Was anyone else disappointed on chopped up this was? I felt like it was hardly even worth showing the way it ended up. mad.gif

It supposed to be one of the greatest events in the wizarding community. What they did show was okay, but definitely not spectacular in my opinion. I just couldn't believe how downplayed it was. Did anyone else feel this?
yelseaW
Yes, I felt like that something was missing, and I was really dissapointed when it ended...
potter_abdul
I felt it too.... there were something that were missing....
james pickles
yeah i came out complaining to my grandma that they didnt show more of the world cup scene. i really was looking forward to the scene and they bloody didnt show it. it so annoyed me.
Midnight
It seemed to me like all they showed was Ireland's leprechaun mascots, Krum flying around the stadium once, and Fudge announcing it's start. How totally lame! mad.gif

I mean, I didn't expect to see the match in full given how much else there was to focus on in the movie. They showed more of the stadium itself than the actual match. dry.gif
Rhiannon
In my opinoin World Cup scene was too short. Introduction impressed me and I waited for continuation but.... Pity. sad.gif
Thegirlwholived
Yeah. Everything was going so fast and it didn't even showed the quidditch game. I'd rather it showed tow parts of a movie (you know, 6 hour long) than a whole one.
wishmaster
I was really ****ed about the World Cup scene. I mean they show you this amazing stadium and you think "wow this is gonna be soo cool" and then bam they're back in the tent celebrating. That was lame.

i no i think theyve chopped so much out that film was a bit [MOD EDITED] at the begining like so uch chopped out thy wer only in rons room for about 5 seconds then next there walking to the portkey and the quiditch match was only on for about 2 ins its realy stupid like

MOD EDIT: The censors picked up a curse word in your post. This is a family site, watch your language.
k_weber08
Hey I agree with you all, I mean if you haven't read the Harry Potter book before seeing the movie, you would have had no idea what was going on. They could have shown at least shown 1 minute of the match, and show Krum catching the Snitch.
fallingXaway
I agree that the World Cup was a bit choppy, but can you really blame the writers? There was so much to cover in the book. There was no way that they could have added everything in the movie. Quit complaining. There was nothing more they could have done.

magical_number_7
Yes, I agree, that there was a lot to put into the script, but still, its the World Cup. For me that was one of the best scenes in the book, and they turn it into complete junk. *Sarcastic voice* Lets all go see the Irish mascots at the quidditch mact, its going to be great because Krum wil fly once around they stadium and Cornelius Fudge himself will start the match.* Boring, the could have atleast shown two minutes: A couple goals, a bludger hit, and the wonski feint and catching the snitch. That would have made the scene somewhat passable.
xfireflyx
Actually, I didn't mind this scene. If they had kept it going, I think it would have dragged on. We've watched matches before at Hogwarts, so it wasn't like we missed anything MAJOR.
However, I wish they showed more Malfoys. *pouts* I was excited to see if they would add Narcissa in, and they didn't, which was a dissappointment.
Oh, and the Veelas! I would have died laughing watching the boys reactions with those temptresses! biggrin.gif
Shame they didn't put them in...
kool kat
Well, before GoF actually came out I had heard that the World Cup was basically nothing, so I wasn't so much disapointed when it came to that part in the movie....just sort of sad. I know that it couldn't have lasted very long, as they had much more important things to include in the movie, but I felt that the Cup was kind of there to set a fluffy, happy tone (not to mention set up the plot in the book tongue.gif ), and really shock/scare you when the attacks happened that night. And also, I was interested in seeing the Veelas too, and like xfireflyx said, the boys' reactions to them would have been absolutely hilarious! tongue.gif
Phoenix92
Oh yes! I was totally dissapointed.I was looking forward to see it,you know.I was so excited when I went to see the movie.I told myself that I could see it visually and enjoy it much more than what I had read in the book. But it was all chopped off.Even I was also excited to see the Veelas because they are new to us and the descriptions made in the book made me more excited to see those Veelas. When the Veela part was cut off I thought I could atleast see Fleur, and there they would added some effects to show that she is a part Veela but that also they did not do.I was utterly dissapointed. mad.gif
Hilly
I, too, was sad to see it go. I really wished the would have at least shown the end, or more of the beginning. I don't know I guess I'm just kind of sad because the ampted up the stadium so much and you really didn't even get to see that much of the game. Even if they shorted the game, I would still be content. But, alas, blink.gif I shall never see a Quidditch World Cup. *sigh*
Spencer Potter
I actually wanted to see the Quidditch match but I guess it wasnt as much importance in the movie, but I mean they took so much.. you'd think they explain the end on how Barty Crouch, Jr snuck in. I mean I know how he did it, but if you watched the movie and read the book you'd never know. Kind of disappointed. wacko.gif
xXTonksXx
i was so annoyed about this. i was so looking forward to seeing the world cup and just how excited they were about it and i also wanted to see krum doing the wronski feint because they were all so amazed at it. it was just how the book made it sound so amazing and exciting......but then they went and cut it out mad.gif
twiggysun
I loved the way the quidditch stadion looked but I was missing the quidditch itself!! You don't see Krum do anything that would make him the best seeker in the world!! It was such a fun part of the book and in the movie it's just...well nothing!!
Aethonon
I missed the Quidditch, too. But the director focused on Harry's journey, he said, and so much of that game isn't really about Harry.

