I was watching Oprah today(I know, I know!)and there wa this lady who worked for this book company and her job was to actually chuck manuscripts of stories in the reject bin.One day she came across this story and decided to read it...
I guess you already know what it was?Anywayz she liked it and took it to her boss and he liked it to.So she phoned numerous publishers to see if they would give the book a chance on the shelves. Many turned her down and she finally reached Bloomsbury and they sounded interested.
She took the story to them and they found it very good, and so from that day on that book and its sequals have been a number one hit amongst the teens and children of the world including some adults!
And that story has been Harry Potter.
I was just wandering what many of you would think if that lady hadn't taken that story to Bloomsbury?Imagine us now if there was no Harry Potter.Probably bored and not talking in the forums!
Hard to think what it would be like if there was
NO boy wizard who have changed many of our lives today!
So tell me what you think!

If HP didn't exist... oh, dear goddess no.
First of all, I would be either sleeping right now, or I would be doing my English homework, which I have decided I'm going to procrastinate on, apparently. I would not be working on my current story right now. It is going to be a HP fanfic, and of course without HP, nothing in that story would even exist. I'm also very interested with all things British right now, and HP played a huge part in that. Had there been no HP, I would probably have some other cultural obsession. I almost always have one of some sort.
And of course we wouldn't be posting on VTM, because it wouldn't even exist...

I agree. What would I do without Harry Potter? I dread to think what would happen if there was no Harry Potter. I know one thing, I wouldnt be reading books or anything because if I never got the first book I would never every have liked reading or considered doing it. I am so glad that bloomsbury published this book and thank you kind lady who took it to bloomsbury. By the way all those other publishers who rejected Harry Potter are plain, blind and stupid. Uh hmm.

If Harry Potter never existed none of us would know the difference. We would NOT be sitting here dwelling on how our life would be better if some one wrote a story about a boy wizard with a scar. I seriously enjoy the books, and movies, (I have been called border lined obsessed) and they have created tons of fun and interesting conversations with friends and family, as well as coming on here. But, I would have found something else to fill my time and not have realized I was missing anything. I am really only on Veritaserum at work so I'd just be surfing the net more.

If there was no such thing as Harry Potter, I think I would feel and empty feeling inside of me, like something should have happened but it didn't. Whenever I feel upset, I read one of the books. And I love the movies! If there was no such thing as Harry Potter, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Tom Felton, etc, might never have become big stars. But Harry Potter has been a destiny ever since Jo Rowling was born.

I really do not know what I would do. I cannot remember life before HP. It must have been really boring though. I do not know what I am going to do whan there is no more HP either. No more pondering about who is going to die next, or who is getting together with who. The characters are like my best friends, when the last book comes out it will be like loosing all my best friends. The only thing that will be left will be the movie releases. But then what happens when they are done?

wow. i just could not imagine.
To tell you the truth, without Harry Potter I probably would never have started to read. After reading SS/PS, I thought "wow, books are pretty cool," and went on to read tons of other books. My 5th grade teacher (yes, long ago) told my class a story of how he started to read. When he was little, he basically refused to pick up a book. His teachr gave him a story about a kid and a rocket ship, so one day when he was bored, he picked it up and began to read. He litereally could not put the book down, and soon enough he had come to the final chapter. He was getting closer and closer to the ending and was so excited to find out what would happen to the boy, when he turned the page to find nothing more. He went into school the next day quite angry at his teacher (you can only imagine). How dare her give him a book with no ending! It was then that she handed him the last page of the book, which she tore from it in the beginning, for him to finish. This is what started him with reading, and to this day he idolized his teacher for putting him throught all of that pain and misery

.
Well, I guess we can say that JK Rowling was my "teacher" from the story above...and I could not imagine life without Harry Potter!

*gasps* I cannot imagine a world without Harry Potter. If there was no HP, I probably wouldn't read at all (I am serious), and I wouldn't like very many movies. Dan, Emma, and Rupert *swoon* wouldn't have so much money, so if I was them, I would thank Jo for 'getting them rich'.
List of differences between my life now, and without HP:
now, for instance, I would be on the couch watching that 70's show.
I would be bored out of my mind
I would turn in my homework
I wouldn't talk about 'nonexistint wizards'
I would exersise
I don't have time to make a full list, but you get the idea,

Well, we can say that if there were no Potter, we'd be reading something else or doing something else. And that's true. But if there were no Potter, I think it's also fair to say ---
- We wouldn't know and/or use a lot of the British expressions we now do.
- There wouldn't likely be any other book we'd be reading or listening to or watching movies for quite as much as Potter.
- We would be spending a lot more time on some other fandom or activity.
- The various benefits that Potter has brought to the world might not exist on nearly the same scale.

