I hope you don't mind I place one here...

This is is a phrase I found...

"Im sure you'll dazzle us with hitherto unsuspected magical skills"...

I hope it is a good one...

If you find it hard, I will begin to give you clues...

Ever~
passerby
Wow, I haven't checked this thread out in a while. . .so I'll take a guess on this and carry on my tradition of being wrong. tongue.gif

My guess is that it is Umbridge in Order. Though, she wasn't into the whole actually "using magic" thing, so that's probably not right.

It also sounds Snapish, but I can't think where he would have said that. Oh, maybe in HBP in one of the Defense classes. Ooh, that's my better guess. Snape, in the classroom, with the dictionary.

Pixymajik
That's Fred to Ron in HBP I think? He's going on about showing what he can do when he turns 17 and Fred- as usual- is mocking him.
Everseer
Just as Pixymajik says us, it's Fred to Ron...

After that, Ron throws him a knife at the same time his mother is arriving...

Also, Fred transforms the knife into a paper airplane wiht a lazy wand-movement...

Seems like it's turn ot Pixymajik to put a quote...

Ever~
passerby
You know what's funny and ironic in an irritating sort of way-I just settled down with my copy of HBP to read a bit of it before sleep, and I come accross this exact quote by Fred antagonizing Ron. . .and so I pop on here to ammend my aforementioned wrong guess . . . and PIXY BEATS ME AGAIN! laugh.gif Maybe if I'd tried to go to bed earlier. . .heheh. Ah well.
Pixymajik
Sorry passerby smile.gif Have a go at this one:

"You really are a natural!"
passerby
Hehe, no need to be sorry!

All right, here's a guess at this one which is, true to my form, probably totally wrong!

I'm guessing that it's Slughorn in HBP to Harry about his potion ability (thanks to the HBP.)

Drat, wait.

It could also be Hermione in SS to Harry about his flying. Or Mcgonagall.

You see? This is why I never get them. I'm afraid to commit!
NickHilton
Or perhaps...

Lupin to Harry is POA, when he is learning the Patronus Charm, but i think it's the Slughorn quote, to be honest.

Just my opinion. I may well be wrong.
Allie
Okay, this is my first time trying at this game, so let's hope I don't make too big a fool of myself....happy.gif

My guess is Wood to Harry in reference to his flying abilities in SS... "McGonagall was right -- you really are a natural" or something along those lines, if I'm remembering correctly.
Hallia
I'm with Allie on this one, I'd say it's Wood when he sees Harry flying for the first time. And sorry for not posting when it was my turn, I'd totally forgotten it. Sooo sorry mates sad.gif
Pixymajik
Allie's right smile.gif

It's a SS/PS quote from Wood about Harry's flying abilities smile.gif

You're up!
Allie
I apologize in advance if I use a repeat quote -- this thread is a monster to re-read! I've spot-checked, though, and I'm pretty sure it's all good.... smile.gif

"Exactly the attitude I want."
passerby
Okay, get ready to tell me I'm wrong!

My guess is Angelina Johnson in her first speech as Captain. I guess it would be in Order, since they didn't play Quidditch in GoF.

Sigh. . .I'm so disappointed in myself for missing that Wood quote.

Allie. . .if that's making a fool of yourself, then what the heck am I ever doing in this thread??! I've given up on ever being right! (I'm ashamed to call myself a Potter fan!) tongue.gif
Allie
QUOTE (passerby @ May 02, 2006 10:24 pm)
I've given up on ever being right!

Arrrrgh, you spoke too soon! You got it -- it is indeed Angelina to Harry and the Gryffindor Quidditch team at the first practice in OotP. biggrin.gif You're up!
passerby
<picking myself up off of the floor> Oh, sorry, I fainted there for a moment. I actually got one!! Will wonders never cease??

Here's the next one:

"A badger."

Best of luck to you all. . .I tried for ambiguous, but probably bordered on easiest ever.

Just the Droobles
Well, I tried to think badgers, but the only place I could recall was in the Duelling Club in CoS when someone accidentally was turned into a badger. But I don't know if they actually say "A badger" in that scene because I don't have my book nearby. So I guess I'm done then. smile.gif
El Barto
Is it when Voldemort was talking to Hepzibah Smith about the goblet she had? It was one of Helga Hufflepuff's, whose house's mascot is a badger...right? She showed it to him and she was about to say what was on it but he said before she could finish "a badger".
passerby
Yep, El Barto. . .you've hit the badger with the shovel. Er, the nail on the head. It is indeed Tom Riddle. aka Voldemort, while he was talking to Hepzibah about hte goblet. Poor woman, never should have shown him those trinkets, huh?

