I don't remember but I think I saw something in bk5 where it says that she is not really old.

I reckon giving that she was about 17 when she finished magic school, did she go to hogwarts? anf the fact that it would take at least 5 years to complete Auror training that she'd be between 21 and 25. Give or take a couple of years for other stuff.

May 26 2004, 02:45 AM
I think she could be 35.
Naz

from what TriadOfDarkness said i guess that she would only be like 28 or something.

Well, I suppose she left Hogwarts at...17? Then how long did McGonagall say it takes to complete Auror training? I guess she'd be in her mid/late 20s.

I'm aware that this might seem like a strange question, but it's kind of related to a fic that I'm writing and thought I'd see if anyone had any thoughts on this...
We know how old Ron, Gred & Forge and Percy are, but...
How old are Bill and Charlie?
Anyone any ideas? :?
Just thought I'd ask!

Wow, I looked all over the place... It never says. It says that Ginny remembers Bill being at Hogwarts, which would mean that his last year was no longer (and probably less) than twelve years before the final showdown with Riddle in the Chamber of Secrets. In that case, Bill would have been at Hogwarts with James and Lily, although several years younger...
Other than that... thats all I can find.

When Ron is in his first year of Hogwarts...
We can assume Ron close to, if not, 11, since most 1st years are. While Ron is in his first year, Percy is in his 5th, leading us to assume he is in the range of 15. Ginny, being one year under Ron, is most likely 10 years old at this time. Fred and George, being 2 years up on Ron, are near or are 13.
It gets harder when you move to Charile and Bill. At one point in time, I did some research, and discovered that Lily and James were their 6th year in 1977 (research done at the Lexicon). At which time, I in turn discovered that Bill was in his 3rd year at this time. If Bill approximately 13 at the time. The Lexicon aslo quote this about Percy: "He was probably born in the summer of 1977, so that he didn't turn 17 until he left Hogwarts." Therefor, Percy was born after Bill ended his 3rd year at Hogwarts, making them between 12 and 13 years apart. If Ginny was born in 1981 (as the Lexicon says), she was 4 during Bill's last year at Hogwarts, which is a reasonable age that she remembers things from (I remember some things from when I was that age *shrug*).
As for Charlie, that is a great deal of a mystery... all that's known is he's inbetween Bill and Percy. We also know that he is out of Hogwarts when Ron enters it
So... During Book 1...
Ginny - 10
Ron - 11
Fred and George - 13
Percy - 15
Charlie - Between 26 and 18 (I'd say 22 or so, to be safe, eh?)
Bill - 27 or 28
Give or take a year, either way... Note, my math could be wrong. This is just some quick research I've done...

thanks ceres - I didn't think I was going to get any answers at all, let alone one as thorough as that! Logic all sounds very reasonable anyway.
You've been very helpful anyway - ta for that!

Since she graduated from Hogwarts at age 17, then spent 3 years in Auror training, then qualified "a year ago", it adds up to about 21 or 22.

Ceres is the closeset. I did sort of the same thing but, I have Bill at 31 presently and Charlie is about 28. My math may be off though I never was that good at it.[/b]

I very much agree TonksIsMyHero that she is around the age of 21-22. She seemed quite young to me when I was reading OoTP

Tonks always seemed really young to me. Somehow, 28 stands out in my mind, but I picture to be much younger. Or maybe a 28 year old who looks 22 or something haha.

Jul 1 2004, 08:44 AM
Lets just say she's too old for Harry
I think she's near her young 20's because she is described in the book as young looking. could be her abilities, but if she passed Auror training then she's at least 22. maybe more? Depends?

