Not me, I think that the new Dumbeldore isn't acting right. He's suppose to be a calm person, and not yell when harry's name comes out of the goblet. He's not acting it right...i miss our original Dumbeldore!

Oh I agree with Anglophile92, I like the old DD frome the first 2 movies. He fit the part perfectly. He wasn't as jump and excited as the one now. (Gosh, I really need to learn all of the actors names) He seems too youthful and not old enough. Its a shame that the first DD died...in real life.
Anyways, I voted for getting rid of Gary. Well technically, he won't have any roles after the OotP so thats a logical choice from me. I like the actors they have now. The only one that I would change is probably Tom Felton. He doesn't seem to be as enthused as he was in the first few films and he is getting rather old to play the part anymore and a logical change of actors would be in this movie or the OotP.

I completely agree with you guys...I just absolutely loved the first dumbledore...I thought he was so gentle and kind and he had a very soft tone in his voice that whenever you heard him, it was like everything was going to be ok... But with the new dumbledore...he just seems so rough and doesn't really care about harry at all. I agree when you say he's sounds too harsh when he "yells" Harry's name after pulling it out of the gof. I imagined that part (in the book) to be said more softly but in a shocked tone of voice...if you know what I mean.

Guess I'm in the minority here. I don't want anyone to leave. I think the casting was really well done. Especially not any of the trio or Hagrid. And not McGonagall, either.
These actors have pretty much really captured these characters for me, and I just wouldn't be interested in seeing the movies at all if they changed out the actors. This is especially true in the case of the main three: Harry, Ron and Hermione.

personally i think Snape should be replace i just look at him and laugh the actors trying his best and all its just he doesn't look like a villan to me im not quite sure what it is about him, maby its the nose, but i dont think he would be very good as snape in book 6

Oh, I know that Alan Rickman can play a VERY convinsing evil villain. I don't think he'll be out. We're not supposed to be convinced that he's evil yet. . .remember.
Of course, Oldman isn't around for much more, and I realize what they were going for with the Azkaban-look, but whether he fits the age or not isn't too important.
I don't think we can really justify calling out Micheal Gambon because of his "yelling harry potter." i don't think we can judge this until the movie is out and we view it in context. I think Richard Harris would have yelled a bit there too (harry being too young to enter and being picked, harry being the fourth champion. . .all not supposed to happen) I think he's entitled to a bit of yelling (whether in anger or shock). I think Gambon gets him pretty well as the eccentric old wizard. . .he's just a different style than Harris.
I, too, think they've hit most of the characters right in the casting and would be sorry if any were replaced this late in the game.

I also think that it would be disapointing to see any of the cast replaced. I think that it would be a shame to lose them so far into the series. I really think that the trio should stay but even replacing the supporting cast would be a bad idea. I think they are good in their roles. I could be more partial because I saw the movies before I read the books and therefore I used the actors and my visual.
I also think that people are being too hard on Harris. I think that the man who originally played Dumbledore (I can't remember his name off the top of my head) would have played the part very similarly. I think most of the blame should go on the director. Harris is playing the role the way he is being told to play it.

As a credit to how well the Dumbledore actors have actually made the switch. . .Giannabella, the original Dumbledore was Richard Harris. The replacement Dumbledore is Micheal Gambon.

hmmm, i like this topic. for me, i would have to say that i almost like all the casting. *almost* the one that i do not like would definetely have to be Michael Gambon as Professor Dumbledore. he's just too....i don't know, i just don't think he fits the character. now, alan rickman.....herm,,,,i love him! so, yeah, i think he does an excellent job; he is known <in america> as that one guy who stole Die Hard from Bruce Willis. i laughed when i read that somewhere. but anyway, he's perfect, he can stay
and as for gary, well, i think he works.....yeah, he works for me.
although, this has nothing to do with the subject, but i think alfonso shouldn't have made lupin have the mustache, it looked funny...i agree with you PigWithHair: | QUOTE |

I agree with PigwithHair. I don't want anyone to leave because it'll just mess up the entire series. I don't like what Micheal Gambon is doing with the role, but I don't want to have to switch to a third DD. I miss Richard Harris. He was awesome. I think that both MG and RH had their flaws. I think that MG is too angry and violent, while RH was kind...frail. He doens't seem like the kind of person you would seek protection from. But if you combined the two, well then. That would be a Super-DD!!!

