Yeah I agree they were cocky, and Bill Belichick (isn't that the coach?) walked off the field before the game ended. Terrible sportsmanship, I have never seen anything that upset me more in a sports match, if I supported the Patriots I would have been embarrassed! It took the Patriots forever to get 11 players to play defense once it was clear the Giants were going to win. However, I don't think being overconfident is an excuse for anything. At least there wasn't much moping about the refs, I hate that.

Yeah. That was so rude of the coach to do. All the patriot fans I know were angry. I agree. Complete unsportsmanship. I guess there wasn't much moping about the refs were you are, but were I am, there was. I always hated when people mope about that. I agree that sometimes refs are unfair..but I would never try to be a ref myself..too hard to do. So I've never really criticized a ref even if I don't agree with the call. Yeah, I like the patriots, but they lost..it wasn't the end of the world for me.

There was one kid that was on the Patriots bandwagon in my class (he is the biggest bandwagon rider I have ever met) was talking trash about the Patriots all season. Anyway the day after the Super Bowl we taped a picture of David Tyree making the catch and Eli Manning hoisting the trophy in his locker, and I swear he almost cried. You probably don't think that is funny but my class sure did. We wouldn't have done it to a fan that supported the patriots before they got good but considering he just supports teams that are doing well...

Actually, that is pretty funny. I have a couple friends who go for the winning team..and I just can't do that. I mean, you're either for a team or not. You can't be only sometimes for a team and sometimes not. Not cool haha.

I remember when the Steelers won the Super Bowl people down here were trying to get a petition signed that the refs were fixed. I may hate the Steelers but that was kinda ridiculous.

I hate like in basketball when someone is called for a foul or like a travel and they look at their parents like what the heck I didn't do that. I told my friends if I ever did that to yell at me, so far I haven't been yelled at. I know when I foul and even if I don't agree with the call (usually I agree even if I don't want to) I am not gonna let that show and make myself look like an idiot.

I have been called a bandwagon rider for supporting the colts but I have been a fan since Marvin Harrison came along, even though I was like three he was my oldest brothers favorite player so we always watched him play in the pros. (Marvin Harrison came along before Manning)

Hahahaha. That's so funny. I can't believe they really tried that. I mean, if a call is called a foul or anything like that, it really can't be taken away. They aren't going to spend the time watching a video just to see ift hey were fair or not. It's a one second decision. I think that in sports, players should know that some calls aren't going to fair, and that they should just try harder in making sure that nothing can be questioned while they are playiing by playing harder themselves.

I can see why one of them won the Superbowl over your team just last year and the other is one of the best quarterbacks in the league and he plays for the rival team. I would hate them too if I liked the Patriots but I love them (especially Eli since the Superbowl)

The Nebraska Huskers are playing their first game right now against Western Michigan. I am going to continue to update this as the game goes along.

Joey Ganz is looking great and Cody Glenn who was switched in the off season to a linebacker from a running back so far looks awesome but he just got a late hit called on him.

1st quarter

Nebraska started with the ball but they had to punt, Western Michigan got the ball but they had to punt and Nebraska just scored a touchdown on a 15 yard touchdown run by Marlon Lucky. So we are winning 7-0 at the current moment. Western Michigan just had to punt after we sacked them on third down but the funniest play all of that possession was when they fumbled and it went out of bounds and Glenn came up pointing the other direction saying that the Huskers had the ball, even the Western Michigan guy who fumbled was laughing. We just got our second touchdown on a three yard throw to Mike McNeill. so we are winning 14-0. Western Michigan just fumbled on a Cody Glenn strip and Nebraska recovered it. That ends the first quarter!

2nd quarter

Our kicker just made a 44 yard field goal to put as ahead 17-0! We intercepted the ball but we were called for our obvious pass interference on the play. They just scored a touchdown on a 5 yard pass to cut our lead 17-7. We just scored a touchdown on a at least 50 yard pass reception from Ganz to senior WR Nate Swift (number four for Nebraska receptions) and he almost got tripped up and we now have a 24-7 lead! They punted after they nearly threw an interception to Cody Glenn on 3rd down and we just had a really nice punt return by Niles Paul. Our kicker just nailed another 44 yard field goal to give us 1 27-7 lead. Western Michigan just returned a kick so they start up on the Nebraska 40 yard line. Western Michigan just converted a fourth down to put them within ten yards of the end zone . We stopped them on the one yard line and they made a field goal to cut Nebraska's lead to 27-10. Joey Ganz hit Nate Swift for another touchdown with 32 seconds left in the half to give us a 34-10 lead. That ends the first half!

I must admit I really like the Giants for beating the Patriots. But I've never liked the Pats because well, I'm a Buffalo Bills fan. I also respect the way Peyton Manning plays. He's quite the genius about making spur of the moment calls. Although, it may seem like he does it on every play. He's very good at spotting something that needs to be changed before the ball is snapped. But Eli and the Giants I was rooting for because one, I'm not a Pats fan but also because I just couldn't believe how well that team was playing.

Continued from above...

3rd quarter

Western Michigan started with the ball but they were forced to punt. Nebraska took over on their own 35 yard line. Our kicker just made a 45 yard field goal to put us up 37-10. Western Michigan is driving down the field after a 50 some yard pass and Western Michigan just scored a touchdown to cut our lead to 37-17. Mike Huff for Nebraska just got injured. Nebraska was forced to punt and we pinned them within the 20 on the punt. Western Michigan is forced to punt and Nebraska is taking over at the 26 yard line. We threw a huge pass to Dillard and then a 20 yard touchdown pass to Marlon Lucy to take a 44-7 lead. Western Michigan has put together a good drive so far and that ends quarter 3!

4th quarter!