Jul 1 2004, 04:08 PM
I think Tonks is 24. That age seems to stand out in my mind. I doubt she thirty+ because she just doen't seem that old.
Catch_22
Jul 1 2004, 04:37 PM
lol. But didnt somewhere where Tonks was first introduced there was something about her just graduating out of Auror schooling? *better re-read the book sometime soon* Maybe she's closer to 22,23,24 area.......
Magen
Jul 2 2004, 02:36 AM
Well I'd have to say she's about 22.
Because you graduate Hogwarts at 17 or 18.
Auror training is like 3 years.
And in book 5 she said that she just got out 2 years ago....
Catch_22
Jul 2 2004, 08:36 AM
I thought Auror training was 5 years? or am i mistaken? *shifty eyes* it happens ya know... human error...

Jul 4 2004, 11:17 PM
Well let's see, judging by the fact that she is an auror, let's say she graduated at 17 or 18, then auror training takes three years, that would make her 20 or 21, or maybe more. oops i forgot she's been an auror for 1 year. i guess she's around 22

Going by Ron's age in fifth year (15) these are the ages of the Weasley children.
Ginny is 14
Fred and George are 17
Percy is 19
Charlie is 21
Bill is 23.
There is a two year gap between the sons. Jo Rowling said it during htat live webchat a while ago.

IMO Auror training can't be more than 4 years, because everyone refers to Lily and James as Aurors (as opposed to trainee Aurors) and they died when they were 21.
I'd say Tonks is around 23. Can't wait to see her in the movie.

I've been reading the 4th book again, and it mentions Tonks helping Harry pack his bags to get to Sirius' house. Tonks mentions she's been out of Auror school for exactly a year. And assuming she left Hogwarts when she was 17, took (4 years as the post before me said she would be 21) 5 years for Auror training. I'm assuming she's near... 22.... or so. Has anyone read anything clearly about how long the training is?

Jul 7 2004, 06:19 PM
In the first book, I swear I remember Ron saying that Charlie had just left Hogwarts at the time, making him either 17 or 18 in book one.
As to Bill... I'm just going with the flow. I like the idea of him being at Hogwarts at the same time as James and Lily though! That would be awesome because that makes one more link to Harry's parents, even though it's probably a weak link.
that would be interesting!! that would be neat if he knew harry's parents a little

Jul 8 2004, 05:26 PM
Did she say there were two year gaps? I've never heard that before...
But if there were, when Ron was a 1st year, Charlie would have been a 7th year, logically... and we know that's not true...
do you mean 5th book!? and no i havent read how long auror training is

Jul 10 2004, 03:33 PM
I've never really given it much thought.... I didn't think that Bill and Charlie were close to 30! My guess was early/mid twenties.

I assumed she was near 24...
Getting out of school when 17 or 18...
Auror training for 4 or 5 years...
And then being a year (or two) our of training...
Yea, 24 makes sense to me...

Jul 15 2004, 06:58 PM
yes that is a very logical explanation 24 is an ok age for tonks

Auror training is 3 years. I just finished re-reading the Career Advice chapter. *nods* Perhaps she's younger than that... Perhaps she was at Hogwarts when Harry was, then? He'd surely remember her, though...

Jul 17 2004, 06:02 AM
Well, let's think... she completed seven years of school... that's seventeen... and unless I'm very much mistaken it takes about five years to become a full Auror, and she just finished her training a year before OOtP, to that must make her around... 24 or 25 years old.

Is Harry the youngest one of th trio?
Hermione's birtday is in september, but is she older or younger than Harry then?
zyra123
Sep 17 2004, 03:23 PM
I read somewhere that Ron's birthday is somewhere in March. Harry's 31st July and Hermione is in September. So I guess that would make Hermione the youngest ...
Now that you've mention it, JKR never celebrate both of Ron's and Hermione's birthday, did she? She didn't even mention them...

Sep 17 2004, 07:46 PM
Perhaps JK had to push aside detailing Ron and Hermione's birthdays to make room for more pressing plot points. (Ron's birthdate is March 1, per the Lexicon.)
I don't think it's stupid, that is a rather harsh thing to say in general. It would be nice if she could have off handedly thrown in a mention about their birthdates, but it hasn't happened yet.
