I've read each book at least twice so and also as we speak I am re reading HBP for any details i missed

Jul 6 2007, 03:05 AM
Well I have seen each movie plenty of times (I can't count) but the books are:
PS=3-4 times
CoS=4-5 times
Poa=4-5 times
GoF=4-5 times
OotP=4-5 times
HBP=3 times and re-reading it again at this moment.
I love the books. The reason why PS is 3-4 because my mum read it to me the first time. And HBP well I tried reading it agin another time but I got bored by the first chapter.

geeee....
I have read the books at least a billion times! Ok, that's exaggerating, but it just feels like it. I know that I've read OotP at least 30 times... I've read Chamber of Secrets the least. As for movies, I have seen them countless times. GoF not as often... CoS probably the most.

I've noticed that when you reread them, you notice more little details! Right before book 7 comes out, I'm going to read them all in order. Now I'm reading PoA... This way I can analyze and predict what might happen in HP DH.

lol i am re-reading them now, in a worthless attempt to get them all finished before DH. i haven't been reading long but i'm on 100 and something in the 2nd book. i haven't had a lot of time to read actually.
anyways its only when i began to read the 1st when i realised how much the movies change/miss out. and its only when i re-read when i remember how funny they are!
like the1st book for example. at the devil snare part Hermione's breaks free and then she tries to remember how to defeat the plant! and when she says it likes the "dark and damp"
harry says "then light a fire." Hermione then says "but i haven't got any wood!"
too which ron replies "ARE YOU A WITCH OR NOT!" (just quoting, i'm not shouting, i swear.)
i just thought that would have actually been heaps better in the film...would have got more laughs!

Oh my god, you don't even want to KNOW how many times I watch the movies! My sister, who's only 6, doesn't read the books but is OBSESSED with the movies, watches them like, every day and I have to watch them with her. The books, I read the 6th and the 3rd the most, but I do love the 5th too. I read them like, every week (okay, so I'm exaggerating, about the movies too, as you can probably tell). But I read them countless of times!

PS- about 20 times
CoS- about 30-35 times(Its my favorite one)
PoA- at least 40 times
GoF- about 30-35 times
Books-
PS- once (Since I just found it in my house now)
CoS- 5 times
PoA- 3 times
GoF- 2 times (Not my favorite one)
OotP- 6 Times
HBP- 15 times (My favotite one by far!)
I love reading the books more then watching the movies, beucase the movies leave lots out and as I read its kinda like a movie playing in my head of the full real version not the movies that left stuff out. But I love the movies alot too!!

I don't keep exact track of how many times I read the books or how many times I watch the movies ... all I know is that I do it quite a lot. Haha. All summer ... all I read is Harry Potter and whenever I'm looking for a movie ... my mind jumps straight to Harry Potter.

im not really sure anymore how many times I've seen the movies, but its got to be at least 5 times each, and I watched them all again in a movie marathon last Friday before going to see OotP on Saturday :]
im rereading all the books too to prepare for this Saturday *does excited dance* even though iv read them all something like 10 times each..i love it though, i keep picking up on little subtleties mentioned and then launching into full blown explanations and ideas whether it'll be inportant in DH!

Hmm well my stats on reading the books are quite easy, I've read the first four once each, and the last two twice. Sounds a bit sad yes, but I was a late starter on the reading of HP, I watched the movies but I really started getting into in when I was in year 12, our final year of school, so I had to make myself wait until the end of the year when I had finished all of my exams to read them. I locked myself in my room for a week and read them all. I am in the process of reading the fifth one again as it's my favourite, and oddly enough, my friend downloaded the audio books, only of the 4th and 5th at the moment but I'm listening to GOF each day as I drive to tafe it's great when you have no time to read!
The movies however are a different story, I have seen them way too many times to count, I mean I've already seen OOTP 3 timesi n the last week so you can imagine my count is well too big to count for the others.
Oddly enough though, I would like to read them all again multiple times but I have a very odd memory, with the exception of multiple direct quotes I can remember everything in a book very well, when I read the last two the second time I didn't discover anything new. That was very helpful for yr 12 english, as my teacher said "I'll be able to tell if you've only read it once!" - Well my guess is she couldn't tell I'd only read them once!

What I do is I read the thing, and then i read bits of it again. It doesn't work for me to go through the whole thing progressively, I end up skipping subconsciously. I always rewatch the films about twice, 'cause you always, always, pick up things that you missed the first couple of times.

yes before a new book comes out i read all the previous ones and when it finally comes i read it twice to clear some points and understand the book better. Then back again i go to read the book i'm fancy at that moment

Jul 27 2007, 06:04 PM
I think I've actually lost count the number of times I've reread each of the books.
I reckon the number of times I've reread HBP is now reaching double figures...
As for Deathly Hallows, I've already started rereading it! I noticed when I was on the forums that there were quite a few details that I missed... I was in such a hurry to get the book finished and find out how it ended, that I rushed through it. So I am now rereading it again.. turns out I missed a lot! I'm only about 1/3 into it though...
I haven't quite rewatched the films as much as I have reread the books. I rewatched a few movies the day before Deathly Hallows came out, I thought I'd get in a really Potterish mood...

Umm...I think that capital letters are not allowed, Hog Literate.*nods* You may get a warning for that. Well, anyways, I have lost count of how many times I have read the books. lol.
Anyways, I guess I have the first two books around twenty times, the third around more than thirty times, fourth one around twenty times, and fifth one around fifteen times, the sixth book around seven times. Alas, I have not yet read the last book but that's going to change very soon.
As for movies, I think every movie thrice I should think. More but not less than that.

I'm gonna get around to it i just have to get them from the library

Haha that's EXACTLY what I do. Every time , before a new book comes out, I read the WHOLE series over again. I know it's a lot of work, but just like you said, you can spot out things that you never noticed before. For example, I read the WHOLE series over again before I read DH, so it took me about a week and I had DH in my possession! Do you know how much willpower it took me not to crack open that book?! Haha a lot, but I still do it anyways!

Yeah, I read all the books or watch all the movies before a new one comes out! I read the books before DH came out, or I wouldn't have been able to keep myself from reading it!

I'm re-reading DH, slowly-not in a day this time!!- then I'm going to start all over again!

Oct 19 2007, 02:48 AM
I too watch all the movies before a new one comes out!
Well, I've read books 1-5 in English and Spanish each, HBP twice, and now I'm re-reading DH, slowly this time (one chapter a day) because, just like Silver Doe, I read it extremelly quick to find out everything as soon as possible! (Also, I didn't want anyone to tell me what happened!)
I'm also reading Philosopher's Stone again, because it's such a beautiful book, and it's easier to carry all around school...
Every time I watch a movie, or re-read a book, I find new details things I missed. I feel like now I pay more attention to things. It's so nice to relive the magic.

I really am that obssesed. I don't read anything but HP. I am forced to re-read, but I don't mind! I'm forever finding things that I missed in previous reads. I've reread all the books loads of times.. most of them having been in the summer just before DH came out (I'd done GCSEs and so was having a long summer... and the weather was pretty awful so I was in the house a lot

) and then ever since I just keep reading them again. I know all the details too well now lol
The films I haven't watched as much, a few times each I guess but my sis is the only one with a video player so I can't watch the first 2 so much (she doesn't like me going in her room... tbh I don't like it much either lol

Witherwings
Oct 19 2007, 10:42 PM
Yeah, it wasn't explained much... But it's just a veil of death I guess, on the other side there's the dead (even if we didn't go in detail about what
exactly is beinhd it), so if you fall through you're dead. It wasn't explained that well... It's a myyysteryyy!!

Ah, this is a discussion in and of itself. But I don't think that conversation quite belongs in this thread. It is more suitable
here, in the Department of Mysteries. Specifically, in the thread for The Veil.

This poses an interesting question. Now that the storyline is completely finished, how has your knowledge of the strings that tie everything together changed your perception of the earlier books? Has it changed at all?

i think it has for all of us. for example when i read the first book i thought harry and hermione were meant for each other but now i know different. or i thought voldy was just being mean to harry but now i know that he was crazy

ok no seriously though now that the series is over i see that i was right about many of the things i thought were likely like lily and snape.

Oct 21 2007, 03:50 AM
I loved finding the little ways so many things were tied together. Like in SS, Hagrid made that "throw away" reference to Sirius when he mentioned borrowing his motorcycle, and then Sirius became a major influence in Harry's life. I also initially expected Harry and Hermione to get together until POA. The books are sprinkled with so many small things that turn out to be important later. Not that I agreed with all of them. There were a lot of things that happened in DH that I was hoping would not happen. (Harry being a horcrux; Snape loving Lily instead of Narcissa, etc.) However, that does not interfere with my love of the series.
I used to try to reread all the books each summer. I pretty much just pull them out whenever I get the urge now. I also love to listen to the audio books. Jim Dale does such a fantastic job reading the books, and it makes it easy to read them if I have work to be done around the house.

