Discuss the latest articles by Maddy (Hermione) and Camille (Luna) from the HP-Files!

Some column info:
QUOTE
Unlike Veritaserum's other columns, The HP-Files is written by two columnists. One (Camille) being Luna Lovegood, and the other (Maddy) being Hermione Granger. The first week will feature Hermione's piece on the subject while the following week will be Luna's piece on the same subject. Hermione and Luna are very different, as everyone knows, so each article will be attacked at a very different angle, allowing the reader to see all around the subject and not just the front. While Hermione's article will be very bookish and to the point, Luna's will be more open-ended.
Luna Lovegood
YAY! we now have a forum folder for our column biggrin.gif this is Camille btw, Luna...yeah, not really a mystery there huh. I'm very excited abotu our new column, and I'll bug Maddy to get on these forums too. So any questions, or comments about our latest articles? or even just general questions about us, go right ahead and ask *grins*
going to find Maddy,

[FONT=Geneva][SIZE=7][COLOR=blue]I don't understand why anyone didn't pick up on Justin Finch-Flechly. He had a small but slightly significant role in the CoS and we haven't heard much of him since. huh.gif ?? I am still in the process of combing through my worn copy of CoS to find possible candidates for the HBP. The answer is probably staring us all in the face, we just can't see it.
loooney
see I am positive lol that HBP is in fact Justin, so my thoughts r with you Dill

hmm, when I first read the Weasleys part I immediately thought "Arthur Weasley is the prince!!!" I dunno why, just a hunch. and maybe Ron's statement about them winning the Quiddictch Cup was as likely as his dad becoming Minister of Magic had some truth to it. Maybe because he's the prince the people of the wizarding world see him as a good candidate because of leadership. hmm, but then the problem of the Weasley family being pureblood arises. :sigh: i'm confusing myself rolleyes.gif thoughts anyone?
Luna Lovegood
Justin Finch-Flechly...hmmm. Definitely possible. One - we know he's not pure-blood with that whole afraid of Harry because he's gonna stick the "monster" on him. And that was a pretty small part in CoS. Also, recall he was down to go to Eton, I'm not a hundred percent sure, but not just anyone goes there right? real hoity-toity expensive type school. Plus what's with his last name? Is one his mum's maiden name and the other his father's? what's up there. I think it would definitely make things interesting if it was Justin.=)

Luna Lovegood
As for Mr. Weasley, I think he would make a wonderfully splendid MoM,
and the ministry sure does need him, but I'm not really rooting for
him. Think of the strain it would put the weasley family through let
alone the affect all the added stress it will have on Arthur. It'll
also put an even larger target on the family than before - I'm sure
they wouldn't mind since it's for the better of the wizarding world,
but eh? someone's got to look out for the weasleys don't they? =)
Personally I'm rooting for Amelia Bones; she seems fair enough.

ps. Maddy's net is down at the moment, but she'll be back soon. Her screen name in this forum is hermionegranger. no space =)

wait what if it's not a guy but there is still the prince part but what if prince didn't nessary mean to be a guy but a girl and that girl will be hermione because she's a halfblood (okay this is one of my crazy ideas i have but who knows)??????????????????
Luna Lovegood
when she says prince, i think the closest to "girl" ya gonna get is Tonks since she can change. or it would have been the half blood princess. plus, as far as we know Hermione is a Muggle born. the only way she would be half blood is if for some reason they had to cover it all up, but really. hermione is defititely not at the top of my list.
Matthew
Maybe she's just trying to get us off track...

A Female Prince?
Albeit the fact that whenever 99% of Harry Potter fans hear the phrase "Half Blood Prince," they think of a male prince, it is indeed a possibility for the prince to be a female. Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary states the following for their main definition of "prince": "The one of highest rank; one holding the highest place and authority; a sovereign; a monarch; -- originally applied to either sex, but now rarely applied to a female."

