I personally, would most prefer Chris Columbus to come back and do another Harry Potter film. I think he did the best job out of the three, not that Alfonso and Mike didn't make great movies, but I just think Chris did a better job with giving more of a Harry Potter feel to the movies.

P.S. Please be merciful to me mods if this is a duplicate, I searched but couldn't find one like it.

Yeah, I'd want Chris Columbus back 'cos he had far more feelings in them. They were not so much like action films. Compare example the first film to the fourth. I like the first one better.
Of course this is only my opinion, but in the fourth they hardly even spoke. I don't mean that the fourth film wasn't good... It just went through too fast. If you understand what I mean...

Great question. They were all so different and brought so many pros and cons to the films that it's strictly personal preference. But, it seems to me that the director's carry ALL the credit/discredit of the movies, and all the other people working on the scripts/scenes/effects are not even mentioned. I would have loved more dialogues and character developments in GoF, but I don't think Newell is to blame entirely. What about the actual script writers?

I loved PoA, and definitely loved the first two.
I also loved GoF, but with the ton of book portions missing, it's hard to compare to the first 3. Although, without a doubt, Newell had the toughest job of the 3 directors. Without a doubt.
joeshmo1985
Definitely Chris Columbus. He seemed to have a clearer grasp of the books and the intricacies of each character. I would peg him as the biggest "fan" of the books, making him the best man for the job in my mind.

I was very suspicious when I first heard that Alfonzo would be taking over the directing for "Prisoner of Azkaban", but everything that he did with the film was wonderful. I liked how much richer the wizarding world felt after they added the change with putting the actors in street clothes instead of their robes all the time and how much very discreet attention was payed to the little details in the film. It felt very real and very much just like a different version of our world, which was awesome. I loved the script changes too; I didn't mind things being dropped from the film at all because I felt like everything they left out was left out for a very good reason and anything that they added enriched the existing story to make it more cohesive and meaningful. It was just dark enough to be gripping but not so dark that it overtook the entirety of the film. The changes in the scoring helped dramatically as well. The peppy jazz-type music on the scenes with the Knight Bus and in Lupin's classroom while they were learning how to fight the boggart added a very different vibe to the movie and enfused it with so much life and uniqueness. It fit the film perfectly. It's going to remain my favorite probably even through the others ("Goblet", "Order", "Half-Blood" and mystery book 7).

Hard question unsure.gif

i liked PS and CoS but they were a bit childish. Kinda fairy-tale. Not that its bad wink.gif

i also liked Cuaron's PoA, but he let too much important stuff cut out.

Newell did a grat job with GoF. it must have been really difficult to make a 2,5 hours movie out of Jo's 750 page book. i think the first 30 minutes were a bit too rushed.

but overall, i guess its my favourite movie so far smile.gif
Freshprince
Easy to explain:

GoF best movie so Mike Newell best director smile.gif

Even i didn't like the way as Dumbledore act ...
KylePotter
I voted Chris Columbus because he really did seem to have a grasp about what harry potter was about. Yes, it was childish but they were children at the time. I didn't have much love for PoA because Cuaron seemed to change hogwarts into more of a gloom place. I mean the courtyard looked like a bomb went off. Newell Did have the hardest job and he did an excellant job. I mean come on ...he made a 734 pg book into a two and a half hour movie. All had a different view of Harry potter and i just enjoyed the first two the best.
secretkeeper
I voted for Chris Columbus because he did a fantasic job with the kids in their youth and that would be hard to do. He was the one that stayed true to the setting, like their outfits. They didn't wear jeans or sweat shirts or anything like that, they wore robes and ties and stuff like that. Nothing against the other directors but Chris did a great job. Too bad he said that he wasn't going to come back but he might change his mind. *crosses fingers*
mjane95
I chose Chris Columbus 'cause he was a fantastic director. laugh.gif
Not that the other two were bad. dry.gif
Potter1
Defienetly Chris Columbus, I really want him to direct the sixth or seventh. He brought such a magical feel to the movie, plus with John Williams music (esp Williams music in the first two movies). Cuaron I think messed up, Poa was a good movie, but he changed way too many things, DD and Flitwicks appearance, the scenary etc. Newell was second best, GOF was great, even with the cuts.

