I think that the movie should have some continuity. Greyback should have some features of the Lupin wolf, but he is described as massive and he is totally evil. I have been watching the movie Timeline, and think that Gerard Butler could portray the werewolf Greyback and his natural looks are fairly wolflike so the transformation would require less work....in my oppinion. Greyback has to be huge and foreboding. Please let me know your thoughts of my choice for Greyback. The pack needs to be wolflike, but there are still humans underneath.
The Silver Unspeakable
I'm quite surprised at how many people actually liked the werewolf portrayal in the PoA film. Personally, I hated it. He looked more like some weird, overgrown, skinny, scrawny primate than a wolf. So I would like it much better (if they actually did end up showing Greyback transforming) if they did not follow along the same lines as the Lupin werewolf in PoA.
LES_CLAY93
totaly Daniel-Day Lewis!!!

He'd be fricken awsome!! laugh.gif
LES_CLAY93
Galian you are so wrong about the werewolf in PoA
it was AWSOME!!!!!

This is the one character I'm most interested in seeing who they cast. I personally think Geoffrey Rush would be absolutely brilliant as Greyback! I can't see anyone else in the role. He's just....perfect for it!
NightRider17
There are alot of different actors who would be great for this role but would they want to, it's not going to be a huge role, i don't think it will be big enough to attract A-list stars. But if it was here are a few suggestions and what i think about them:

Rupert Everett- I think he would be amazing as Greyback, he just has that physique and he looks like he could be a nasty blood thirsty werewolf/man.
Guy Pearce - He wouldn't be too bad in this role, they could make him look a little bit older and more rabid, not too bad of a choice, he might actually accept it too, more likely than others.
Hugh Jackman- He would be really good, he's one of my favorite actors, but i just don't think that this is a role that he would want, he just doesn't seem enough of an "animal" i know he played Wolverine, but he made Wolverine a little bit more..human.
Christian Bale - Again, one of my favorite actors but i just don't really see him in this role, one he probably wouldn't take it and 2, he just doesn't seem to look what Greyback should look like, however they could probably do something to make him look like Greyback and he would be amazing in that role.

My final conclusion is that they will probably just get someone who is somewhat of a "no-name" or someone who just hasn't acted in many movies and who wouldn't be instantly recognized by name. Either way, Greyback is going to be an awesome character to watch.
Jezebel
^ You make some good points.
The thing about Greyback is that while he may not be a huge character, he certainly is a significant one. And definately one they couldn't leave out of the film. At least, they shouldn't leave him out. He plays a crucial part in the story!

I think the man who plays this character has to be older. Rupert Everett, Guy Pierce, all those you metioned are good actors, but I just dont see them in this role. They aren't harsh enough, nor do any of them have the personality to play such a role.
This is why I think Geoffrey Rush would be perfect! Either him, or Bill Nighy might be a good choice as well.

It'll be intersting to see how this character developes, casting and story wise, as the time comes closer to the film being released.

I think someone has mentioned this before but i think Bill Nighy would be a great person to play him.
Ecspically after his performance as Davey Jones in Pirates of the Carribean 2 Dead Man's Chest.
Jezebel
^ Yeah. I menioned him in my last post happy.gif . I think he'd be brilliant. He's definately got that weird, creepy vibe to him that Greyback's got!
Sirius.James
I only read the first page of this, so excuse me if I seem a bit off discussion.

When in doubt for casting, CHRISTIAN BALE! Ha, it just cracks me up; whenever I try to think of someone who could play any character better, it's always Christian Bale. I really like him.

I, however, don't think he'd be suitable for the part of Fenrir. Possibly...I dunno. He seems a bit too young. Fenrir is described as having 'robes that looked uncomfortably tight' and Harry had to push him off of him with 'immense effort' so, I really can't picture him being thin at all, and a lot of the suggested actors are really, really skinny. Especially Bill Nighy. Bill Nighy is awesome...don't get me wrong, but he's way to skinny and old.

He doesn't look like the grungy, hairy, sweaty type. Nor does he look able to tackle or pounce on anyone. I keep thinking about the line "I wouldn't miss it, Dumbledore. Not when there are throats to be ripped out. Delicious, delicious." So---who ever could say that perfectly, would be perfect for Greyback.

