Hiya everyone! I know someone named 'Mooncresent'. First of all... Never, never, never would I name my child 'Mooncresent'. That's the bottome line, I'm afraid.
Then of course there are other horrible names like:
Letisha, Sheniqua, Shenaynay, Henrietta (Never!), Jockabo (And yes, someone somewhere in the world is named this...), Henry (In my opinion: Too bland), Bobby, Liquanda...
Trust me, the list goes on.

Those are just a few. I really like the idea of having this thread. It's very imaginative. I like to see what other people have to say and what names they don't really have a fondness of...

Good job!

I agree with you, harry4_LyF, Bob is just a bad name! I also do not like the name Raulph!
My dads middle name is Raulph and he hates it, and I don't blame him.
I also don't like:
Chad - it's a weird name
Paulina - Gross!
I can't think of any right now, but I know there's more

I do like the name Corby for a boy and Viena for a girl, though.

I know someone who actually named their poor kid Beowulf. One has to wonder what illicit drugs they were on when he was born...poor kid. His last name was even worse! But they couldn't help that, short of legally changing it.
Then there are Bruce Willis and Demi Moore's kids. Would you want to be a girl named "Scout?" Or, "Rumor?" Puh-leeze. Eeew.
There was an article I read last summer, when people in Houston were evacuating from the possible hurricane damage, and there was a little kid in that article named "Dageneral." Was his mother on crack?
OK, my own son's name is James, which I'll admit is bland, but it's vitually impossible to make fun of that name. lol

Names I wouldn't name my child:
Harry- No offence to Harry Potter, but I
really do not like this name!
Terry- It's way too common. And from my experientses, all Terys that
I have met we're jerks.
Lemmon- I used to know somebody named that. No offence to them, but I don't know why anyone would name their kid Lemmon! It doesn't make sense!
Pam (or Pamala)
Peggy
Jamie- it just is so bad in my opinion that I want to run away when I hear it!
And thats all I can think of for now!

My friend's name is Eden...for the Garden of Eden in the bible. I mean, okay, name them a biblical name like Eve, Rebecca, Rachel, but WHY the name of the GARDEN? It baffles me...oh! and her middle name is Rose. Rose isnt a bad name, but its a little joke with her family because Roses are found in gardens

Oh
miss know-it-all, I hope I didn't offend you! If yes, that wasn't my intention, I guess it's not that pleasant to find our name in this topic..
I thought that your name was in the list of names you dislike (I didn't notice that it was yours, I'm not that rude to put someone's name this way!). I'm really sorry, I'm going to edit that small part of my last post.
I wouldn't like to find mine here, but I don't think someone will ever put it because it's not common.
I dunno if it change something but your name isn't the worse, it's not really bad, but I don't like it..while theresa is horrible ^^ (ok hope no one is named theresa here)
I do agree with you guys that Pilot Inspector isn't a name!..poor boy!

Heh, I'm from Slovakia and we have pretty different names, but I wanted to say, I heard about one Slovak guy who was named Samuel, what we can say like Samo here and his second name was Vražda, what means murder. And when you put it togeher it makes SamoVražda which means suicide here! Not very pleasant to be called Suicide!

Dec 14 2005, 07:13 PM
heya lutsija (I like your nickname, it's original), maybe i'm weird but I don't see a problem with calling someone "suicide"..it's nice! lol

You would like to be named Suicide?

well... me not. but it's different here. there's no way to call someone Apple (jablko) it's more weird than if you're called like this in USA. (yes, my nick... would like to know how you read it, though

). Ya, I know it's a weird combination. But what does that change?
About your nickname I read it like we do in Spanish, or maybe you can tell me the right pronunciation?
And I think the word Suicide is really soft, you know, when you hear it, it's special

but with the french pronunciation it's disgusting

Hey Katz - my names Susie (well you spelt it Suzy but same name). Its not that bad. Suicide - ha ha I would love to call a kid that but wouldn't have the heart. I hate the name Paula - it just sounds like a guy. No offence to anyone. But here in Wales we have different names to other places like Angharad, which is a nice name , Blodwen, which is hilarious and Seren, which is pretty its Welsh for star. And we have different guys names but I can't spell any of them.

Haha this is a pretty weird topic...

Let's hope we don't offend someone too bad now, eh? Hm...I don't like the names:
*Agatha:It sounds like you're coughing or gagging as you say it.
*Angus: It's beef to me...
*Olga:
*Timothy: It doesn't sound good with a hick accent.
*Charles: It hurts my jaw...
*Mabel: Reminds me of syrup.
*Rainbow, Star, Sky...ect.: Eh...no...
*Barbara: I just don't like it.
*Ethal: Sounds like a drug.
*David: I've had too many people I didn't like named David.
*Shelby: Sounds like a mermaid's name.
*Dick:
*Constance, Patience, Charity...ect.: It's a little Amish sounding.
Well, I guess my childrens' possible names have been cut down significantly.

