Kelly is very fast, and strong minded, but we generally aggree on where we are going and how fast. So we get on fine.
Montana is less *ahem* freindly with Kelly now. In fact, he nipped her little nose! It was bleeding! I was fuming...
HPgoldsnitch
Hey Kells bells! Glad to hear from ya. So, hows Montana working out? Poor Kelly! her poor nosy. lol I hope she is ok now. talk to you later!
HPgoldsnitch

P.S. sexi stan, your pony is really cute!!
Kells bells
Kellys nosey is healing fast laugh.gif !
I think she enjoyed the fuss I made of her, I felt sorry for her and, well, she will probally ask Montana to give her another nip for the carrots.
Montys doing realy well, he didn't jump in his last home, so wehen he first saw the jump he kinda said to us "What do you mean go on? There is a 2 inch twig in the way!" So we lead him over a few times and hes fine now. The saddles a pain though, we are definatley getting an English one. The western one is a pain to put on, really heavy, and I don't like it. I cant feel the horse. Its comfy, but I don't like it.

Hi!

This is just the place for me.
I've been riding since I was three and I'm still obsesed.
I do alot of hunting and cross country events with my horse "pheobe".
She's a 16"1 chestnut mare and I love her to bits! wub.gif

Does anyone else go hunting?

Lots of love.
lilly x
Kells bells
Have you got any pictures of Pheobe? I would love to hunt rolleyes.gif but I havn't got a horse trailer or anything to pull it with so its too hard. Its also supposed to be illegal, but you know, that just doubled membership. People thought "No way!" and joined the hunt. Quite amusing. So anyway, I would like to go hunting but unless the meet is realy near our field I can't.

Susie hug.gif

PS, It snowed today!!! Yippee! I know some of you are probally laughing at me and saying I've been 6ft under since October, because you might live in Canada or somewhere, but come on. I'm a little kid when it comes to snow. And in Britain, we don't get a lot. at all.
ginny_and_ harry_4ever
I love horses! My horse is an Arab cross Thoroughbred and is absolutly gorgeous! She's the gorgeous horse you've ever seen. Sure she's a little high strung and a bit tempermental but I love her anyway!

ginny and harry 4ever
lilly rose
Yeah I quess the membership did double. and we are trying are hardest to overturn the ban. Tony blaire doesn't know the slightest about hunting, so how can he ban it.

If you don't have a 4x4 trailer, you could always ask someone who hunts near you to pick you up. (thats what I do anyway)

I'm going to a Hunt Ball this saturday and I can't wait!!!!!!

luv lilly xxx tongue.gif
HPgoldsnitch
Hey lilly rose,
Do you have any pics of Pheobe? So you hunt? I assume that means fox hunt?? Thats cool, I hunted a couple of times last year. It was really fun. My horse loved it. Such a nice change of pace from the hunter/jumper world.
Thegirlwholived
I like the talking horse Bree in the NArnia series no.2 The Horse and the boy. I wish I knew a talking horse!
sloppyjoe
I play polo quit seriously so I have several Polo ponies.
Mrs. Radcliffe
I have a friend who absolutely loves horses. She is a great rider and she recently won a national competion and is now the No. 1 rider in the whole of South Africa. You would really like her Kells Bells! It's so interesting all the things she has told me about how to rida, different horses and some of the competitions. I'll try to get a foto of the horse she is riding at the moment and if it's possible I'll post it here. Cool?
ginny_and_ harry_4ever
Me and Proud Luck or Lucky for short (my horse that I descibed several posts up) are a great team! We had a Gymkhana at the pony club a few weeks back and it was super! We managed to earn a 2nd place and a 1st place. Also we compete in hunting and cross country but not Dressage...
lilly rose
Wow! so do I!
I've never been keen on dressage, but I live for hunting and crosscountry.
Do u do any showjumping? What hunt do u hunt with??