We had Western Michigan going for a 4th down on the 9 yard line after they dropped a pass in the end zone and a near interception but they got a touchdown on their 4th down try to cut our lead to 44-24. Joey Ganz threw an interception because the ball went right through his receiver's hands. Western Michigan was in scoring position and our CB West picked off the ball. Joey Ganz threw an interception to CJ Lewis after he just threw a 40 some yard throw to Nate Swift. Western Michigan went long on first down and the Nebraska defender makes an amazing play to prevent a touch down. Our kicker just hit a 45 yard field goal to extend our lead to 47-28 with 5:22 left in the game.

And we ended the game with that score!

Cody Glenn played amazing for his first time on defense!

Nebraska is 3-0 but so far we have played bad teams (Western Michigan, San Jose State, and New Mexico State winning those games 47-24, 35-12, and 38-7 respectively. Today we have our first decent test in Virginia Tech at 7 tonight!

By the way I heard all about Brady's injury but it seems that QB that hasn't started since HS is doing ok.

Ok im going to update this throughout the night.

1st quarter

So far Nebraska punted after going 3 and out even though they did "go" for it on 4th down, by that i mean they tried to draw VT offsides and took the delay of game. VT had a really nice punt return (due to sloppy tackle attempts) and they got a 1st down on their first play but they ended up having to punt. Nebraska punted after a 3 and out and Virginia Tech blocked it and it went out of the back of the end zone for a safety 2-0 VT. We sacked them on 3rd down to force a punt which we muffed but we recovered it. On first down Ganz threw an interception. (This is getting painful) Their running back runs it in for a touchdown 9-0. We had a good drive which ended with a td throw from Ganz to McNeill 9-7 VT.

2nd quarter

Virginia Tech hit a 19 yard field goal to extend their lead to 12-7. Alex Henry for Nebraska nailed a 49 yard field goal to cut the VT lead 12-10. We are currently having a string of injuries, 2 VT players (1 leg injury, I think the other guy got the wind knocked out of him) and Larry Asante (shoulder or head). VT made a 48 yard field goal to extend their lead 15-10. Another vt field goal 18-10. We punted but we got it back due to roughing the punter.

3rd quarter

VT made another field goal to extend the lead to 21-10. Virginia Tech scored a running touchdown 28-10. Roy Helu Jr. for Nebraska ran it in to cut the Virginia Tech to cut the lead to 28-17.

4th quarter

Nate Swift had a sweet 88 (4th longest in Husker history) yard punt return for a touchdown, we didn't convert on the 2 point conversion even though Swift almost made an amazing one handed, diving grab. Nebraska got a ridiculous unnecessary roughing penalty called on Suh he hit a guy out of bounds but he had started diving at the way before he fell out of bounds. Then someone got unsportsmanlike conduct called on him for arguing the call. Virginia Tech scored a touchdown later to extend their lead 34-23 with 2:28 remaining. The same guy that got the unnecessary roughness got another personal foul on the extra point but the ref didn't specify what for. Todd Pederson caught a touchdown pass to cut the lead to 5, 35-30. Our onside kick was unsuccessful. Our WR caught it but fumbled it and they recovered to end the game.

I was getting nervous today against the Rams when we weren't playing our game but we came back in the second half like the rest of this season.

Wow! Hannah! You're really good at relaying what happened in the games! I could never do that!

So far I've been watching the Giants play. They're really ahead. I hope they win. Later tonight, I'm going to watch the Patriots game. See I've been a Patriots fan for a while, but I really wasn't pleased with how they played last year. They were kind of unsportsman like. Especially at the Superbowl. I just didn't like it. My second favorite team is the Giants and I'm leaning towards them more just cause I'm not happy with how the Patriots have been playing. Maybe they'll come around again and be a good team like a few years ago, but I doubt it.

We had the Gator Bowl today!!!

The final score was Huskers 26, Clemson 21!!!

It was a really slow game until the end of the first half. Clemson almost had an early field goal but we blocked it! In which Clemson scored two tds and we got a field goal.

The second half was a lot better. Clemson had another td and we had 3 more field goals and 2 tds!!!

The Huskers finished 9-4 in head coach Bo Pelini's first season! We finished 5-7 last year so very welcome change!

Happy New Year!!!

By the way the Colts are in the playoffs!!!

I just wanted to add quickly ; Last Sunday the Miami Dolphins lost in the first round of the playoffs to the Baltimore Ravens "/ [As you can tell I am from Florida] and on a lighter note on Thursday the University of Florida Gators won the BCS championship bowl. The Oklahoma Sooners got powned (:

Couldn't resit replying. I wouldnt call a ten point loss being powned. As much as I hate the Sooners, on games they won this year the least they ever won by was 25 and the most was 55. So all but two games they won by anywhere from 25-55. They powned those teams. The Gators did make the crucial plays, they got it done in the clutch, the Sooners didn't. Had they converted one of those goal line plays, they wouldn't have had to rush like they did. It very well could hae gone to OT in that position, but they didn't and the Gator defense deserves all the credit in the world for that.

What I really came to talk about was the Superbowl though. I am really hoping the Arizona Cardinals pull it off. I really hate the Steelers, the only team I hate more is the Patriots. The Cardinals are down by ten at half when it should be either a tie, 4 point cardinal lead, or 3 point steelers lead.

On the last play of the 1st half Kurt Warner of the Cardinals threw an interception that was returned 100 yards for a TD. It would have been a tie had Arizona gotten a field goal out of their last possession, it would have been a 4 point Cardinal lead had Arizona gotten the TD and extra point, and had they overruled the td return it would be a 3 point Steeler lead. The ruling was since the ball landed on Larry Fitzgeralds leg it was a TD, I honestly thought it was going to be reversed. The second half is about to start with Arizona starting with possession.
HarryPotterIsLife
Superbowl, oh dear. I'm from New England, I have a soft spot for my Pats. Except for certain players. *grumbles*

I want Arizona to win, I really despise the Steelers. And by the looks of it, with 2:20 left in football time, Arizona might win. But you never know what's going to happen in football, but I'm still rooting for Arizona.