If Harry Potter had never existed, I would be bored to tears right now, not been entertained countless times by JKR's humor, never would have gotten into reading, and I wouldn't have gotten into writing either.
And I would have never experienced the feeling of withdrawl. (I think I'm just kidding, but I'm not entirely certain...)

wow. i actually never really thought of what would have happened if harry potter was never invented. lets see.. first of all, i wouldn't have half the stuff i use to annoy my harry-hater friends with, and secondly, i wouldn't have those giant books to read and movies to watch when im bored. i'd have to watch *gasps* other movies! haha. and thirdly, i wouldnt be on this forum right now posting. but like Giannabella said, if harry potter was never introduced, then none of us would know the difference. something else probably would have come out and we'd all probably be obsessed with that.

Oh, if Harry Potter never existed...wow. I would be a miserable goody good girl who never breaks any rules and has a boring everything-revolves-around-work attitude. I'd be the weird-quiet-girl-who-does-pointless-thing-that-nobody-notices-or-cares-about kind of person. I'd be doing pointless things and would be sulking over pointless things in my little spare time, the rest of the time which I do my homework filled with stress because i have nothing to keep my mind off it or any thing to look forward to doing.
Harry has totally changed my life, I now know the meanings of friendship and how it's not always good to stay quiet all the time. Because of Harry, I have a life. I know who my friends are and how much they mean to me. I have actually become smarter due to Harry Potter books and movie, odd isn't it? Some people say I'm just crazy, but I don't care what people think anymore. I love Harry Potter and my life with it.
It's so good that Harry Potter exists. It's taught me loads more than most of the other books I have read, and that is saying something cos I've read a bunch of books. I wouldn't be on VTM and I'd be doing something silly like I dunno.
Ahh, well...a little too dramatic for me I'd say. But it's true. Of course, life goes on and I'd probably learn all those things later in life so, hey, whatever. But I'm glad Harry exists. You know, that's the first time I've ever heard of Dan, Rupert and Emma so cooly.
Thanx for putting up this thread. It's great! Long live the magic!

Although I think I'm borderline obsessive (ok,
actually obsessive), I'd still enjoy the things I like, even without Harry Potter. The thing is, I really enjoy history, mythology, geneaology, Latin, and fantasy fiction, and never have I come across something that really encompasses all of these things in an interesting and brilliant format. The really sad thing is, that if there were no HP, Jo would still be poor and not have the credit for her amazing writing and researching talents.
We of course, would have to get on with our more mundane lives.

I thought about this loads of times before..what if we wouldn't know about Harry Potter? A lot of people say: well, then we just wouldn't know about it, that's all.
Yeah, we wouldn't be sad or anything, life would be good. But Harry Potter changed the world a lot. Kids start reading again, they like it. And for example, they wouldn't've made the films, so Dan Radcliffe wouldn't be famous and in the position of asking people to donate money to Demelza House. So the kids wouldn't get that money they get now. Same thing with all the other stuff, like auctions and the upcoming reading with JKR. There would be readings like this, yeah, but the fact that JKR's attending I think makes even more people wanting to go there and give their money. So, it didn't just change the lives of the actors and actresses, or of Jo herself, or of ourselves, the readers. It changes people's lives, who maybe don't even read Harry Potter, or maybe don't even like it. Harry Potter had a huge impact all around the world, and that's why I really don't want to imagine what it would be like if that woman would've thrown it away. Iagh! lol And it keeps ME from being bored lots of times
Hope my English wasn't too bad

Jul 30 2006, 03:54 PM
Lol, I didn't spot a mistake in your English. Well..you are absolutely right, but I think most people just think what would it be like for them if Harry Potter never existed rather than looking at the bigger picture. Without Harry Potter, the world probably would have suffered worse than what it does now, or individuals anyway.

hmmm, life without harry potter...well it probably would be the same except for the bookshelf in my room, the poster, the GoF DVD, the continuous playing of the GoF video game (until i finally finished the whole game), and well my membership on here! haha, yeah harry potter got me into reading, so now i look forward to going to the library. and i would be so excited each time i see something harry potter related.
so yeah, id pretty much get on with my life, except it wouldnt be as awesome as it is now!

Jul 30 2006, 05:30 PM
Oops yeah you're probably right

well but why not looking on the bigger impact of HP?