It would not be unlike Rowling to get most everyone sniffing in the wrong direction, and then surprise us all with the knowledge that the Half Blood Prince is a female. A simple glance at the dictionary opens more doors than there are in the Department of Mysteries...well, maybe not quite that many. ;-)

lol, fine biggrin.gif so there's still hope for hermione for you then. of course, if it can be a girl, then I'm rooting for Luna *grins*

it will be really cool if it's hermione!!!

I think that the HPB is none other than Dudley Dursley!

No really. It works out. Petunia comes from a wizarding family so it is possible that she is a Squib, which would explain her utter distaste for magic and magical people. It would also make Dudley a half blood. It is possible that Dudley would have been a wizard, but in exchange for taking Harry in, Petunia made Dumbledore promise to cut Dudley off from the wizarding world. But now that Voldemort's back, the wizards will need all the help that they get, so they have to reintroduce Dudley as a wizard, either that or Dudley will join the Dark Side (dun dunn dunnnnnnnnnn). And the fact that that family is "wizard royalty" would explain why Voldemort is so bent on killing Harry. (He either doesn't know about the Dursleys, or doesn't care since they are supposedly Muggles.

Maybe its far fetched but it is a definite possiblility. tongue.gif

Sorry to be a spoiler here and all...

Justin F-F: Is a muggleborn mudblood (to be blatantly obvious). He has muggle parents, to the best of my knowledge, and as thus can't be a half-blood prince.

Arthur Weasley: While I like how people are viewing prince as a leader like the minister for magic, Arthur is as pureblooded as the Malfoys so it is a little questionable on that count.

Dudley Dursley: Hehehe, no. Simply put, Petunia's parents were muggles, so that would make Petunia a muggle. Unless Vernon is a wizard, which judging by his familiarity with Dementors is highly unlikely, that Dudley would be pure muggleborn.

Hermione: While I like the thought that a girl could be the prince (I'm a guy so no girl-power stuff here, it just opens up more options for us to explore), Hermione is still a muggleborn (to the best of our knowledge). While Galadriel Waters says never take a character's word for it... it still seems unlikely that Hermione is a hidden half-blood...

Sorry to burst your bubbles and all, and not to be mean or anything. I'm just trying to play a voice of reason so that specaulatiopn doesn't get too far off track, although it is really early in the morning, so it is possible that I came across harsh...

PS- Does anyone know how you become a second year, or is there no second year???
FwooperSR
I think that the whole Dudley Dursley works if Petunia is a Squib, which is a valid possibility. Because technically a Squib is still a witch/wizard, meaning that Dudley would be a half blood. Its a twist but it sounds like something that JKR would do to throw people off track.

I think it would be very cool if it turned out Hermione was somehow the HBP...But I shouldn't get my hopes up. Maybe it's just me, but recently it seems like a lot of people have been suggesting Justin Finch-Fletchly as the HBP...but I'm very skeptical of that choice. In CoS we learn that he's muggle-born, and as the basilisk went after him, isn't that proof that he really is and doesn't have unknown wizard blood in his family?
Stranger
I honestly dont think it is hermione..after it is the Half Blood PRINCE!!! and if it was about Hermione....then it would be the Half Blood Princess or maiden or something like that......but that would kind of be a give away wouldnt it? I think thet the HBP will be a fairly new charactor or a new one introduced in the the book.
Luna Lovegood
author's note for "fandom": this is random, but that article was a bit more out there as in opinionated. the heirarchy is merely a sketch, but that's how i generally feel about the movies, so you all can stone me now *grins*

and yes, my bi-polar-ness is getting better now biggrin.gif

(like my new icon, i do i do!)
Stranger
I like your new icon !!!! laugh.gif
hermionegranger
Stranger, you're probably right about it being a completely new character...if we keep thinking that so-and-so's background is secretly different from what we've been told (example, maybe Hermione's a half blood, not muggleborn, or maybe the weasleys are not purebloods, etc) then we can't illiminate anyone from the possiblity. It will most likely be a new character...although in some ways I cringe at the idea of having to get to know a whole new character with only two books to learn about him...

maddy hands out tomatoes to the crowd in case they need them.