lilly rose

I used to live in Georgia, and my family had 4 horses, we each had our own. My horse was a black Tennessee Walker named Shadow. I never did any competitions, and neither did any of my family, we just rode around for fun, as we had alot of land (27 acres) Then we moved here, to Virginia, and I had to give her up. :[ I miss our horses alot.
Kells bells
Is anyone that keen on dressage?
I see their point and all, its essential and you can't jump if you havn't got the flatwork but its so dull!!
Our family kind of know I would go nuts if we had to leave Kells behind if we moved.
Actually, we were going to rent this house out that had a field behind it and was completely perfect for us!! But the owners rented it out to someone else instead which sucked.
HPgoldsnitch
I've watched dressage. I taught my old pony some dressage. But I find it SO dull as well. The only stuff I like to watch is the ones with music. That would make me sad as well to have to move and leave my horses behind. But I have to sell my horse now, i am so sad!
Kells bells
You have to sell your horse! Oh my gosh!
May I extend my greatist sympathies to you in this troubled time!
Why are you selling? I'm rather indignant on your behalf.
HPgoldsnitch
Hey everyone!
I don't think i have posted in a while. how are you all doing? Ya, I have to sell my horse cuz it is just getting so darn expensive and I want to switch to jumpers instead of hunters. they get kinda boring after a while...

Hey Kells, hows Montana doing? I hope he is working out for you.
lilly rose
hey, great news.
i'm getting a new horse!
its won events and everything, I can't believe it.
but this means that all my freee time will b spent wit the horse (not that it bothers me!)

I went to the Welsh Festival of the Horse today! It was very fun - there were stunt riders - although I have riden a stunt horse and done some stunts on it before so it was slightly old for me. Why is it (or is it just me?) that you can only see a stunt display once then the next time it feels old? Thats just what its like with me. The first time I was like "WOW! ohmy.gif He is going under the belly of his horse, he is standing on the back of three horses, going over jumps! Who does this guy's life insurance?"
The second time I was like "Been there, done that, got the T-shirt."
There was Elvis impersonators all dressed up which was hilarious. They did dressage to music. There were mounted games too - wich was funny although one team were losing so badly, we so wanted to just give them the washing up bottle that they were supposed to be picking up instead of seeing them struggle while evryone else finnished.
My dad and I have desided to have a go at polocrosse too - it looks pretty fun and exiting! Kelly would be good at it, although I don't think Montana would be. But its not like we are going to be a proffessional team or anything, is it?!

Lilly Rose - Wow! New horse! Awesome! Make sure you tell us ALL about him/her! Like, wether it prefers carrots or apples kind of all. I like to hear endless pointless horsey stories almost as much as I like telling them! By the way, Kelly likes Carrots best.
lilly rose
WOW! i'd of loved to be there. i've never seen a stunt show on horses before.

My new horse is called Rags and shes an ex racing horse, shes done eventing, showing jumping at intermidiate level, dressage and tetrathlon crosscountry championships in the open class!
cause I didn't buy her, she on loan for 18 months.
shes a 16"1 bay thougherbred. Her racing name is ragtime the 6th.
i went to a pony club rally yesterday and I did some showjumping on her, she perfect for me and I will look forward to riding her in the future.
xxxx lily

p.s: she prefers POLO mints.
Essence of Division
Yes, I have 2 horses. One's an Arabian gelding, 19 years old and is 15.3 hands named Red (so original, had name when we bought him). Also Lord of the Dance, Lordy for short who is an Oldenburg gelding, 5 years old, and growing to above 16 hands! I do second level dressage on both horses (if you don't know what that is, search it on google, it is a type of horseback riding), and jump on Red. I have done cross country as well as hunter/jumper and dressage shows.
heart.gif Of course I love horses!!!!! I am crazy about them, and have been riding for 5 years, since I was 8, though was interested even before then. I LOVE HORSES!!!!!
Saylor laugh.gif
HPgoldsnitch
Do any of you do Pony Club? lily rose, it sounds like you do. Its pretty fun. I have never been to a ralley before though, but I was thinking about going this year except I have to sell my horse... sad.gif

Kells, that welsh thing sounds so cool! I think stunt riders are very brave. although, it would be cool to learn how to do that stuff. did you see the guy that stands on his horses and jumps through the flames? There's a dude in the USA, he's called the one armed bandit because well, obviously he has one arm. but he rides his horse around bareback without a bridle and by cracking his whip (You know the really long ones that they use in tai kwan do movies) and the horse does all this stuff. but anyway, he gets his horse up on a moving trailer with buffalo on it and the horse just stands there without spooking. then the guy cracks his whip and the horse goes around and jumps off the trailer. the whole show is amazing.