<3
Jezebel
I dont think being thin would cause too much of a problem for this character. I mean, I certainly dont picture him as a huge brute of a guy (not that that's what you meant), so even though he's supposed to be powerful and strong, he can still be somewhat....thin.
I just see the age thing being a problem. A lot of actors suggested for the part are way too young. Christian Bale is an extraordinary actor, but yes, not near old enough.
beyondtheveil
I think Jeremy Irons would be a good choice. At the moment that's the only idea I can come up with.
tinkerbell_01
Two actors come to mind when i think of casting for Greyback. I like Christopher Walken, something about those eyes of his.he can be kinda devilish. but who im leaning towards most Iwould have to say that maybe jack nicholson would make a good ferir. he is not to young and kinda has that evilish look to him. i can actually picture him covered in hair as a wolf. and i can definately picture him attacking people of all ages and trying to rip their throats out. i know its highly unlikely that any of these actors would fill the part cause non are brittish, but i think that they would be good choices.
Seriouslysirius
Yeah Jebezel. Bill Nighy can play any people who have like an animalish behaviour to them.
Davey Jones = A squid and....
Greyback = Obviously a Werewolf.
Jezebel
@tinkerbell_01: I can see how Jack Nicholson would be a good choice, but only if we could get in a time machine and go back to 'The Shining' days. He's far too old and...fat...to be Greyback now. Well, maybe not too old, but his physique certainly is way below par for this character.
I definately see where you're coming from though. He's very animalistic.

Bill Nighy is looking better and better for this part. If I had to chose someone to play Greyback it would be Geoffrey Rush, but I honestly dont think they'll cast him. Nighy has a good chance. At least they should give him a chance! I think he's absolutely perfect.
Radish
I think I saw someone suggest this in another topic, but I reckon Gerard Butler would be really good. He's kinda young, but I can imagine him as the hairy type...no offence or anything biggrin.gif He's quite built up, and he's really tall (well, I say really, I mean around six foot 2) But I can see him all wolf-like and smelly. Not the best image, but I reckon he'd be good.

Some of the other suggestions, like Guy Pierce, Richard Roxburgh, Geoffrey Rush and Hugh Jackman are all Australian, so I reckon there'd be a slight problem there, but they're all awesome actors (I loved Richard Roxburgh as 'The Duke' in Moulin Rouge happy.gif )

I really hope they don't cut the character, but he's so super cool....and I can totally see Jack Nicholson saying he wants to rip out people's throats (and that's no compliment blink.gif )

Anyways...he's a wicked cool character that should be kept in!
Seriouslysirius
I think they will look like Lupin but with some black hairs like in Van Helsing. But not as much.
Personally i prefer the Werewolves in Van Helsing...
So i hope they will look a bit more ferecious..
So it can really show the character of the evil werewolves.
Jezebel
I think that if we were to see a transformation of Greyback in the film he would look much like Lupin. Maybe a little bit bigger though. I see him as much more powerful and stronger. Unlike Lupin, he likes being a warewolf so therefore he would have "embraced" this and become as strong as he possibly could.

Then again, if we were to see a transformation, I'd be very dissapointed. He doesn't do it in the book, so he shouldn't do it on screen. It would just be put in for entertainment's sake, and that's not a good thing wink.gif

Greyback is the character I'm most excited to see, and I honestly don't think they'll cut him out. He plays a significant part in the story and it wouldn't make sense to just leave him out.
padfoot17
Greyback I suspect is a fairly large werewolf. I think that he will be taller with more muscles. I think that his appearance will be awesome though. His face I think in the HBP was partially transfigured. Unless he wants to attack with his human teeth. But I would think with someone as crazy as him he probably carries around those werewolfish qualities wherever he goes.
LupinsAmortentia
smile.gif Seasonal Greetings to all.

I can't remember how old Fenrir is meant to be but I think that Christopher Eccleston would be a good choice. He used to be Doctor Who before David Tennant took over. I'm sure that they would pick an English actor or someone rather less well known than a big Hollywood star like Hugh Jackman or Jack Nicholson.
El Barto
What about Scott Speedman? He's in the Underworld series as Michael...the hybrid. He may be too young though blink.gif

What are the chances of them just CGI-ing him or not even casting him? Perhaps they'll only show Alecto, Amycus, and the Brutal-faced death eater barge onto the scene with Draco.
Jezebel
Hmm, I think Scott Speedman is far too young. Whoever plays Greyback needs to be older. At least over 40. Well over 40, possibly even in his 50's.
I got two Bill Nighy movies for Christmas and after watching them both (again), I firmly believe he is made for this part. As much as I'd love Geoffrey Rush to be cast, I know he wont. Nighy has a much better chance and I'd be thrilled to see him in this role.
El Barto
I think Bill Nighy would be good too, now that you mention it. He'd be, as far as I know (haven't seen all his movies), a werewolf, vampire, zombie, and cursed...octopus...thing (Harry Potter, Underworld, Shawn of the Dead, and Pirates of the Carribean). biggrin.gif

And you're right, Scott Speedman is too young. I guess Greyback is much older...especially to have bitten Lupin at his young age and know Dumbledore (not that he couldn't have met him sooner, though).