So what level on the heirarchy does everyone think they belong in? I think I'm somewhere between level 3 and 4. I know and understand that the movies are just one interpretation of the books and that they're just for fun and I should enjoy them, which I do. But there's still a voice in my head saying "That wasn't in the book! They added that in....they left this bit out! They didn't explain that!...that was poorly acted...." etc etc. But overall I really like the movies. Especially PoA. biggrin.gif
Where is everyone else?
Stranger
lol i just hope that the HBP is a male!!! lol that would be messed up!
Luna Lovegood
how would having a female half-blodded prince be bad? I don't see how not having a male in the forefront would be a problem. please explain.
Stranger
lol i think the reason it would be weird is because how can hermione be a prince when shes a girl???? or maybe in some kingd of prophecy in the book there was intended to be a male but it ends up being hermione or some girl instead!!!! lol im not critizing you guys because i think everyone has their own opinion!!!!!
Luna Lovegood

so see, when we think of prince today we think of mainly a male person, yet from it's orgins it is applied to either gender. We can't rule out the girls yet, plus if this is about having a girl steal a guys' thunder, then i just have to laugh.

this particular forum is for the discussion of mine and Maddy's weekly articles found at the link in my signature. This week is about the hp fandom world, so read the articles, and then come back to talk about them here.
Luna Lovegood
okie, Maddy's article just came out about hogwarts rooms, more specifically, the trophey room. any comments?

any ideas of what some of the other rooms will hold for the future?
ideame
did all the people that commented here just frop off the face of the earth. And what about the colums. Its been a month since the last editiorial was posed.
hermionegranger
Drop off the face of the earth? No, not as such...still alive and kicking...just a little bogged down...The next one should be appearing soon though.

But I'm glad you haven't forgotten us! happy.gif
ideame
SIGNS OF LIFE! SOGNS OF LIFE!!!! Ok so yea you were right, it did appear very soon. Although the biggest reason i asked is cause so many people that write editorials have gone back to school and dont have time now to do anything else. That kinda suprised me that it happened that fast to you guys. OK im really bad at conclusions and stuff so il just leave it like this.....
hermionegranger
haha well we are back at school...and things have been a little crazy lately for me, but I think they're finally calming down. (or at least, I hope) blink.gif
Luna Lovegood
lol, exactly...everything is very hectic =)

most days I can't even find time to eat...oh, the joys of college.

article update though - mine should be out within a week or two.

et oui, je vraiment souhaite que les choses se calmeraient, mais j'extrêmement doute qu'ils feront.

oh man. it's sad that I had to look up what you wrote there at babelfish to translate it into English. Je ne parle pas bien the francais. *le sigh* lol.

Ah. You've seen Garden State. Excellent movie, I must say.

lol, I dont speak french, but i love using freetranslation.com since french just looks coo'. biggrin.gif (love garden state)

Do you 2 know each other or did you just get randomly paired or what, cuase i would have thought you would have known if she spoke French or if she didnt but apperenty you didnt. OK i think im just trying to kill time right now but killing time is killing time right
hermionegranger
well we know each other, just not in person.

lol, yeah, what she said.

we're hp pals from way back biggrin.gif

You know I don't speak french right? I'm always doing phrases that I get from using free translation though. Wish I could speak french or any language for that matter; somehow, I no creer mi espanola counts..lmao, more spangish.

we should try to learn it together! *grins* it could be our new project...you know, in all that spare time we have wink.gif heehee
ideame
well do you 2 consult each other before writing a column or do you not even bother or what. And do any of you plan to write on like "important" things like the veil and the next MoM or are you just gonna write about the "non imporant but fun to read anyay" stuff