1:56. We might going for a tie all of a sudden. Sports are too anxiety-striken for me, I can't watch them haha.

Lol same here.

It had better not go into overtime, I want to see the end but I also want to go to bed haha.

That last run by Fitzgerald (that's his name right?) was amazing. He did it a ton of time in the game against the Eagles too.

Oh God just catch the ball already someone! wacko.gif

Edit: Touchdown Steelers, they've got it I think.
HJP/HJG_TrueLove
Ugh... a grudging congratulations to the Steelers, especially Holmes who had the td catch that won the game. I really thought the Cardinals were gonna win, my hopes were so high after that amazing play by Larry Fitzgerald (who went to Pitt for college by the way).

I was getting so mad at all the penalties, over a 100 yards in penalties for the Cards. Speaking of penalties, that personal foul by Harrison (the guy who returned it for a td right before half) was ridiculous, why wasn't he ejected?
He pushed him down and started punching him, trying to keep him down, then when he tried to get up he pushed him down again, and the player tried to get away from him and he chased him and pushed him down again. That was ridiculous, im almost glad that Holmes will go down as the main hero for them, not him.

Good job to both teams, I don't think the better team won, I just think the team with the big breaks won tonight. I hate the Steelers so much. The Steelers are the team I hate the second most and the Cardinals are the team I like the 3rd most. Any team with Larry Fitzgerald will always be a favorite of mine, I really wanted him to get the Heisman and I really was hoping he would get a ring and Superbowl MVP tonight. Oh well...

Hello all you football fans!!

I was looking around and found this topic and was intrigued (because i love football!!)

Well i was wondering whether any of ya'll track the college football teams during the offseason? Because i was wondering (because everyone here is spread out) if there are any good teams coming into the picture maybe next year?

Im from Alabama and i am a die hard Alabama Crimson Tide fan. And ill tell you something, WERE BACK.. lol yes sir we are.

But im just curious to anyone that cares or knows much about there school or favorite team!!

thanks!!

The Huskers are apparently having a pretty good offseason but of course you can never really tell before your first game against a quality opponent which for us is week three @ Virginia Tech. I'm pretty sure Virginia Tech is #10 right now and currently Nebraska is #22 coming into the season. Last year against Virginia Tech we dropped a tough one losing 35-30. We gave up a safety and in the 2nd quarter they made 3 field goals and take away the safety and just one of those field goals and the game would have gone into overtime... and after our punt return touchdown we failed to convert a 2 point conversion kick an extra point and presumably make it we would win the game.

We also have a game with Oklahoma which we will presumably lose. A confrence game vs. Texas Tech who just missed the pre-season top 25 last year we dropped a game to them in OT. We have a good shot against Kansas and Missouri this year and hopefully we can pull out wins there. Those are the only games we probably have big concerns about.

Our strengths!
1. Ndamukong Suh and the rest of the defensive line... Suh is one of the best defensive players in the Big 12. He is already being projected as high as the number 2 pick of the next NFL draft by multiple experts. I've seen him chase down running backs and wide receivers in the secondary coverage. He is amazingly strong and agile... he returned two interceptions for touchdowns last year as well as caught a TD pass in goal line formation (he plays full back in the goal line). The rest of the defensive line are pretty talented and experienced.

2. Running Backs... Roy Helu and Quentin Castille
They make an amazing duo... Helu is more of an everydown back with amazing athleticism and he is known to break out big runs and jump over defenders. Castille is more of a bruiser... strong and powerful but still capable of busting the occasional 20 yard run (prone to fumbles however).

3. Secondary... we return Larry Asante (3 year starter), Ricky Thenarse, Anthony West, Eric Hagg, Matt O'Hanlon, and Anthony Blue. All of whom are very experienced.

4. Offensive line... returns multiple starters

Concerns!
1. Passing game... two years ago we possibly had the best group of Wideouts with Maurice Purify, Nate Swift, Todd Peterson, and Terrance Nun. Last year we still had Nate Swift and Todd Peterson, both finished in the top 5 in school history. Now, we're left simply with a bunch of practically untested receivers with little experience. Our top bets at receiver are Niles Paul and Menelik Holt. Also, our projected starting Zac Lee hardly has any experience and none of his backups have any game experience at all.

2. We have a lot of unproven talent in this position set... Phillip Dillard and Blake Lawrence are the most experienced of the lot but each have fallen back on the depth charts and Dillard is extremely prone to injuries.

3. Special Teams
We probably have the best kicker in the conference in Alex Henry who is extremely accurate and yet capable of making field goals in high-stress situations from 57 yards. However, we do not have a long snapper or placer yet which might ruin Henry's kicks both in field goals and punts.

We are projected to finish 9-4 or 10-3 generally and depending on who you ask 1st or 2nd in the Big 12 North.
HJP/HJG_TrueLove
Bad news for Husker fans... our second string running back, Quentin Castille, was kicked off the team today. He could have managed around 800 yards this season rushing for us. In my previous post I mentioned him and Roy Helu as one of our teams strengths. However, we have great depth in the position. However, Castille was the only backup running back with any experience. A whole host of freshmen and other untested backs are now fighting for the number two spot.
HJP/HJG_TrueLove
The Huskers are 1-0 after beating Florida Atlantic University 49-3. I am really excited for Zac Lee, Nadamukong Suh, Roy Helu Jr., Alex Henry, Rex Burkhead, Cody Green, and Mike McNeill this season.