oh, i agree with you! i picture greyback as a bigger person than lupin and, of cause, with more muscles.
i found two pictures of greyback that somebody drew this is a sketch and this is a coloured one. they are pretty much like i see his face. lots of werewolf attitude and a bit more animal than human like. an evil expression on his face and bound to bit everyone standing in his way...
hope you like the pictures happy.gif
Jezebel
Those are good pictures #tigerlily#. Where did you find them?
Though, it's not quite how I picture Greyback. They're a little too muscular for my liking. I know Greyback has to be strong and somewhat bigger than Lupin is, but I dont picture him being so muscular. I think he's got more of a suprising strength. Like when you look at him you think, "Oh I could take him on". Then he attacks without warning, and much stronger and faster than you would ever have imagined.
I think Greyback has an inhuman speed rather than strength.
I wish I was good at drawing so then I could draw up a sketch of how I picture this character. Oh well happy.gif
#tigerlily#
oh, there is a site called http://acciobrain.ligermagic.com(you got to click on the dark mark!). there are lots of paintings and sketchs of harry potter characters (mostly slytherins).
maybe greyback is a bit thinner than on the pictures, but itīs pretty much the way i imagine him. he has to be a bit more athletic than muscular. and i agree with you that he has to be fast, so it wouldnīt be an advatage to just be muscular. he likes to hunt and attack people so his physics should show that. he is a violent and agressive man/werewolf...oh iīm so curious how he will be like in the movies!
gilly_wead
I personally think that they should make him look like Lupin because it would be weird to have the wherwolves look different. But in the book I did picture them with more fur. biggrin.gif
K_the death eater
I think that they should have Greyback look like they had Lupin because I don't think that Greyback would look good as a werewolf if he looked different. And when I saw PoA I thought that Lupin too would like kind of like the werewolves in Van Helsing.

wub.gif *Sirius* wub.gif
( Half-Blood-Prince)
i think greyback in human form will be seen as voldy was in the first moive when in the forest drinkin unicorn blood just a black robe with blood stained teeth showin...

i think the werewolf form will be different from lupin as lupin sees it as a sickness so his werewolf form looks skinny and weak. were greyback inbrases the werewolf i could see his form being more muscles and more healthy looking
richie-cynical
yeah bill nighy.
PurpleForge
I think a hairy non attractive actor would be best. However, I really doubt that they will keep greyback or bill in the storyline of the movie...I think they'll probably scrap that part.
lolly jar
I never thought about who would play this part as I thought that maybe the part would be cut. But if I had to choose someone I would have to go with Bill Nighy.
He is such a great actor and has played some wonderful evil roles.Especially in Underworld as the Vampire Viktor. He was creepy. And you had to love him as Slartibartfast in Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. He is so versatile.
Now I hope that they don't cut this character. biggrin.gif
~.:hogwarts.bound:.~
Ew! Greyback is so gross! I can't think of any ators but he's really got ot get into his part. Really has to feel it, well, not the like flesh eating feeling but well, you know what i mean! He's gotta be good!! Really nasty!! biggrin.gif lol!

~.:Hogwarts.Bound:.~
Felipe_Black
I think that even though the role of Greyback is not a big one, it may attract a "big name" remember there are no small parts, only small actors. I personnally think Jeremy Irons. He certainly has a great screen prescence and I think has something about him that lends it self to playing bad guys.
studabeg
They have to put greyback in number 6! It just occured to me that Greyback is like 20 years older than lupin...Whenever I've read the books I've pictured him around the same age or like 5 years older than Lupin. Maybe that's just me. If they could make him look older(which is possible with makeup now adays), I think Robert Knepper would make the perfect Greyback. He has a real evil and sly look to him which is how I've always pictured Greyback. If you watch Robert Knepper on Prison Break you'll see what I mean. He has a great way of representing a really evil and nasty character and is just a really good actor. So my votes for him.
lotfru
Yes, I have to agree with most of you!!!! Rupert Everett for Greyback! that would be awesome!
Peace!
LottyFrusc
ChOco
yeah, I rekon he'll look like lupin, but he'll be a bit fat & vicious, a bit greyish & off course stouter & more-hungry looking...

Ugh! That's the worst idea I've ever heard!!! Rupert Everett would totally ruin this character! I love that man, but seriously, he could NEVER pull this role off!

I'll never change my mind. Bill Nighy is by far the best choice. He's of proper age that Greyback should be, and he's got the same physique that I picture Greyback having. Plus, his acting is far superior to Rupert rolleyes.gif
Weasley King
I think they will go with somebody who is very much like David Thewlis and work on the guy with special effects and some really heavy makeuping.