ok, that was a long story... lol

P.S. my horse likes carrots. he won't even touch apples. he didn't like carrots when i first got him either, but then he learned that they were good. sometimes he likes mints but not usually. does anyones horse like popcorn? I used to ride this one pony that ate popcorn and likes pepsi. it was funny

ok, i think i have talked enough so I am going to stop now

Poor Lucky is sick *cries* the vets been over but hasn't managed to cure her yet. I was hoping that it was a bad case of colic but now I have no idea what. Lucky's been isolated from the other horses and she's been looking so lonely, I hope she will get beter soon unsure.gif sad.gif
Misto
I've been riding since I was 8.
Never owned a horse and most likely will not at least until I finished university. I used to hang around the barn all day long for 6 years, taking care of the horses of a nice lady, going to shows with her as helping hand and so on. Since I moved I ride twice a week. Last year I had a terrific Budjonny gelding for half lease but *cough* the owners were not that awsome as the horse and after a year of fight I quit.
Now I give some kind of early morning workout to a school horse twice a week. Not that challanging but I'm still in sadlle and don't need to ride the greenies (I tried that - thanks, but I really need my neck!)
Kells bells
Ginny_and_harry_4eva - Oh no! Poor lucky! Whats up with her? I guess if even the vet is stumped you don't know. I remember (gosh I sound so old saying that) but there was a case of strangles at our livery yard. They all had to be osolated and we had to disinfect everything and put down disinfectant mats... it was crazy.

QUOTE

Not really surprised he only has one arm there...
But the stuff he does sounds incredible!
ginny_and_ harry_4ever
I"m soo happy!! Lucky is recovering slowly, but she's getting there. About a week ago she was getting worst and worst, the vet even told us that we might have to put her down but then she started getting better!! *Jumps up and down with joy* She's still isolated, just in case whatever she had spreads but on the other hand she's starting to look better. Go to go and feed her now...
Kells bells
Yay! I'm happy for you and Lucky too! It's so depressing when they're ill, espeically because I'm the one whose looking after it so I'm like
"Oh no! What did I do? What did I not do? Lets call the vet! No! The vet charges a fortune to just say 'I think she might be lame' when the horse has three legs! Lets ask evryone what to do! No! They might suggest box rest!" ect ect ect. Maybe I go a little overboard sometimes...

Well it's that time of year again and Kelly is getting fat as usual (Montana always was), they are moulting a crazy amount, they've got their rugs off and are prancing round the field completely naked! It was sunny so we went out for a hack along the lanes, and the horses were so funny, spooking dramatically at molehills.

Also - A little colt was born this morning down the road from us! He is so adorable! he took ages to get born though, we were going past that field every day saying "Has she popped the sprog yet...?" then looking in, and there would be the same little Welsh Pony in there just looking huge and pleased with the attention. Only this morning Dad drove past to fast so I didn't get a proper look. But we rode over on the horses later and he was there!

Anyways, bye for now! cool.gif

I used to have a horse named Rose. But since I lived in a busy place I had to leave it with my cousin in open area. I used to always visit her, but when my next visit came, my cousin told me he had to sell Rose to get better horses for people to bet on. Now my Rose is running in races, where she used to love just to relax and gallop when ever. sad.gif I haven't spoken to my cousin ever since..and it happened about 7 years ago. So Rose has probably passed on. eeek.gif
Allie
Oh... that's tough, bandgeek1o1. A horse that I've been riding for six or so years passed away in April, and it's... not a nice thing. I'm sorry to hear about Rose. eeek.gif

Yesterday I took a spill for the first time in four years. It was a stupid way to fall, too -- cantering around outdoors, horse tripped, suddenly I'm face-down in the grass. Riding in a field (as opposed to a dirt ring or whatever) is practically a prescription for me to come off. And it's always the horse tripping and me losing my balance, never an impressive story...

"Why are you limping around, Allie?"

"Oh, fell off a horse this morning."

"Wow, were you galloping or something?"

"No, I was walking and the horse tripped."

Why can't the answer be "yeah, I was jumping this massive 5' course... we were approaching the Swedish oxer at a full run and suddenly the horse spooked at this enormous flock of geese..." just for once?