Anyways, you're up!! Make it a decently easy, oh I mean hard one!

El Barto
Whoa! Thanks! And yeah, I don't think it was a good idea to show him, afterall, he worked for Borgin and Burke so you'd figure that he'd be interested in them for monetary issues at least.

Anywho, this is part of a quote, because if I give the entire thing it will give it away...

"Wow... look at that... he's not here now!"

Good luck, and I don't think its really hard smile.gif
passerby
And. . .back to being totally wrong for me!

My guess is that it is, er, Harry? In Sorcerer's Stone about Dumbledore being gone. Or maybe in HBP about Dumbledore being gone again. . .or, well. . .I just don't know.

*hangs head in Potter shame*
El Barto
Nope, it wasn't from that part in Sorcerer's Stone...you're talking about when they go to tell Dumbledore something and McGonnagal tells them that he's gone right? I wonder why it would have been difficult to get him if she could have gone to the forest or Hogsmeade and apparated away to get him...unless she didn't want to do a couple kids a favor...

And no, its not from that part in HBP sad.gif

Should I give a clue?
Just the Droobles
My guess is Sorceror's Stone when Harry has Dumbledore's chocolate frog and he's sitting there one minute and he looks back and *pooF* he's gone. Well, you can't expect them to stay around all day. But I think I just might be wrong. wink.gif
El Barto
You guys are right in saying that its Harry, I can tell you that much...do you want me to give clues? blink.gif

No, Just The Droobles, thats wrong too sad.gif
Hermione 14
Whoa I havent replied in this thread in a while, but... is it Harry in HBP in Diagon Alley, talking to the Malfoys in the robe shop. It was like 'One day Dumbledore wont be there to protect you' and then Harry comes back with hes not here now...

-kelly
NickHilton
He's not in mourning saying that, so i'm guessing its more trivial.... or not. I actually think it's in Ootp at the MoM, when Voldemorts duelling with Dumbledore and then he disapparates....

I'm probably wrong.... blink.gif biggrin.gif
El Barto
Nick, you're almost right. It is in the same scene and chapter, you just have it at the wrong part of that chapter.

I probably just gave it away... biggrin.gif
passerby
So then, my next guess is that it's Harry to Lucius Malfoy. . . I don't know if he's referencing Dumbledore there-I thought he was talking about Voldemort as the "he's not here now" guy. I suppose he could have been talking to Bellatrix . . . and then she screams at him for having the audacity to use Voldemort's name.

Do you see? I never get them because I can't commit! Don't tell my husband about this little commitmentphobia of mine.
NickHilton
Ummm...i thought it might be when he was taunting Bella about smashing the prophecy, but the bit i don't get is the Wow! bit....ummmm....perhaps it's Harry to Lupin right at the begginning after Sirius falls through the veil.....damned drapery! biggrin.gif
El Barto
Whoa! You guys have it right, but in the wrong order (if that makes sense)...its like you both have the pieces but you aren't connecting them.

It is Harry talking about Voldemort to Bellatrix...but where and when?

You're really close...
Pixymajik
blink.gif You guys have confused me--- I thought it was Harry to Narcissa in HBP. He's talking about Dumbledore and she makes a comment about him being Dumbledore's favourite and that he won't always be there to protect him?? wacko.gif

---- which is what Hermione 14 said before--- unless it says this in two places??
Just the Droobles
OK...I went through those two chapters like, three times and didn't see the word "Wow" once. I am curious to know what this is because it doesn't appear to be in my book. And you've pretty much lost me on this anyway.
El Barto
You sure? blink.gif

Harry is chasing Bellatrix and she's telling him about having to mean the unforgiveable curses...then she says something about Voldemort and Harry says

"Wow...look at that...he's not here now"

Isn't in the chapter "The Only One He Ever Feared"?

If it isn't I'm sorry blink.gif
Either way, if its wrong or right, who would take the next one?
Pixymajik
Half Blood Prince- pg 111 (Draco's Detour)---

Narcissa Malfoy smiled unpleasantly. "I see that being Dumbledore's favourite has given you a false sense of security, Harry Potter. But Dumbledore won't always be there to protect you."

Harry looked mockingly all around the shop. "Wow... look at that... he's not here now! So why not have a go? They might be able to find you a double cell in Azkaban with your loser of a husband!"

