Oh gosh, so close! You only have 2 wrong now. You fixed one you had messed up, so it is back to normal now. I think you fixed a few others. There is still one that you have yet to change that is still wrong. Achievement in Charming seems to be a bit of a problem however...Hermione was reading it at one point, and hitting Harry in the face with it as he quizzed her at another point. So just keep that one Hermione. That would mean, once you fix Achievements, that you would only have one wrong!

All right...Nick, you have four wrong. You would've only had 3 wrong if you had the right answer to Achievements, since I gave it to everyone. But keep trying! Don't forget to look through the books for each one you are uncertain on. (I did it that way...)
passerby
All right. dry.gif I'm back. Armed with answers that I hope aren't the same as my last ones.

Curses and Countercurses - harry
Dragon Breeding for Pleasure and Profit – Hagrid
The Adventures of Martin Miggs, the Mad Muggle –Ron
Prefects Who Gained Power –Percy
Handbook of Do-It-Yourself Broomcare – Harry
Home Life and Social Habits of British Muggles – Hermione
The Handbook of Hippogriff Psychology – Ron
Flying With the Cannons –Harry
Basic Hexes for the Busy and Vexed –Harry
Olde and Forgotten Bewitchments and Charms – I’m sticking with Hermione here.
Saucy Tricks for Tricky Sorts – and I’m sticking with Harry here.
Weird Wizarding Dilemmas And Their Solutions- I’ll switch to Hermione. It’s hard to get these triwizard tournament ones right! They looked at a lot of books!
Where There's A Wand There's a Way – Harry. . . maybe this is the one he slept on. . .
Asiatic Anti-venoms – I don’t think you’re going to include poor Neville at all, so I’ll switch this one to Harry!
Jinxes for the Jinxed – Dang, this one is in the RoR and I can’t remember who was reading it! Probably Hermione, as she seems like the type to pick up a random book
Achievement in Charming – Fine, fine. . .Hermione.
The Healer's Helpmate – This is the Molly one!
Confronting the Faceless – Hermione
Flesh-Eating Trees of the World – I still think it sounds Hagrid. . .but Hermione?
Quintessense: A Quest – Harry (though all sixth year charms students should be reading it.

And now I don't know who read what in which book for what reason. I'm so befuddled!
Just the Droobles
Right...right...right...ah, wait.
QUOTE
maybe this is the one he slept on. . .
No, he slept on Saucy Tricks for Tricky Sorts...lucky for you, he was also reading this book! tongue.gif

QUOTE
Flesh-Eating Trees of the World – I still think it sounds Hagrid. . .but Hermione?
This is the one that kept getting everyone befuddled. Some thought Neville, some thought Hagrid, but alas, it was Hermione. Way to go, Janet!

Well, I'm glad I finally found a question that was a bit of a challenge, though everyone's probably going to hope I never answer another question right again...
But Janet, you got it! Every one of them! I'm really proud! I actually went through all the books marking pages and blah blah blah...so great job!

You, Janet, are now faced with the task of posting your own N.E.W.T. level question! biggrin.gif

This will not live up to my previous poem, but it is a series of "who am I" questions or statements. Best of Luck. Avoid the Lexicon please. Most of these are ridiculously simple: sorry.

1.A special charm must be sold with me. Or a very effective pair of earplugs.
2.I could be driftwood for all you know.
3.I’m part manticore and fire-crab.
4.. If you hear me, you don’t need to buy a coffin; just an umbrella.
5.Woodlice and fairy eggs are favorite treats of mine . . . make sure you bring some with you if you want some wand wood from my tree.
6. I'm ten inches long and I enjoy a good snack of lettuce.
7.I would probably make someone a lot of money at a fair, for those who like to pay to hear how badly they’ve dressed. . .or worse.
8.I’m electric blue . . .which is a much better color than that drab old thing you’re wearing.
9.I have red jeweled eyes and am a protected species.
10.I’m furry, and I purr when I’m happy. But please don’t get me near a cat!

And a bonus: Nessie is one of my kind.
felix_felicis_444
Oh, man! I think I lost my copy of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them! I have been searching for it for weeks, but I just tore down all of the books on my bookshelf and could not find it! sad.gif Perhaps it is in my little brother's room...I do not knwo why it would be there, but who knows...

Anyway, without Fantastic Beasts, I am really helpless unsure.gif . My memory of creatures and such from the books is not so spiffy. I can only think of two...which i am not even sure are correct:

1. Mandrakes? Aren't those the ones from herbology class that scream incredibly loudly when you pull them out of the soil?