I, with the majority, voted for Michael Gambon leaving, and Maggie Smith staying. I love her as an actress, and she's exactly how I imagined Professor McGonagall. But, again, like PigWithHair said, the series wouldn't be the same without him, or without anybody. If Michael Gambon would have been cast for Dumbledore instead of Richard Harris, we would've loved him. But, the reason that he sometimes tends to annoy us, is that we miss the one that we're used to...and don't like a change. So..think about how we would react if any members of the trio were replaced. It'd be utter chaos..

Alan Rickman is just prefect! (daaamn sexy!)
Michael Gambon isn't bad, but I prefer Richard Harris.
I don't really like Gary Oldman, I never imagined Sirius this way and I think the man that's playing Lupin is a bit weird, but Lupin is also weird..
Oh and no one said anything about Dan. I don't think that he's a good actor. He doesn't convince me; just too rigid.
Emma Watson is perfect also but she's too pretty to play Hermione
And Rupert Grint is a really good actor.
Lilly and James are really good actors but don't look like Harry; it's not a problem, we don't see them so much.
I really like the Dursleys lol I got used to them even if I didn't imagine them this way.
Hagrid and McGonagall are really good actors too.

I agree with the majority. I don't like the new Dumbledore. He is too...
weird. He is like this new funky, hippie head master. His beard and hair aren't the same color, and he doesn't talk the same or anything.
Now I'm not trying to say that he should imitate the older Dumbledore, but it would be nice if he changeed his acting style a bit.
R.I.P- Richard Harris. Our dearly departed Headmaster.

I had found an article and posted the link in the PoA film section, about costumes. In it, the costume designer said it was Cuaron's idea to drastically change DD's appearance, making him look like an "old hippie." So whoever said that was on the right track! Why did Cuaron do that? I wonder if he set the pace for DD's new personality too?
I think Michael Gambon is a fine actor but he's playing this part wrong. It might help if he actually read the books! Then he wouldn't just let the director create a character that JK didn't write!
I like the rest of the actors. And Tom Felton's diminished performance might have a lot more to do with the fact that he really doesn't get to act anymore. They've turned him into comic relief.

I would want Dumbledore to leave. He's really the only character in the movies that I wouldn't mind seeing switched out with another actor. I'd be quite happy actually if they found a new Dumbledore.

Wow, all of this Dumbledore Hate! Although I tend to agree. Dumbledore is actually supposed to be very tall, skinny, and spindly, with a long thin winding beard. Instead he is this humongous man is ridiculously large robes and silly hats (although I must confess I don't mind the silly hats.) Neither of the actors fit the description. I feel that Michael Gambon's voice and Richard Harris' facial expressions fit well, though. I can't believe that you guys don't like Gary Oldman as Sirius, though! Gary Oldman is a genius, as far as I am concerned, and I think he does Sirius really well. David Thewlis is the ideal Lupin, I think. Well, those are my two cents. If you don't believe me about Gary Oldman, then watch Leon the Professional or Sid And Nancy.

Is there nothing to be said for Michael Gambon?Does anyone truly believe that out of the hundreds of actors who could have played Dumbledore, they chose someone who was not right for the part?
As for him shouting at Harry, JKR would have put her foot down if it was completely out of character.

I don't personally like Gambon, but I don't know who else would play him. I haven't seen anything from Peter O'Toole, but he looks like he could play it. He might croak like Richard Harris though.
I can't believe anyone would want to get rid of Gary Oldman!! Even though he umm...you know...in book five, you never know what could happen in book 7!! And he's not too old! He's only 47. And that's around the age Sirius is isn't it? Maybe a couple of years off...
I don't want anyone to leave. Not even Tom Felton or the Dursleys or anyone. I just can't imagine anyone else playing the part!!