I believe Mike Newell is far the best! Perhaps because as a British he can comprehend better the aura of the book. I got furstrated with the 1st ,2d and especially with the 3rd movie.. Although I knew that a movie can't be exactly "faithfull" to the book, I couldn't supress this feeling of anger while watching each movie. But with G.o.F. it was completely different. I was tottaly focused an the plot. Even if I tried, I couldn't compare it to the book. Of course great parts were missing, there certainly were scenes changed and scenes added from nowhere but.. It made me cry and not because of my nerves! The 4th movie had the same effect the books have on me every time I read each of them. And it is a great achievement of the director to be able to cause the same feelings with his movie. Because the action is so quick that there is little time left for the facts to cause you the feelings the books bring on surface. Well Done Mike Newell!!!
*pretty in punk*
I picked Chris Columbus. He did better in the HP movies than other directors. My second choice though, would have been Mike Newell, he did better than the director who filmed PoA.
ScarletWoman
DEFINITELY, Chris Columbus. He made the movies as clear as possible to people who don't read Harry Potter and he tried to keep everything in. He kept things as close as he could to the plot where Alfonso Cuaron and Mike Newell had to switch things about and remove some stuff and cut out a lot of the important dialogue that explains the parts of the movie we need to know. The kids may not have been the best of actors, but they were believable and the characters were perfect. Besides, we had Richard Harris then.

R.I.P. Richard Harris.
lawks_fuster
hmm.. chris columbus and alfonso cuaron are good directors.. but as of now, i think i'll choose mike newell.. i was really satisfied with what he had done on gobelt of fire. given the fact that there are deleted scenes, i do love the way he directed the film. it was spectacular! laugh.gif

I have a feeling that my taste towards movies is definitely different from most of the people here.

I voted for Alfonso Cuaron, because I think PoA had the smoothest flow, not to mention the best acting from the three kids. I heard some people say that the third movie was too dark, but I think it had its fair share of light-hearted moments. As for the acting, I admit, Harry and Hagrid could've done better in their "crying scenes," but over all, I didn't feel like they over-acted (like Hermione and Dumbledore in GoF).

SS and CoS were too choppy. I couldn't believe how bad the editing was. blink.gif I literally cringed in my seat each time there was a scene change. For me, it was so blatant, as if there was no effort to smooth things over or even think of creative ways for the transition between scenes. *shrugs* I don't know... I tend to pay attention to those things. Hehe

Don't even get me started on GoF. O_o Sheesh! The first task with the dragon? Too exaggerated. Second task was okay. Third task was frankly boring. It's like they ran out of budget and decided to do away with the CG-monsters. Dumbledore? Too excitable. Hermione? Too dramatic. Krum, Fleur, and Cedric? Too... ignored. I mean, it's the tri-wizard tournament. The least they could've done for the other champions was to give them more lines. rolleyes.gif The only thing that I really loved about GoF was the exposure of the Weasley twins. wink.gif At least they kept me amused.

Oh well. Maybe I subconsciously prefer a gloomy Hogwarts. *shrugs* Who knows? LOL
priori_incantatem
I don't know about you, but I absolutly love the PoA movie. Alfonso Cuaron made the movie really good, so I think he's been the best director so far, by far. dry.gif
james pickles
I agree..I think Alfonso has been the best so far. In my opinion Mike has been the worst. He made the movie lack the magical feeling I had for the other. Chris was very good, I thought he was perfect for the first film, definately.
hermione rox
I liked all the movies, but the GOF was kinda ridiculous becuz they didnt include enough.. they need more stuff at hogwarts instead of all triwizard
bluezz
Wow, I'm surprised Alfonso came in last. It's hard to turn a book into a good movie, and I definitely think he did the best job. PoA wasn't all by the book, like the first two movies, where you knew exactly what was going to happen. And it wasn't like GoF, where so much was left out. PoA had the right balance of both the facts and creativity.
LosersLurgy
sleep.gif Chris Columbus is who I chose, and here is why-
Chris captured Hogwarts, and the magical places. The other directors worked harder on the plot rather than making the environment the magical place it is in the books. Think about it. He would have included the secret passages and secret tapastries, and all the things that make Hogwarts magical. smile.gif
james pickles
Yeah Chris has a tough job because he had to introduce and actually create the world of magic as is seen on film, and the others just had to carry on from that and just add abit of their personality if you will, Chris definately had the toughest deal but I still think Alfonso gave it the magic that made me get goosebumps. I think it is because Alfonso is an emotional director.
War Ich Du
i think that criss columbus did the best, and i wish alfonso had never step foot into the movie buissness i have hated all the movies he's made and he killed the third book for me, i mean come on he had harry cry in PoA, harry doesnt cry