Lmao...Pheonix2Fire.

Why wouldn't you want to name your child Shenaynay?

SOAOFMCCCLS(spew2u), (what I weird nickname?

) OMG..Is it possible? I should stop writing names, hope you're not offended. Ok so from now on, I love all kind of names
Mmm..did I said something really bad about Suzy? Let me check..
Oh so no..it's ok. Well, I don't hate your name, but I think it's too girlish, childish, I mean we use to call dolls this way, I dunno how to explain it..in french they say "mimi".
BTW, you know what? When I first saw your avatar, I thought it was a cow..loool.
Aphie (I love your nickname; I would call someone aphrodite ^^ but actually I hate kids

), David can really be nice, especially with the italian pronunciation: you read it Davide; the "e" is pronounced like the "é" in french and the "a" pronounced as the french "a" not the english one.
Edit: No problem..I changed it in Aphie

Aphrodite--You do not like the name David?
Why not? In my school it is not EXTREMELY popular..there are only about 6-8 kids in the whole high school whith the name David!
If you want to start picking out overused names, go for Jason, Michael, Michelle, Amy/Aimee/Ammie/any other spelling, Jordan, Matthew (my brother's name), etc. David is not nearly as popular as those!
But whatever, you are entitled to your opinion, except David sounds like a good one to me!

Nah, kats and daviD the name sounds nice when you say it and it has a cool meaning, but I've known far too many people that have given that name a bad reputation. And daviD, it does not mean I like you any less because that's your name; you're not one of those 'Davids' I'm talking about.
Aw kats, my username is actually a bit vain(okay, very.

Can people really not figure out how to say your name, aphrodite? Kind of surprises me a bit. . .
Okay, this is a true story: my grandfather's name was
Delbert Cecil, bad enough as it is, but before I was born, my dad wanted to name the baby after his dad, who he never knew, and if I turned out to be a girl (which I did) he wanted to change it to
Delberta Cecilia. YIKES! I'm so thankful for my mother who wouldn't allow it! I have to settle for Janet Victoria.

A hard time?! I thought I had psychologically scarred you for life.
Yeah, I've had mythology lesson after lesson(even that reporter on Fox News with that name) and it's always said with '-dite' in one syllable. *Shudder* it's two 'di-te'.

But anyways, Alanna is my real name and I'm pretty content with how people say it...so it's cool.
Delberta?!

That's terrible! I very much agree, Janet is much prettier. I was almost named Hanley which was my mum's maiden name, but thankfully my dad intervened.

Nice (

) topic. Anyway, again, hope we don't offend anyone.
Well, the names that I don't really like are names like Rachel, Megan, Ashley (sorry Ash!), no matter how you spell them, but I just find it annoying that sooo many people have those names. I'm serious. In our school, there's at least 10 or 11 girls in
each grade that have those names.. I wouldn't name my child that because...well..I want his/her name to be unique..

Oh, my...I know someone named Shenaynay! Ugh, I hate her. Well, not that I've actually talked to her, but she's a snob and looks down on everyone...
Lol Aphie, pointdexter! Is there anyone with that name? I also don't like the names (again, no offense to anyone here) Miranda, Alexia.. (eh, that's because I hate this one girl at my school named that..), Bob.. (

), um, most names that are a bit...snobbish..I guess. Like Shenaynay, Sweetashia (not sure if that's how you spell it), Ashia..just all these weird names with a ' in them somewhere..
Okay, now let's all make fun of the name Resilda!
Suicide...?

That is so funny, just because with the exception of Matthew, I know maybe ONE of each of those people- myself being a Michelle included!!!
I will never name my child after a food, including fruit of vegetables.
I will never name my child after an emotion or something close to it- Happy, Joyce, etc
I will never name my child Andrew, as it is my brother's name and wouldn't he get a fat head about it... actually I will never name a child after anyone in my family.
I will never name my child Stephanie. It's my best friend's name and I couldn't handle having a child with the same name.
I will never name a child Josie, even though I like the name.... It's my dogs name

I will never name my child something that should otherwise belong to a pet- Spot, Kitty, Fluffy, Muffy, etc
I will never name my child something with only 1 Syllabol. I get annoyed with names like Jane, Anne, Jo etc, even though I know some great people with those names
I will never, ever name a child Britney, Christina, Jessica or Paris. If people really need an explanation for this one, I just flat out don't like these celebrities.
Allie
Dec 15 2005, 02:10 AM
Heh heh... it's good to see that neither "Allie" nor "Allison" has appeared on this list as of yet! I like my name, generally -- it's not one of those really obnoxious names that people have serious problems with but it's not too common (at least in my school), either. But what drives me nuts is when people spell it differently -- "Alison" doesn't get to me
too much (okay, maybe a little

), but I've never been into "Ally." Maybe it's because that's how people always want to spell my name when they hear it. People mess up my last name, too, but I ain't posting the mistakes here!