Personally I also have nothing agains Michael Gambon but he's wrong for the part. He isn't the Dumbledore we should have and that's why I wouldn't mind to see him go.
Alan Rickman should definitely stay! If he wouldn't fulfill the rol of Snape in the sixth movie, I wouldn't go to the cinema to see it. There's one Snape for me, and that's him (no one else).
Oh, there isn't an option to vote that

Than I'll vote to keep Mc Gonagall. Maggie Smith has done an amazing job in every HP movie so far.
Padfoot313
Jan 30 2006, 06:56 PM
For once I am glad to be a part of the majority, Michael Gambon needs to go, and Mcgonogall needs to stay. He is so bad for this role, I tried to accept him in PoA, and GoF I hated him. He is a great actor, but his portrayal of DD doesn't belong in the films. Although no one will ever replace Richard Harris's brilliance and portayal perfection, Michael Gambon was a very bad decision. I would have preferred to get a merely great second Harris, rather that a terrible Gambon.
- As for the others, Lupin stays (although I do wish for Oldman to stay as well, but if one had to leave, I would go with Oldman)
- The Trio should Stay
- Coltraine and Rickman should stay
- The Dursley's should stay

Dumbledore has GOT TO GO!!! I read somewhere that he never even read the books--how on earth can he hope to pull of Dumbledore's character?!? He is so nasty and snappish and cold--nothing like the old Dumbledore, who was perfect: warm and friendly and gentle and deep and thoughtful...
Michael Gambon's ruined everything!!

Omigosh completely random idea!! What if we all formed a petition and sent it to WB, saying that they need a new Dumbledore for HBP and Movie #7? I don't think they'd buy it, but it might be a movement, maybe knock some sense into them, like "What the heck were we thinking casting this guy? The public hates him!" He was horrible, and I completely agree with beauxbaton1000--the trophy room scene was what set me on edge the most. The funny thing was that it made my mum angry too! I swear, as we were sitting in the theater, I heard her growling!

I voted for the Dursleys to leave and James and Lily to stay because like a lot of other people I don't like the Dursleys and we don't get to see James and Lily a lot(obviously since they are dead). I noticed that the majority of the votes is for Dumbledore leave and McGonagall stay is that because of Michael Gambon playing Dumbledore or is it because you prefer McGonagall to Dumbledore?

Hmm. . .if they could find a better Dumbledore I would want Michael Gambon to leave. I'm not going to go through everything I dislike about his acting as Dumbledore because it was already said by many people before me. He's just too rough and not very Dumbledore-like at all. If he could completely change his acting around maybe it would be different. He should really read the books and learn all about Dumbledore before trying to act him.
Other than a Michael Gambon issue, I don't want anyone to leave.
The only thing is that Dudley is supposed to be blonde and I pictured him bigger.

Argh, you people just crushed my soul!

See my sig! I love Thewlis as Lupin, though I did have to warm to him when I first saw PoA. ("
That guy's playing my Lupin? *squint* It's gotta be the light!").
I'm going to cheer for the unpopular guy:
GAMBON. I think he can do it. Remember, it's the script that makes him Angry Albus, not him. I think he's talented enough to be kindly Dumbledore (though, from what I've recently read I think Gambon's portrayal might not be far off...

)
Everyone else I'm happy with, though I did vote Watson leave. She
looks like a Hermione, but...well, it's probably the script again...

Ooooohhhh that was so hard! Hagrid leave? Never! In the end I chose Sirius leave and Lupin stay although I found both characters wrongly cast. Film Lupin has grown on me a bit so I'd rather him stay. But Gary Oldman Just doesn't do it for me, thank goodness there's no Sirius in HBP.

Dumbledore (Micheal Gabbon I think his name is) from movie 3 and 4 leave and McGonagall (Maggie Smith) stay. I think in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th movies Dumbledore's performance was definitely wrong. I think Maggie Smith is like the epitome of what McGonagall should be though.
