Mistletoe

Hermione pulled on her snugly fitting winter boots and wrapped her brightly coloured scarf around her neck. She ran down the stairs, knocking into Bill and Fleur on the way. Ginny was waiting for her. Mrs Weasley was fussing over Ginny’s scarf.
“Are you sure you’re not cold?” Mrs Weasley asked her daughter.
“Yes mum, I’m fine” Ginny snapped. Hermione smiled at them both, Ginny dragged her out of the door.
The snow softened at their feet and the icy leaves crunched. Snowdrops tangled themselves in Hermione’s hair and onto Ginny’s hat. They climbed the hill, towards the woods.
A snowball shot past Ginny, barely missing her. Another one hit Hermione on the leg. Picking up snow, Ginny and Hermione threw back at their attackers. Fred and George laughed as they dodged the snowballs. Soon a snowball fight started; the trio and Ginny against Fred and George. The laughter filled the surroundings.
Charlie Weasley smiled as he heard the laughing of his siblings and friends, as he walked up the hill. He saw Harry and Ron covered in snow, being pelted with snowballs by Hermione and Ginny. They covered their faces, laughing at the same time.
“Mum says dinners ready”. Charlie said from a safe distance.
“Excellent food” Ron said.
“Honestly Ronald is that all you think about?” Hermione scolded. Ron glared at her.
“C’mon, lets go” the twins said.
They ran down the hill; the twins pelting Charlie with snow. Harry and Ginny hand in hand. Ron and Hermione however walked down, frowning at each other. Mrs Weasley ushered them in, taking their coats and scarf’s. She pushed them to the table, moaning at them for being late. She began to dish out the food.
Chatting and laughter filled the room. At the end of the table, Mr Weasley, Charlie and Remus were talking seriously. Tonks, Hermione and Ginny sat beside them, whispering and giggling. Suddenly, Harry, Ron and the twins roared with laughter. Fred was banging his fist on the table and tears of laughter fell from Harry’s and George’s eyes. Ron looked at Hermione who rolled her eyes.
“What?” Ron asked Hermione.
“Nothing” she replied.
“Then why did you roll your eyes?”
“You were just being at bit loud that’s all” Hermione responded.
“Well I’m sorry for having fun” Ron snapped. Everyone at the table was now looking at them. Harry was trying to get Ron to be quiet. “I suppose Vicky never had any fun or laughed, not like he would with you anyway” Ron muttered.
Despite Ron speaking so quietly, Hermione heard and stood. “As a matter of fact he did. Believe it or not some people can have fun around me. Just because you’re so immature, doesn’t mean everyone else is. And don’t call him Vicky” Hermione shouted and stormed out. Ginny ran after her.
“Ronald Weasley” Mrs Weasley shouted her hands on her hips.
“You’ve done it now” George whispered to Ron “See you later, if you survive”.
The others at the table began to leave, except Ron, Mrs Weasley and Mr Weasley who was trying to calm his wife. This didn’t help.
“How dare you upset Hermione like that. You have just ruined Christmas dinner for everyone” Mrs Weasley shouted.

Hermione and Ginny sat in Ginny’s room laughing at Ron being shouted at downstairs. Hermione’s eyes were red from crying and an empty box of tissues sat beside her.
“At least mums telling him off now” Ginny said cheerfully “His ears will be bright red by now”. Hermione smiled weakly.
“C’mon the party has started”. Ginny grabbed Hermione’s hand and forced her downstairs.

The back garden of the Burrow was decorated with Christmas lights and tinsel. Celestina Warbeck sung out of the wireless. Harry and Ginny were dancing, as were Bill and Fleur. Hermione, wanting to be alone stood at the door, under the frame. She smiled as she saw Tonks trying to get Remus to dance. She felt someone approach her. Ron stood beside her.
“I’ve come here to apologise. I shouldn’t have said what I did and I’m sorry I upset you”. Ron said.
“It wasn’t necessarily what you said, but that we always have to argue and it upset me that you see me that way”. Hermione said.
“I truly am sorry, I never meant it”.
“You’re forgiven Ron, but only if you promise me that we won’t get into any silly little arguments”.
“I’ll try”.
Hermione laughed. “We better go join the others”. They both tried to move, but couldn’t. Their feet were stuck. Hermione looked up and sighed; “Who?”
“I bet it was Fred and George or Ginny”. Ron mumbled.
“Well, we’ll have to kiss to move” Hermione said without blushing.
“Right” Ron said nervously. He leaned forwards and kissed her. Hermione kissed him back and smiled to herself. From that moment on, she knew. It wasn’t the falling snow or the magic in the frosty air that made her realise; it was the mistletoe.