Do you think the screenwriter will tweak it so that we see him transformed, because I wouldn't put it over on Knowles to do that, seeing as he did cut the Quidditch World Cup, the stupid blighter that he is.
Jezebel
I really hope they don't transform him. I have a fear that they will though. He didn't transform in the book so he shouldn't in the movie!

I don't think they will go with someone who looks like David Thewlis. Why would they? What's the point? Do all warewolves look alike?
The actor must be older than David. In the books Lupin is in his 30's, so Greyback must be at least mid-40's. Not too large either. That's another thing I'm really afraid of. I'm afraid they'll make him this huge monster, and I don't picture him being like that at all! He must be extremely intimidating, but not physically overpowering to look at. You know? His strength must catch people off-guard.
K_the death eater
I would have to agree with Jezebel on this one. I think that Bill Nighy would make a good choice to play Greyback. I mean he's done such a good job in the Pirates movies and I think that he may be a good choice to play Greyback. Otherwise, I can't think of anyone else who can play a really good werewolf or monstrous werewolf.

If i could choose I would choose either Mackenzie Crook or Robert Knepper. I really think Mackenzie would be perfect for the role if they made him look older, as I really think he has this look about him that would really suit the character. As for Robert Knepper just as studabeg mentioned earlier he has that evil look and slyness which would again work well as Greyback, which I imagined him as from the books. But again Knepper is not old enough, so they would have to make him look older or he would have to age about 10 years before they start the production of the film and the main factor that he is from America is the main problem.

As these two talented actors are almost certainly and unfortunatly not going to be included in the movie, my main choice would then fall to Geoffery Rush as I think he would be perfect for the role, is the right age and British. Failing this the casting directors should include Bill Nighy as their main target who is a wonderful actor who is verstaile and would be able to play the character of Greyback quite well in my opinion.

Jason.
~.:hogwarts.bound:.~
Greyback didn't actually turn into a werewolf in HBP. Dumbledore was saying how he thoguht it was disgusting that Greyback had grown a habit of attacking people while he was stll human. Though I tought the werewolf in PoA was really crappy. I don't think nyone actually pictured a werewolf really slimy like that.

Ohhh... but I hope Greyback id like really gross. Like, something that you look at and then ho have to stop pigging out on the theater junk food 'cause you're like "ugh.. that's kinda gross." I tihnk what gets me is that JKR said Harry could smell blood, swaet anf flesh in Greyback's breath, which I thought was totally naslt but awsome... smile.gif
K.Lupin_werewolf
hmmmm well i know i have been here before and posted who i thought but no i have another idea...

Liam Nesson --- okay so technically his name is William but goes by the name Liam.
he played Ra's Al Gul in Batman Begins and i am suggesting him for one reason mainly. his eyes. at some point in the film when he is teaching Bruce Wyane they do a nija sort-of battle whilst Bruce is under the influence of a drug. and well it's just that one bit as Liam backs aways when his blue eys light up eeirly. he has a beard and if you ruffed him a bit he could be good but it was those eyes... i had to say this. it might not be a great choice but he is a very good actor and it's been in my head for days so i had to say something. and well i think he's voice.. wow ... laugh.gif when you knoew he was the bad guy you were still listening to every word he said... longing for the next line...
laugh.gif or that could just be me.

Geoffrey Rush was my first choice for this character. He's who I pictured in my mind as I read the book.
Unfortunately though, Geoffrey is not British. He's Australian. So there's no way he'll be cast as Greyback (or any other character) sad.gif

I'm glad to see so many people catching on to the Bill Nighy idea. I'm so afraid (and probably rightly so) that he's not going to be cast for this role and I'll be so disappointed with who they pick! I guess I just shouldn't get my hopes too high, eh?
umbridge_must_die
I always thought jonny depp would be good for that part. I know he's really famous but he's a great actor and could be really good at playing a werewolf. Jeremy Irons and Geoffrey rush would be great too, as well as Matthew Macfadyen, they'd just have to make him look older.
ollie-hampson
they'll probably go with someone who has a similar body type as lupin so that it isnt exactly to much work for the animation department to convert them into werewolves if they include greyback as a werewolf. but if they dont i think that liam nesson would do a good job.

But i don't think he'll wanna do it thats the problem

i can't see why an established actor would not want to take part in such a well-kown series. well i would hope that if he was offered he wouldn't turn it down. i do think he would be a good Greyback. why do you think he wouldn't do it... laugh.gif it would be cool if he did. and he's Irish... but i don't know where he lives...i'm guessing he wouldn't be hard to track..laugh.gif

yeh true, and yes i have seen batman begins, he plays an amazing role as ra blah blah (cant type his name to save my life)

basically i dont particually care who plays him as long as there brittish and are a good actor because greyback sounds like a difficult type of character to play.

He's like the Robert De Niro of werewolves, if only De Niro was british