Zac Lee in his first game starting as a Husker completed 15-22 passes (4 of the incompletions were drops) for 214 yards and two scores. His backup true freshmen Cody Green rushed twice for 50 yards (one of them was a 49 yarder and during the replay of that rush one of the announcers compared him to Vince Young), his one yard rush was a TD. Roy Helu Jr. had 17 carries for 157 yards 3 TDs and a long of 44 yards. His backup true freshmen Rex Burkhead had a rushing TD. We won our 24th consecutive season opener (NCAA record)... and had our 298th consecutive sellout (NCAA Record). While our players were coming out on the field the announcer said this is one of the most exciting moments in college football... the Nebraska Cornhuskers taking the field for the very first time!

In other Big 12 news the #3 Oklahoma Sooners dropped to 0-1 after losing by one point to BYU partially due to the shoulder injury of Sam Bradford that took place during the game. Dashing the Sooners hopes of a National Championship and Bradford's Heisman hopes in one game.
lancelot243
The LSU Tigers are 1-0 after a very ugly win over a Washington team that hasn't won a game since November of 2007. The Tigers looked sloppy and not ready to play today at all. Sophomore quarterback Jordan Jefferson looked pretty good, throwing for a little under 200 yards and 2 TDs (both to junior WR Terrance Toliver). The real problem was the Tigers defense. A defense that was ranked #3 in the country two years ago gave up over 400 yards today and looked slow and sloppy. Im a little nervous about this season after todays game, but at least we got a win. GEAUX TIGERS!!

Sorry for taking your Defensive Coordinator, he's an amazing coach our defense under Bo and his brother Carl's defense is much improved from before Pelini came back.

The Huskers play Arkansas State at 1 today... so in just a few hours... can't wait!

I was just looking at a College Football Fans page and it's status was Notre Dame or Michigan? 16 of the 53 comments thus far said Nebraska haha
HJP/HJG_TrueLove
I am literally shaking from the Husker football game... a loss to #13 Virginia Tech 16-15. We had a 5 point lead going into Virginia Tech's last possession when the QB found his man completely uncovered half way down the field... he was chased down at the 2 by our safety (who let him get super open) and knocked out of bounds. We get a sack to push them back, incomplete pass, on 3rd down we had two defensive players hesitate before pressuring the QB and right before we got to him he found his guy in the end zone to take the lead. They tried for the two point conversion and failed.

Here is what cost us the game...

1. Very first play a 70 yard kick return to put them near the 20
2. We recovered from that and sacked them and stuffed a run and on third and 20 he found his wideout for a 21 yard reception which set up a td.
3. Our QB threw to the endzone... perfect pass which went through the hands of Holt and we settled for one of our five field goals.
4. On a first and goal on the 4 we couldn't find the endzone
5. During the second half we had a great drive going and should have had a TD to Holt once again he had it and after he was out of the endzone, still sliding he dropped the ball
6. We had a wide reciever extremely wide open down the field and he got the reception but the throw didn't allow for him to run it in for a td which it would have been otherwise.
7. We could have still made something happen with that drive but we preceded to get I believe 5 penalties over the next couple of plays to take us to what would have been probably a 54 yard kick (our kicker has made a 57) and instead we punted.
8. That horrific pass they almost scored on
9. Their td three plays later

On the few bright notes:
Suh absolutely dominated he had 1 or 2 sacks, around 8 tackles, and four pass deflections

Roy Helu (until that huge pass late in the fourth) had more yards rushing than the entire Hokie offense

Until that last drive the defense played absolutely shut down football

Alex Henry made 5/5 field goals and had one of the coolest punts I've ever seen

Niles Paul had a huge punt return and actually caught the ball unlike our #1 wide put Holt who dropped key passes in the endzone

Its going to take me a couple days to recover from this loss not even kidding... and like one of the post game articles I read said... "They'll be wondering how this one got away for a long time."

I could definitely tell you how it got away but I'm still in shock of what I just witnessed. I can't believe it... I'm still shaking even now.

LSU won last night 31-3. It really wasn't that exciting of a game seeing as we played ULL; a team that we have a total series score of 988-25 with. Our defense once again looked solid and our offense was decent. Jordan Jefferson, the sophomore QB, can't throw the ball deep at all, but he was efficient as always. We play next week at Miss State; which should be an easy game, but it gets tougher quick as we go to UGA and then come back home to face Florida and Tim Tebow. GEAUX TIGERS!

Where did this thread come from?! I've been posting about college football in the sports thread in the great hall. I kept wondering why no one on VTM likes football! Maybe I posted here last year and just forgot anyways... I FOUND you guys!

Okay now football talk!

So I was a bit disappointed with my Gators this past Saturday. I was expecting (like everyone else) to see a blowout against Tennessee. And instead found myself screaming at my TV more than usual. A win is a win, and I'm glad my team won...but seriously disappointed. I know we had a few injured and sick players and everything but I thought they could have done better. unsure.gif

Why didn't Tebow throw the ball? Can anyone answer this for me? I was shocked that he didn't send a few bombs down field like usual. What happened with that!?! mad.gif

Okay so another team I follow is the Alabama Crimson Tide (My hubby's team). They did great against North Texas. Wait...who's North Texas? Oh well...they killed 'em anyways. Let's see what the Tide can do against an SEC team. Arkansas Razorbacks...here comes the tide! I suggest investing in some floaties. laugh.gif

And finally the Miami Hurricanes. I grew up with this team and my family are still die hard fans! They played great against Georgia Tech. This team is becoming what the Hurricanes use to be in the 80's...AWESOME...CHAMPIONS. I'm just glad my Gators don't have to play them this year! Miami has a tough road ahead of them for the next few games. Virgina Tech is pretty good but I have confidence that the Hurricanes can take the game this Saturday.