i would like to see chris columbus come back for another movie and i would love to see M. Night Shyamalan direct one of the hp movies
Harry_Ginny777
i really like Alfonso Cuaron and how he made thast movie amazing. but then on the other hand i like chriss columbus becasue well he did the first 2 movies and the second one was awesome but my favorite director for the harry potter movies is... mike newell the most because of the 4th movie was the best so here they are

1st. Mike Newell
2nd. Alfonso Cuaron
3rd. Chris Columbus
HP number one Fan
Mike has directed a lot of my favourite films which is cool and I think he had a lot on his hands with directing the darkest Harry Potter movie yet but he pulled it off well. I think he could have improved the scene where harry looked into Dumbledores Pencieve and sees Barty Crouch Jr being convited. In the book Barty was almost in tears about being thrown into Azkaban but in the movie he was proud.
Tim_Burton_fan
Of all the movies that I liked was PoA ... but the director that I would like to see come back is Chris Columbus, since started the whole world of HP in movies, would be brilliant that he finish the world. I liked Alfonso's direction but I felt he left many loose ends, and I do not like Mike Newell's work, GoF image was to computerish.
Nawrehsuan
I would have to say Chris because the first two movies are probably the ones that are the closest to the books. He had a tough job because he had to create the wizarding world but he did that brilliantly. He introduced the stories really well and made it easier for Cauron and Newell to continue. I didn't really like the 3rd movie because i thought it was too jumpy and I didn't really like how it was directed. I didn't mind the 4th movie but a lot was left out from that too.
bookworm57
when chris columbus directed the first 2 he brought j.k. rowling's world to life. the movies were as close to the books as possible, and everything was great. then he leaves and it all falls apart:(
Waterlilly
I prefer Chris Columbus as the director because when he di the first two movies, they were almost exactly like the books. I don't mind them changing movies 3 and 4, but it would be nice to have Chris Columbus bck. I heard that he was offered a chance to direct HBP, but he would only do it if the trio that he cast would come back for it also. Keep fingers crossed. biggrin.gif
Radcliffelover91
~ i personally dont see how anyone could possibly think that the director of GoF was even remotly good seeing as how he totally and completly buchered it! ~ he cut out MOST of the main things except for a few ~ and the movie should have been 2 parts instead of one so that it could make even the slightest bit of sence to anyone who hasent read or seen the other books/movies! ~ anyways thats just my opinion ~

crookshankskitty
Hmmmm.. It's between Alfonso and Chris unsure.gif . They both did awsome jobs with the movies. They didn't leave a lot out like Mike did in the GoF.
HPFan792
I would love to see Chris Columbus come back.I think that he did a great job on SoS and CoS.I think that he would also do a great job on another hp movie.I think that he was the most faithful to the books out of all of the hp directors. So i would really love to see him come back and do another hp film!
caballo potro
Honestly i like all but my favourite is probably Chris Columbus he made a great job on the 1 and 2 he did not leave out important bits.