Oh, and did anyone watch the Kentucky Derby over the weekend? I haven't really been following racing this year (used to, but over time I just sort of lost interest, aside from the big races), but at any rate, it was a great win -- much more decisive and expected than that Giacomo upset last year. I always have to re-read the chapter "A Boot on One Foot, a Toe Tag on the Other" from Seabiscuit to dissuade me from pursuing a career as a jockey after watching the Triple Crown...rolleyes.giftongue.gif

I guess that's because you don't really want to try how comfortable it is to fall into an oxer. Believe me, that's not an experience you need!
Kells bells
That reminds me of a friend of mine. She was trying to get on her horse via a mounting block. She jumped on too energetically and fell of the other side. She has had to have her hip replaced and tonnes of random stuff done. So she told me and a few other people who were there at the time to tell everyone who asked that her horse completely took off, was galloping around like a loony, jumped over the gate - masive leap! - and bucked and reared untill she just slipped after hanging on heroically. biggrin.gif It was quite funny because someone came up just afterwards and said 'Why are you on cruches then?' and we repeated the whole thing with plenty of gusto and embelishment - 'She was standing up on him! Honest...'
It was also funny because her horse, Flicker, is the most laid back and chilled horse who exists.
HPgoldsnitch
OK, I don't think that I have posted on this thread for a long time...

ginny_and_harry_4ever- I hope that your horse is on its way to recoving quickly. I think you said it was... thats really good. it is very nerve racking when even the vet is stumped.

Allie- Its amazing when you have stupid falls like that...lol Why can't it be that you fell off cantering up to a 5' swedish (those are fun, though i have never jumped a 5' one) It would make such a more interesting story...lol laugh.gif

I had to sell my horse...but at least I know that he is going to a good home. One thing though, ok. So he had his vet check and I thought it would be ok. well it wasn't... he has a chip in his hock, a flat spot on his stifle, his knee cap catches and he has severe navicular disease. none of this which i knew. i feel so bad for him. but his new owner is going to take care of him and help him get better. biggrin.gif that makes me happy.

what do you think is the funniest fall off a horse that you have ever had?
Allie
First of all, don't run off with the idea that I've ever jumped a 5' fence myself, HPgoldsnitch -- that's a 100% hypothetical situation! The highest I've ever jumped is probably around about 3', tops. I've been riding for nearly eleven years, but in a very laid-back way all the while... hence I remain a perpetual beginner. tongue.gif That being said, Misto has pretty much rid me of my desire for a highly glorified fall. I've fallen into a jump only once and it hurt like heck even though it was only a vertical (as you can probably tell, I have a very low pain threshold). An oxer wouldn't be good for me at all... way too many poles and standards to knock you in the head!

Funniest fall... I don't know if I would classify any of my falls as "funny," per se, but I've had some extremely stupid ones! I had another incident involving the horse tripping (while he was walking -- honestly, this was the most boring fall in the history of man) and I broke my arm that time... so of course I was taking the grief for the rest of the summer, what with people asking me why I had the cast and all. rolleyes.gif

My second fall was also pretty good. I was ten years old and jumping a little crossrail on a pony, and my dad was watching the lesson. Somehow I ended up in the dirt, don't even remember how, and I jumped back up so fast I took everyone by surprise. laugh.gif My parents got so nervous the first time I took a tumble that I was worried they'd be so alarmed they'd make me quit riding the second time, but I think I took impressing upon my dad that I wasn't hurt to the opposite extreme!

And then of course there was the infamous time when I was cantering around the ring and the horse stopped to eat grass so suddenly that I just went flying right over her head... yeah, I'm clumsy. You'd think a girl would learn to put her heels down at this point. wink.gif