GO GATORS!!
Dawn

Edit: I've found out why the Gators didn't throw the ball...why they weren't explosive as usual. If anyone else is wondering here's the article written by SEC blogger for ESPN Chris Low. Meyer: Vols weren't pushing for victory

I wouldn't be so sure. The Husker defense dominated all game against the Hokies, one example of this would be their one yard 3rd quarter. Only to come up short because of one blown play in the last minute and a touchdown play that took 12 seconds to complete (our star Suh hesitated).

VT has a knack for coming from behind in ridiculous fashion. They thing about VT is they never make mistakes. No turnovers, nothing. They have the best special teams in the country and have playmakers on both sides of the ball. Maybe I'm just bitter that the Huskers lost, but it's pretty much their thing to come back and steal the win.

I beg to differ on this. One of the best special teams in the country belongs to the Florida Gators. I'm not just saying this because I'm a Gator fan. Special teams is one of the most important components for the Gators, Urban Myer coaches special teams himself.. With Brandon James waiting in the backfield, anything is possible. Teams usually try and avoid kicking to Brandon James.

Alabama also has great special teams. Javier Arenas is insanely good at special teams.

I'm sure VT has an awesome special teams unit, but to say they are the best in the country is really stretching it. VT was the preseason favorite to win the ACC. I know they're good, just watching them play Alabama, you can see it. There were a few times when I thought VT was going to win that game!

But since I cheer for Miami (When they aren't playing the Gators) I have to be positive that Miami could win this weekend. I think it's going to be a great game to watch. VT is a good team and Miami is just getting back to being good themselves.

A couple quick things. First off, I support the New Orleans Saints.

Second off, my cousin goes to LSU and while at their football game she saw somebody sitting a few seats down from her, and he looked familiar. Right when he left to go somewhere else, she realized that it was the actor Matthew McConaughey. She got a picture of him at the game when he was talking to the players.

Shaquil O'Neele was also there if that means anything to anyone. He is really big!

This is why I say VT has the best special teams in the country, so far this year the Hokie special teams in 3 games have the following stats:

Kick returner Dyrell Roberts averaging almost 50 (highest in country) yards per return with 1 98 yard TD return

Punt returner Jayron Holsey has a TD return

Haven't missed a field goal

Have the best punter in the ACC averaging around 46-47 yards (2nd highest in country I believe)

Here is something found that emphasized the importance of special teams at VT:

For the first question, the ever-amusing Urban Dictionary gives the main definition of "Beamerball" as, "A brand of football pioneered by Frank Beamer and the Hokies emphasizing special teams. A second, more detailed definition of the term is perhaps a bit more insightful, "A brand of football played by the Virginia Tech Hokies, and named after long-time (1987 - present) head coach and Tech alumnus Frank Beamer. Primarily known for profilic kick- and punt-blocking, Beamerball encompasses the idea that the team can produce points (and prevent opponents' points) at any time, from any point on the football field." Bottom line, broadly put Beamerball is about playing special teams at a high level, but specifically speaking it's all about the Hokies' knack for blocking kicks and punts.

Today the Huskers play Louisiana-Lafayette... which should be an easy win for the Skers. However, it is a very important game. It is the 300th consecutive sellout at Memorial Stadium and all the players will be wearing 1962 throwback jerseys to commemorate the year the streak started. To put that in perspective the next longest streak is 207 which is held by Notre Dame.

To celebrate the 300th consecutive sellout, which is also the homecoming game, Nebraska has several special events planned in conjunction with the game:

--The Huskers will wear “throw-back” uniforms to match those worn by Nebraska in 1962. That will include wearing white helmets with numerals on them.

--The family of former coaching great Bob Devaney will be honored. Now deceased, Devaney was the head coach at Nebraska will the sellout streak started in 1962 and he guided the Huskers to a pair of national titles.

--A reunion of the 1962 Nebraska football team. As of earlier this week, 21 members of the 1962 squad were planning to attend a banquet in their honor and/or Saturday’s game, including co-captain Dwain Carlson.

--Two 25-foot logos commemorating the 300th straight sellout will be painted on Tom Osborne Field.

--The state capitol will be beaming in red, the Cornhusker marching band will play songs from the early 1960s and there will be a post-game fireworks display, weather permitting.

Sellout superlatives

260-39 — Nebraska’s record during the 299 consecutive sellouts, which includes a 39-24 record against ranked teams.

5-0 — The Huskers are undefeated in their five previous milestone sellout games, including the 50th, 100th, 150th, 200th and 250th.

75 — Louisiana-Lafayette will mark the 75th different opponent Nebraska has hosted at Memorial Stadium during the sellout streak.

35 — The opponents who have played at Lincoln during the sellout streak have come from 35 different states.

22,127,996 – Is the total number of fans who have attended Nebraska home games at Memorial Stadium during the first 299 games of the streak.

I'm having a pretty decent sized party at my house with quite a few of my friends for the game because for ppv games we rotate houses because not many people are willing to get every ppv games, they are pretty expensive.

The Virgina Tech team won last night in superb fashion! They really showed how good they are. What a monsoon though huh! I feel bad for the canes though. It just goes to show if you talk the talk and can't walk the walk then you really stumble.

Maybe the canes can learn from this, regroup and beat Oklahoma. I know everyone is laughing, but a girl can dream can't she. wink.gif

So my gators were great! That's the kind of game we should of had against Tennessee! I have to admit that I was really upset when Tebow got hurt. The Kentucky player (Can't remember his name) made a great hit on Tebow, and that's not the hit that hurt him.

I've never played in a contact sport like football so I don't know the adrenaline and excitement they feel on the field, but whenever I see someone hurt (even the opposing team) I get a little worried until they get up on their own. The event that happened last night was just to scary!

Thank goodness the Gators have a bi next weekend, they are going to need it to get healthy. LSU is no easy team this year!

