Copied straight from the original, since it was up to 52 pages and getting on in years
The Rules: First person posts a quotation from book, next person guesses who said it. If he or she is sure of answer, then she/he is allowed to post another quotation. If a person is not sure, then he/she must wait for the confirmation.
The Current Quote:
QUOTE
What are Heliopaths?
Jordan
Jan 11 2006, 01:45 AM
Aha! I have it! The person who said "Who are Heliopaths?" is the one and only... Neville! He says it to Luna in OotP

*crossesfingers* I'm positive.
Ah... such a simple quotation yet so complex at the same time. *speculates*. Anyway, I'm 100% positive got it right. I have absolutely no doubt in my mind, however, I would hate to be embarrassed because it was someone entirely different. I'm sure though because I was reading that chapter in OotP when I stumbled upon this thread... Hmm.. strangely coincidental...

(Great idea by the way. I guess I'm a bit late since there was an older thread which was 52 pages long...

But nevertheless, kudos!)

ROFL! Thanks for the 'kudos'
You HAVE got it right of course- I was hoping it might have been a LITTLE tricky, but I figured that someone would know that it had been said to Luna, but not know who it was;)
Anyways-- you're up

Hiya Kelly! Yes you are correct! It was said by Dolores Umbride in OotP. Though not to Hagrid... She said it to Professor McGonagall after
her inspection.

I can count that though... I think... Afterall you have to guess who said it rather than to who it was said...

Good job. I suppose you're up next! Good luck!

Hmmm... That's a toughie!

There are multiple "Oh dont's" That I could think of in Jo's series. Though judging by the italics on the
don't I can gather that whoever said it was trying to emphasize the end. The only person who I can think of who said that would be noneother than Hermione. Hmmm.... I'm not sure, so I'm waiting for confirmation, Kelly.

Hehe, anyway, yeah, it does sound Hermione. Is it in the sixth book when she takes away the frizbee from a first year or something, and then Ron starts playing with it, and she becomes frustrated?

I agree that it sounds like Hermione, but I think it was her while Peeves was telling Moaning Myrtle about what they said about her. I don't have my SS book, so I can't confirm!

Hmm… Not Hermione, huh? Sure is a toughie! You deluded us all!

Well, I’m sort of guessing it is the female of the species talking. Though, since Hermione is out of the picture, I would have to say Ginny. To tell you to who she’s saying it to, I have absolutely no clue. I could guess that she’s directing her dialogue towards Harry, but I’m not at all sure…

Hope that’s right…
If not then I’ll just keep on guessing!

Great way to stump us all! See you later, mate.

yes, it is Ginny though not to Harry..to Fred and George in CoS, when there talking about asking Harry about who his next victim is because he is the "Heir of Slytherin"..so you've got it right about the speaker so its your turn now!! give us a good one

But hey, look on the bright side! It’ll give other readers a chance to share their thoughts on who they think it is!

Is it Kreacher talking about Harry in either OotP or even in HBP? Sounds like something kreacherish to me as he was always mumbling insults about those in his mistress' house.

Jan 13 2006, 07:19 PM
I think it's definitely Kreacher in OotP. It sounds like one of his mutterings when he's speaking his mind pretending that nobody can hear him.
He may be talking about Ron Weasly, a pureblood who is defending a Mudblood (Hermione) ...
You want the page too? ... sorry, I don't have the books here. I I had, I could look it up! Because I'm not sure that it is about Ron, it could be about Sirius as well.
Looooony Luna
Jan 13 2006, 09:10 PM
yeah its from kreacher but i think it was to the weasly twins..
somethings telling me its to them..
Hallia
Jan 13 2006, 10:04 PM
I'm absolutely sure it's Kreacher, as all of you, and also almost positive it is said to one of the Weasley boys, probably Ron, like Albus said. I think it is when they're cleaning the drawing room and Kreacher enters to avoid them getting rid of the Black tapestry.
Astraea
Jan 14 2006, 04:48 PM
Why are you pondering over it so long?
It goes like this (I think):
QUOTE
'Kreacher did not see young master,' he said, turning around and bowing to Fred. Still lacing the carpet, he added, perfectly audibly, 'Nasty little brat of a blood traitor it is.'
'Sorry?' said George. 'Didn't catch that last bit.'
'Kreacher said nothing,' said the elf, with a second bow to George, adding in a clear undertone, 'and there its twin, unnataral little beasts they are.' |
I hate the elf! HATE hate hate hate!

Anywho, you all are right on the money! Yay! The quote was:
QUOTE (Kreacher @ Page 108, OotP)
'Nasty little brat of a blood traitor it is.'
You were all correct, however, the first to get it right was
passerby. I'm still a little shaky with the rules of this game so forgive me. (If someone has it but needs confirmation, and someone after after definately knows it... who gets to go?) I'm guessing it's passer but forgive me if I'm wrong. So until then, Passer, it's your turn mate!

However I'll still have a go. My first bid is on Neville. I don't know why, it just seems to me like he would be the one to say something like that... Of course there are plenty of other possibilities, though, Neville is the first which comes to mind. I'm waiting for confirmation...

Gosh, this is a tough one ...
Is it Ron in GoF, when he and Harry are impersonating Crabbe and Goyle and trying to act like them, when they are talking to Draco in the Slytherin Common Room?
Pixymajik
Jan 15 2006, 11:52 PM
I'm going to go with Harry in POA. He says it to Lupin after he offers him Butterbeer. Lupin looks suprised and Harry lies and says that Ron and Hermione had brought him back some previously (because he had snuck out of Hogwarts)
passerby
Jan 16 2006, 12:35 AM
Nope, Nope and Yep.

Just when I thought I'd picked a tough one. . . I'm no match for you HP wizards. . .heh.
It is indeed Harry in PoA after Lupin offers him a reward of Butterbeer for doing so well with his patronus charm practice. . .

There are some that I seem to just KNOW and then others that have me stumped for aaaaages. It's odd
A relatively easy one I think---
"All the subjects required, in short, for an Auror"
Hallia
Jan 16 2006, 10:26 AM
oh, oh... I think I kbnow this one. That's Snape in HBP when they're at Slughorn's Christmas party and Slughorn(I think) asks Harry what subjects he is taking apart fr4om potions, and Harry tells him and then Snape says that quote, and Harry says something like "Yes, that's what I want to be".
Bumblebee
Jan 16 2006, 10:29 AM
I think it's in OotP, said by Dolores Umbridge while she sits in as Hogwarts Inquisitor during Harry's career counselling session with Professor McGonagall.
passerby
Jan 16 2006, 06:58 PM
Or maybe it's McGonagall herself when she's having that "what-do-you-want-to-be-when-you-grow-up" conference with Harry and maybe she hands him the list of classes that he will need. . .in OotP.
Jordan
Jan 16 2006, 07:16 PM
Hmm.. I have to say, that I agree completely with Passer. McGonagall seems to have said that. I doubt that Umbridge would be giving
advice to Harry. (I don't remember her doing so...

. It would be a bit odd, huh?)
So, that's my final guess. Nobody else springs to mind...
Happy.... Answering?

Could it be Harry recounting one of his -- for lack of a better word -- "adventures"? I really cannot place this quote with a particular person, but if you say its a bragger, I can only think of Lockhart, Draco, and Harry.....
_daviD
Jordan
Jan 25 2006, 12:08 AM
It’s Ron right? I am almost positive that it is him. (Taking into consideration that Draco and Locke are out of the picture.) I would have guessed Harry as well, but, he has enough attention all around – why brag…? (I always had the feeling that Ron would be the one bragging about doing something… so he could have some of the
limelight.
Hmm.. my final guess is Ron. I’m trying to find the full quote for confirmation. Gof is the first book I’m guessing on because that’s where Ron is somewhat distant with Harry…
And don’t worry! Making the quotes hard is part of the fun!

EDIT: Whew! I found it. I was correct, it is infact Ron who says it.
QUOTE (Ron @ GoF, Chapter 27)
''But I had my wand hidden up my sleeve,' he assured Padma Patil, who seemed to be a lot keener on Ron now that he was getting so much attention, and was making a point of talking to him every time they passed in the corridors. 'I could've taken those mer-idiots any time I wanted.''

Wow...I actually know this. It's Ron, like Phoenix2Fire said, but it's him boasting to Padma Patil (and his followers) about the second task when he was taken captive of the Merpeople, and Harry had to rescue him. No one knew that Ron wasn't really in danger, so he just made that up for publicity. Ach..Ron...
