I Was just wondering if anyone else things that the thestrals will be cut out?...i think they should remain being that first off i allways like the idea of how they worked, secondly since they do have a few parts in the book..ex. On the ride from the train station in the begining when they arrive at school, the part when UMbridge is asking hagrid all those questions when he returns o hogwarts. And of course when they ride them to the ministry..if it was up to me id say they would have to be in it, but of course theres allways a chance they will be cut and the director ( or screen play writers) will make up some other way for them to get to the ministry.
Sofie
i dont think they will be cut. how would then the Trio & co get to the mom? on the other hand, we have seen the horseless carriages (sp?) in PoA, so i see no reason why they would be cut out. blink.gif

they could include them without needing too much time. 4 lines betwen Ron and Harry would do, i guess wink.gif
Bumblebee
Think about it.... how difficult would it be for the CGI people to make invisible creatures? Most of the time in the scenes they would be ind=visible to everyone but Harry, so the actual screen time of a visible Thestral can be small.
Nimbus
Haha, thats a really good point Bumblebee. Also, David Heyman said at the premier that they have already began the conceptual design work for the thestrials, so I think we can be assured that they will be in the movie. You can check that interview out in the latest VTM, I think.
Spider22
I can imagine them cutting out the thestral's lesson and just improvising with Hermione giving the DA a quick lesson before taking flight.
Bumblebee
I don't know, the CoMC lesson is just the ideal vehicle for showing what Thestrals are.

I imagine that we see them in the scene with the coaches. They'll be visible on the screen because we're seeing it from Harry's viewpoint, and we see his bewilderment at the others not being able to see them, and his doubt, until Luna comments that he is not crazy, she can see them too. That's the first of the clues.

Then I think we'll see them in Hagrid's lesson, with plenty of explanation about how useful they are, etc. Harry sees them, but part of the scene we are following what the others see -- nothing except those pieces of flesh being ripped off the carcass and disappearing. Then we see how releived Harry is that he is not crazy (he didn't quite trust Luna, did he?)

I think they'll leave out him seeing the Thestrals being seen by Harry rocketing out of the Forest and zooming over the treetops.

Then we see them again (briefly) when they go to the Ministry. It will be fun to see them speeding through the air on those invisible beasts and being quite unnerved. When we're with Harry we can see the Thestrals fine, but when the camera takes the viewpoint of, say, Ron, there's nothing to see.

This would be the logical scipt. But the official script may be different. It all depends on the CGI budget and what other things will eat up the money.
james pickles
yeah spider22 i can imagine them cutting out the thestral scene but i dont want them to. its a shame even though its such a small thing to cut, i think they should keep it or i will get upset tongue.gif

Yeah, i remember that too. He said that they had already started working on the appearence of the threstrals and Grawp ( mad.gif ).
Im quite excited how are they gonna look like. The CGI staff is always incredible, though so no need to worry. wink.gif
priori_incantatem
I think they'll keep the part in the beginning where Harry can see the thretals, but none of his friends can, and Luna is also able to. They'll probobly keep the line "You'rejust as sane as I am."
I also think they'll keep the part when the fly to the MOM on them.
james pickles
yeah they have to keep that bit though or how else are they going to get the the MoM. that i am definate about, i so love the thestrals they are amazing and mystical creatures and i just love them.
Albus-wan
No way will they leave out the thestrals, because, in addition to the reasons already mentioned, Hollywood loves good visual effects. I bet the thestrals will be in most of the trailers because they're interesting to look at.

I'm excited to see how they're portrayed. It'll definitely add a somber tone to the carriage ride, and I'm sure they'll use that part to introduce Luna for some quick comic relief.
roonil_wazlib
I doubt they'll take them out. I mean, how will they all get to the Ministry at the end? And also, when they introduce them is when Umbridge is truly horrid to Hagrid. I don't like "That Umbridge Woman". XD
karsh05
i dunno...i can see them actually taking them out! i will, however, be really really really really really really really....

10 minutes later

...really really really really mad if they do! they are really a vital part of the plot and they just cant take them out.

O and i know this is sorta off-topic, but does anyone know for sure when the actors for oOtp will be annouced??? wink.gif
felix_felicis_444
I think the Thestrals will definitely be kept in the OotP movie. For one, they are a semi-vital part of the plot because Harry, Ron, Hermione, luna, Neville, and Ginny use them to get to the Ministry of Magic. Plus, I believe that this will be how they introduce Luna in the movie. The CoMC class will be out in the woods with Hagrid, who will ask if anybody can see "this," pointing at [what we see as] thin air. Harry and Luna will raise their hands, we will see a peak of Luna, and etc. etc.....

On top of all this, the directors have already [accidentally] put the Thestrals in a previous movie (PoA, I believe), so they already have the creature planned out. All they have to do is place them in!!

