors or will it be done using CGI? Opinions please.
Seriouslysirius
I defiently think it will be real People... Because they did it on Doctor Who with real people and then just added some CGI to the faces and prospheptics.. (Spelling?)
It looked great in Doctor Who so i should be even better in Harry Potter.
hgsupporter
Well at first, I thought about the dead men in Lord of the Rings I think it was the second movie when Smeagol, Frodo, and Sam walk through a dead marsh and you see white faces with white eyes in the water. I thought in my head that they were dead people completely white and boney and are wet. I'm really looking forward to what they look like though. But that's till 2008 sad.gif

That's the exact image I see when I read about the Inferi. Especially the way her body moves. It's all twitchy and weird and creepy. Nothing about that movie scared me other than the fact that she looked creepy when she walked.

I hope that the Inferi look like that and I hope they use real actors because the girl who played Samara was able to act it out very well and she's young.

Ugh. These movies need to come out more quickly.

I'm so excited.
kthnxCRUCIO
I'm pretty sure if they looked like zombies, it would most definitley ruin it for me.

I think that they should use both. Real people and then add more to it with the CGI's and stuff.

Hopefully it will not be cut, because i would be quite dissapointed, and if its not, which it better not be, then hopefully it looks good, cuz that's something im looking forward too.

oh, I rekon they'll use real actors...with pale skin..bloodshot dark eyes...and scarred appearances...and some other graphics to improve the effect of the inferi's...it is also something that I am definatley looking forward to seeing...
Vickii
In my mind, I imagined them scarier than the zombies on dawn of the dead, but almost, I imagined them like greenish colour, because I also imagined the water a slight green colour, with weeds & such in.
Weasley King
sorry if this is off track, but i haven't read many of the posts here yet.

I think it will be hard to portray the inferi. We only see them vaguely at the lake and in the portrait in Snape's DADA class room. I do have to be scary as hell though.

I don't know about the bloodyness, i don't think that will come into play. But I do hope they don't show them merely as what look like zombies
monkeymushroom
Well Zombies share no expression whatsoever and thats, in a way what inferi should do; inferi are dead bodies which move in timing with magic. It will be particular hard not to make them resemble likness to Zombies because even without trying to they will always be pictred as zombies. However, i do contradict that zombies are a form of ghost and WAKE UP on their own conditions and free will, whereas, inferi don't.

"The Inferius is a corpse that has been reanimated by a Dark wizard's spells. It is not alive, it is merely used as a puppet to do the wizard's bidding"

As from this bit of information i can imagine, when Harry is confronted by an Inferi in the cave, them with their eye's closed and their bodies almost lifeless. But then again if it is made difficult to tell the difference between an inferius and a human being then perhaps they will walk and move exactly like a live human would and so cannot be similar to a zombie because zombies stumble, whereas, an inferi would be almost fluent in motion.

I read in the book that JK's exact description of the Inferi were "men and women with SUNKEN, SIGHTLESS". Therefore the movie make-up artists could make them so that their eyes were white with no pupils whatsoever. I hope that they will make these Inferi look scary and completely frightening to watch, particularly in the end sequence, where Harry is grabbed suddenly by one and then confronted by many at once, because i wouldn't want them to look all comical like they did on that stupid Shaun of the Dead (that was utterly ridiculous!!!). No, i want them to be PERRRFECT so that when i look at it in November 2008 i will want to immediately hide behind the seat and cry of fright.

I don't know about anyone else but in the fourth film when Ron, Hermione, Cho and Gabriella were taken by the merpeople they looked really strange, all pale and dead like

I think that they should make the Inferi look like them when they're just lying under the water and Harry sees them, (made out of wax like in GoF) Like someone said on here before I didn't picture them with any distinguishing body parts, they should kind of be like barbie and ken....I used to find it hilarious that Ken had nothing there but thats how i imagined the Inferi.

When the Inferi start to move i think it should be real people, but touched up with CGI in post-production. They shouldn't move like conventional Zombies though they should move naturally like normal people do but they should look awkward at the same time, as if they haven't moved in ages (which they haven't because they're dead) They should like quite stiff and confused but still as human as they can get.

x
HRH_Hermione
What if the inferi were like a whole army of pale Golloms(from LOTR)? That would be freaky.

I imagine them as naked versions of the men in the Dead Marshes from LOTR. I imagine they move at a medium speed, but very smoothly and even snakelike. I've always thought they would have normal looking eyes (pupils and all) but that there is no light, no reflection in them. Dead eyes that don't see, just stare. They don't look around because they don't have to.

Cheers!
Lav
i think they should be like the ones in LOTR they were really good, if they looked like them i would be well freaked out because they looked so real.

I think they should walk like a normal person, because if they walked like zombies you might as well call them zombies!

But i imagine them to look like humans, but act like puppets, as if they are not incontrol of what they are doing... get what i mean, not like bobbing along kind of puppet, just the kind that dust have any control!
razzberry2
I think they would be washed out, non-expressive, almost ghost-like figures of the people they once were. But more solid. Possibly slightly bloated too (as they've been 'residing' in water for some time) and definitely they have to have that souless look about them - like they're there, but not really there. (If you know what I mean) I can heartily agree with the whole 'eye' thing!

I can see the LOTR swampy battlefield of the dead corpses as fairly close, but the first difference would be that the inferi would be clothed in muggle dress or wizard robes, and secondly, I think they would display the more clammy - though perhaps not rotting signs of having been dead for many years.

I don't know. We could be wondering for naught. Maybe they'll skip them all together? I can't imagine it, but I've said that before...
Lav
i don't think they will ski them out they are pretty important to the cave scene! i just hope that theyre not all put in as specail effects, but they use real people for the ones at the front and then them again all mixed up nearer the back (get what i mean, like what they did in legally blonde 2)

but yea they should look dead (obviously) like in LOTR, because they are really good, though they are mad out of wax so thye would look like they have no life left... aww well, maybe they should just use wax wacko.gif
Seriouslysirius
I mentioned this before... I think but if te Inferi where CGI i reckon it would ruin them. The only way to strick fear in me is to make it more human. So use make up i say which is what i reckon they will do. Just use the make up effect to make them look like the walking dead. Like done in many films/ t.v Series. I will look forward to seeing them on screen. And i hope they make them look good. biggrin.gif
PottyHead
Yeah I reckon they should be human too, but with like little parts done in CGI maybe, like how they did Ralph Fiennes face in GoF, it was mostly normal, only his nose was done in CGI, so I reckon they should do something like that.

I agree that they would be more scary if they were human because it would kind of be like you were looking at a real person who's started to decompose and decay not some CGI thing that supposed to be a person who's rotted...

x
Flighty Temptress Adventure
They should use the same zombie plan that Shaun of the Dead did. biggrin.gif
sockr24
they should be real people that look like the ones on the danish cover of hbp. they really look awesome.

they just look really pale and really skinny with blank eyes, dirty skin, and ripped up clothes