Anyway, now when I imagine what it would be like just for me..whoa it really changed my life a lot..just because of the Harry Potter books and films, I started loving Great Britain..the country, the language (well, I got really into it because of HP, I liked it before), the people, the way of living, the houses..just everything! Now I want to study English and later live in England..I really can't imagine what my life would be like without Harry Potter...I probably wouldn't know what to do after school, where to go and all..whoa yeah Harry Potter's definitely important for my whole life

Go Harry Potter!!

If there was no Harry Potter...oh,I'm gonna start crying. It would be the end of the world. Before I had nothing to look foward to.I would seriously be even more depressed.Thank God for that extremely nice lady who got it to several publishers. And to those who rejected them...shame on you. They probably feel stupid now.Serves them right.

Wow, great topic! I couldn't really picture my life without Harry Potter, it plays such a huge part in every single thing I do. It really has influenced who I am. I suppose without it I would have better grades (even though they're pretty good now). But I think I would be much more sad, lonely even. Harry Potter obsession as basically lead me through my childhood, and it made me what I am. I think I probably wouldn't have as many friends, because it's mys usual conversation starter

, And I think I would definately be a whole lot more bored!

Well, if im honest when HP first came out i was like "what a load of rubbish" and my bro won a set of the books up to GoF and he gave them to me to be put on my bookshelf. A couple of months ago i thought "ah might aswell try them out" and was hooked! they're so good! so i rushed out and bought the last 2 and have read them all in the space of about 2 months. I saw the chamber of secrets and GoF films.... i want to see the rest now!!!
So, in answer to your question, i would have re read all the books that i have read already!

Aug 4 2006, 03:54 AM
Well, the conclusion is very depressing...

I would probably not be as much of a reader as I am today. The Harry Potter books were the first books that got me hooked on reading long books. Without them, I would probably not be much of a reader at all. They got me re-reading them time and time again. They introduced me to other books too, and for a long time, I have been trying to solve the mysteries of the final book!
I also usually discuss the books and theories with my close friends who are just as obsessed as I am. Actually, that friend got me interested in all of the books. Well anyway, if Harry Potter was non-existant I would not be typing this up right now!

If there wasn't Harry Potter I'd probably feel quite normal, cause I wouldn't know that I miss the most beautifull series of book ever. If there was HP and I didn't read it then it'd be the same situation like this described two lines above. but if HP suddenly dissapeared from the World right now, then I wouldn't know what to do with myself. Nothing can replace HP's place in my heart!

I probably would read far less - they really were the books that got me into reading. Also, its thanks to JK Rowling and Harry Potter that i am interested in writing. Her stories have inspired me to want to write and as a result i have become more creative and my writing has really improved. Harry Potter truely is a once in a gneration kind of phenomenom.

if harry potter didn't exist i would be following other fads or interesting things that have came out such a pirate of the carribean, stephen king, the OC, CSI and so on, or i would have more time to do other things that i enjoys such as skateboarding, science... but my life before i became a huge fan of harry potter ( i became a fan a few years after book 4 came out) and the life i live now did not change significantly, though i haven't met many ppl that are also hp fans, cuz almost all my friends are fans of things like the OC, lotr ect. harry potter series are still books that've influenced my reading and writing styles most.
i would also like to point out that it was the daughter of the person from bloosbury what insisted that harry potter is a really good story and told her father to publish it.

(Whatever normal is for you). Because we would have no reckalection that there was something like Harry Potter.. so we would miss it or anything becuase it would have never existed. Right?

Hey guys!Yip...Most people would say that if harry potter didn't exist, there lives would be over and all that. But I think the only reason one would say that is because we have gotten so used to it and we have basically grown up with it and the mistery and magic.
I don't think we would be so "sad" if the harry potter series only lasted for a year or two.But growing up with it and really anticipating the next hilarious scene from fred and george or the really uncomfortable moments between ron and hermione, has made us want to see things like that and we have almost grown up with the trio and they seem like our friends!

But I would also think that if harry potter didn't exist, there wouldn't be many things that I would be interested in...I wouldn't be on here for one thing

'What If There Was No Hp?' Interesting question...
Well...
This site would not exsit so you wouldn't be asking such a hard question
but really if HP NEVER exsisted then it would effect everyone in different ways, for me my own stories would not exsit because it was J.K that inspired me to do so, Snape would not be my dad (long story but to cut in very short...me, my cousin and my sister gave each other a HP charter dad...they chose Snape for me!

oh wait I get it...

I good not imagine a world without Harry.
First of all this forum and website would not exsist, shock Horror.
Secondly, i would not have any imagination, and i would lose my personality.
Thirdly, the only show or film to sustain me would be Torchwood.
Though it's great i need Harry as well.
