I always thought James would be a good name. I thought about the others, but I don't know. I did consider finding a black dog and naming him Sirius, though!

I think I'd probably give the name Belatrix! It's sounds pretty kool, and it kinda rolls off your tounge! Bellatrix, but if we were going 4 nameing some1 not 4 the name, but rather 4 the person, I'd pik Harry! He is really symbolic .. in my opnion!

Definately Harry because it is one of the few names that are quite popular these days. and i also like the name quite a lot too.
Or James for the same reason. you could call them Jamie for short which i think is a nice name too.

A son would be named James or Ron.

If I'd give my child a HP name it would probably be Sirius if it was a boy. There's something beautiful and interesting in that name
For a girl it would be... Lily I think, I always liked that name but it isn't really special. I already named one of my guineapigs after a hp charakter, his name is Gaffel (the dutch translation of Prongs).

If I was to have to a child, and he was a boy the name would probably either be James or Remus. If she was a girl, she'd probably be Lily or Andromena.

Remus. I thought the others either too normal, or too mean sounding. I'm sure the characters affected my choice tho. haha

Whoa, that's really weird! I was just thinking about this at school today! Anyways, I decided that if I ever have a baby girl, I will either name her Hermione or Emma, because I love both of those names! Though where I live, when she got older she would kill me for naming her Hermione, because nobody had even heard that name before HP, and it would be quite obvious that she was named after the character. Oh well!

I voted Bellatrix because I just think it sounds really cool
. I know some people wouldn't like it because she's evil
, but think about other evil character's names in these books:Lucius - Lucifer (guy who brought evil into the world)Narcissa - Narcissus (guy from Greek myth that was so obssesed with himself that he stared at his reflection at the lake so long he died)Severus - I think this name just sounds evil, like severThere are other ones but these are the most well known ones. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying anything against you if you want to name your kids these names, just a bit of history about where they came from

I'm Greek and our the traditions are severe. We have the habit to name our fisrt child(especially if it is a boy) after one of the parents of our husband. But I am determined to name my son Sirius, either my husband agrees or not! It was a vow I made while I was mourning his death. I want desperately to give him a second chance in life, through this pathetic way. If my partner cannot understand this need of mine,he won't love me enough!!And anyway, Sirius it's a lovely name..

Bellatrix... it's a cool name I think and I'll give her a nickname. It could be Trixie or Trix. Or I could give her Brix, sounds like a boy and when they asked her what her real name, she'll answer "Bellatrix." It's so cute... when people is wondering what's your real name and you have such weird/cool/unique nickname...

Wow .... my half-brother and half-sister-in-law just named their first child, a daughter. She was born this afternoon.
Her first name is Elenor (after Elenor of Acquitaine)
Her second name is .... Alba !!! (the female version of Albus)
Isn't that a weird coincidence! My name is Alba Bumblebee!

I think that the HP novels brougt back a couple of old fashion names that had been dying out. Let's face it, there just aren't that many young people named Harry or Hermione. Personally, I like both of these names now, but there was a time when I thought the name Harry was so fuddy-duddy. I have to say that I do like it now. I also like the name Hermione, now that I know how to pronounce it! And, I just love the nickname - 'Mione - for Hermione!

I like Lily for a girl and Siruis for a boy. They are both kind of unique because you only hear them in hp. I agree with Dumbledore's Widow on how J.K. bought back older names in her books.

Mmm..Bellatrix.
It's the most beautiful name of the ones I've seen above. And I like the fact that we can call this person "Bella", it's nice differently from most of other abreviations of names. This name's just special and not common.

but it would remind me too much of Bellatrix

lol

I f I were to name my child a name from HP it would be Lily or Ginny cos they are both beautiful names and I like them alot.Ginny would be the best cos the real character is kind and funny and I would want my child to have those type of traits.

I like Lily the most but it was only because of bellatrixes charictor that I didn't pick that instead. I couldn't name my daughter after a person like that. I also agree that Ginny is a nice name

I voted Draco, but I also love the name Bellatrix. If I had a girl I would name her Bellatrix and if I had a son i would name him Draco. Lol, I'm quite weird aren't I? Just a question, how do you say Bellatrix's name? Is it Bell-a-twa or Bell-a-trix. Hehe, either way I still like it.

For a boy - I'd say Sirius (and no not just because I fancy him

), I really like the idea that the Black family is named after stars/constellations - it just struck me as being really meaningful
I would have said James (because that is my dads name) but my dad shortened it to 'Jim' which doesn't really have the same appeal

(feels really guilty now)
For a Girl - Bellatrix, it sounds very nice (but also it has the star/constellation thing too) - yes, I think I may steal that idea

Just a question, how do you say Bellatrix's name?
I remember listening to my friends audio version of the book, I can't quite remember exactly how it was pronouned but it seemed to be said as a french-pronouned name (I think) - i remember thinking that I had been saying in my head completely wrong and that the way the reader was saying it sounded much nicer and it actually sounded like a very sensual name

i like that name. it doesn't really sound like a preppy name to me, and that's what i hate. Preppys.
got harry?
Jun 15 2006, 10:45 PM
My favorite character is Hermione, but I don't really like that name. So I picked Lily, which is a pretty name!! I also like Bellatrix, but I think a shortened version would be better, like Bella or Belle! Which means "beautiful" in some languages...not sure which though!

Oh and I remember on the Scholastic website there's a pronunctuation guide. It said it was pronounced "Bellatrix Le-STRAW-nge" so I guess you could say that is kind of French...

I would definitely have to say Seamus, because it's so Irish, like me!

I really like Harry, however, but who would be so cruel as to name their kid Harry right now? They'd be teased and everything. I have a cousin, and she's been named Hermione, and the first thing my parents said was "Oh, that poor girl." So, I would have to say Seamus.
(Lily's a really pretty name, but I don't plan to name my kids after flowers.)

i know what you mean...i have always loved the name "damien", but it too is often associated with the devil. as far as hp names that i like...well, i like most of them, but some of my favorites are: bellatrix, draco, nymphadora, severus, remus, sirius, and parvati. i have also always liked the name george.

I would definatly want to name my son Cedric. I just really like that one. I think Draco is cute, I think it's cute for cat, because if I named my son that, I'd be a bit too worried that he was going to turn out evil. James and Seamus are good too.

If i have a child the name from HP i would choose would either be Lily of Ginny. One, because i adore those too characters and two, because they are nice names. I prefer Lily compared to Ginny for a name but i prefer Ginny the character rather than Lily. If i have a choise i'd probably have two girls and called them those names if a had to. For a boys name i'd probably stick with Harry. The others are a bit weird to call your son that.

I would name my girl Lily. I have a lot of characters of stories and stuff named Lily, and it just reminds me of a flowers. So does Lola for some reason, which would definitely be one of my children's name. For boys I would pick Ron. Ron is just the awesomest character ever, and not that many people are named that in the states anymore. For a pet definetely Bellatrix. Now that is a cool name, but not for a person. Maybe Voldemort if it was a boy pet. There goes my dark side

Well, that's a tough one. First of all, I seriously doubt any of those names would go well with our last name. *lol*
But I am actually considering naming my daughter Olivia and then call her Lily - just because I love those names so much and I am into shorts, also.
Point is - my husband won't play along. Hehe.
Male names? Hm... You know, this is weird, but Rufus (Scrimgour) sounds cool. Hehe. And I love Felix (Felicis), of course, but I have a brother who's called that, so I wouldn't use it.