Aside from "Alison" and "Ally"... hmm... I'm basically with Pix (whose real name I did not know until I read her post for some strange reason

) and Aphie. No fruits or vegetables (e.g., "Peach"), no climatic conditions (e.g., "Sunny"), no weird, metaphysical, abstract concept-thingies (e.g., "Hope," "Charity"), no states, like as in the United States (e.g., "Virginia"), no months (e.g., "June," "April").
And just for the record (since someone mentioned it earlier on), if my parents named be "Beowulf" I would probably be suicidal. I really don't get how a parent could look at a little baby crawling on the floor and say "I know, let's call him Beowulf!" What would the kids at school call him -- "Beow" or "Wulfie"? Hmm.

Anything that has to do with fruits or vegetables. Cherry, Parsnip (yep, I know someone with the name 'Parsnip'). I'm just waiting for someone to name their kid Door or Chair or Table. Seriously. I don't know why, but I don't care for the name Bob. My favorite name is definitely Skandar.

Lol Janet i had a smiliar experince!
My Dad's name's Howard and my brother is Edward. And my mum suggested when she was pregnant that it would be quite nice if it were a boy if his name ended in 'ward.' There aren't that many and after a few names (Duward, Seward, Hayward) my mum said:
'Well..I guess there's always Hereward.' Pronounced
Hehreeward (i think)
then my dad goes 'Oh marveous! Hereward the wake..blah blah blah'
My mum prayed for a girl.
Whih she got, i know she would (or i hope) have put her foot down and the kid would have been called Alaisdair (Alistair) or Alec or something which are family names.
So i put in Hereward to start with because it's gross.
Also Gertrude...although i have a small obsession with that name, if i don't like some one in a pub i'll say my name's Gertrude, lol.
I don't like the name Bethany, think it's horrid which is weird because it's what i named my character in my Fan Fic!

although it's growing on me...slightly.
I don't like over used names, merely for the fact that they're overused! You call out 'David come in for tea!' and the whole street some flooding in. But there's nothing wrong with the name itself, just because it's so common. There are others, Lindsey, Johnathan, Graeme (Graham) Laura, Amy...
Hope i didn't offend any one

Ha! I like this thread!
I agree with almost all of what has been said. I don't understand why celebs think it is ok to name their kids such ridiculous names!! Some celeb named their kid Moon Unit. I think some guy from AC/DC maybe?

And someone else named their kid Phinnaeus or something? Is their a history behind that name or are they just trying to make me think to hard to try and spell that?
Also I would never name my kid after a fruit or a color or a season or month(sorry for those who are) but I just don't like many of those names.
I also think it is ridiculous how many repeated names we have. At my school we have a lot of Brittanys and Matts and Ashleys and Chris's. There is just so many you could yell out one of those names and about 5 different people would turn around. (big school. 2000 people)
Also their are people who like to "creatively spell" their child's name. I can't think of a real good example right now, but I think you know what I'm talking about.
Vindictive Dark
Dec 30 2005, 03:25 AM
I wouldn't use any common names like Ashley, Brittany, etc. All throughout school, there was always multiples of those, especially Ashleys, in all my classes. And Jennifers... those are really common too. I even know two that have the same first and last name.
I've always liked my name, because I am absolutely confident that no one else in the world has it. My first name is very Japanese, and my last name is very Serbian. Those are my heritages, and I am proud of them because they help me be unlike everyone else.
As for what celebrities typically name their children, I have no comment except that stupid people just shouldn't breed.

Without trying to sound too much like a fart, things have definitely changed in the classroom over the past ten years. I never had Britney's, Mackenzie's or Madison's - and Ashley's were almost exclusively male! Oh well, things change don't they?
Several rules to naming babies - never name them:
1) After a celebrity, of which they are are only example e.g. Mariah, Madonna or Prince
2) After a noun e.g. Apple, Table, Gravyboat
3) With an alternative trendy spelling e.g. Jezzika
4) After the pet (We named the dog Indiana...)
Proper names I don't like for no reason whatsoever (Quite a few HP in there actually):
Lindsay
Kelly
Jules
Chastity
Melvyn
Anthony (or Tony)
Harry
Ronald
Francis
Justin
Dean
Allan

The popular(or overused whichever) names don't bother me that much(besides the entire David scandal

), they're easy to spell usually and they're simple to say. I do get slightly annoyed when my name is mispelled, but children given normally-spelled names don't get they're names spelled wrong. I suppose the normality is what throws people off, but it doesn't bug me that much.
I've though of a few more:
