Okie doke, we've all read the books (well most of us anyway!) and we've seen what great spells and words and names J.K.Rowling has created. But, now I ask you HP Fans, what is your favourite word in the Wizarding world? It could be the name of a place, a spell, a creature or even the name of a particular wizard, but what is your favourite and why?
I'll start us off, my favourite word would be: Firewhisky, I don't know why it just seems to have a warm feeling to it

. So, what're yours?
Happy posting,

OOOoooh, nice topic, dragonmeter!!
I really cannot even begin to think what my favorite wizarding word is...i guess I would have to say -- hmmmmmm -- "
Avada Kedavra"!
Yeah, its the Killing Curse, but it still sounds really cool! i love saying it to my friends when they start to annoy me, at which point they immediately stop, stare at me like I have 100 heads, and say "you're joking, right?"

fun
There are plenty of other words, but too many to think of off the top of my head!

to carry on in the evil curses theme I kinda like the word cruciatus. However, because Iam a big fan of Neville I can't bring myself to put that as my favorite word as it was used against his parents. Therefore my favorite word has got to be Dobby

This isn't really a magic word, and actually it's two words, but for some reason "jiggery pokery" from CoS struck me as extremely hilarious. I dunno, maybe I was sleep deprived the day I read it or something. Hmm, a magic word though? I like Tarantallegra. That's a fun one to say. And I actually think it's outcome is kind of comical.

Hmmmm? Favorite Wizarding word? I would have to say,
Expelliarmus(spelling?). Anyway, I just love how that word sounds, especially when you say it slowly.

Well, I have a few. I used to like the word "quidditch", but it doesn't strike me as much as it used to. i really like Imperio. I also like Accio. Sometimes, when my pen or pencil falls off my desk, I say "Accio pen!" just for the heck of it.

My favorite has to be bubotuber, it just sounds fun and gross at the same time. Yellowish pus that causes pimples and smells like petrol. That's a ghast!!!
Expelleramis has to be my second favorite only because me neice (age 5) runs around with the HP wand I bought her yelling it and pointing the wand at people. SSSSSOOOOOOOO adorable!!!!!!!!

My favorite wizarding word is actually a place...Diagon Alley. Not only do I like the name of it but the idea of it--shops selling magical supplies and items would just be wonderful. I wish it really did exist!

I have many wizarding words. First, it's the word
muggle. I like it because they have a particular term on the non- muggle humans and they're not calling them, "non-magical" humans but instead they call it "muggle" and it's cute because you will have to ask,
"Hey, what do you mean when you say Muggle?". And I actually adapted the word.
Then next would be the word
Accio. I find it so cute and it's used the appropiate word for the lazy ones... like me...
And of course,
Quidditch. If you're not a Harry Potter fan, you'll find this word weird and if you find out that it's actually a sport, you'll immediately ask how to play this one.
Pygmy Puffs is also cute. You could replace it for the word
teddy bear

Haha, wow glad to see what some people's favourite magic words are. By looking at the posts it looks as though Sectumsempra would have to be one of the favourites, even though it is quite a horrific curse.
I have to say I also like the name of the famous Wizarding band the Weird Sisters. The name is incredibly simple yet still hilariously funny

.

Well it is a good word

. The fact that is a horrible curse has nothing to do with this . And you know if you think better , this spell was invented so in the end is a great spell to , horrible , but great . And actually sounds good

I love the word "Muggle"! I love to say it, and it seems like the perfect word for us. I am proud to be a Muggle too... I think. Muggles rock!
I also like the name Hermione. I could say that all day, just letting it roll of my toungue smoothly. Her-mi-o-ne...

Id have to agree that Sectumsempra is a rocking spell...it just flows. but i dont know if its my favourite word...Golden Snitch might be one! and i love the Expecto Petronum spell....in other words, there are quite a few rocking words that JKR has made, or adapted.

my favourite word has got to be "voldemort"...it just sounds so evil and cruel but its the most uncommon name i have ever heard of and its creepy. it so suits the character and is a wonderful name.
sectumsempra is also a wonderful word although the spell is freaky

For some reason, I like "protego." Can't really think why that in particular. I've just always liked the sound of it.
And "jiggery pokery" --- yeah, that's pretty funny too.

Sectumsempra is so beautiful to me, though everyone else seems to think so too...
I think that Alohomora, which unlocks doors, is a pretty word too. Wingardium Leviosa is fun to say, mostly because it's fun to imitate Hermione: "It's Levi-O-sa, not lev-i-o-SAH!"
I also find the word Kneazle rather amusing, but I have no good explanation as to why.

i love the word sectumsempra and both the words wingardium leviosa.. =] i've always thought the word muggle is beautiful.. and i guess the word expecto patronum kinda stuck onto me. =]
i also love the word alohomora .. such a cool spell! =] accio is another one of my favourites! i have a lot of favourite wizarding words.. =] but i guess.. nothing can beat my all-time favourtie word, quidditch .. =]

I don't know. I think I live 'Sectumsempra'. There's something nice about that. I think's it's a cool word, but the spell's a bit harsh.

Jan 18 2006, 08:28 AM
Personally, I'm partial to 'Veritaserum'

For starters- I think that's a word that just rolls- especially if you can do what I can't and roll the 'r'
Secondly- I like the concept of it. I'm a big advocater of truth-telling and there are a lot of people that I would love to see be honest for a day, because they can't seem to go without lying
Thirdly- I like the root of it and how it fits into a magical word. JKR does that with the majority of the words and I find it very interesting
And finally-- well it's the best HP forum around of course

I think the "Avada Kedavra" curse is an interesting word. It is kind of like the stereotyped spell word "Abra Kedabra", but warped into an evil and ominous tone.

They are popular , but in the same time they are really good words . A word like Avada Kedavra sound interesting , and it is , in my opinion . Ok i admit it is Dark magic , but you know , we are like those kids , when you told them not to do something it is exactly what they will do . It is very exciting Dark magic

weird... I thought I had posted here before *shrugs*
maybe I'm just going a bit crazy!

whatever... This is an interesting question... I like:
1~horcrux(es): it sounds like dark and evil.. I think it is a perfect word for what they are.
2~Voldemort: who doesn't love it? It is the perfect name for a villain!
3~mortifagos: That is the spanish translation for Death Eaters... and it sounds cool!
3~portkey/pensieve/floo: a bit random, but I like them...

My favorite name to say out loud in my best English accent is "Peter Pettigrew." I really don't like the character, but his name is just loads of fun to say. It's all of the hard consonants in a row.
Like, Pixymagik, I think Veritaserum is a great word( and the greatest site)! The concept is brilliant. (And the way Rickman says it in the movie just makes me want to play that clip in my head over and over. . .come to think of it, the way he delivers all of his lines makes me want to play them over and over.)

I would have to say that my fave HP word is Hippogriffe. I also think that Peter Pettigrew sounds funny. Ooooh! Justin Flinch Flechly sounds funny!( I'm not sure if I spelled his name right...oh well!).

Ah, yes I remember doing a double take with my eyes when I crossed the term "Muggle" for the first time. I knid of felt like Vernon when he was called a muggle. Stunned and a bit feaked out. That has to be my favorite term, too. The next is Quidditch mostly because of the fifteen million arguments I had with people who refused to pronounce it my way, which was coincidentlly(?) also the right way to say it. So I like the word because I was right and my friends were wrong. My third favorite is *drum-roll* Hermione! Who didn't have fun trying to say her name right. I felt just like Viktor.