Another note Alabama did great as well, They got off to a bit of a slow start but when they clicked it was off to the races. Arkansas never seemed to get it together.

So here are some scores in case anyone missed 'em.

Miami 7 VT 31
Bama 35 Arkansas 7
Fla 41 Kentucky 7

Oh! Sports Center just said this about Tim. He stayed over night ion the hospital with a concussion and has been released. He's going to be just fine.

The Huskers easily picked apart Louisiana-Lafayette 55-0. Anything less would have been disappointing, apparently there are no ill effects from letting Virginia Tech steal the win from us the week before.

Some notables:
2 of the Huskers top 3 safeties were injured in the game, one after a 70+ yard interception return for a td. Netither returned to play.

Our first td was a run by our halfback who fumbled it into the endzone (first fumble of the year) and it was covered up by one of our linemen.

Alex Henry made 2 field goals (2nd on team behind quarterback in scoring)

Roy Helu Jr. had two rushing tds and would of had three if not for his fumble.

True freshmen backup qb Cody Green brought in a 24 yard rushing td.

True freshmen backup running back Rex Burkhead caught a 24 yard td from Green.

13 players caught passes for the Huskers

At halftime they made the top 10 plays at Memorial Stadium list... I'm going to be checking youtube constantly for it

Larry the Cable Guy was an honorary coach for us

Here is a video of our legendary tunnel walk in commemoration of 300 consecutive sellouts:

Tonight the Huskers play Missouri at Missouri. This game looks to be a key match-up to determine the winner of the Big 12 North (as well as Missouri vs. Kansas, and Nebraska vs. Kansas). It will also be a good measuring stick to how good Nebraska really is and how good Missouri's QB Blaine Gabbert is (Missouri fans are talking Heisman, but there is no hype like Missouri hype). I hope for two things: 1. A Nebraska win 2. No Husker players or fans get hurt in the hostile environment. I've heard all Husker players are being advised to always keep their helmets on.
Hermione17
What a great game between the Canes and Oklahoma. Woohoo the canes won!

Anyways...I've been keeping tabs on Tebow and his progress. The good news is that he's been practicing for a few days now, but still no word on his playing status. They think it won't be decided until Saturday.

Keep in mind that we play #4 LSU this Saturday at 8PM and we desperately need Tebow back!!! However, I'd rather see him sitting on the sidelines to ensure he keeps improving and to keep him from backtracking in progress. A concussion is to serious to gamble with.

We have a great back-up quarterback in John Brantley (he's been called the 3rd best QB in the SEC) and even though he's never played an entire game (Especially in a hostile environment like LSU) I still feel confident that Brantley will do well, especially with Tebow in his ear giving him tips and inspiration. But will it be enough? LSU fans have undoubtedly gone to their usual low in getting the phone numbers of Brantley a few other gator players and even Urban Meyer. Taunting text messages have been blowing up their cell phones for days. Why is this necessary? And will it un-nerve my Gators into playing poorly? I HOPE NOT!

The question is...is Tebow 100% normal and will the insane noise at LSU aid in the return of his concussion symptoms? Well...no one knows for sure and to be on the safe side, I'd rather see Brantley taking the snaps to ensure a full recovery for Tebow. But I guess we will see tomorrow. No doubt I will be extremely nervous watching this game.

The Huskers won Thursday in a battle of top 25 teams and a key match up in the Big 12 North.

Ndamukong Suh gets better with every game... he leads the team in tackles with 32 (as a defensive tackle!), 7 tfls, 3 sacks, an interception, 7 deflections, 2 hurries, and a forced fumble. He had a key interception against Missouri after having dropped another just a few plays earlier. An amazing fourth quarter pushed us past Mizzou. Coming into the fourth quarter we were down 12-0. We ended up winning 27-12 (we didn't convert a two point try). Within the span of three and a half minutes we scored 20 points and picked off two passes (against a QB who hadn't thrown a pick yet this season). We could have had 6 picks if we could have held onto the ball.

Notables:
1. Each team had over a 100 yards in penalties
2. Roy Helu Jr. (our halfback) and Jacob Hickman (our center) played ill
3. The scoreboards play clock was out
4. Each team punted 8 times
5. Nebraska muffed 3 punts (one hit a blockers heel and the other two were our punt returners)

Whew! Florida came away with a victory in Baton Rouge. We snapped LSU's winning streak at home, at night. It was a hard win for the Gators. Tebow played most of the game as a less aggressive QB. I was happy to see him play, but every time he took a hit, my heart stopped momentarily. He played the entire game and there were moments when we saw the old Tim Tebow come out and run for yards with no fear. I suspect our next game against Arkansas will be more productive.

Tebow wasn't allowed to watch TV, read or practice in anyway for most of the two weeks since his concussion. He started light practice early this past week and wasn't cleared to play until before the game. With Tebow not being able to fully practice like normal I think he did an awesome job.

But much of the credit goes to our offensive line. The front 5 really stepped up and protected Tebow. The receivers and backs put more of the game on their shoulders and less on Tebows'.

Our defense...well what can I say. There's a reason they are #1 in the country! The score wasn't impressive, but watching the Gators come together and protect one of their own sure was! Great Job Gators!!

Florida 13 LSU 3

Miami had a blow out game against Florida A&M. I wasn't able to watch it but I'm sure glad they won...and they won BIG!

Miami 48 Florida A&M 16

Bama did great as usual. Beating the Ole Miss Rebels Saturday. Bama has the #2 defense in the country and it showed. McElroy is shaping up to be a great QB for Bama and a real asset to their team.