7. Peeves? He is definitely Mr. Insulting, and I can definitely invision him making fun of peoples' clothing styles ("or worse") at a fair huh.gif

Sheesh...I am terrible!

*goes off to search for my copy of Fantastic Beasts

ohh... excellent idea!! Ok here i go:

1.A special charm must be sold with me. Or a very effective pair of earplugs.
is it a mandrake?
2.I could be driftwood for all you know.
bowtruckle?
3.I’m part manticore and fire-crab.
blastended sqrwets
4.. If you hear me, you don’t need to buy a coffin; just an umbrella.
merpeople
5.Woodlice and fairy eggs are favorite treats of mine . . . make sure you bring some with you if you want some wand wood from my tree.
oh i forget this one
6. I'm ten inches long and I enjoy a good snack of lettuce.

7.I would probably make someone a lot of money at a fair, for those who like to pay to hear how badly they’ve dressed. . .or worse.
Snape?? jk, is it Peeves?
8.I’m electric blue . . .which is a much better color than that drab old thing you’re wearing.
i'm guessing either a doxie or a pixie
9.I have red jeweled eyes and am a protected species.
a spider? only I don't think they are protected
10.I’m furry, and I purr when I’m happy. But please don’t get me near a cat!
is it a pigmy puff?( i think thats the name...)
Just the Droobles
Ooh, yay. I conveniently keep all eight of my HP books right here on my desk.

1.A special charm must be sold with me. Or a very effective pair of earplugs.
That would be the Fwooper. I love that name. Fwooper. happy.gif
2.I could be driftwood for all you know.
Dugbog, I think.
3.I’m part manticore and fire-crab.
The dreaded Blast-Ended Screwts, a creation of Hagrid's.
4.. If you hear me, you don’t need to buy a coffin; just an umbrella.
Hmm...an augurey?
5.Woodlice and fairy eggs are favorite treats of mine . . . make sure you bring some with you if you want some wand wood from my tree.
These are bowtruckles.
6. I'm ten inches long and I enjoy a good snack of lettuce.
flobberworm I think.
7.I would probably make someone a lot of money at a fair, for those who like to pay to hear how badly they’ve dressed. . .or worse.
jarvey is what came closest I suppose.
8.I’m electric blue . . .which is a much better color than that drab old thing you’re wearing.
Pixies. Devilish little blighters.
9.I have red jeweled eyes and am a protected species.

10.I’m furry, and I purr when I’m happy. But please don’t get me near a cat!
pygmy puff/puffskein?

And a bonus: Nessie is one of my kind.
Kelpie. smile.gif

Well, toadstool. I couldn't find one of them.
Bumblebee
Without books or the Lexicon, using just my erratic memory . . .
1.A special charm must be sold with me. Or a very effective pair of earplugs. Mandrake? Definitely earplugs, but I can't remember a charm.
2.I could be driftwood for all you know. ??
3.I’m part manticore and fire-crab. Blast-ended Skrewt. Hagrid was breeding them illegally.
4.. If you hear me, you don’t need to buy a coffin; just an umbrella. Merpeople? If you hear them you're under water. Stay under water too long without protection and you would need a coffin, though.
5.Woodlice and fairy eggs are favorite treats of mine . . . make sure you bring some with you if you want some wand wood from my tree. Bowtruckle.
6. I'm ten inches long and I enjoy a good snack of lettuce. Flobberworm.
7.I would probably make someone a lot of money at a fair, for those who like to pay to hear how badly they’ve dressed. . .or worse. A Jarvey? I don't think that Jarveys could be an asset to anybody at a fair though, except if people want to pay to hear somebody else getting insulted . . . the fun of that would be very quickly worn out, I think.
8.I’m electric blue . . .which is a much better color than that drab old thing you’re wearing. A Cornish Pixie is what comes to mind.
9.I have red jeweled eyes and am a protected species. ??
10.I’m furry, and I purr when I’m happy. But please don’t get me near a cat!
??

And a bonus: Nessie is one of my kind. A dragon?

passerby
Oh good, I'm glad that they weren't all too easy! So far, Aubrey is closest and only needs the missing one (#9). Think small. That's all the hint you're getting!

I had to laugh, annie, about jarveys not being an asset at a fair! I was thinking of those "professional insults" people. . .why people would pay someone to be insulted, I'll never know; but they are there! I figured a Jarvey would be easy money for those people.

10.I’m furry, and I purr when I’m happy. But please don’t get me near a cat! uhh, a pygmy puff or maybe a puffskein.