-EDITED- Chris: Harry says to Bellatrix something about Voldemort not being able to hear her, and then he turns up and says something like 'can't i?', but there's nothing there similiar to what I posted above??
El Barto
...you proved me wrong...now you see why I don't go into these quizzes laugh.gif I always mess up or something... sad.gif

You're right Pixymagik, does the next one go to you then? I'll prove myself next time.

I'm really sorry everyone, it was my mistake. Feel free to PM telling me what a fool I am...if thats what must be done mellow.gif

EDIT: Hermione 14 was the first to guess it correctly!
Pixymajik
Don't sweat it Chris- it's all good smile.gif

I got confused because I came in here and Hermione 14 had posted what I thought it was. So I waited for a new one and people kept discussing it and so I thought.... HUH?!?!?!

So if Hermione 14 is around---- she's up wink.gif
passerby
Not that I'm glad you're wrong, or anything, Christ, but BOY am I glad you're wrong! laugh.gif I was beginning to question my ability to read! Like Droobles, I went and read all of the parts where Harry spoke to Bellatrix, and I was totally befuddled. I'm glad we've got Pixy-the quote queen-to straighten us all out!

Just the Droobles
Oh, thank goodness!! I really did think I was completely missing it! I was just waiting for the response to come so I would have to put my foot in my mouth. rolleyes.gif Hey, and no hard feelings on you, Chris. We all make mistakes. But hey!! At least you gave us a good hard one!! laugh.gif

Waiting for Hermione14 whistling.gif
Hermione 14
I'm so sorry for taking so long wiwth this guys..Ive been so busy with school work and softball, its pretty crazy..and I thought that I had gotten it wrong last time I looked..but anyways...for a new quote..

QUOTE
Bring them in.

Good Luck! smile.gif

Kelly
karsh05
OK, well, I'm really busy at the moment, so I'm not going to go get my book (proof that im already wrong! laugh.gif ) and just take a whack at what I think it is:

Is it possibly in HPGOF right before the first task, and Dumbledore says to the dragon keepers to "bring them in"??

just my wild and out there trying to make sense but not working very well just like in everyday life whack at it!!

ta,

-karsh-
Hermione 14
Nope, sorry Karsh, it isnt Dumbledore. Although you do have the right book smile.gif.

Keep Guessing!!

Kelly
Just the Droobles
Aha!!

I found it!! Granted, I looked through like half the book, but I got it!!

Crouch Senior says it at the trial for Bellatrix, Crouch Jr, and Bellatrix's hubby. It is his order to bring the three of them into the room, and the dementors drag them in. Page 594!!

WOO!!! laugh.gif
Hermione 14
Of course, youre right, I mean page number and everything, wow smile.gif. You're up, give us a good one.

kelly
Just the Droobles
Cool!

I'll make my second one a bit harder...Hmmm.....
Ah, well, I don't know how hard it will be, but here you are:

"I'll be careful not to slip in it."

Well, good luck. I don't think it should be too difficult. smile.gif
passerby
And another chance to be totally wrong! Woohoo! My first guess is that it's Ron in, um, PoA during a Magical Creatures class when Hagrid introduced them to Flobberworms. I think. I don't know why he wouldn't want to slip in it, though. Hence the me being wrong part.
Pixymajik
AHHH! I know this one smile.gif

That's Harry in HBP. The comment about 'alot of Phlegm' being around and Harry jokes that he'll try not to step in it smile.gif

Good one Aubrey!
Just the Droobles
NO NO NO!!!! You're all wrong!!

Just kidding.

Pixy, you got it right, despite my efforts to attempt to give a toughy. *sigh.* I fail!! eeek.gif
Ok, well, Pixy, give us all a good one, and don't be as corny as I am! laugh.gif
Pixymajik
Thanks mate smile.gif Yours was a good one- I liked that quote smile.gif

Here's a new one- hopefully at least a little tricky.

"Well you haven't finished it"
NickHilton
I think it's Hermione or Dumbledore....probably Hermione talking about some sort of homework...or Ron talking about food, no my vote is for Hermione in Order of the Phoenix telling Ron and Harry to do their homework, they say why, and she says because you haven't finished it.

I'm almost sure i'm worng,
Nick
Pixymajik
Sorry to say you ARE wrong Nick smile.gif

It's not Hermione.

I'll wait a little longer before I post up any clues wink.gif
Capricorn
Is it Harry to Tom Riddle in the Chamber of Secrets talking about the Muggleborns and the potion? The chapter is The Heir of Slytherin