PS-feel free to ignore this post as it has absolutly no meaning whatsoever
hermionegranger
Camille: yes, I knew you didn't speak French, but I felt stupid for having to go look up what it was that you wrote since I took French up to grade 10...but apparently I remember hardly anything from it! haha...well, I can still say "Je ne comprend pas" which means "I don't understand" haha. And yes, learning french is definitely high on my list of things I don't have time for! laugh.gif There's gotta be a site somewhere that teaches basic french.... hmm...

ideame: yes we do plan somewhat before we write....we decide on a topic and then we each do our own thing and write an article. (btw, don't worry, your post did have meaning)
Luna Lovegood
I say we start on that project this winter break and in summer break. We can get "french for dumbies" and everything. And watch Amelie over and over until we start understanding it. But u'll prolly pick it up quick - me, it might take a while. I hear it's similiar to spanish though, and my spanish is like your french *grins*
hermionegranger
Yes! And I'd be able to watch the french channel here and finally understand Quebecois humour!! lol

Well, I might pick it up a bit faster...but I can't speak it properly. If anyone ever speaks to me in french, at first I have to realize "Okay, they're not speaking english." Then it's "I have to listen in french." and finally "Oh, I have to respond in french...using french words....what french words?" and I usually come up with "Je ne parle pas bien le francais" (I don't speak french well) lol. It's one thing to learn it *in theory* but another to be able to *use* it. That's my problem. Plus I have a terrible memory! lol

But yeah, you'll definitely notice similarities between french and spanish...i think they're both "latin-based" languages er something like that.
ideame
Yea they are Latin based. That is why the are called Romance Laguagues. Based off the Roman language. Actualy 60% of the English language is based off Latin even though we are considered like a Germanic languauge or something like that. I think it is in my Latin book, i'l look at it tommorow if I remember.
ideame
i guess that you dont come back here to look at this unless you get an email saying that someone has just posted on this thread. Well im posting but wheather you get an email is beyond me. I dont really understand how much it sends out an email.

you get e-mails for it if you subscribe to the thread.

Over the years since the first Harry Potter book came out, we've been tainted in a way. If a person is not constantly re-reading, then facts just seem to find their way out of our minds. The first book seems so long ago that much of it has been forgotten, which is the base of all else.

Very true. I honestly don't re-read the first book as much as the others. I tend to re-read bits of all of them to re-fresh my memory a bit, but the one I go least to is probably Philosopher's stone. In a way it seems very innocent. Although, when you think about it, it really isn't. I mean, you've got Voldemort inside Hogwarts for most of the book. But I guess it just seems innocent because Harry was so much more innocent and naive, maybe, at the time.

QUOTE
JKR tells us that the only feature that Harry liked of himself was his lightning bolt scar, and this was even after he found out he had received it in the "car crash" where his parents died.

I think over years Harry has started to dislike his scar in a way. It's how people identify him, and they'll see it, stare at it, know who he is and they assume things about him. I guess that's what it's like to be a celebrity: complete strangers know exactly who you are and think they know you. I had forgotten about the fact that Harry like his scar, though. Interesting.
hidallgo
i had a thought. i was re-reading CoS. the only real thing harry discovers is Tom being the heir of Slytherin. so that could foreshadow harry being the gryffindor heir. but that's too obvious. Fawkes came to him. I may be completely wrong here, but have we ever read of Dumbledore not being a half-blood. Its very possible isnt it? Fawkes came to Harry from Dumbledore. I belive that Doubledore is not only the heir of gryffindor, but the HBP.

Hello Colin and welcome to the forums!!

What you've just posted is off-topic, it really should have been here.

I've copied and pasted your post over there but I may not be so kind next time. Please make sure you post in the correct thread/section in the future. This thread is actually for discussing "The HP-Files" which is a column available on the main VTM site.

For some reason I thought maybe Harry's dad could be the Half-Blood Prince. If you have read the book and read when the Prince first gets mentioned, you may have that feeling too. It could be because we don't know anything about James' family so you never know.