Alfonso Cuarón and Mike Newell added alot of humor but left out some bits mike left out alot but made it good by adding humor (i just love laughing laugh.gif )
Janet
Chris Colombus was definitely the best HP director! He stuck to the books the most. I mean, when I was watching the first and secong HP movies, I could directly relate the scenes to the books, and I directly felt the magic.
The worst was defintely Mike Newell! I hate how he included some of his personal experiences from his school into the movie. I hate how he deleted really important scenes from the book and added scenes that had nothing to do with the book! mad.gif
I was expecting a master piece!...............But the movie extremely dissapointed me! sad.gif
danluver501
well i must say that the PoA was my favorite. Im just woried that Cris Columbus will make to soft than what the book actually is. unsure.gif I just hope that it is going to be a great movie.
Harry Potter Fan
I think Chris Columbus did a great Job on on SS and COS. If he comes back to direct another Harry Potter Film it will be awesome
Spadice
mike added a much needed adult feel to the movies. being an older fan (19), i was a bit dissapointed with the first couple of movies because they were too much like childrens movies. i am aware that they are kids books, but its like they dumbed down the story so the kids would understand it. the majority of the people that will see the movie will have already read the books, so they know how dark they are. i think that mike did a great job of making the movies more mature and agreeable to the older audiences. i hope that they continue on in this fashion, and remain as faithful to the books as possible.
Loopy_Luna
I said Mike because first three films were great but as with the books GOF became more dark and this reflected in the movie.

OOTP and HBP also are darker than the first 3 books so I think it should continue with Mike and the more adult feel to the movies.
LupinFan88
I liked Chris Columbus. The movies, altough they lacked stuff, were very well put together. The feel of it was very warm, and magical. I feel that you can tell a differnce from SS and CS, PoA, and GoF. However, I dont know if Columbus would have made a decent HP 3 and 4 because of the Grim tone of each.
Spoiltdiva
I have loved all the movies! As with the books I love how they have aged, got darker and more intense! My fave director has to be Mike Newell though. I must admit, at the time, I was a bit disappointed with the asthetics of PoA in that things (like Hagrids hut and the whomping willow) had been moved. As Chris Columbus had created the world just as I had imagined it when reading the books. But each director has been right for the movie they have done, and other than do the books almost word for word (might be a tad long!) I wouldn't change any of them!
Amyrat151
I liked Alfonso the best, I love the way he brought the darkness out. Because HP is not for little kids, the plot of the whole thing starts off with a double murder.
Lost_Wizard

Chris Columbus to come back PLEASE!!!! we need you to save us from the other idiot directors. cool.gif
smartman299
i don't want any of them back, i would want someone like joss wheadon, or steven speilburg, but thats not going to happen. If i had to choose between them i would say cuaron, colombus followed the book word to word, and dont get me started about NEWELL.
maia_potter
I was between Chris Colombus and Mike Newell, but then I ended up choosing Chris. I guess it was because he made the movies very like the books, and I liked that. It would be cool if he can come back for the last movie, it will be a good closure.
Mike did an excellent work too. But I didn't like at all Alfonso Cuaron's work, I don't know, he left out so many things, I know that Mike did the same, but he cut out things that weren't relevant to the main plot, he cut subplots such as the SPEW which if they weren't in the movie, you could still understand perfectly well the storyline. On the other hand, Cuaron didn't explain a thing about the marauders, how they became animagus and all that, I think that if you didn't read the book before watching the movie you couldn't understand too much. I remember that I had to explain it all to my cousin because of all the things missing.
xD
Spencer Potter
I dont know, I mean I like what Mike did but he left out alot of stuff, Alfonso left out some stuff and the movie was a little boring.. Book was better. Chris Columbus was fantastic, I hope he comes back, I just dont like the way he had Harry's hair.
62442al_Man
Chris Columbus!

I love his work. He did well. He stuck closely to the books and did an excellent job of setting the stage for other directors, even if I wish he stayed...

There have been rumors circulateing about him returning for Half-Blood Prince or Book 7. I hope he does
trinigeeise 4 lyfe
Chris Columbus directed the best Harry Potter movies!! Mike Newell was good too with GoF but it wasn't as good as the Chamber of Secrets. They have been saying that Chris Columbus might come back to direct parts 6 and 7 and i hope he does.
needless_needing
I would like to have Chris Columbus to direct the movies again. I really don't like the bleak and gloomy style of the HP movie directed by Alfonso Cuaron and Mike Newell. Wish they have that old style of Hogwarts back. Bleak makes me sad. sad.gif
taintedlove-xx
I like the directer from POA the best ( really no clue how to spell his name , so I'm not going to try lol ) I think that he capurted POA perfectly smile.gif It was really well directed.
HarrysDead
Its hard to say who was the best really because they all did good things to the movies, but i think the 4th one was the best so yea I voted for that guy.
