In the past four films the scenery has changed 3 times. In the 1st two movies, the whomping willow was next to the castle and hagrids hut was a short distance away. Then the third movie, there's a giant bridge, hagrids hut is down a hill and's bigger, the whomping willow's on a hill, they put the hospital wing down the corridor of the clock tower, and the fat lady's portrait was moved to the stairs instead of down a corridor. Now in the fourth movie, they got rid of that little entrance place with the hog and the stairs (This is a bad description but here's a picture
http://veritaserum.com/galleries/displayim...lbum=1&pos=898) and made it into a courtyard, and they put the owlery a short distance from the castle, instead of in the castle. I personally liked Columbus's view, but what are your thoughts on all the changes?

the decision to change the layout nof the castle was due to the fact, that tay had moved to scotland and they wanted the environment to be more prat of it before

i thought the castle looked incredible
it was a bit different from the one in PoA and it kinda looks like the mixture of the PS/CoS Hogwarts and the PoA one.
one thing that struck me was the fact that the lake was so huge. i always imagined it being smaller. i dunno, maybe its just me

yeh i didnt think the lake would be that big and so full of marine creatures. i knew there were mermaids and a giant squid but i never really knew that there would be so much sea weed or things that look like the ocean more than a lake down there.

The layout of the castle in the first two films is as close as it got to what I imagined, when they changed the castle for PoA i was angry because you had to walk further in the game to get to Hagrid's hut

I also agree about what you lot said about the lake, I imagined it alot darker so Harry wouldn't see much until he reached the hostages

Hogwarts IS a magical school...I think it adds to the enchantment that the building themselves can change.

The Layout for POA was Not at all the rigth Hogwarts castle. The best by far is first 2 films. The GOF set was good for the 1st task, but that was not supposed too happen!!!!! they way overextended that scene!!!

the whole changing hogwarts thing annoyed me loads. i think it became far too complex during the 3rd film and after.

Yes, I agree, but it can really only move to a small extenct. Most of the discripions in the books are failry consistant. I like the idea of ity being magical and things moving around, but it has been way over done. But I guess that that is the only way for the directors to fit all the needs for each seperate movie.

In PoA, the new set REALLY bugged the heck out of me, but from watching all 3 of those movies so much, and then GoF, I think I've trained myself to not notice the background so much, and love the set for how it looks, not its comparison to the other sets they've used. I'll always prefer PS/SS to the others, that won't change, and of course it will always slightly irritate me every time I see something that most definitely doesn't belong, but I think I'm starting to learn to get past it.

in POA i was so shocked to see the hogwarts castle..it was so noticeably changed
i loved the one of PS/SS and COA(i think they were the same)then i thought that its OK to change the set once but again they changed it in GOF ..
in my opinion they shouldnt change the sets like this!

it influences viewers mind!!

Perhaps they did it in different places it also could be that they shot it from different angles and stuff. But I also did notice the change. Like how in SS the trio ran across the field to get to Hagrids' but in POA the walked down stairs. Also different directors liked to show different parts of Hogwarts, like GOF and POA were more scenery that was beautiful in my opinion.

I quess they can't help it really, moving places.
It doesn't bother me do much as long as it doesn't look totally different sceneary.
It's okay....

I disagree wth that cousin
I much perfer the layout of Hogwarts in films 1 & 2.
However, in the thrid film I like the bridge thing but otherwise I'd chose the layout in the 1st & 2nd film.

okay so the whole fact that Hogwarts has changed i guess is not that bad... it does add to the magic off the school in a way... but i still think it's annoying... but hey!! it could be worse... the directors could change the actors!! *gasp shock horror!*
lol but like Sabrina_Rose_Snape said....

i agree to a certain degree... i do like the bridge but i am not totally sure about it... i think it is a nice setting for scenes such as the Harry and Lupin scene....

