They probably just wanted to add some excitement to it. Some people don't like viewing stuff in black-and-white. Having it in color adds more interest. And as for the cage or whatever --- well, they can change stuff.

OK......but I dont think so.
Because If we read Novel, we imagin as what's written in that and we dont have any porblem with that, FOr example in CHamber of Secret movie ,the Tom Riddle's memory was Black and white ,that was accepted well by audience. So, why not in GoF??
Agent0042
Well, it may have to do with that the movie has a different director. He may have decided that he wanted it to be in color, whereas the previous one was fine with black-and-white.
shining star
I know director likes that that's why he is doing all these changes.
They haven't shown other memories .....a very imortant memory of Barty Crouch jr., Bellatrix Lestrange....are they showing that in movie?/ I haven't heard any clue to them! huh.gif
Agent0042
The pensieve scenes were all combined into I think one or two. Barty Crouch Jr. --- yes, but changed. Lestrange --- I don't recall so.

I just read most of the posts here and feel so much better about feeling disapointed with the movie-- and grateful for people pointing out the good stuff. Thanks everyone. I feel like I want to redo the movie myself-- I have a hard time accepting all the changes and omissions. I think people who haven't read the books will enjoy the movie more.

One thing that I don't think anyone mentioned is that Hogwarts seemed very dark this time around-- physically dark like a dark dreary castle-- when it should have been more festive and brilliant for the guests. It actually seemed to me like a completely different set. The Great Hall looked really different to me-- as well as the Gryfindor common room and even Dumbledore's office. Does anyone know if they've used the same set?

Now I know others have mentioned this but I would like to agree again-- Michael Gambon's portrayal of DD was so off character. He would NEVER slam Harry against a wall-- remember when he ask's Umbridge not to man-handle his students when she was trying to shake Marietta into telling about the DA? I so miss the old DD (Richard Harris). He really fit the character much better.

Oh and this is random and maybe not for this board, but www.beliefnet.com has a cool "What Harry Potter character are you" quiz that I think gives an interesting description of character types--including DD.

Agent 0042, did you see that movie?? Are you trying to say, that they have shown Barty crouch jn. memory, but they didn't show Lestrange Bellatriix??

Marie, Welcome in this forum!
I am happy to see you have started with my thread.
YOu have written multiple points that you considered not good about GoF movie....I didn't see that movie yet. But I have seen trailors and clips and agree to you. PoA also was very dark. I have seen that scene of GoF in which champion selection ceremony was conducting, yes, that was too dark, and very small room ,doesn't seem to be that large hall of previous movies. And look at dumbledore, he was getting afread of fire of Goblet...... mad.gif mad.gif , I just hate that scene

To be honest I couldn't give two hoots whether it was in black or white or in colour so don't you think this is a bit of a waste of post. Its a memory, end of!

I don't see why they made the memory black & white in CoS. I don't recall it being so in the book.

The change in the Crouch-scene it was just another thing to make the movie more fanciable. About Bellatrix and Crouch Jr...well, lots of the movie was left out, so I wasn't surprised they compromised the Pensieve-scene.

I find the whole memory\pensieve-thing a bit strange in the books. Why could Harry hear what James, Sirius, Remus and Peter was talking about just because Snape was around?

Snape never heard what they were talking about, he just knew they were there, so how could his memory contain it? If this was possible, DD could retrieve his memory at any point in the Great Hall for instance and walk around in the hall listening in on what people are saying.

It's just another flaw which is bound to be in a story like this, but I couldn't help to notice it.

And why couldn't Harry's memory be used when he faced Voldemort? They could all have seen what happened.
Agent0042
shining star --- to answer you question --- yes I have seen it, I saw it the day it came out. I'm saying that yes, they showed Barty Crouch Jr. in that scene, but if they showed Bellatrix Lestrange, I don't remember it, and I'm pretty sure they didn't. I will watch more carefully though when I see it again, I'm planning to go again when it hits the cheap theaters. Or if anyone else can verify that she wasn't there?

P.S., some other things they cut ---

- Pretty much all actual quidditch play

- All time Harry spent at the Weasleys' house and associated "Mayhem at the Ministry" stuff

- That Rita is animagus

- That Hagrid and Maxime are half-giants

And a whole bunch of other stuff that hasn't been mentioned here yet and I can't think of immediately at the moment.

Of course, some of it will be on the DVD, but there'll still be a lot from the book left out.

i dont mind the colour but the whole scene really screwed me up. I did not like the cage and i did not like all the clutter.
I really really like what marei said. I was dissapointed with the great hall and the commen room. The great hall simply wasnt great. And every single set seemed way off.

Heyy.

I was deeply dissapointed with the Goblet of Fire movie, due to the fact, that unlike previous movies in the harry potter series, you couldn't find very many connections between the book and the movie. Seeing the movie was almost like reading a new book all on its own! Any[one] else have any comments on this?
For one I always try to make the connections and see the differences, and i had a total of 12 connections, whereas in the book "Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban" I made about a total of 92, keeping in mind how much shorter that book was!

Please respond soon

Just a quick note Agent0042

Read the book and it will tell you that all quiditch has been susspended for the year due to the triwizards tournamant. Otherwise i agree with [yo]u completely

Mod Edit: Minor netspeak. It doesn't take long to type out the entire word. Post has been edited.

I think that only showing one memory was awful in the movie. If they were going to show a memory, it should have been the last one with Barty Crouch Jr. The one they show is stupid and depicts Jr. as a crazy guy, when in the book he seems scared and pleading, and afraid of what was to come. It was really unlike the book.
Crazedd Redneckk
Yes i agree with Amortenia_149.

If they where to just have one clip of a hearing or what ever. Then I think that it should have been of Barty Couch Jr. It was very unlike the book and i was quite disapointed in how it was acted compared towards the novel. sleep.gif

I totally agree with the last two posts. But as far as the memories go, I don't really care either way if it's black and white or color. As long as you know that it's a memory that's all that matters. GoF was a great disappointment. It was so different from the book and there were so many unnessesarily long scenes and they changed so much. I found the movie to be quite dull.