Bama 22 Ole Miss 3

Well, as was posted above, Florida beat LSU last night. It really was a pretty boring game. I was there yelling, but it still was not even near the excitement of the game two years ago. Florida played really well, and I want to commend their offensive and defensive line. Defensively the Tigers played really well. We only gave up 13 points, 6 of which were because of a blown coverage, and Florida started in great field position almost every time. Our offense, however, was horrible. We just could not move the ball, now a lot of credit needs to go to the Florida defense, but our offense just shot themselves in the foot over and over again. The play calling was bad (especially on a crucial 4th and 1 when we ran a shotgun pass even though we had only completed like 2 passes the whole game). Watching LSU play offense last night was pathetic. The O-line got ripped apart over and over again, and jordan jefferson spent so much time getting sacked he never really had a chance to throw a good pass. Now the Tigers have to win out so we can face florida again in the SEC championship, and hopefully win this time...

Fun Fact: The last time LSU lost a home saturday night game was vs. UF in 2003; LSU went on to win the national championship that year...maybe its a good omen.
HJP/HJG_TrueLove
You know that Ndamukong Suh guy I've mentioned quite a bit, you should learn the name now. At the Defensive Tackle position is considered a Heisman candidate (or at the very least the MOP in the country) by several analysts and major publications.

Here are some examples:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writ...atch/index.html

Those are a few... Espn and Sports Illustrated were down in Lincoln this morning interviewing Suh

He leads the number 2 scoring defense and the 13th overall defense in tackling, tfls, sacks, passes defended (7... sixth in the country), tied for interceptions, and tied for forced fumbles.

Coach Pelini has said on more than one occasion that he is a better player than Glenn Dorsey (all american, outland, nagurski, lott, and bednarik award winner at LSU).

plus following the Missouri game he was named Big 12 defensive player of the week, walter camp national defensive player of the week, and Lott impact player of the week. Today, he was named a semi finalist for the Lombardi trophy.

I want to clear one thing up, no I don't think he is going to win the Heisman... but I do think he is the most outstanding player in the nation. He is considered the top DT in the country by many as well as the overall top draft pick next year. If you have never seen this man play I highly recommend it. He is quickly revolutionizing the DT position.
lancelot243
That guy is awesome. He very well may be the best player in the country; hes certainly the best defensive tackle in college football, but to say hes a legitimate heisman candidate is absurd. The only prominently defensive player to ever win a heisman was charles woodson(1997) from michigan, and he returned punts/kickoffs and also caught a few tds from receiver. That suh dude is awesome, but DTs dont win heismans

Most heisman campaigns by Husker fans are more or less just to get him recognition. Basically when we say Suh for Heisman (at least in my perception) it's more of a Suh for Outland even though I'm sure there are Husker fans out there that think he has a legitimate shot.

Haha last year Suh did have one TD catch (does that count for something? just kidding), he plays fullback in some short yardage situations for us because he simply bulldozes everyone and makes huge holes.

From what I heard College Game Day is going to be doing a special on him in the first hour tomorrow, unfortunately I have a volleyball tournament so I'll miss it, hopefully it gets put on youtube!

I hope he gives Texas Tech's qb a real rough time tomorrow along with the line and backs.
HJP/HJG_TrueLove
The first half of the Husker game just ended... We're down 24-3 at the half. I feel like I'm watching the Huskers under Bill Callahan. No heart on offense. One one play our Qb threw a lateral pass that was dropped and the only Husker player that even attempted to chase down the Texas Tech defender on his way to 6 points was the QB... the receiver that dropped it and a couple lineman stood there or walked the other way... it was ridiculous.

Our offensive play calling is much too conservative... our only pass plays are thrown two yards or less. We also need a quarterback change... Zach Lee without the excuse of horrible rain is not playing well. I hope we put Cody Green in and let him run all over the defense and if Shawn Watson at offensive coordinator doesn't start making smart calls he needs to go. He was one of the only remnants of the coaching purge that ended the Bill Callahan era.

We were lucky to get away with a win last week and because we could never score a TD against VT we lost the game by one point. The Husker offense is average at best.

The game just ended... 31-10... our only td came on a throw from our backup Cody Green to a practically unused wide receiver with about 7 minutes left.

Last year when Texas Tech was super high in the rankings we went to overtime... this year we get mentally and physically dominated. We never had a chance, fans will be complaining about all the horrible calls tomorrow but even the large number of awful calls couldn't have won us that game. We just were out played on almost every play and the final score shows just that.

I would have liked to see Florida drop that game, I hope USC holds on, I wish Texas had lost, I hope Alabama loses but I don't see it... I believe they are easily the best team in college football. I would like to see VT drop as well as Miami just to see other big name teams (especially Notre Dame I really hate them) lose because it would have felt nice after seeing my team lose in such horrific fashion. I don't have anything against any of the other teams although I am extremely sick of the Tebow media love fest. It's kinda like Ndamukong Suh in Nebraska (yes I get sick of it) except for to a larger degree and on a much bigger scale. It's like they wait for them to make a play just so they can talk about them for five minutes for one decent-big play.
HJP/HJG_TrueLove
This is a little bit of a triple post... oops

Nebraska just beat a struggling Oklahoma team 10-3... the only TD was set up by a Nebraska interception (by Prince Amukamara) that went to the 1 and was punched in two plays later. Oklahoma missed three field goals, and Nebraska missed one. Matt O' Hanlon had three interceptions including a game clinching one. He also had a career high tackle total. Suh brought his blocked field goal count up to three for the season (he had two against Iowa State).

This game followed up an absolutely horrible game and a shaky win.

First we lost to Iowa State 9-7. Our offense had eight, yes EIGHT, turnovers. Several of which were in our red zone, some of which were within five yards from scoring.