As for Crouch, it is another instance like the origin of the Marauder's Map in PoA. It would have taken so little to explain it properly, but noooo...they couldn't take 30 seconds to explain how Remus, James, Sirius, and Peter made the map, or how a man could be missing from Azkaban for almost a year and have no one missing him in GoF. rolleyes.gif

My son and I spent 30 minutes trying to fill in his poor friend who went to the theatre with us and kept asking questions, trying to fill in the gaps that didn't make sense. He hasn't read the books, but loves the films. I think the film did a disservice to those fans in that the movie is so confusing.

There are still parts of it I adore, though. smile.gif
SlytherinHeadGirl05
Okay i have to admit i was a fan of the movies FIRST. i wasn't even a fan but i was tricked into watching HP: SS and i fell in love with the movies. Now i had no problem with ANY of the movies except for PoA i was totally lost. though i still didn't read the books. when GoF came out i was SOOO excited! I took my sister, HER best friend and my friend to see it and my lil brother. we all sat in a row and we watched it. Now....when i saw the Quidditch stadium i got REALLY excited i was thinking "Oh quidditch!!!" being a movie fan only, you NEVER knew it was the World Cup seriously you didn't, until my sister and her friend were talking about it with my brother. they were chanting in their seats "world cup! world cup!" over and over again. i also noticed when they approached the stadium on camera view, the audience i was with got all excited and stuff. it was slightly hilarious when it showed Fudge announce the beginning of the match. Almost everyone was leaning in their seats. or at least the people i could see in front/around me. When that sparkling light flew up over the stadium and then turned into the Weasleys' tent this was the immediate reaction to the audeince members around me, I'm literally serious.

'WHAT?!!?" "AWWWWWWW" "WHAT THE F***?!?!??!" and people began slamming back against their seats and muttering i actually found it hilarious but i was completely confused!!!!! later my sister and brother and her friend (while complaining alot) they sort of let me in on some things. then finally when the 4th dvd came out and more people bickered about what was wrong with the movie i finally read the books and i have to agree GoF SUCKED!! BUT! Nothing is as bad as PoA!!!!! MYSELF, i even knew as a movie-based fan at the time KNEW things were missing!!!!

sorry mods if you get mad but, the scene with cedric and harry talking about the egg. if you want a funny face to look at you should of seen the reaction i had on MY face when i saw Dan/harry sitting in a tub of bubbles! i was NOT expecting that but nearly EVERYONE around me did, well especially girls @.@ they were getting anxious and giggly and snickering and also leaning forward in their seats, my sister and her friend did it too, especially her friend who is a major Dan fan! i was like "What the...?" i had my head resting on my hand and my head slipped and banged against the armrest of the seat i was in and my mouth was hanging open you should of heard the girls squealing!!!! the moment cedric came up to harry and mentioned the egg all girls bgan to have heart attacks. and someone actually wanted THAT scene extended? of dan swimming around? i don't think so i think they would of had a theater full of passed out from shock girls if that happened XD lol sorry off topic sorry.

all i have to say is that GoF should of been a bit better.
Seriouslysirius
Yeah the stadium looked great and all.
And i was looking forward to a good game of Quidditch when poof!
It turns to Mr Weasley blowing out a flame.
They really should of shown it. It would of been great.
Though i suppose they where trying to make sure it wasn't to long.
Mind you i wouldn't of cared.
ChoChangizHot
Yea thats true, in the book they made it a very important event but in the movie it was pretty disappointing. You didnt get to see much of how Irelands chasers beat down Bulgaria until Krum was forced to catch the snitch and lose the game anyways.
CursedMagic
I Totally Agree, I Was Expecting To See The Wronksi Feint Or However u Spell It

