Okie doke, we've all read the books (well most of us anyway!) and we've seen what great spells and words and names J.K.Rowling has created. But, now I ask you HP Fans, what is your favourite word in the Wizarding world? It could be the name of a place, a spell, a creature or even the name of a particular wizard, but what is your favourite and why?

I'll start us off, my favourite word would be: Firewhisky, I don't know why it just seems to have a warm feeling to it tongue.gif . So, what're yours?

Happy posting,

OOOoooh, nice topic, dragonmeter!!

I really cannot even begin to think what my favorite wizarding word is...i guess I would have to say -- hmmmmmm -- "Avada Kedavra"!

Yeah, its the Killing Curse, but it still sounds really cool! i love saying it to my friends when they start to annoy me, at which point they immediately stop, stare at me like I have 100 heads, and say "you're joking, right?" laugh.gif fun tongue.gif

There are plenty of other words, but too many to think of off the top of my head!

ron aka cool dude
to carry on in the evil curses theme I kinda like the word cruciatus. However, because Iam a big fan of Neville I can't bring myself to put that as my favorite word as it was used against his parents. Therefore my favorite word has got to be Dobby
Just the Droobles
This isn't really a magic word, and actually it's two words, but for some reason "jiggery pokery" from CoS struck me as extremely hilarious. I dunno, maybe I was sleep deprived the day I read it or something. Hmm, a magic word though? I like Tarantallegra. That's a fun one to say. And I actually think it's outcome is kind of comical.
Padfoot08
Hmmmm? Favorite Wizarding word? I would have to say,
Expelliarmus(spelling?). Anyway, I just love how that word sounds, especially when you say it slowly. cool.gif
priori_incantatem
Well, I have a few. I used to like the word "quidditch", but it doesn't strike me as much as it used to. i really like Imperio. I also like Accio. Sometimes, when my pen or pencil falls off my desk, I say "Accio pen!" just for the heck of it.
Padfoot313
My favorite has to be bubotuber, it just sounds fun and gross at the same time. Yellowish pus that causes pimples and smells like petrol. That's a ghast!!!

Expelleramis has to be my second favorite only because me neice (age 5) runs around with the HP wand I bought her yelling it and pointing the wand at people. SSSSSOOOOOOOO adorable!!!!!!!!
Witch@Heart
My favorite wizarding word is actually a place...Diagon Alley. Not only do I like the name of it but the idea of it--shops selling magical supplies and items would just be wonderful. I wish it really did exist!
luckyfish
Oooh!Awesome topic!Good on you!My favourite words?Mmm...I have sooo many! laugh.gif I'll tell you a few:Snuffles for obvious reasons;marauders cos it sounds adventurous!Expecto patronum cos it sounds very powerful;wingardium leviosa cos it sounds very airy(weird hey?);mimbulous mimbletonia cos it is one heck of a mouth full;finite incantatem cos it caused a raucous at the quidditch match in the first year and lastlysirius black cos it sounds spooky and he is my favourite marauder! rolleyes.gif

I have many more but I think I would just be boring you guys!
james pickles
I like the word muggle. It just sound so muggley muggled. I love all wizard words really. Dumbledore is a really good name and word. SECTUMSEMPRA is just so cool, it just rolls off the tongue.
ariana
This is a good topic ... and a very hard question . I don't really have one favorite word . I have many favorite words .
I like "Voldemort ".. he spouse to be the materialisation of evil and the word found is so perfect .
I like Avada Kedavra , actually this is not a word invented by JKR ... the spell really exist . Is such a beautiful word for such a dark magic . I like Hogwarts Expires ... i use it every day ... if something wrong happened ore i say something wrong the blame is on Hogwarts Expres laugh.gif .
I like Snape , don't shoot me , i just like the word .
And my long list could continue for loong time wink.gif
jyliiibean

Haha this is a cool topic. Weeellll....... my favourite words are mimbulous mimbletonia just because it sounds cool and Pigwidgeon (i hope thats how you spell it) because its such a cute and fun name.
I guess sectumsempra sounds cool too tho. and there are lots more but i wont mention them right now
mysterious_witch

Itvwould hve to be Sectumsempra.

I love this word . I admit i don't like the spell , i mean i don't like what the spell does , but it is a great word . And describes perfectly the spell . I think most of the spells have really great names
mysterious_witch
yer i agree with firewhisky also

MOD EDIT : Oi, you've been told enough times now to read the rules. One-liners are not allowed in the forums, please elaborate more in your posts.

I have many wizarding words. First, it's the word muggle. I like it because they have a particular term on the non- muggle humans and they're not calling them, "non-magical" humans but instead they call it "muggle" and it's cute because you will have to ask, "Hey, what do you mean when you say Muggle?". And I actually adapted the word. wink.gif

Then next would be the word Accio. I find it so cute and it's used the appropiate word for the lazy ones... like me... laugh.gif

And of course, Quidditch. If you're not a Harry Potter fan, you'll find this word weird and if you find out that it's actually a sport, you'll immediately ask how to play this one.

Pygmy Puffs is also cute. You could replace it for the word teddy bear laugh.gif
dragontamer
Haha, wow glad to see what some people's favourite magic words are. By looking at the posts it looks as though Sectumsempra would have to be one of the favourites, even though it is quite a horrific curse.
I have to say I also like the name of the famous Wizarding band the Weird Sisters. The name is incredibly simple yet still hilariously funny tongue.gif .

Well it is a good word tongue.gif . The fact that is a horrible curse has nothing to do with this . And you know if you think better , this spell was invented so in the end is a great spell to , horrible , but great . And actually sounds good laugh.gif

I love the word "Muggle"! I love to say it, and it seems like the perfect word for us. I am proud to be a Muggle too... I think. Muggles rock!

I also like the name Hermione. I could say that all day, just letting it roll of my toungue smoothly. Her-mi-o-ne...
I_See_Thestrals
Id have to agree that Sectumsempra is a rocking spell...it just flows. but i dont know if its my favourite word...Golden Snitch might be one! and i love the Expecto Petronum spell....in other words, there are quite a few rocking words that JKR has made, or adapted.
*dementor*
my favourite word has got to be "voldemort"...it just sounds so evil and cruel but its the most uncommon name i have ever heard of and its creepy. it so suits the character and is a wonderful name.
sectumsempra is also a wonderful word although the spell is freaky dry.gif
Agent0042
For some reason, I like "protego." Can't really think why that in particular. I've just always liked the sound of it.

And "jiggery pokery" --- yeah, that's pretty funny too.
Vindictive Dark
Sectumsempra is so beautiful to me, though everyone else seems to think so too... sad.gif

I think that Alohomora, which unlocks doors, is a pretty word too. Wingardium Leviosa is fun to say, mostly because it's fun to imitate Hermione: "It's Levi-O-sa, not lev-i-o-SAH!"

I also find the word Kneazle rather amusing, but I have no good explanation as to why.
darla_daniel
i love the word sectumsempra and both the words wingardium leviosa.. =] i've always thought the word muggle is beautiful.. and i guess the word expecto patronum kinda stuck onto me. =]

i also love the word alohomora .. such a cool spell! =] accio is another one of my favourites! i have a lot of favourite wizarding words.. =] but i guess.. nothing can beat my all-time favourtie word, quidditch .. =]

xoxo*darla
beauxbaton1000
hmm, I like them all!! JK Rowling is so funny with words!! I like "Hogwarts" though, just because it's soooo random and funny!! But they're all cool.

I love that word too . But unfortunatly the romanian edition translate to something that i don't like . And is such a pity , because is such a great word
Suzy
I like Animagi. It's definately a cool word. And I have to follow up with Whomping Willow. What a great concept for a tree!
vivvo
I don't know. I think I live 'Sectumsempra'. There's something nice about that. I think's it's a cool word, but the spell's a bit harsh.
Pixymajik
Personally, I'm partial to 'Veritaserum' wink.gif

For starters- I think that's a word that just rolls- especially if you can do what I can't and roll the 'r'

Secondly- I like the concept of it. I'm a big advocater of truth-telling and there are a lot of people that I would love to see be honest for a day, because they can't seem to go without lying rolleyes.gif

Thirdly- I like the root of it and how it fits into a magical word. JKR does that with the majority of the words and I find it very interesting

And finally-- well it's the best HP forum around of course wink.gif
Shellolly
i've never been a huge fan of the movies, but i am glad i saw the third one just to hear snape say "expelliarmus". ever since, that has been my favourite. it just sounded so funny!
SeventhHorcrux
I think the "Avada Kedavra" curse is an interesting word. It is kind of like the stereotyped spell word "Abra Kedabra", but warped into an evil and ominous tone.
ariana

I think the "Avada Kedavra" curse is an interesting word.

I like the word from the original ( english ) . But i'm still not happy about the "Abracadabra" translation . Avada Kedavra is a good word , ok it is a bad course , but a good word . I read somewere that the speel really exist ( nice )
dragontamer
Wow, people are still really holding tight on the word Sectumsempra. And now we have fans of Avada Kedavra. What's with the Dark curses, eh? They seem to be popular this year round tongue.gif .

Happy posting,

dragontamer cool.gif
ariana
They are popular , but in the same time they are really good words . A word like Avada Kedavra sound interesting , and it is , in my opinion . Ok i admit it is Dark magic , but you know , we are like those kids , when you told them not to do something it is exactly what they will do . It is very exciting Dark magic cool.gif
mxnhpfreak
weird... I thought I had posted here before *shrugs*
maybe I'm just going a bit crazy! tongue.gif laugh.gif

whatever... This is an interesting question... I like:
1~horcrux(es): it sounds like dark and evil.. I think it is a perfect word for what they are.
2~Voldemort: who doesn't love it? It is the perfect name for a villain!
3~mortifagos: That is the spanish translation for Death Eaters... and it sounds cool!
3~portkey/pensieve/floo: a bit random, but I like them...

My favorite name to say out loud in my best English accent is "Peter Pettigrew." I really don't like the character, but his name is just loads of fun to say. It's all of the hard consonants in a row.

Like, Pixymagik, I think Veritaserum is a great word( and the greatest site)! The concept is brilliant. (And the way Rickman says it in the movie just makes me want to play that clip in my head over and over. . .come to think of it, the way he delivers all of his lines makes me want to play them over and over.)

*pretty in punk*
This topic sounds fun!
I would have to say that my fave HP word is Hippogriffe. I also think that Peter Pettigrew sounds funny. Ooooh! Justin Flinch Flechly sounds funny!( I'm not sure if I spelled his name right...oh well!).
Pikel
i am the same, sectumsempra is pretty wak
Chelsey_princess
Wow!
Guess my favourite wizarding word is "Avada Kedavra".It's bad alright..but just so cool to say!
JK sure has a nerve towards translation of simple words into complicated wonderful nitty witty things!

Chels.
Malfoylover
ok..

for some odd reason i think that when the characters call each other gits it is just funny...especially in the last movie..when ron and Harry are fighting..well not getting along. I don't think it really is a magical word but they use it alot and its not usually used in my school or anything...
sorry..i started to ramble on a bit there..haha

ok i'm done biggrin.gif
LilyPotter
I'm gonna have to go with Levicorpus on this one. I love how James uses Snape's own spell against him... it's just a little more salt in the wound of Snape's existence!

Also, Padfoot, because I love love love Sirius!
Ginevra
My favorite word is probably...butterbeer tongue.gif ! Avada Kedavra is really cool too though. And Hogwarts biggrin.gif . Wingardium Leviosa is cool too.
Comet
"Wizingamot" I cant remember which book that was from
ginny_1991
My favourite word would have to be horcrux.. I dont know why it is just so fun to say. I know it is bad and it is dark magic but I really love the word. I also like veritaserum, Hogwarts, Firewhisky and Butterbeer. And I absolutely love expecto patronum! biggrin.gif
Salazaar
My All time favorite word in Harry Potter has got to be Horcruxes and Voldemort, both of them just sound really really evil. My favorite would that isn't evil has to be Firewhisky, it just warms me up inside to say it, Firewhisky.
Kolby Potter
Wow what a GREAT Subject! Hmm... I have Over like 20, but I will only list a few. Hmmm.. Let me see Sectumsempra is a really good one. OH and Impedimenta is just AWESOME tongue.gif! Umm Expelliramus ( who wouldn't like that on biggrin.gif ) And Alot more but it would go on for pages, probaly i could make like 3 pages. But i will name one more this is my first word from Harry Potter biggrin.gif it is... Muggle! The first time I heard this it made me laugh! Kee Hee
fragglecomegomibayas
It might sound dumb but my two favourite words are:

Wand (the way british say it is really cool)
Healer(just because)

Fraggle magic.gif
FFFanatic06
Ah, yes I remember doing a double take with my eyes when I crossed the term "Muggle" for the first time. I knid of felt like Vernon when he was called a muggle. Stunned and a bit feaked out. That has to be my favorite term, too. The next is Quidditch mostly because of the fifteen million arguments I had with people who refused to pronounce it my way, which was coincidentlly(?) also the right way to say it. So I like the word because I was right and my friends were wrong. My third favorite is *drum-roll* Hermione! Who didn't have fun trying to say her name right. I felt just like Viktor.