And a bonus: Nessie is one of my kind. A kelpie

Am I right??
Just the Droobles
Well, hmm...I'll keep all the rest of my answers, but put in ashwinder for number nine. I can't find any other animals that have red eyes unless I'm just skipping right over it. Which I probably am... rolleyes.gif Well, I hope I got a little closer...
passerby
Okay, Salazaar. . . you've got 1, 2, 4 and nine wrong.

Droobles. . . you're skipping right over it! I know you know this! Think small and fast! Very fast. . .does that help at all? There are several other hints I could give that would just give it away. . . (but if you guys know what my last fic was about (even the title will help you out), I'm sure you'll be able to cipher it!)

Best of luck still.
ginnyeff
number nine is a snidget. i didnt get a chance to answer the other questions, so i figured i'd help everyone out. haha. Passerby, I didn't get your clue until after i figured out it was a snidget.
Just the Droobles
Well dang it. It is a snidget. How did I miss that?? blink.gif Grr. Oh well. Don't think I would've had a question to post anyway. But at least I got nine out of ten, eh?
passerby
Yep, it is a snigdet indeed! Now, I'm totally confused as to who to announce winner! Ginnyeff got the difficult one. . .Aubrey did the best with all the others. Do you two want to duke it out? If so, can we take pictures? No? Oh, all right. Since Aubrey says she doesn't have a question. . . I'll give it to. . .ginnyeff?? Gah. . .decisions and I don't get along!

Good job everyone!
Just the Droobles
ginnyeff can go ahead and have it. I think it is so hard to find questions these days anyway. Hopefully she'll be able to think of a question for us. smile.gif

1. This famous Quidditch teams motto is, "Let us win, but if we cannot win, let us break a few heads."

2. This elfish creature, which originated in the Black Forest in Germany, attempts to lead small children away from their guardians for a nice meal.

3. Name two of the books Harry, Ron, and Hermione had searched for Nicholas Flamel in.

4. This magical creature resembles a rock when crouching and may be found lurking in your shadow.

5. Often mistaken for a hedgehog, this magical creature feels threatened by a generous offer of food.

6. This creature may appear to be a black cloak, you wouldn't want it sneaking into your room while you're sleeping, as it will suffocate you.

7. Name the man who survived an attack from said creature, what year it happened in, and the location.

that's all i've got, nothing too hard, i don't think.

pepperimp, you got it. you're up.

give us a hard one, eh?
biggrin.gif
Pixymajik
Guys I know that it's sometimes hard in these sort of thread and things are a LITTLE more lenient here, but just a reminder that one liners (which is anything less than 2 FULL lines) isn't allowed.

thanks wink.gif
pepperimp
Okay folks. Here it is. Have fun trivializing. Oh, and to make it even more fun, no using the lexicon or other Internet resources.

1. In SS/PS, what was the trio’s last exam?
2. In CoS, what did Neville vanish after finding out about end-of-year exams?
3. What was in the paddling pool in the DADA exam in third year?
4. Which Hufflepuff and which Ravenclaw also got beards from crossing the age-line?
5. Which student should technically not have been in Hogsmeade for the first DA meeting?
6. “Oh come and stir my cauldron, and if you do it right, I’ll boil you up some hot strong love to keep you warm tonight.” Name the title and the singer.
7. What do all of these questions have in common other than coming from the Harry Potter series?
karsh05
1. History of Magic
2. Hm...wasn't it his desk? yeah lets go with desk
3. grindylow
4. Mr. Summers from Hufflepuff and Miss Fawcett from Ravenclaw
5. Neville because he got a lifetime ban in POA from leaving the passwords lying around.
6. Celestina Warbeck (SP??)
7. Er...honesty I have no Idea! I see that #1 is from book 1, #2 is from book 2, ect. however, i dont believe that is really a similarity wink.gif I dont know!
Amyrat151
2. It was the leg of his desk, that I know for sure.
Hermione_Resilda
1. History of Magic
2. Desk leg
3. Grindillow
4. Summers, Fawckett
5. Dennis Creevry since in GoF, he was in his first year. In OotP, he would've been in his second.
6. Celestina Warbeck
7. They're asking for names?
passerby
Hey, Amyrat151. I know that you know this rule, since you've been here for a while now, but please try to remember, as Pixy has stated just recently above, that one-liners and very short posts are prohibited in th forums! I know it's really hard here in these quiz-type threads to stick to that sometimes, but please try your best to elaborate a little more. Thanks!

Alas, I am exempting myself from being allowed to answer this particular trivia duelling as I helped pepper come up with them! Joy of visiting a friend who also likes HP!!
pepperimp
So far it looks like Hermione_Resilda is in the lead. We still need the title of the song for number 6. Also, here's a little hint for number 7: Go back to the source, people! You're off to a great start!
Just the Droobles
Well, I know the answer to number six, it being "A cauldron full of hot, strong love," but I can't seem to figure out the similarities.