Wasn't there something at the main site a while back about the staff of the movie researching bird calls or something? There was some sort of speculation that this was somehow related to noises that thestrals would make. So I think there's a good chance they could be in the movie.
Allie
I really hope that the thestrals aren't cut, not only because I think they're a cool special effects opportunity, but because I hate to imagine the lame plot devices that the directors would come up with as an alternative means of getting Harry and co. to the Ministry at the end. wink.gif I'll be honest... using those "licorice snaps" as a way to get Harry to find the Pensieve didn't go down a storm with me in the GoF movie, and I'm not too keen to have any similar episodes in OotP. I seriously think it would be easier to spend a few extra minutes having Hagrid give a quick explanation of the thestrals than to have a well-placed Portkey pop up out of nowhere to take Harry to the Department of Mysteries or some other ridiculous thing along those lines.

That being said, I don't think I'm going to be disappointed -- like Albus-wan said, WB won't want to pass up those sorts of special effects. That shot of Buckbeak flying across the lake was in all of the PoA trailers, and unless I'm much mistaken, the dragon cropped up quite a few times in the footage before GoF was released. Plus, the creepy reptilian horses that only Harry can see add to the atmosphere. I agree with Spider about the Care of Magical Creatures lesson getting scrapped, but I don't think the thestrals will be cut entirely.
NightDance
I loooooooooooove the Thestrals, they are so cool. biggrin.gif
I really like the concept of them. Only people who have seen
death can see them. That is so deep, what a great idea.

I love the part where Harry, Ron, Hermione, Neville, Ginny
and Luna ride on the Thestrals to get to the Ministry of Magic.

I really hope that part makes it in the movie. smile.gif
GREDandFEORGE
I really hope they dont cut the thestrals, because they are a very important part of the book. I dont think they will, but then again, they have cut important parts before..so.. dry.gif

Sam
Urik Burik
I´m sure that they will not cut the therestrals.
They are too important to the story to be cut out.
I´t will just be hard to make them but you know i think i´ts possible. smile.gif
lilypotter76
I think that they will. I mean, its a very important part! I for one think that the whole book is VERY important, but of course, they can't do the whole thing, so i would keep many of the important things and not make things up like in the GoF film.
Hermione_Granger_246
Gosh, i dont think they will cut them out, I do however think that they will only show them at the beginning when they get off the train, and harry sees them for the first time, with Luna, but i think the class will be cut. Also, shouldn't harry have always been able to see them, he was with his mom when voldemort killed her, or, do you think perhaps that, since his head was facing the other way, (in the movie at least) he didn't actually "see" them die 1eye.gif
Zaela
I'd really like to see the thestrals so I hope they aren't cut out of the movie. I really want to see the part before they rode them to the Ministry of Magic and how they didn't know how to get on them because they all couldn't see that, that has to be really weird and I'd love to see it acted out in the movie.
evanescence
Thestrals will be in the film, undoubtedly! I can't imagine OoTP without Thestrals, Grawp, Centaurs and Kreacher...these are the magical creatures that hold the film in a fantastic plot and give a fairy-tale element...Thestrals are so mysterious, surely in the trailers will be included(Thestrals getting out of dark trees, or looking Harry full of hate, quite frightening!)
Heyman has confirmed it and they have filmed the scene where Hagrid is talking about them in woods!!!So, they will be!!!!!
james pickles
Yeah I know but I can't help but feel this sinking feeling that they aren't going to be in it, until we get a trailer or a shot of the thestrals then I will still think we are not going to see them unfortunately.
bluezz
True, thestrals do not appear in OotP often, but they are an important part of the plot and, of course, the theme of death. They act as a remindrer of Cedric's death and the importance of its affect of Harry. The thestrals hold a significant symbolical value to the HP. So no, I do not think they will be cut out.
Wolverine
If you watched the bonus features for PoA they already have a mechanical hippogriff, complete with servos cylinders and gizmos, so how hard could it be to swap out the feathers for silky smooth black skin? I am also in agreement with Hermione_Granger_246 why couldn't Harry always see them as I'm sure he witnessed his mother being murdered, didn't he?
LORDVOLDY17
I am in to minds about it [coz] because in the book they are important because they get harry, ron hermioney etc. to MoM. But then again known everyones luck the book was so big they will chop it out but i would love to see what the thestrals will or would look like in the film blink.gif [size=3][font=Century Gothic]