I am pleased to see that I am part of a select, if slightly obsesed group.
I have read some of the books as many as 3 times, I used to re-read the previous book before a new one came out, so i could remember exactly where I was up to.
When DH came out I got it the day it came out and read it from cover to cover without speaking to anyone or leaving the house until it was done. I was scared that the ending would be published on the internet or, god forbid, announched on TV!!
Im reading some other books at the moment, but I will go back to reading the series soon
I have seen all of the movies at least 3 times, I have the first 4 on DVD and I am so excited about OOTP comming out on blue-ray ( I have already seen it 3 times at the cinema) POA is may favorite film, I have seen it at least 10 times it is my favorite adaptation so far.
I also have a computer game for each film and I had the quidditch world cup game when that came out as well

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's that obsessed

I always read the whole serie before a new book will be releashed. That's why I've started again with all the books, because DH is almost in stores in my country. Of course I've pre-ordered it

I'm really looking forward to it. Before I went to see the HP 5 movie I've also read the book first, so you know what is left out. It was a great movie!!! I can't wait for it to come out on DVD. I already have 1-4 (duh!

) I have seen HP OOTP 3 times already

I recently bought the hardcovers of the books, so I can read the much more often and they won't get ugly

As soon as I finished reading DH, I had to go back and reread the whole series from page one
(and I'm now in the midst of my second reread of the entire series LOL) I also have to rewatch all the movies before going to see a new one -- it's always interesting to compare the details of the books to the movies, and to see how the plotlines of the movies flow into eachother

Hey to all!
The first time I read the books, I had to read them again because they were so interesting, but not only that, they had so many little details that I would never have thought would be so important later on and in the end, they were!
When I had finished the whole series, I decided to go back and read from the fourth book onwards and I found so many hints and details that ended up making so much sense and made me think:"How blind was I?" But I think that is the beauty of J.K's writing- she knows how to tie things together and the storyline of the whole series was mos definitely well thought out.
I have to add that I am pretty sad that she won't be writing anymore Harry Potter, and its going to feel weird in a few months as I have practically grown up with HP...But she may just surprise us!...I hope..

Im ALWAYS re reading the Harry Potter books! But I don't just read that book, I have to read the whole series from 1-7 all over again!
My recored is once i read the whole series of books 7 TIMES in a row before I decided that maybe it was a bit too much
That was after the seventh book was released tho so I HAD to read the series the whole way through to get the whole story!
But It does help me sooo much to understand the story, before I read the whole series again my brain was puzzled completely but after I read them I got the whole plot even if I didn't like it!

So I read DH in 10 hours, and cried for about two. I would be rereading the entire series now if it wasnt for the fact that i lent them to a friend of mine, that i recently discovered had never read the series. I was appalled and allowed her to borrow my set. I am now massively complaining about it, because i was hoping to be able to go through and reread it, to point out foreshadowing and such.
So in lieu of reading the books, i'm rewatching the movies. I just have to finished GoF, though I'm not a huge fan of them.

whenever i'm bored i just randomly grab a harry potter book and start at a random page. I've read all of them at least twenty times each...they only take me like a day for the shorter one, three days for the longer ones...and when my friends feel the need to make fun of my obbsessiveness they'll start a quote and i can recite like the entire chapter it's from...somehow i can remember all that but i cannot remember what i had for breakfast....hmmmmm

I started not long after the first one came out,but I didn't want to re-read the ones I had before the next came out....if you know what I mean! So I waited until I had them all before startng again.
I finished DH in about a week then started straight at the beginning again.
I am planning on re-reading them,again,after christmas
As for the films......thats a different story!
I have seem them about 4 times each and whenever I get bored I put one of them on....or the special features,I love those!

I've read all the books waaay more times than I can even count. At least 11 times for each of them. (you should see the state of my HP books... they're so tattered from being hauled around in my backpack at school and taken all over the place) I've read those books so many times there's really no point in re-reading them again because I pretty much have them memorized. Except DH. I've only read that three times, but I'm almost done with the fourth go-around ( I've got about 5 chapters left). It's kind of sad really. I watch the movies too much, too. I like the third the best, I could watch it time after time and still laugh at the part when Fred and George give Harry the map, and I always jump when Trelawney tells Harry the prophecy... yep. My mum says I'm not well-read enough because I don't read anything but HP's. oh well... it can't be helped...

Then, the movies...wow that's not even countable! I own them and I watch them a lot, my favorite is Ootp and I think I've already seen it like...15 times (or even more) but I love all of them and I've watched all of them lots of times!

I just started rereading the series again last week, and it's interesting how my perspective has changed now that I know how the series ends. As I was reading the part in SS/PS where Harry is reading his chocolate frog card about Dumbledore, I love how it includes information about Nicolas Flamel that was pertinent within that book, yet it also mentions Grindelwald, who becomes important in the DH. I just love rereading and finding all the little hints Rowling sprinkles throughout the stories that become important later. It's really been too long since I've read the whole series straight through, and I'm enjoying it immensely!
