I have noticed (on one thread, unparticular) that there are spoilers present. Since this forum is for Harry Potter in general, it is very possible that some forum members who are browsing topics may not have read all five of the books yet in their entirety.

Thus, I would request as a Moderator of this forum (with the permission of an Administrator) that any threads that contain or might possibly contain spoilers be marked with a warning, such as SPOILER: Book # or POSSIBLE SPOILERS: Book # in the title or Topic Description.

This way people that have not read a certain book yet will not have it ruined for them by accidentally going into a thread that gives parts away. I know how it feels to find out something vital before you read it.

If you have any questions about this, feel free to post a reply and we'll be glad to help you!

If you spot a particularly 'dangerous' post, please, report it to me or another moderator and we will check it out and edit the title if necessary smile.gif.

Why haven't you read books four and five yet? They've been out all over the world for over a year now, several years in GoF's case. Instead of re-reading the other three, why don't you read the new ones? If they're hard to get hold of, couldn't you borrow them from a friend or the library or something?

The thing is that us mods do our best to keep things controlled, but at the end of the day, the vast majority of people have read all the books by now and especially as the last book has been out for such a long time, it's kind of assumed that everyone participating in forums would know about the plots at least, even if they haven't actually read them yet.

To be honest, at this stage, with the HBP probably on the verge of being announced, there's not really much that we can do about spoilers now. It would be like trying to plug the hole in the Titanic with a wine cork, you know? It's virtually impossible.

Even if you avoid the main areas that are likely to contain spoilers, such as the books six and seven discussions, you're still likely to come across something in someone's signature or avatar that's going to spoil something.

HP is just everywhere now...even major spoilers such as certain events in OotP have been all over the newspapers. It really is a losing battle, I'm afraid....the only way to avoid it completely is to avoid the internet and the media like the plague, and even then, there's liable to be something mentioned somewhere that's going to spoil it for you.

BTW, I really hope you just typed in asterisks there and the sensors didn't pick up any actual obscenities that you may have used, because I wouldn't be a very happy little bunny to find out you're been swearing....

Yeah, most people have read the books by now and with HBP coming out soon, I think it's pretty reasonable to expect people to have completed OotP. Even so, until HBP comes out, I still think people should be aware of it.

Perhaps this is a timely reminder that, with HBP coming out very soon, that everyone will be reading it at different paces and it's not even being released at the same time all over the world.

There will be a separate forum for HBP discussion soon, but when it does come out, I would very much appreciate it if people could be VERY aware of spoilers in anything they post - especially in topic titles. Spoiler warnings will be put on the forum header, but even so, spoilers should still be included in the threads themselves.

This goes doubly for character deaths - I'm sure I won't be the only one who goes ballistic if I see...'OMG! Snape dies!!' in a topic heading... wink.gif For several reasons.... tongue.gif