The castle always looks amazing in the movies but the third movie was the one that bothered me. The Fat Lady's portrait was in the middle of a staircase landing, really. What was with that? And all the landscaoping is different. It really bothered me.
Last night I was reading the end of the third book which involves the Whoping Willow, the lake, Hagrid's hut and the forest. It was all really hard to picture with all the changes in the 4 movies plus my imagination. Harry and Hermione and Ron have to run to the Whomping Wilow but can't be seen from Hagrid's Hut, but, Hagrid's Hut is like right beside the Whomping Willow isn't it? In one of the movie's? I don't know for sure but I just didn't get it. And in the third movie to get to Hagrid's you have to like cross a bridge and like down this path, near the forest when you fianlly get there. And in the book, Hagrid has like all the Hyppogriff's in a corale but in the movie he just like pulls Buckbeak out of the forest. I really don't understand. It's honestly ridiculous.
Anyway, that's just my view's on the third really. The other 3 were amazing. I especially liked how you get a really good view of the grounds and especially the lake in the forth. Taht was was amazing aswell and I really hope the fifth is as good or hopefully, better.

what buggs me the most is how the harry potter movies are getting more dull and less colourful. when i first got prisoner of askaban DVD i thought there was somthing rong with my tv

because there was no colour in anyones faces.
movies 1 & 2 are perfect and seem more magical, like what happened to them candles in the great hall that floated up and down (by the way have we seen any ghosts at all in movies 3 and 4 exept when harrys sees is parents when his dueling voldy)
i really do think the movies are rubish now because there so boring and dull. my favorite movie is harry potter 1 cus just watch HP1 now then after that watch HP3 u will really notice the difference.....
WE NEED ARE OLD DIRECTED BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I think it looks great in all the movies, I agree that the layout between movies has changed but I still like them. I know most people disliked the third movie, but I think it was the most insightful and really good. The one I really disliked is the second one but because of the acting.
In general I think Hogwarts has been well portrayed and it has mostly fulfilled my expectations because I understand that every director has his own way of doing things and also every reader so not everyone's expectations can be fulfilled.

wow, i must've seen all the movies more than five times and never noticed anything... i must be so stupid and spaced. haha. but i i suppose the scenerary changes because it may be shot in different places. i did notice they changed it a lot sort of kind of? like the first and secod were the same, and then the third and fourth were i think? well, i don't notice much so yeah.

I completely know what you're saying. in the first two films Hagrids Hut is like 100 feet in front of the castle, but in the third you have to go across a bridge, down to what looks like "stone henge

" then down a rocky path to Hagrids. and the lake changes places all the time. It's so crazy. It looks like a completely different place each time.

I was thinking the exact same thing earlier this week! I mean why would you keep changing it? Is there a certain reason towards doing this? *sigh*

I guess the directors want to make us think a little more then we usually have to when watching movies.

Totally. And stupid it is.
Only the grounds in the first two movies did seem like something i imagined. I know it'll never look like we all pictured, but personally I think they come really close in those. It was simple and perfect. And why even change location in the first place, eh?

The grounds for the first two movies were much more like what I imagined too! The set for the 3rd movie looked more like somthing from a Tim Burton movie than Hogwarts grounds to me (and I love Tim Burton but it's true). I wish they had just stuck with the orignal set and location. I know that films don't have to shot were they take place for them to make sence but it really would have made more sence to me if they had stayed where they started.

I pretty much agree with the original poster. I loved the way Columbus made the movies bright, yet still magical. Yates's movies are all over the place with no consistancy whatsoever. I liked the castle in the first two movies, but in the last 3 I just haven't figured out where anything is. He just keeps changing it!

I liked where the Gryffindor common room was in the first two films. It was so strange to see it just at the top of a staircase. I couldn't believe they changed it that drastically. I didn't and don't like it. It was much better in the first two films. (I liked the Fat Lady in the first two better too.

It's all so confusing, especially when you re- read books and see the movies, why couldn't they have kept the castle looking the same? I fully agree with Nasuada

I mean, it's not very private, any non- Gryffindor could hear the password I suppose and just the location was stupid! It didn't even look right, since when was the entrance at the top of the staircase in the books? Never! It's always been in the same place in the books.
But from the outside the physical features of the castle itself have always looked the asme to me or is that me being unobservant

It's never really bothered me all that much when they've changed the location of rooms (like if the DADA room is in a different location 5th year than 3rd year), but them moving the door to the common room as well as obvious changes like moving Hagrid's hut and the whomping willow really are distracting. And I don't buy into the excuse that it's a magic school and therefore things move around on their own.
