Matthew
Hey all!

If you haven't read it on the main page yet, I was privileged enough to see GOF twice last weekend, and although I'm not allowed to publish a review of it until Nov. 18, I'll be more than willing to answer any questions you all may have about it!

If there's anything you'd like to know, just reply to this thread and I'll get back to you ASAP. But one thing, before anyone asks....Ralph Fiennes was absolutely AMAZING as Voldemort. By far the best performance of any of the actors - kids and adults - in all four HP movies. He completely blew me away.
Allie
I wonder why this thread hasn't been seeing more action? huh.gif You'd think that something like this would be really hot. Guys, OUR MAN'S SEEN THE MOVIE!! *points at Matthew* You have one of the most valuable fan resources on the Internet at your disposal! laugh.gif

Okay, I'm slightly obsessed with minimizing spoilers this year (both for HBP and GoF), so I'm not going to ask too much. I've been avoiding all the new footage like the plague (with the exception of the trailer, because now you can't go to the movies without seeing it tongue.gif), but I think I can afford to ask about a few small things, just because I have the primary source. wink.gif

I guess my major question is whether the Yule Ball and romance in general constitutes as large a role as the trailers let on. Based on the trailer and the pictures, it seems like everything is who likes who, who likes who, who likes who. Do you think they're just trying to sell the movie to non-hard-core fans by playing up the sex in the previews, or are all these Harry/Cho and Ron/Hermione scenes that we're seeing a fairly accurate representation of the plot?

Anything you have to offer is great, and I'll work on more not-so-spoilery questions later in the week! biggrin.gif

I've heard the new soundtrack and for the most part I like it. But the way a song sounds changes greatly when put against a moving picture. I'm just wondering if you think the over all score is better, worse, or about the same as the old stuff? Like is it totally different or could you not even really tell the composers had been changed?

I really want to ask you about the graveyard scene, Matthew...

Its great to hear that Voldemort is brilliantly evil, but I was a bit worried about the whole chanting bit that Wormtail does. On the clips it looked a bit corny, so I want to know what you thought of it. Does it come out fabulously creepy, or is it a bit camp??

And whats the verdict on Barty Crouch Jnr? I liked the looks of him in the clips, is he totally wicked in the film? Does it matter that they introduced him into the first scene at the Riddle house?
Krieltje
This thread isn't getting much attention huh.gif I didn't even notice it existed 'till I clicked on a link in Tuitus sig *blush*

I want to know about Cedrics death, how did they bring it, was it shocking or sad? And when Harry cried over Cedrics body, how did it look? Please tell me that his grieving looked realistic and I want details Matt! rolleyes.gif

That's it for now, If I'm going to ask everything I want to know you'd be making overhours tongue.gif

If you go to MuggleNet you can read a review of the movie from start to finish and in great detail. One of the people who does that website went to a premiere and already published their review on the movie.

I can tell you by reading the review that the Yula Ball is nicely done, the graveyard scene is what gave the rateing PG-13 and it was said that it was done very good. On Cedrics death scene you do see him die and harry bringing his body back.

If you want all details like I said go to Muggle Net, but don't be surprised if you get disappointed on things because there is a lot that was cut out of the movie and charcaters also.
Omerus_Banning
What can I say, Matt? You lucky dog, you!

My question to you is a simple one: Should I line up the night before the world premiere to get into the first showing? cool.gif

On the Mugglenet review: Wouldn't someone get trouble for posting a review ahead of the release??

Cheers!
Dominique
Hey Matthew.. aren't you lucky that you got to see it.. twice! tongue.gif Thanks to Krieltje by the way, who showed me this thread.. actually, I just clicked your signature.. heehee..

My question: How accurate was the movie to the fourth book? I mean, were alot of things changed? Or did it sort of stay the same? I really liked the fourth book, so it would be a dissapointment to me if they changed alot. Of course I know some things had to be changed due to the timing issue, but I am hoping that there weren't any major changes.. Any hints? wink.gif

Thanks Alot!

That's odd. I was under the impression that all who saw the film were placed under a strict gag order not to release a review and definitely not give away a play by play of the movie before the release date.

ok, i have only one question:

is DD character really messed up? after reading several reviews and watching the trailers i guess so. but of course, you know better, so...how bad is that?

On the Mugglenet review:  Wouldn't someone get trouble for posting a review ahead of the release??

I'm wondering that as well actually- from what Matthew's said, I have the feeling that noone was meant to post a review and therefore Mugglenet could get into a lot of trouble if a contract agreement was breached?

Edited to add--- the reviews that have been posted up there- just for other people's 'FYI's', seem to be all the early reviews that were shown around a couple of places before the movie was finished.

About the movie--- I want to know how the trio (in particular)'s acting was. I found that in the third movie, Emma's acting especially wasn't nearly as good as the earlier movies- very wooden, but the acting and blocking in general was very 'stage performance'.

It was very- first I'll say this and then I'll walk over here and put my head in my hands etc etc. It was very wooden and staged- not really all that natural at all.

The review that was posted on MuggleNet was from a reader named Michael who got to see the movie on Oct. 19th. If you want to go to MuggleNet and check for yourself you can just go to the News Acrhvies it was posted on Oct. 22nd. Or better yet click on this and read for yourself.MuggleNet. I have no idea what the rules are on when to or not to post a review, but this person did. I just thought that this would answer a lot of questions about the movie on what was cut and what wasn't. Sorry that it upset some people.

1) Did the trio seem too old for the ages they are playing?
I really felt this while I was watching POA, but I am hoping the acting and directing was better able to keep them 'in character' in this one.

2) Were there many bits that made you get angry/annoyed because of differences to the book? Often I feel the story is much weaker due to changes. Obviously you can't put it all in a movie, but did anything really stand out?

3) Do you think somebody who had not seen the previous movies (yes there are still a few people out there -but not me) would enjoy it, or do they really have to see the others to understand any of it? A lot to ask I know, but a really well made movie can usually stand alone.

4) Is it so good that I should fly overseas to see it ASAP rather than wait the extra two weeks for it to show in Australia? smile.gif

ohmy.gif One burning question lol. All of my others have been answered. Did thye leave in the H/Hr kiss? thanks.
Matthew
Here we go...sorry for the delay!

Allie - The Yule Ball was said to be a centerpiece of the film, but I didn't really view it that way. It was definitely featured, but no more so than the three tasks. There is quite a bit of romance, though, especially after the Yule Ball.

Solorund - Well, the soundtrack's on AOL now, so feel free to give it a listen for yourself. I loved it, though - blended in brilliantly with the film.

Razzberry - Came out fabulously!! David Tennant as Barty Crouch, Jr. is perfect. What a brilliant actor! And it actually does help that he was in that scene...I could see that happening in the book.

Krieltje - Shocking and sad, yeah, but only shocking for the first few minutes. Once they return from the graveyard, the fact that Cedric is dead starts to sink in and everyone gets quite emotional. Harry's crying is much improved over PoA.

Omerus_Banning - YES!

Dominique - Not all that close to the book, but it kept the spirit of it. A number of things were changed, but overall, I thought it worked well.

Sofie - Yeah, it is, unfortunately. Just too visibly flawed for me.

Pixymajik - Acting improved all around. smile.gif

Bajab -
1) No, not really.
2) Yeah, mainly Dumbledore's character and the parting of the ways getting cut.
3) It'd be a bit difficult to pick up, but you'd catch on...eventually.
4) Only if you're really rich!

LalitaPotter - They did. But it's a kiss on the head and completely unromantic.

Hey, thanks for the reply Matthew biggrin.gif It's still going to be two weeks before I get to see this film so I'm glad to hear that even though they changed the bit with Barty Crouch Jr around, that it comes out great. Same with the graveyard scene too, although, I wont be the hardest person to please because I know its the film, not th book!! And what I've seen so far of the clips, it looks amazing.

hehe... I just popped in a read the thread about what other people thought about it too, and I have to say, even though there are complaints, they are only about stuff we knew wasn't going to be in it anyway, and its the first film they've had to make where the book was twice as long, so its no wonder really.

Still cant wait!! tongue.gif
welovehermione
who did JK Rowling play in her cameo??? cnt beleive we missed it!!
film soso, good and bad but we knew that it wud b sad.gif hum..... xxx
~potterizeme~
Hey everybody! I was suppose to go to see it today, but the weather was so bad, so i'm going Sunday instead. I heard that The Trio sing the school song. Are Emma and Dan good singers?
ashleigh07
I'm going to assume that those of youse who have yet to see GoF is either because y'all are still waiting on GoF to release in your country, or y'all have not yet been able to go due to lack of time or inability to acquire tickets. I'm also going to assume that because of this you guys are staying well away from thus GoF forum until you do. wink.gif (well *I* did that anyway tongue.gif)

That being said, as GoF *is* now playing in majority countries worldwide, I'm going to deem this thread redundant and archive it.