1. History of Magic
2. Desk leg
3. Grindillow
4. Summers, Fawckett
5. Dennis Creevry since in GoF, he was in his first year. In OotP, he would've been in his second.
6. Celestina Warbeck
7. They're asking for names?
(these are from Resilda's post, I'm not stealing them, just trying to figure out number 7)

Well, they are all in order for the books. Question one=book one. Question 2= book 2. And so on and so forth. Maybe they are all...really annoying? History of Magic is annoyingly boring, A desk leg's disappearance would be annoying, two people trying to croos the age line is annoying...Dennis is annoying, and Celetina is annoying. Ok, I'll stop, I'm just embarrassing myself... rolleyes.gif
Ginevra_Molly
1. In SS/PS, what was the trio’s last exam? history of magic

6. “Oh come and stir my cauldron, and if you do it right, I’ll boil you up some hot strong love to keep you warm tonight.” Name the title and the singer. celestina warbeck. song: a cauldron full of hot strong love

7. What do all of these questions have in common other than coming from the Harry Potter series?
they each come from one of the books so far in the series...heehee oops sorry droobles...didnt realise you hd already got it! well i agree with you anyway

pepperimp
Well done, Ginevra and Droobles! As for number seven, when you go to the source of the answers, look to see what the sources have in common. You're halfway there in finding that all the questions come from the books so far. Look a little further, and I'm sure you'll have it! biggrin.gif
Just the Droobles
They all come from chapter sixteen of each book. That would be the answer to number seven. Now I have to talk a bit more so my post won't be too short because that is against the rules even in these lovely trivia threads that I do like very much. smile.gif
pepperimp
You got it, Droobles! Way to go! Bring on your trivia questions. smile.gif You probably had plenty of time to compose your questions while waiting for me to check in, so I look forward to reading them soon!
Lizzy_Radcliffe
OOOh, I've got one. I hope it isn't too easy...

In what year was Harry going to go to Hogwarts for his first school year?

here's another:
what was James Potter doodling on the corner of his O.W.L after he finished?
Bumblebee
In what year was Harry going to go to Hogwarts for his first school year?
It was 1991. The key to the Harry Potter timeline is Sir Nicholas de Mimsey-Porpington's 500th Deathday party in CoS. This places Harry's second year in 1992, and his first year in 1991.

What was James Potter doodling on the corner of his O.W.L. paper?

It was a snitch, I think.

Just the Droobles
Hi Lizzy_Radcliffe!

The rules of the Trivia Duelling were set down a long time ago. The only people that are allowed to post questions are the people who answered the last question correctly. Coincidentally, that last person was me. I don't have a question yet, but it will be up as soon as I can get it up. So, unfortunately, even though Bumblebee got your questions correct, it will not count because you were not next. If you'd like, you can wait for my question and post yours once you successfully answer. smile.gif

Welcome to Trivia Duelling, by the way! If you have any questions, feel free to PM me. smile.gif
Bumblebee
Oops, sorry Droobs, I hadn't noticed that the question was out of turn. Actually I 'm glad, because that absolves me of having to come up with some trivia myself! Go ahead, and take as long as you like.
Just the Droobles
It's all good. smile.gif

I now have a question...a repeat more than likely. But it is too hard to think of any these days anyway.

Please name every present that Harry has received for Christmas to date. And the person who gave it to him. biggrin.gif

I also request for you not to use Lexicon or any other helpful HP sites. Books are allowed and should be very helpful. This should be easy, but I suppose it is a race for whoever gets them all first. Happy hunting!

**Oh, and also, could you put them in order? From SS/PS--HBP? It would be really helpful so I can check each from my own list. Thanks!

Hermione_Resilda
Haha, thanks! Don't worry, I always feel a *tad* silly when the first person who answered gets my question right. happy.gif
I like asking the series of questions, and the long ones, but that might be too hard for me to come up with, hehe.

Nice try Nick! I'm afraid that is not all of them. You're missing eight more members unless I'm mistaken (which I doubt 'cause I have a list, lol tongue.gif). But your answer was great for a first try at this. And a hint, you know all these characters, and some of them are related to Harry closer than most.. wink.gif

audreypotter123
okay well um

How many Educational Decrees did Umbridge put out and what were they?

Hope that is hard enough.
wanderer
*grabbing OotP* Yes it was Hard, but here it is xD.

There are 28 Educational Decrees of Umbridge's in the book, i hope/think...

but there were only 3 of them that were said in the book. I think...

24: No clubs/groups/societes/teams/organizations without the ugly toads permission