Last week, under the direction of Cody Green (true freshmen qb making first collegiate start) we beat Baylor 20-10. Jared Crick (Nebraska's other DT) recorded 5 sacks, a school record.
HJP/HJG_TrueLove
Someone else should post... so my now quadruple post doesn't get any bigger!!!... just saying

The Huskers play K-State in Lincoln tonight, the winner will decide the Big 12 North and will take a trip to Dallas to get beat by Texas. I'm gonna be up at tonight's game, it's senior night which adds to the excitement and emotion. This is Ndamukong Suh's last home game along with: Jacob Hickman, Barry Turner, Phillip Dillard, Larry Asante etc. We had a small graduating class of just 14! We have a pretty big and talented Jr. class though. We will definitely miss them. I think we may just have a shut out in the works tonight. But I don't want to jinx my Huskers.

The Huskers took the W 17-3... our 4th or 5th game without allowing a TD.

One of my favorite things about going to the games is you can tell who the fan favorites are... for someone not from Nebraska this might be a little surprising.
1. Ndamukong Suh DT Sr
2. Alex Henrey K (he might even be number 1... we all love this guy!!! Amazing kicker!) Jr
2. Roy Helu Jr. RB Sr
HJP/HJG_TrueLove
First off, I'd like to say congrats to the Crimson Tide! I always knew you were the better team! And, I'd also like to say I'm mentally prepared for the Huskers to lose to Texas... starting in a few minutes. But still the same... Go Huskers!

Huskers lost 13-12 on a last second field goal. We hit a field goal and we kicked it off and it bounced out of bounds, on the next play we got a horse collar tackle, a couple unimportant plays happened. With 7 seconds left Texas snapped Colt McCoy threw it away and the clock initially read :00 but on further review they gave Texas a second and they made a field goal by inches.
HJP/HJG_TrueLove
This is definitely my 6th post in a row... sorry.

The Huskers won the Holiday Bowl 33-0 two nights ago, beating Arizona. It was supposed to be an evenly matched game but the Huskers dominated from the start. On Arizona's first possession Matt O' Hanlon intercepted a pass and brought it back to the 5, two plays later Zac Lee punched it in on a short run (in which Suh played fullback but went the opposite direction, serving as a very effective decoy), this td marked the fastest Holiday Bowl score in history (75 seconds in).

Our next drive we took a 47 yard field goal which Alex Henry nailed, actually he probably had 10-15 more yards on it, it went above the posts. Our next scoring drive (in the sec. quarter) featured the Wildcat formation which saw true freshmen rb rex burkhead under center. In 8 plays (6 of which were runs) we marched 81 yards which ended with a 5 yard td run by Burkhead. Later, we forced a 3 and out got in field goal range and Alex Henry hit a 50 yard field goal (just 1 yard shy of the Holiday Bowl Record.

In the second half Alex Henry hit two more field goals (41 and 22 yards) which broke a Holiday Bowl record. Midway through the third Zac Lee found Niles Paul for a 78 yard td (our longest pass of the season), the celebration by Paul drew an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. In the fourth Arizona had their best drive of the game getting into the red zone but they were unable to convert on 4th down, which secured the shut out.

The defense completely manhandled Arizona's offense. We allowed them just 109 yards on offense (another Holiday bowl record), 51 snaps, and forced 9 punts. Their qb who had been playing well since becoming the starter threw around 30% for 48 yards and an int. Matt O' Hanlon was named defensive MVP and Niles Paul was named Offensive MVP. This was the first Holiday Bowl shutout in history, as well as the first time the Big 12 has shut a team down in a bowl game.

In other Husker football notes:
1. Suh won the Outland, Nagurski, Lombardi, Bednarik, and Bruce Willis Award
2. He was a finalist for the heisman and finished 4th (most votes ever for the 4th place finisher)
3. He is one of 3 consensus all-americans (joining Gerhart and Ingram)
4. First defender to win the AP Player of the Year Award
5. Zac Lee was playing all year with an injured shoulder and will be undergoing surgery soon

Other bowl games I watched:
1. I saw the final quarter of the Humanitarian Bowl... great job Freddy Barnes on breaking the FBS season reception mark (155) but a bigger congrats to the Idaho Vandals who had the guts to go for 2 to avoid OT and ended up winning because of the decision.
2. I saw OT in the Outback bowl... Northwestern had the guts to try and get a TD on 4th down instead of forcing a 2nd OT with a field goal. They faked a field goal and were shoved out of bounds around the 2. Congrats to the Auburn Tigers on the win.
3. I saw the 2nd half of the Capitol One Bowl. I was rooting for the Tigers and I think that personal foul was a horrible call but what can you do. But congrats to the Nittany Lions on the victory.
CLee
That personal foull call was unfortunate (if you are an LSU fan)...but correct! He didn't pull the PSU player away...he dragged him!

If he did nothing, the ref would have stopped the clock to let the pile unfold.

NOW...a waiting game. C'mon Oakland and Cinncy! Win so the Steelers can get in the playoffs!

Guess I didn't see the whole thing, all I saw was the LSU center struggling to get up... finally get up and then fall over again. Thanks for the correction!

Watching the Fiesta Bowl and cheering for the horned frogs!

Game just ended... it was a great game. My thoughts on the last drive are that the def. pass interference call was def. non-existent, I believe the only reason they called it was because the defender didn't make a play on the ball even if there was little to no contact. However, on that final interception I believe the defender arrived a split second early but it was a close call. Guess they cancel out.

Just watched the second half of the Orange Bowl. I think I should have some sort of obligation to route for Iowa because they are just a state away and we never play them so we don't have a rivalry. However, I was rooting for the Yellow Jackets just because I felt Iowa got lucky too often and had to come from behind way too much and I would have liked Georgia Tech to win for that reason but they definitely lost.

So out of total curiosity, who here thinks is going to win this years superbowl?
As neutral as i am, because either team doesn't peak my interest, i feel that the Indianapolis Colts are going to win this. By how much? Who knows.. but the Saints got lucky in the game against the Vikings, therefore i dont know if they're fit to win.