All right, folks... now that I've given you enough blackmail stories to last you a lifetime, the rest of you guys had better spill! tongue.gif
Kells bells
falls...falls...OK
One time I was dragged, which sucked. I got all that rough sand dune grass in my face, so that wasn't funny.
Once Kelly jumped realy big over a fence, Once I ladned on my feet, then fell over. It was funny at the time. One minuite I was there, susspended in midair, the next I was standing on the floor. Then tripped.
Another time, Kelly kept on refusing to jump a fence. She just said to me "Susie, there is no way you are going to jump that." It took me 3 goes, and eventualy she jumped it. I fell off and landed on my head. Kelly just looked round and said "I told you so." before trotting off. Why is my pony cleverer than me?!
Once I slid of the front of a tiny pony. he jumped over a jump, then bucked. I sort of slid.
Once I got chucked into a fence, which was very painfull. It broke. I was boasting about the broken boards in that indoor school for ages. Everyone thought i was wearing a body protector, when I wasn't. So they were kind of "ouch!" when it happened, then "OWWW!" when they found out.
I fell of a shetland pony twise in a row. Those things are evil! Ignore the size - never get on one! Unless you're suicidal, which coincedentaly I am. biggrin.gif
I fell of a horse coz the saddle slipped, i don't know if that counts.
My friend has to win the prize though - she fell of, into the water jump at a xc show! It was so funny. She sort of slipped, was on the side of the horse, then got knocked into the water by the jump out! I was laughing so hard. She had concussion though, she was sort of giggling, then blacked out.
gosh, I'm trying to count the amount of falls I've had. I know I'm at least a proper rider though - theres that whole thing about You're not a proper rider untill you have fell of 8 times. I definately have. And i have the scars to prove it.
HPgoldsnitch
Nice Allie and Kells, those are definetly some entertaining falls. I have to agree with you on those shetland ponies, those things are EVIL! mad.gif lol

I can't really remember how many times I have fallen off, but I know it's been lots and lots and lots of times. I can only think of two times that I have fallen off that have been somewhat funny.

The first time was in one of the gymkannahs (sp?) we were having at the barn. I always ride bareback in them. Well, anyway, I was riding this little pony and we were going to do a cracker race. (that is where you gallop down to one end of the arena and eat 4 saltine crackers then you have to whistle. And let me tell you, saltine crackers make your mouth very very dry.) but anyway, I got kind of excited and kicked the pony to go. Well, he sort of got excited as well and took off bucking. Needless to say, I got bucked off. But I was ok. I got back on and continued. But it was like riding a bronco. lol laugh.gif

Another time was when I was riding this pony for someone and jumping it. Well, it was sort of a stubborn pony. I fell off of it twice in like five minutes. The first time I was cantering up to a jump and it stopped and i fell over its head. then it took off towards the road. The second time the same thing happened. You would have thought that I would have sat in my saddle a little more, but noooo... lol happy.gif there I go, right over it's head again.

oh well, I suppose falling off is part of riding. and becoming a good rider. I think that it would hurt the most to fall off in a cross country course because those jumps are HUGE BIG and SOLID. I don't think I would ever jump any cross country jump over three feet. especially if it was a jump that had water on the other side. I think I would rather go jump around a 5' show jumping course. Though, it would hurt a bit to fall off into one of those jumps too mind you. But cross country..ohh, ouch!! Kudos to all you xc riders. The only sc I do is at Pony club... lol Speaking of show jumping, did anyone watch the World Cup on TV? Yay Marcus Ehning! Can't wait for next years. Their going to be in Las Vegas.
Kells bells
XC isn't that bad! I have done a 3 ft round, my main problem is that I get lost though! It's quite funny, although incredibly embarasing. I sort of rode round randomly saying "Oh no, where am I? Help!" I always walked the course about 80 times after that.
When the horse knocks the jump in xc though it doesn't do anything whatsoever so you have to get it really wrong to have a bad accident. Although having said that, I was hoping to go to a xc competition one weekend, but there wasn't room in the horsebox. So a few of my friends went and in the pairs one guy's horse sumersaulted and killed him. I was very glad I hadn't gone then. What was quite scary is that my friend was going to buy that horse, and if she had, she would have riden him in that class in that competition. As it happened, the horse she bought instead broke her ankle. Sheesh, this post is full of doom and gloom! I'll have to say something happy now then - I know! I have a signed photograph of Marcus Ehning! Cool, eh? And I have a signed copy of Pippa Funnel's autobiography. I seem to have a lot of random signed stuff, don't I? biggrin.gif
HPgoldsnitch
I think cross country is fun, but sort of scary...
Yikes, that is scary Kells bells. A guy got killed? ohh... ohmy.gif
You have a signed autograph of marcus ehning? thats so cool. Where did you get it?
Misto
@Allie: I speak from experience - I did fall right into an oxer once. Or better my knee had a nice collision with the massive wooden wing that was part of it. Guess what is weaker blink.gif