And Some Other Stuff -- I Was Soo Disappointed

Oh my God i totally know about what you are talking !!! Except, at that time I had read the books and i was one of the people in the theatre very angry. When Fudge started talking, started saying his speach, I was so excited! I really liked a lot that chapter in the book explaining detalied all the game, but when i saw the scene was back at the tent of the Weasley`s, it happened exactly as you said, the people started talking with himselves very loudly and I heard clearly "WHAT??? THOSE STUPIDS!!" i was shouting too of course... the point is I got out from that theatre quite dissapointed...
jiggery-pokery
Yeah I agree too. Ireland wins but Krum gets the Snitch? That was kind of ridiculous, also with the bet that Fred and George made with Ludo Bagman. Whatever happened to him? The last thing I heard about him was that he was running away from goblins because he owed them money from gambling.
Miss Minerva Mcgonagall
I thought it was a bit rushed, but then again whole film was. I know they had alot to fit and thats hard but they spent too much time on pointless scenes like the whole dragon scene. Did it have to be so much longer than it was in the book?
I wasn't disappointed that we didn't see the quidditch, atlhough I wanted to see Harry and Ron go crazy over the veelas laugh.gif
The death eater attack was the scene I thought was rushed, what was the point in putting it in if they weren't going to show it properly, it would have been five more minutes screen time!
( Half-Blood-Prince)
i really liked the introduction to the world cup i was expecting something big from the way the teams entered the stadium i remember sitting thinking this is going to be a great match but the BANG its over..and even the next part where the death eaters come to the camp i would really have liked to have seen more there not just harry getting knocked out 2 minutes into it wacko.gif
Ginerva Weasley
I sort of did feel it was a bit short but other wise the movie would have gone on for three hours at least and that is a bit long but they should have added a bit more to the scene but over all the scene was cool
HermioneClone
I was expecting it to be a better, longer scene and was disappointed but I got over it. There is a limit in time, etc. and if they had elongated the Quidditch scene they would have taken scenes away from the already time-limited movie. There is so much stuff to fit and it's impossible to please everyone. If they had spent more time on the Quidditch World Cup and less on the tasks, people wouldn't like that either.
Edited to Add: They did, however, forget to really summarize what happened. As someone who has read the book I know what happened and I don't need it explained to me, but not all people who watch the movies read the books.
~Dobby's.sock~
I am sort of ashamed to say it, but I wasn't actually a fan of the novels when I went to see GoF *sigh, what a nong I was not to have read the novels! Because of this I did not realise that the scene had been severley shortened however I was able to establish that everyone was at the world cup. Now when I watch GoF I notice everything that was cut out and I now I am dissapointed that weren't able to view Krum at his best during the match. I would have liked to see the mascots and referee situation (Veela problem) as well. I suppose it wasn't overly necessary. But the music played during the world cup is so good, I like listening to the soundtrack.
As mentioned by SlytherinHeadGirl05 I wasn't expecting the bath scene but seeing that I am a Daniel fan I guess I am glad that it was there wub.gif laugh.gif .
I am disappointed that old Dobby wasn't included in the film, a quick mention of S.P.E.W. and Dobby wouldn't have increased the running time by very much.
Sorry, off topic.

Anyway, bye!

I was really looking forward to some quiditch in this movie. I think that all the movies would be better with more quiditch, but oh well. The world cup scene was way too short for my liking. We didn't even get to see the mascots...and when the death eaters came in, what's up with that (I mean their cloaks). They looked like the KKK with their pointed hoods! How could the producers overlook that.
HPfan#1
I have to admit i was a bit disappointed when i seen the World Cup scene in GoF because i thought they would have least have shown little clips of the actual match!! I love Quidditch and i was really looking forward to seeing that bit!!
robbie1955
Where to begin with the World Cup? The Weasleys for once were privileged to sit in the "Top Box" right alongside the Malfoys, why mess with that? What was Harry doing wearing Belgium's colors, all the Weasleys were pulling for Ireland? Where was Winky? Why weren't the Death-eaters torturing Muggles, where were the Muggles anyway? Wrongski Feint? Model Krum doll for Ron? I think we saw the Omnioculars, but didn't know why.

BUT, they had to put a lot of book into a little movie (I would not mind sitting through a 4 hr movie, but they really are there to make a couple of billions of bucks so.....)
ChOco
well, it wasn't what I expected. I was looking forward to something unreal and dramatic. and this frankly, wasn't up to my standards.

true, why cut sooooooo many things out. I mean ok, I don't mind cutting the model krum doll, but why, did they cut winky, or the malfoys, and the wrongski feint???
fany_monkey
yeah it did seem really weird to me that they cut so many things out from the scene! expecially the top box thing! i mean why did they make it so that they were all the way up! i know it was hard for them to cut so many things because well the book was so long but i think most of the things from the world cup were important!
X-Girl
I was kinda disappointed with World Cup. They cut the veela and leprechans and there wasn't even a few stinkin' minutes of Qudditch. mad.gif The model Krum, they could have just had it for a second to show how much Ron liked Krum.
I did like the tent. It was very neat looking. No if I could get a tent like that I'd go camping lol. laugh.gif
I think they cut Dobby and Winky because didn't Vladimir Putin ban HP CoS in Russia because of Dobby or something? wacko.gif
SavingSirius
I, for one, was incredibly dissapionted by the whole Quidditch Match sequence. The tent was good though. However, why were the Weasley's not in the Top Box with the Minister? Why was Harry wearing Bulgarian colours? I was looking forward to the Quidditch match, the Wronski Feint escpecially. I was also looking forward to see the Veela and the Omnioculars. Also why weren't the Death Eaters torturing Muggles? OH Thats right they didn't include the camp site owner so to the people who haven't read the book there were no muggles! ¬_¬ Where was Winky? Why were we shown who conjured the Dark Mark? OH WAIT its all for the people who haven't read the book wasn't it! I was not at all impressed with that scene at all.

Sorry was having a bit of a flow going there. [:
lilypotterlovesjames
i love this fire and flames and harry passed out wat could get beter than that
nevillesgirl
I was incredibly let down with the final result of the World Cup scend in GoF. Its not so much that I wanted to see the entire match, but some would have been nice. I think seeing Krum prove himself as the best seeker would have been nice since all we are used to seeing is Harry and we all think he's pretty fabulous.
Actually what I was missing was the whole mascot thing. That would have explained Veela really well and seeing as Fleur was part...it would have given us an idea about why ron got so crazy around her.

The Weasleys should have been in the top box and winky should have been there. We should have gotten our first look at the Death Eaters too. I just feel like the movie sprung a whole bunch of first looks on us when they could have prepared us a bit with the cup scene.
workaholic_1231
I agree with those who said that too much was left out of the World Cup scene such as Winky. But I have to admit, I really enjoyed the little leprechaun (sp?) fireworks and such. I think that the graphics for the scene were very good!
white_bumblebee
i was soooo annoyed about the quidditch scene or lack of it!! i love sport and so naturally im really interested in quidditch in the harry potter world. it was one of the things i was most looking forward to!! when it started showing the stadium i got so excited, especially as it was so big and brilliant, better than any stadium in real life, then it was gone! i couldnt believe it, i looked around at my also-obsessed-with-harry-potter friend and we just looked at eachother like What? ! i was so disappointed, altho tbh i was with the whole film, it was so rushed and they changed the plot!!! but ill stop now or ill be ramblin on about it all night!
Battlefield2142
i was looking forward to the world cup mostly in the movie and they didn't show it, when i seen it i was so mad that i didn't even want to go see it again and i went and seen the others 2 or 3 times each. but i only seen GoF one time i was so mad.
Potterwatch GMO139
I agree, but then again I think all of the movies are like that...
:/

and I hate it!
Lauren0891
I was very disappointed with the World Cup scene. I thought that we'd be able to see some playing as the Qudditch scenes are my favourite scenes in the movies. I loved watching the Quidditch scenes in PS and CoS they were excellent... *ahem* back on topic... I wanted to see them actually playing Quidditch. I'm not really bothered that they cut out the Veela *shrugs* they weren't really essential to the plot.

I agree. When I saw that the Weasleys weren't in the top box I was like... what? mellow.gif That was in the book there was no point in changing it. Seriously, how much extra time would that have taken up?

The Death Eaters attack was not incredibly well done. They should have shown them levitating the muggles. And winky was not in that which was annoying. dry.gif The whole winky storyline was left right out which bugged me as I thought it was rather important to the plot.
harryjpotter
The World Cup scene made me cry.

I was really disappointed at this. I don't mind it so much now having watched the films so often but I do get a pang of longing to know what it would have been like.
mugglelovrspew
Oh, this definitely disappointed me. They left out the Muggle Camp Ground Overseer, whom the Death Eaters later attack. And Hermione and Ginny have a different tent than the boys, whom some of which were not there. The Weasleys, Harry, and Hermione were in the top box with Winky, Ludo Bagman, and what not. Harry, also, didn't get lost from Hermione and Ron during the DE attack scene, but in the movie he did. This makes me mad that they changed so much in just that little bit.
