Not that it really matters but I've been really wondering about the other entrances to the school besides the vanishing cabinet...as far as i know there were two other hidden entrances, one being the tunnel that leads from the school to the cellar of a store in hogsmead, and the other leading to the shrieking shack, not sure if it's in hogwarts grounds or not. So if these entrances were here then why not use them instead of the cabinet...it seems that Wormtail would know about them and tell volde. someone enlighten me on this huh.gif

I don't know if Dumbledore or anyone else specifically says that all the entraces are protected, but I guess he knows most of the secret passageways in and out of the castle. He also got Lupin along with him, whom surely knows every passageway since he was one of the four creating the Maurader's Map.

All entrances are protected by Aurors and I guess magic also.

It does say that all the entances to the school are protected! even the secret ones. i assume that lupid told Dumbledore about the one that leads to the celler of honeydukes because when "all" the entrances where protected in the 3rd book harry could still get out of that one....but a thought just struck me...Dumbledore obviously knew about the shriking shack one has he made it for lupid but if he knew about it why wouldnt he have it protected but the dementors in the 3rd book like all the other entrances?

i think it said somewhere that all entrences were being guarded and were blocked. DD would haev known about the entrances so it would be easy for Malfoy to be caught. he probably had told other teachers about the entrences too. But im pretty sure they were all blocked.

Yeah, I think it said in the book that there were...hmm....i think seven different passageways to get into the castle. One was caved in, one had the Womping Willow outside it, the one that led to Honeydukes, and a few more. But I'm positive Dumbledore knew about them all, so he could watch them. I'm not entirely sure he didn't know about the Vanishing Cabinet one either....it seems to me like he was trying to make sure that Draco would succeed in getting the Death Eaters into the castle....like he was trying to give him a sporting chance or something. Maybe he knew that if Draco failed Voldemort would come after him. Well...not like he was going to help him or anything, but he wouldn't try and stop him either.... I dunno any thoughts?

Being as wise as he is I do believe that Dumbledore knew of all of the entrances into Hogwarts. But what I do not think is he did not know Draco was working for Voldy, therefore he would not have known that Draco knew of the Vanishing cabinet as well, and certainly Dumbledore did not know that Draco would have let the Death Eaters into Hogwarts by this entrance. Dumbledore, if he had known of draco's intentions from the get go he would have probaly tried to persuade Draco differently and talked to him about what he was doing, he would not have intentionally, if he had known allowed Draco to corner him that night in Tower and kill him.

I think there are 7 secret passage ways, one of which is blocked,
DD was very clever and I'm sure he knew of every single passage, and that all of them were being protected.
He thought that no one could possibly get into the castle who shouldn't.
Sadly, he was wrong and ti cost him his life sad.gif

As you guys have said, the entrances are probably protected. For example the honeydukes cellar probably is guarded by the owner and if Dumbledore had really thought it through then he would have used magic to seal them. I presume the Whomping Willow entrance was sealed after the PoA. If the entrances arent all guarded then maybe it would be a way for Voldemort to enter Hogwarts, if he needs to go there.

Honeydukes cellar is probably guarded by enchantments of some sort, and there is millions of wizards in Hogsmeade, well not millions, but dont you think they'd do something?

Yeah but remember, it was Malfoy leading the whole thing, so it would look to them like just a student sneaking back into school or whatever. And he probably snuck the Death Eaters in at night, when everyone was sleeping. He also had the help of the Imperiused Madame Rosmerta, who most likely had some considerable influence on the community.

Harry should know all of the secret entrances because he has Marauder's Map. But Dumbledore might not have known about some secret entrances and that some could be hidden from view by magic.

Well i was thinking about Wormtail not telling Voldermort about the passages.
Do you think it could be Wormtail trying to work of his debt to Harry?
Whereas not telling Voldermort he helps Harry and maybe that's how he is working of his debt.
