I voted for other as I'm a die-hard fan of Rush. Not the trediest of bands I'll admit, but to keep going for over 30 years and still come up with the goods must stand for something.

Wow, that has to be the greatest mainstream list I've ever seen. If I were to look on itunes' top 100 song list, I'm sure all those bands would be on it.
So I voted other and by my avatar, you could guess my band is Live. They are just amazing, please listen to some of their songs if you haven't. However, their are so many other bands that I could've picked. Second would probably be the RX Bandits (a great ska band.)
I do agree with you though Slain; that Rush is a great band as well. Their drummer (his name escapes me) is definitely the greatest drummer of all time. His solo's in 2112 are incredible.

Whoot for R30 coming out on DVD! I don't think I'd vote Geddy Lee (bassist/singer for Rush for the poor saps that don't know what I'm blathering about right now) up for best voice, unfortunately. He's very much an acquired taste. The drummer's name is Neil Peart...I have so much love for him.
I voted other because I don't really care for any of the listed bands. There are a lot of great voices out there, so it's pretty hard to pick just one. Bjork's good if you like Icelandic voices...they have such a weird purity. I can never describe what they sound like, they're so beautiful and enigmatic. Peter Gabriel's got a killer, killer voice. It's expressive, pure, and unique. Freddy Mercury, of course, had one of the very best voices in rock: maluable and powerful but still very controllable. Bruce Dickinson (from Iron Maiden, one of many frontmen) has a great voice for metal: powerful, fierce, but exciting. I'd second the vote for Kate Bush: very dramatic and powerful. Andy Partridge (from XTC) for pure uniqueness. I've never heard a voice like Andy's...it has a tone to it I've never heard and can't begin to describe. If you've ever heard "No Language In Our Lungs" you'd probably know what I was talking about. For sheer unqiueness again, I'd probably vote for Dicky Barret (from the Mighty Mighty Bosstones)...edgy, powerful, and, well, just a little weird. His voice leaps out and bites you. Jon Anderson (from Yes) has an amazing voice as well. He's sixty-one and I heard him two years ago in concert and his voice still is really pure. He's got a very unique voice as well; it glimmers and has a tone almost similar to Andy Partridge's, except higher and clearer. I'm going to quit now or I'll over take the forum.

I like the Bosstones as well, Dick does have a pretty unique voice, which is what makes them stand out mostly.
I like a lot of ska bands of which RX Bandits are among my favorites. Matt Embree's lyrics are superb and they are complemented by a great horn section. Their music flows very well and is always very powerful.
On Live, their best song (and my all-time favorite) has got to be "Lightning Crashes". A pure rock ballad that starts out very soft and works its way up to a loud and breath-taking finish.

I voted other becuase I absolutely HATE every single artist listed on there. None of them have any talent. Singers with real talent include:
Amy Lee (Evanescence): Very haunting voice, its amazing. You cant tell from anything off Fallen, which really isnt a very good album, but listen to her live, you'll be blown away.
Cristina Scabbia (Lacuna Coil): Beautiful voice, definitely has grown since they first started. She, too, sounds better live.
Tarja Turenen Ex-(Nightwish): Trained opera singer, her voice is incredible. If you think Christina Aguilera is good, wait until you hear Tarja. Unfortunately she got kicked out of Nightwish.
Other bands I like include AFI, Tristania (another extremely talented singer), Marilyn Manson, Nirvana, Led Zeppelin, and Arch Enemy.

My favourite singers would have to be, Kelly Clarkson, James Blunt, the singer of Commited Souls (I'm sure no one would have heard of them as they're our school band, the two singers are really good though) aaand I don't really have many favourite singers, I don't particularly like singers, I like bands more.

hmm, a pretty mainstreamed list u got there, names that u always listen to in radio. i'm not that mainstreamed.
BANDS THAT CHANGED MY MUSIC PERSPECTIVE
bands that opened my ears to rock
Linkin Park
opened my ears to metal
System of a Down
Metallica
opened my ears to heavy metal
Slipknot
Mudvayne
opened my ears to emo
My Chemical Romance
opened my ears to grunge rock
Nirvana
Soundgarden
Switchfoot
Lifehouse
THE BEST BANDS
My Chemical Romance (a year and i still listen to them. great emo/rock stuff. you just have to open your mind to them)
Nirvana (started listening to them this year. heard that Dan liked this band, so i gave it a try. it's pretty hard to get used to grunge, but when you do, it doesnt let go. Come As You Are and In Bloom are real great songs, together with Smells Like Teen Spirit) Cobain Lives
Radiohead (THis is WORLD CLASS. my current most favorite band. and of course, thanks to Nirvana for this. i couldnt get off my metal songs last year UNTIL Nirvana pulled me off from metal, then i listen to slower rock like this superband. more than 10 years already in the industry, but still rocks. mix of rock and ballad and blues)
GOOD BANDS
Pixies (another band i plucked out of Dan's faves. real good songs, could have been in my top 3, but i think Nirvana's better. Cobain rocks. It's a good thing that Pixies's back. Hope that they inject some sense to music these days)
Switchfoot (AGAIN, thanks to Nirvana. they released their latest album, Nothing is Sound and the single We Are One Tonight is gripping me right now. it could have been in the top 3, but Nirvana and Radiohead beats off competition.
Green Day (some ppl call this punk, but i think it's post-grunge. there's some similarity to their music with Nirvana's. NIRVANA again. but i didnt discover this band thru them. It's their singles from American Idiot that told me this is a great band. Although good, it cant beat off Nirvana and Radiohead from the top 3.
POTENTIAL BANDS
Fall Out Boy (punk indie. single Dance Dance is really good, but their album isnt the best. it's worth checking out)
Sigur Ros (now this is a new band i discovered thru Switchfoot's iTunes playlist. no vocals needed-they play wonderful music. so beautiful.)
Arcade Fire (grandiose pop/rock. for rock listeners this might sound boring, but i'm a rock listener too. i listen to mudvayne and slipknot even. but i find this album, Funeral, really refreshing. open your minds and give it a try)
okay, that's like a whole playlist of my iTunes. if you think u like the same genres as me (rock) then give these bands a try.
I voted Green Day, because punk's not dead, but there are other bands i like most like Rage against the machine

Sex pisto;s, Toy dolls, coldplay, R.E. M, alice in chains etc etc

I thought I was the only one that was going to say Franz Ferdinand, but then I saw Capricorn's post at the last minute! I also like Gorillaz, Queen, Beatles, the Doors, the Spinners, the Who....I'm not into all the band stuff nowadays....I think Green Day is fine, but I think they are just a fad. Everything is just a fad when you think about it though. Good Charlotte annoys me so bad...I am terribly sorry to those who have said they like them...I do not like country or rap. For some reason, I'm more into the 70s 80s music, a lot of it rock and what not. I liked a lot of the 90s music, but it really went downhill when you got closer to the 2000s. Where did all the talent go?
