Madam Rosmerta
Who is the female on the newly released Finnish version of the Half Blood Prince cover? Is it perhaps Voldemort's mother? It's really bugging me!
Nimbus
I think it's suppose to be Ginny. The hair look red to me and Ginny has a bigger role in this book, so I just assumed it was her. maybe not tho.
kats
Ya, I agree with Solorund. There were only 5 there : Ron, Hermione, Ginny, Luna and Neville. Hermione's next to Ron and since Luna is blond, it can only be Ginny.
Ghost
See, I'm a bit confused, I only saw three people on the cover. But as for the girl on it, I thought it was Fleur at first, then I relized she had red hair and just figured it was Ginny. But again, I only saw three people on the cover, and they were Harry, Dumbledore, and Ginny.
SeventhHorcrux
Is anybody here disturbed by how large the character's noses are on the cover? Just kidding. Ya the red headed girl is Ginny for sure.
felix_felicis_444
I'm all the way with Ghost....where are all of these people that you see on the cover? All I see is Dumbledore, Harry, and the redhead girl (presumably Ginny) in the background. Does anybody maybe know of a site or have a link where we may go to see the cover that you are seeing? Thanks!!

Heya felix_felicis_444,
when I said that they were 5 there, I didn't meant on the cover but fighting the D.E. so we can deduce it's ginny because Hermione is already next to Ron, Luna's blond and there's no other girl. And anyway I was talking about this cover.
felix_felicis_444
OOOOoooh, kats, that is the US Hardcover Addition, not the Finnish cover!

The Finnish cover that I was looking at was THIS, in which Harry (with the HBP's Potion Book) is next to Dumbledore, and there is the redhead girl in the background. That girl is the one who all this controversy is over, but I think it was agreed upon that it is Ginny.

I just cannot believe that the artist would put Ginny on the cover and not Hermione and Ron......strange....

Oooh..ok! lool
Yes, yes then it can only be Ginny (and if Ginny's already in the other version..). They're just fed-up of drawing Hermione and Ron laugh.gif just kidding..Er- mmm because for the 1st time she's really important in the story and for Harry it's more difficult to kiss a girl then to fight LV tongue.gif

Is it perhaps Voldemort's mother?

It can't be LV's mother coz she's ugly (she even made the love potion so LV's father would fall in love with her) and her hair is certainly not red. Oh and she not that elegant.

And thanks for the accuracy felix_felicis_444!
Madam Rosmerta
Well I thought that the person on the book looked quite ugly too, but I suppose its the (ahem) style of the artist.
It ruins the story by putting Ginny on the cover, it takes away the element of surprise. It also makes it look like she plays a more important role than say, Hermione or Ron.

It's true that it ruins the story but only if we know that she's Ginny and it's difficult to guess and we can't know what role she will play in the book even if there's her picture outside. And sometimes, in this book, she plays a more important role than Hr and R (in CoS she was a lil important too), especially at the end, she fights more than them etc...

I'm finnish, but I think too that the finnish version of book covers are, well, horrible. I much prefer the english version, or any other version at all. I think too that the books are better in english than finland. And they help me to upgrade my english as well. But I like to read the books to finnish too, 'cause I don't always understand fully what Rowling means, and it's good to get confirmation.
Remus_Lupin
I am 99.999999999999999% positive that it is Harry, Dumbledore and Madame Rosmerta on the front cover. They are not in school because the only time H&D were there was in DD office, Hogsmede and the cave. Madame Rosmerta works in Hogsmede and therefore would be there. She also played a significant part eg Giving Katie necklace, Poisoning Mead etc
She was under Malfoy's control and therefore did the things unwillingly. She also, I belive, on the cover has feathers in her hair and Ginny never does. ( Now I have Barry Mannilow in my head. Her name was Lola. She was a showgirl. With yellow feathers in her hair and a dress cut down to there)
HArry and Dumbledore also meet her in Hogsmede and therefore it is definatly her
Zeph
First of all, the cover was horrible ohmy.gif

I agree with Remus_Lupin that it is Rosmerta because of the setting. They are all outside and away from the school, looking at the Dark Mark, which really was the turning point in the book, for my part at least.

DD was dead when Ginny and Harry were together again, so I think it is reference to a specific scene, more accurately, in Hogsmeade when Rosmerta saw the Dark Mark.

hahaha... I was REALLY confused about what you all were talking about for a second there. heh. I thought we were talking about the american HBP cover... heh oops

but back to the topic!

Hahaha. No offense. But I really dont see the red headed girl on that cover as 'stuning' either tongue.gif

I presume its ginny though. it would make sense. I dont think its Rosmerta, because Rosmerta is a blonde, isnt she?

and yes, those are some HUGE noses..... I'm holding back a humerous comment right now tongue.gif

cheese puff?

Ok.. My opinions.. All Finnish covers suck!! Really.. Im a finn so I think I know it rolleyes.gif (Any other Finns here?) except marira?
I think it is madam Rosmerta, because it is from the scene where they can see the dark mark over the highest tower.. Or at least they hear about it.

Never said she was. Merope is just ugly. Ginny is not bad. The intention of the drawer was to make her look beautiful and elegant. She's not that nice yes (he didn't succeed), but being beautiful is really different from being elegant, and you saw in the book, Merope's everything but not elegant whereas Ginny is at least pretty. I don't think someone will ever draw Merope this way. What I said was based on the intention, whether he succeeded or not, this is something else.
SeventhHorcrux
it could easily be Madame Rosmerta actually. The only thing is, this drawing really wouldn't match her description. I think Madame Rosmerta is red-headed though, but I'm not sure. I don't really feel like looking in the books. But also, Madame Rosmerta is described as a busty and kind of thick (physically speaking) person. This really isn't how she is drawn. As far as it being Merope, I doubt it. This is just a random thought, but it kind of goes a little with the conversation. Do you kind of picture Merope to look like the girl from the movie, "The Grudge" (or just "Grudge" i don't remember)? I do.
Zeph
In PoA when we first meet her she is described as:
