I read HBP 3 times in the first week and i have read PS 6 times, COS 4 times, POA 8 times (it is my fav) GOF 5 times, OoTP 5 times adn HBP 7 times all together. I love these books so much they are like the only things that are keeping me sane and of course the movies to.
makemeinvisible
I don't really pick up my books and read them cover to cover. I got over that a while ago. If I'm in the car or doing something boring, I'll take a book with me and flick through to the bits that I want to read. Like the scene in Snape's Pensieve, Malfoy the amazing bouncing ferret..etc. That way, I stay in touch with each book without having to fully read it.
GardenToad
I reread the series just before a new one comes out. Sometimes I reread a book because of a part I like that something reminded me of. Sometimes I check parts of the books to see about some fact mentioned in a post. That may well lead to a reread of the whole book. Must have read them all 5 or 6 times.
Ginny_Hermione
I am just beginning to read the series for the fourth time! smile.gif Like you said, BlackMagicMan, it gets my mind off any problems in life. I imagine myself right there, next to the trio, I don't worry about things, unless related to Harry Potter. But my mom acts like I am crazy for reading the Harry Potter books again. Now, I can say how many times other people have read the books! laugh.gif I always find something new each time I read them!

Ginny happy.gif
Seriouslysirius
Yeah i always read the Hp books again and again. I've read the Half Blood Prince like ten or more times. It's proberly more times. I think i can't not carry on reading the Hp books.
I happen to be reading OOTP at the moment because of the film coming out.
twiggysun
I read the books in Dutch first, SS once, CoS once, PoA twice, GoF twice, Ootp four times and HBP twice... and now I'm rereading them in english. I'm now reading HBP again and then I'm going to read SS again and then I'm finished( I've read the other ones before these)... But I already read SS once in english...
Ok I read a lot of Harry Potter!!!! and I keep loving it so I don't think I'm going to stop soon
Spencer Potter
happy.gif cool.gif Ive read PS, 5 times, CoS 2 times, PoA, 2 times(3rd time now), GoF 3 times, OotP 3 times and HBP 2 times. I like reading the book so many times is kinda scary, very scary.
Albus Dumbledore
I've read 1-4 well over 20 times(not lying!) due to the fact that we waited so long for book 5! Book Five I read about 6 times, and Book Six I have read 8 times... though I reference the books often, and reread chapters just for the sake of finding evidence... so there is alot of collected reading that doesnt add.
Capricorn
I was mainly drawn into posting here because on the index page 'Rereading Harry Potter' and 'HP is being read into too much' is sitting right atop each other! tongue.gif *ahem*

Yeah, I've read the books lots of times, though these days, I don't read them start to finish. I'd just pick up one of them lying around randomly, read a bit, and put it down again. Maybe I'll attempt a complete series re-read when the holidays start.

Our copy of GoF has split into two volumes, OotP is being kept together by mercy and the outer cover, and the first three are dog eared. HBP seems to be handling the onslaught quite well - hmm, I'll have to do something about that... I love to forget about an HP book and then pick it up a month or so later - it feels like visiting a happy memory when I read it again then!
Albus Dumbledore
you know, its funny you said that... all of my older books...books 1-4 are holding up well... some seperation from the spine, but still intact. Order of the Pheonix is a little worse than GoF, but in good shape. Now HBP, the newest one, began to seperate from the spine this summer... its almost as if they rushed publishing, and the construction is poorer... I fear the first week of Book Seven I might own Book Seven Pamphlets, rather than a novel.. hehe! biggrin.gif

~Albus
Ginny_Hermione
All my Harry Potter books are hard cover and in good condition. Except, for CoS. Almost all of the book, except for the last few pages, like 3 or something is completely detatched from the spine. If you don't hold the book, supporting it properly, the whole thing all pages except the last few, and they are all still stuck together with glue, slide out. They slide out as one big chunk. I am not sure how many more times I can read it! laugh.gif

Ginny! cool.gif
Spencer Potter
All my books are hardcover but Order of the Phoenix and HBP. All are in good condition except for Order of the Phoenix which has got a orange juice stain on it from when I was reading it at camp, and chocolate milk stain and cheezie stain- and you can tell I read it all night because of those stains, when you read it, you can tell I pulled an all nighter. wacko.gif
Bumblebee
I bought the first two books in paperback, all the others in hardback first and then paperback. Mainly because my copy of GoF fell apart. It seemed to be poorly made for a bound book. You'd expect a sturdier spine and bound bindings instead of glue. The publishers make enough money to spend a little more on the production! Especially if you consider that this is not a read-once-then-forget type of book!

I've read the books quite a few times -- I've lost count. Plus, my copies are read by my friends.

etphonehome
I have all the books in hardback and paperback...I wanted to keep the hardbacks in pristine condition and thats why I bought the paperback, which are I'm afraid a little dog earred (terrible habit, must by a book mark)! Although I have read the hardbacks...just once each.

I have lost count of the number of times I have read and reread the books. I haven't read them through for a while now though because since joining VTM I find I look for specific passages when discussing a topic!
7134407
Yeah, it is sad, but I do it too. I'm glad you mentioned that little things crop up again because I have also noticed that. For example I re-read PoA and noticed that Diggory was the Hufflepuff seeker, which I completely forgot about because it is mentioned once in a small part of the book. Then, obviously, he reappears in the very next book. So, yeah, I try to look for small things in the previous books to predict the final book.
shanshan
I reread the books all the time. Its fun. Numbe rone it something to keep you from boredom, and number two whenever you reread something you pick up on things that you didnt catch the first time around.
HermioneClone
I have completely lost count of how many times I have read each of the books. Way over 20-30 times for 1-4, and a little bit less for 5 and 6.
My copies are all hard backs. I've lost the covers for books 1-5, and I have a torn up cover for book 6, thanks to my puppy and teething. blink.gif And when I was a bit stupid I wrote inside my GoF copy! I so regret that now.
My poor books have been everywhere with me and reread over and over again. I do want to buy new hardback copies and take care of them and keep them in tip top condition.
I am telling myself I will keep the next book in the best conditon I can.
MaGicAl ThReEXxX
I am only starting to re-read now. I wasn't so obssessed last year. 1-4 aren't hard backs and 5-6 are.

I've read the first twice, the second twice, i am reading the third for a second time, fourth once, fifth twice, sixth twice. All my books are in great shape; i make sure they a kept in good condition. biggrin.gif
lp_supastar
Harry Potter 1-4 are all in paperback and 5 and 6 are in hardcover...i wish all of mine were hardcover! i've never even seen 1-4 in hardcover! sad.gif

I've read PS 6 times, CoS 4 times, PoA 5 times, GoF 6 times, OotP 5 times and HBP 5 times...ill probably read DH about 20 times! laugh.gif

Most of mine are in good condition except CoS whose paperback cover is lightly peeling off and PS who has a badly bent cover...the hardcovers are so much easier to look after...
Moon(I luv you Luna)
I've got 1-4 in paperback, 5-6 hardback.

I reread the books over and over again anyway, so i oretty much know them by heart. my worst battered copy is a tie between GoF and OotP because the front cover is nearly coming off on GoF (There's a lot of selotape on it) and OotP because i left it on the floor at one of my friends houses and her dog chewed off the corner! laugh.gif

the one in best condition in HBP probably. I've read the books i don't know how many times-probably more than 20-all of them! happy.gif
gingerhairedboyismine
I, like all of you, read the books in an excesive amount. I read each book before the movie comes out so I can point out what's the same, different or new to myself (and others around me, who can get annoyed ; D). I've read each book at least 3 times but one more for sure for GoF because of the movie coming out so recently. I read them over the summer when I go up north, because it's extremely boring. Anyone have any incredible records of hours it took to read any book? Just message me, I'd love to know. I have a friend who can read them in amazingly short amounts of times, so I'd like to see some competition for her.
GreenGred
I have read all of them more time then i can count except for number six which i have read only five times. A friend and i have competitions who can read the whole series the fastest. I read book six in a little less the 9 hours or so because i didnt put ti down for a second. a weird thing i like to do is read them in reverse order then read them in the correct order. I know its weird but i love for them to last a long time and this way they do.
Ginny Weasly-15
haha i ALWAYS reread the books!!!!
ive read them all about, like.....
*thinks hard...*
15 times each and in a grand total of three-four days a piece!
i could do better than that, but my parents are trying to rid this obsesion from me, so i cant just sit in my room all day to read it...
they must really hate me...
haha lol jk they just dont understand HP laugh.gif
TheGoodGirl
I didn't start reading Harry Potter until right befor HBP came out, so I've only had to wait on 1 book (and it wasn't even that long..just a few weeks) but I've only read each 1 once....I'm trying to wait until just befor DH comes out to re-read them, so every little thing will be fresh in my mind...but it's hard!!!!
leaveoneee
yeha i'm like the rest of us "pott-heads." I tried to read halfbloodprince over again..but i only got around to reading it twice now..every other book has been read atleast once. i lvoe the harry potter books...i'll probly do the same though..start at the beginning and go through all seven books..see how long that'll take me. =)
gryffindorgirlie
Of course i re-read them! I've been re-reading them for the past year and my mum, being a teacher, gets really annoyed because I wont read aything else. I definately think that you understand the thicker books once you read them again. But everytime I try to re-read HBP, it gets more and more confusing. I think the whole Minister and Prime minister bit at the start droned on a bit. I mean, with all due respect to JK, all that for a really small part in the book. I dunno though, it could be more consequential in DH...
Velvet
I'm adding my name to the list of re-readers smile.gif, I also started reading Potter fan-fiction, and have started re-reading some of my favorite in those too (some of them are so excellently written) - I am so sad sad.gif ). I love re reading the books and noticing things that I missed, and even looking up the symbolisms and background of the names, plots etc that make the books so fantastic,

but with reading fan fiction in conjunction (usually, I'm hopeless and generally have a Rowling book upstairs and a fan fiction in another room and mix and match tongue.gif ) I sometimes am very guilty of oh confusing the two and being totally convinced that something I read in a fan fiction occurred in the real novels (for example, one had a truly convincing back story regarding Peters betrayal, and I almost used it as cannon evidence for a theory *doh* rolleyes.gif )

I generally reread the book two or three times following their release, and then pick them up again in between other books and uni work etc - but more often than not I skip past the bits that I don't like subsequent to the initial few reading sessions (so in my versions OotP finish with the battle and erm..no I don't know what you mean about Sirius dying thats not in my version tongue.gif).

I have re-read OotP to death, it is incredibly well written, very emotional and slow for the serious parts (such as the conversation with DD) but very fast and exuberant for light hearted bit - she really hit the nail on the head with that book *bows down*

but unfortunately I haven't really bothered with HBP, it is really hard to skip past some of the bits I don't like in that book as its just mingled throughout, A friend of mine was considering typing it all up for us both but omitting some of the excessive shipping - she never got round to it (I did mock her quite a bit for the idea, but would have rasped a hold of it gratefully tongue.gif )
happy-potter
Wow, and I thought I was obsessed with the Harry Potter books. I have re-red those over 20 times each. Not of course the 6th.
But you’re all more obsessed than me. (Not that it’s bad or anything).
I really love that every time I re-read a book, I find more details and understand it all.
And I need to read all the first six books before the 7th I relished.
priorincantato
I actually just reread all six books over the winter break between semesters at school. I think I read 6 twice actually, because I had read 6 first, and realized I was just going to read 1-5 as well. Then when I got to 5, after having read 5 books I realized I needed to read 6 again! Haha. That sounds confusing now that I read over it blink.gif, hehe, but oh well. I'm most likely going to read all 6 books once more in the middle of June, going into July just before DH comes out so that I can be completely caught up and know what's going on.
CornishPixie
I'm a huge re-reader of all the titles. Have probably read them each at least 5 times....I put them down from time to time to read other stuff, of course, but am currently in a particularly obsessive phase where I am just reading them over and over again and it's all I read PLUS - I am reading them to my children.

I enjoy them every time. Nothing's quite like the first time, but I just enjoying hanging out in the world that Rowling has created.
El Barto
I've reread them all once except the 4th and 6th, currently working on the 4th. Its nice to go back and figure things out from the beginning, stuff you missed, and learn...or relearn...stuff that some people talk about but you don't remember it being mentioned in the books.
*Sparkle*
I try and guess when the next one is coming out and then re-read, from the beginning, the books. That way, it refreshes my memory and you do pick little things up that make sense in the later books that you don't realise the first time you've read them.

I guessed that the book would come out the middle of this year, (after the rumours of it coming out on the 7/7/07) and so started reading in October of last year. Kind of miss-judged how long it would take me though, as i've already finished them!!!!
d_r_a_g_o_n_h_e_h_1_3
This sounds really depressing, but I've read the firt Harry Potter book at least 17 times! I can't say exactly, because I lost count a long time ago. I always read what there is of the series before the next book comes out, and I start the first one when I'm sick or bored, then I get stuck, and have o finish the series. We also do a lot of traveling, and the faithfull Harry Potter books always manage to come along. I'm not a geek, I jut get buried in books easily, and I never get bored of the same one.
Hermione'sfan
Ok so i am not the only one who rereads and rereads the HP books i love them and can't help myself someday I just get the mood for HP and i will start reading them all over again I read them all before a new one comes out and i try my best to time it so that i am just fininshing the last one the day i get the new one but sometimes my timing is a little off oh well so anyways, my curse is that i can't just read one or start in the middle when i want to read any HP I have to start form the begining with PS and read straight through till the end of what i have at this point HBP when DH comes out I will be so excited that i will probably read all of the books through two or three times in a row from start to finish but i will also have a little one to take care of shortly afer DH comes out so that may put a slight hinder on my reading time oh well i know i will find the time even if i have to sit there with the baby in my arms and read to it. I don't know if anyone else has the same curse as me but like i said i have to read them all and in order if someone asks me if i noticed something in one of the books then i will start and the begining and read them all again just to see what they are talking about.
Weasly_Girly_83
Wow, well I don't know really how many times I've read each book. But before each new one comes out I'll go back and re-read the entire series of things that may be important, then I'll read the new one when it comes out and then go back and read straight through. And I'm to the point where if I'm bored I can go pick up any one of the books and open it to a random page and just start reading from there. Also, if I am reading one and they mention something that happened in a previous book I'll go look that up really quick before continuing. So, yea, I've read them all way more times than is probably healthy....

So this is my second chat/forum ever. Sooo exciting. I have a theory. Crookshanks, Hermione's cat will turn out to be an animagus who is actually Regulus, R.A.B., the dead brother of Sirius.
I came to this conclusion while rereading The Order of the Phoenix...

Since I am new to HP chats, I don't know if this is a well established theory or just a unique twist of my addled brain tongue.gif

Wow, I'm so glad to know I'm not the only person!

My friends all make fun of me because the number of my readings is up in the twenties or thirties for each book! I've been reading them since they came out, and I go through dry/wet Harry Potter spells, meaning I either have nothing to do with it, or nothing to do with anything else.

I bring at least one of the Harry Potter books with me on every vacation I go on, and read it at least once.

I love having read them all so many times, because I notice something different every time I read it.

you're definitley not alone on that. I get made fun of on an almost dailey basis by my friedns about how obsessed I am with the books. lol. They just don't understand I guess...sigh...just out of curiosity though, the fact that your on a fan site replying, would this happen to mean that your at the point where you "don't do anything else?" Just kidding.

It is odd that I also have re-read all of the books at least twice. I first read the series entirely backwards, because the library had them like that.
Padfoots Companion
I am SOOOO Happy that I am not the only one. I didn't really get into the books until HBP, and then it was my grandparents who bought it for me so I read it for them, but now I am hooked! I have read and re-read all the books, I think I am on the 7th time... I was always into the movies, my husband got me into those when I was pregnant with our son 4 years ago. I was never much of a reader till HBP. However I have been a Harry Potter fan since 2002!

Well it's glad to know that I am not alone biggrin.gif
Lil Cougar
I have reread the books about 10 times each...
My friends and family are always making fun of me, they say I 'm addicted to Harry Potter and that it can't be healthy for my brain... My answer to that is "At least I'm addicted to Harry, not Herione..." they always laugh at that. biggrin.gif
My teacher says that read to much about Harry Potter and magic and stuff and that I should read a biography... I read the biography of JK Rowling... my teacher wasn't happy... tongue.gif
HPfan#1
I have re-read and re-read the Harry Potter books what feels like a million times!!! I just love them soooo much!! Right now I am re-readin Order of the Phoenix but I stopped for a while because I had bought my Torchwood books biggrin.gif !!
sw33t_Evanna
I have read all the books more than twice. Whenever a new book is about to come out I start reading all the books in order. The book I awaited was HBP and it had a very sad ending. So I read some cheerful chapters from GOF. I have read:

SS = 4 times

CoS = 6 times

PoA = 4 times

GoF= 5 times

OotP = 4 times

HBP = 3 times

And now I'm gonna read them all again!!! biggrin.gif
Seriouslysirius
Ok i have reread HBP once again today. That is the one i reread the most because i beleive it holds the most clues to the last book.

The HBP = About 20 times now. No honestly i'm not kidding.

Rereading Harry Potter books is great.

Wow, sw33t_Evanna you remember how many times you have read each one i normally just forget. laugh.gif

I know i have every book a fair amount though.
robbie1955
I cannot speak for anyone else, but I re-read Potter from SS through HPB whenever the whim strikes me. Its about a 4 day adventure, since I am currently unemployed. I have probably read the books through about three times since last September. I never feel like its old hat, even though I know what's going to happen ahead of time, I still get lost in the Prose.
After the Burial
That is nothing new to me Robbie. I work as a lifeguard during the summer. At my pool, we tend to have some spare time during every day. On a good day, I can read any of the first three while I am at work. I read the entire series (books 1-6) four times between June and August last year. I read Half Blood Prince four times in August and September alone. Sadly, I have not had time to read them since then.
gryffindorgirlie
OK, confess how many times you have reaad HP books or seen the HP movies...

Well I'm a movie manic. I've seen GoF 52 times. PoA about twenty. CoS I hven't got on DVD so not so many. PS about twenty.

Books take longer to read but I stay devoted! That's right, I havn't read anything but for about two years!

So.... CONFESS! blink.gif blink.gif
hedwig_321
I've read the All the books a million times.I just open to any random page and start reading wink.gif happy.gif but I don't much care for the movies..ahave watched each at least two times. The PoS i only watched once. happy.gif
Phoenix92
Yeah..books about million times. My dad keeps shouting at my about re-reading the books. He just asks,"don't you get bored reading the books again and again?"..but I know for Harry Potter fans the books never gives them a boring mood.I haven't seen the movies..about 52 times and all..just two or three times..the movies make me bored but not the books.. biggrin.gif
Jamie_Potter
I can honestly say that I have lost count of how many times I have read the books. I have read them over and over since I was 11 and when a new one is coming out, I read the entire series again so I'll be on track when the new one comes out. Right now, I'm reading them in reverse order, starting with HBP and ending with PS.