But back to jumping anyway: Personally I don't mind if the fences are small. I always had coaches that wanted us to do small but technically difficult courses instead of rather easy ones with higher fences. To quote my former coach "Jumping a single big fence required only a good horse and a bit of guts but has nothing to do with jumping" I perfectly agree with him as I have seen too many kids overstraining themselves in the believe the could do the next higher class just because they managed to get over two higher fences in a row totally forgetting about the increased difficulty of the course.
Now that I finally have the chance to take jumping lessons again I am glad to have another coach who takes great emphasis in technically difficult courses rather than in high ones

Well a friend randomly gave it to me. That's not much of a story is it? I mean I was jumping against him in a huge show once and uh he said if you beat me I'll give you a signed photo of me, and obviously I beat him, so yeah... biggrin.gif tongue.gif

My grandfather owns a horse. He's always own a horse, no matter where we live. I like his new one. its pretty. it's like gray and its in its teens.

I LOVE horses although i'm to poor to own one or take lessons. I've been to a camp for one week and we learned to ride and take care of horses. I think horses are the birds who God decided that their wings should come off and the humans should have the grace to ride them and befriend the wingless birds. When they run it's like the natural bird is coming out of them and they are flying in their hearts and they truly believe that one day God will restore their wings and they could fly above the Earth and watch over the humans who've befriended them and have the same heart of a bird that they have.

I have a lot of dreams involving horses but I have no connections to horses in my life. I don’t own one, no one in my family does. I don’t ride them (my step-mom used to though when she was in her teens) although have always wanted to. In my dreams I ride them, only the two same horses though, one is white and the other is black but I never remember their names laugh.gif
Ladie Lily Potter
I like horses but I'm not at all fond of riding them! Haha. It's because in grade 8, I went horse back riding with my boyfriend who has two horses: Elle and Esmerelda and it bucked me off and my knee and hips both popped out a lot for like two weeks. It was very uncomfortable and painful. I had to miss my dance recital because of it. Haha. It really sucked. I haven't been on a horse since.
rebel_megz
We have like 20 horses. We do endurance riding, it's one of the toughest sports in the world. It's very fun, if you want to see my family's endurance site go here. It's really cool. We own pure arabs and cross arabs. What I think would be a really cool horse is a Gypsy Vanner. Those are beatiful!!
Nevilesmylife
I love riding horses, not that i ride or have one. I have been on a few horses before and it is so much fun. They are so big and beautiful.
Kaitlyn
I love to go horseback riding! I used to go a lot when I was little. Most of the school breaks we used to go to my father's family farm in the country. It was beautiful and I loved racing to the pond or to the river on my horse. I would race anyone!

But last time I went was more than 5 years ago... I love horses, and I remember getting lost in the forest while picking fruits, and then my parents would have to come and get me either on the truck on horses to go back when everything was dark.

I love horses! They are very smart and beautiful animals, and their company is amazing!
cristipotter
Horses are amazing, they're the best animals ever! I used to own a horse, but he died years ago sleep.gif and so did my mom's and my sister's...horseback riding (jumping) is a family sport, but we haven't ridden in a very long time... I'm about to go back to it this February, so it will be amazing, go jumping again and everything...can't wait!

Horses are the best, when you fall down, they do what's possible for them to not step on you... and riding them is so much fun!!
Meredith Meadows
I LOVE Horses! ^^

They are the best animals on earth.

I own a cute, white shetland pony mare. Her name is princess.

Greets to all other horsefreaks!

Horses are the best. I've been reading horse books for ages mostly in the time when I was waiting for the next Harry Potter book to come out. Though this year, my mom said if I really wanted to do horseback riding I might be able to. I asked in October if I could. She's going to talk to my dad and maybe I'll be able to take lessons some time this new year.

I wish I had a horse. I've been trying for years to get my grandma to let my grandpa buy a horse and let me 'horse-sit' it when they go on vacay. No avail...yet.

Horses are my second favorite animal, my first being a wolf. Not quite sure why, probably because Dan Radcliffle loves them. Like I said probably.