pettigrew
i belive that the thestrals are in the movie. i heard that some production guy said they were. i was so happy when i heard this. i became even more happy when i heard that grawp, the centaurs, and kreacher are in the film as well. all is well creature lovers! biggrin.gif
yuzna
It seems like they will be. Don't really know how accurate the page is I saw it on, but you can check it out on your own.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Potter_...Phoenix_(movie)
According to this page the scene with the thestrals is confirmed.
Angellina
I hope so because i think they would look cool ohmy.gif
Ministry-are-Morons
I think they should stay because how are they suppose to get to the Ministry of Magic[size=2][font=Comic Sans Ms]
xalliee
Thestrals almost have to make the movie. Between the carriages, the CoMC lesson, and the flying to the Ministry, they play a signifigant part in the book, so hopefully they will in the movie. Also, I think since they already showed us the carriages without thestrals in PoA, they will show us the carriages with thestrals. Hopefully anyway, I'm interested to see how they would bring them to life on screen.
Enough_space
Well, let's just say that I'll be very dissapointed if they cut them out. But I'm a little bit worried that if they decide to have them in the film they won't be as I have imagined them...
GinnyBrou
I think that the thestrals will be cut from the movie. I think this because the thestrals can only be seen by people who have seen death. It would be to hard to put that into the movie. If the thestrals are not cut from the movie than most likely everone will be able to see them.
Hilly
This isn't entirely related but I didn't want it to start a new subject because they are to close in common:

To elaborate on what GinnyBrou said: Harry can now see threstrals (along with Neville and Luna). But no one else can see them. So I was wondering how they were going to demonstrate this in the movie? Will they actually show the threstrals or keep them invisible? Either way it is going to be hard to illistrate the other point-of-view. I have no idea how they are going to show both of these ideas... What do you think?
james pickles
I think they will show them from different points of views. Like maybe Neville will speak and then Harry and they will show them at that moment, then perhaps Malfoy will speak or someone who doesn't have a big part and show them invisible. I think they will show them and make them invisible. And by the way Hilly biggrin.gif I do believe in magic XD
smartman299
the threstals are confirmed for the movie . ok now no worries. i
the_one_to_watch
*cough* yes *cough* they will be there *cough*
(Not sure if they'll make the final final cut though) unsure.gif

yep there deffinatly keeping it in, i think it will be really interesting to see what they look like bescause in the book when harry first see's them he say there ugly, but when he rides them to the MoM he say ''how could he ever of thought them ugly'' or somethink like that.how will they make them do that effect on people?
crookshankskitty
They better not leave the thestrals out!!! mad.gif If they do I will..... I don't know but I really hope they don't leave the thestrals out I mean they're really important! Harry and his friends use them to get to the ministry!
FELIX FELICIS1
if thesterals are cut out it could mean that there is no ministry they can't apparate or set up a port key and harrys firebolt is loked up in umbridges office. sad.gif
Moony_Lupin
Of Course they will, if they cut it, how Harry n their friends got themselves in the Ministry ? Using the Broomsticks ? unsure.gif unsure.gif
Harry Potter Fan
If they cut out the threstal scene. I don't know what I'm going to do. I will be just furious. Its a major plot line. Therefore I think it will stay.
alexisbanegas
i think they should they play a an important roll in the book and should also have it in the movie. they didn't put dobby or winky inthe 4th movie they were a main part and the theaser are important and we want well i want them in theMOVIE.
Kymar
The thestrals are pretty important, as they get Harry and company to the Ministry. I also really like the thestrals. I think they would have to have them in the movie, otherwise how are they going to get the kids to the ministry?
If they cut them out, I'll be quite upset, especially if they do the usual trick of taking them out to make room for a scene made up by the movie makers, that never appeared in the book. If they do that trick again, I'll just walk out of the cinema and never go see another HP movie.
Nymphadora_Tonks
The Thestrals are another thing that they will cut out and they'll put some stupid thing in their place. Just like Dobby giving Harry that stuff to make him breath under water (I forgot what its called) in the 4th movie. They couldnt add 5 seconds to the movie to make it right, they had to have Neville give it to Harry, now I love Neville but it should have been Dobby! In every movie they take something out and put something retarded in its place. At the end, Harry and everyone will find some other way to get to the DoM and it'll be weird (if they really dont have Thestrals) they should just keep them!
hermione_4ever
Hey guys, calm down.. If you didn't read the news, the thresals aren't cut (thanks God) Rupert just said that they just finished the scenes with them and that they were the coolest until now... I also thought at the beginning that they will cut it.. I mean, they always cut something impotand and put something stupid in it's place.. I would've expected to make them fly on brooms or get with Floo Powder at the Ministry (stupid ideas) But for the first time in a long period i wasn't disapointed in something about OotP ( i also like Luna - Evana, so this makes 2 goods) they finally made one wise decision and put that bloody lil' creatures in there.. Well, i thought so, i mean, they cut the Quiddich right? They had to something good...
dr_alexandre
they wont get cut because in an interview rupert says that his favourite scene so far has been riding the thestrals so they wont be.
potter's_gurl
