Hi!
I love writing and I didn't see any threads on writing here. So,I just created this to share stories, ideas, inspiration and stuff like that. I'm gonna do mine later(my parents are kicking me off the computer).

Writing is what I do when I am not either at school, at a friends place, being social or doing endless amounts of homework.... It is just a pastime of mine and it has become a bit of an obsession.

For example- I have a notebook with around 150-200 poems (this notebook was bought in October last year) and I also send them overseas to be viewed and published (I have a medal, a trophy and around 8 poems in random Australian and International anthologies- since I was the age of 9).

I also write short stories and other writing forms (like editorials and such)..... I will post some later- I cant be bothered doing it now- I had a whole 4 hours sleep last night....
felix_felicis_444
I like writing....I just don't like to write on paper. Yeah, you think I am crazy from that last comment, but what I said is what I meant. When I think of things in my head, they sound really good. By the time I sit down and write them, they sound terrible. So, I just do not write the things down anymore. But they sound really good in my head. As much as I hate to admit it, I am a good poem-writer, too. I hate writing them, but all of the ones I have written for school my teachers have loved. Just yesterday I wrote a Shakespearean Sonnet for English class. On the outside, it looks just like a kid who had no friends, but it had a much deeper meaning with a ton of symbolism. It was actually very disturbing...and I warned my teacher....and now I am getting paranoid that she is going to show it to my guidance counselor or something....uggkhh great! I mean, at first it was going to be about a lonely kid who ended up finding a friend and everything was great. But then I thought about it and said to myself, "if this happened in real life, it would not end like this. this just doesnt happen." So, I made it about real-life issues. Cutting, suicide, lonliness, child neglection.....That is what I would like a poem to be about, not mushy stuff that never really happens...

Sorry for boring you all rolleyes.gif

Like David said, I can't write on paper. I had this one fan fic on here that i wrote on paper first, and i put a lot of posts mind you, but nobody, not a single person replied. I was heart broken, because I thought the idea for the story was quite interesting to me, but apparently, no one caught on. My spontaneous stories have been far more succesful. My forte is writing about sadness, and depression, fear. All the sad stuff. I love to write pseudo-poems. They are like poems in story form, and they don't have to rhyme (i suck at rhyming anyway). They are my favorite. I used to have a talent for short stories, and i was published in the National American Anthology of Short Stories in 2002. I think in 2001, i was in the poem one, but i am not sure. i have memory loss issues (just kidding).

quite an interesting topic,

I always used to write about feeling down on yourself and life is so on me and crap, like the real issues of self mutilation, but I don't swing that way anymore....

My latest poem, was "Before the Dawn", which is basically about sitting on a yatch the moment before sunrise and watching the playful colours in the sky and ocean......I think that is beauty. You may call it mushy, and I am not going to strike offense as it is your opinion, but I feel that the most beautiful things in life are the simplest. One day I walked to the outback (when I was visiting my home town) as it is surrounded by hundreds of kilometres of bush, and watched with a chair, pen and paper. I sat there for hours writing about a dozen poems...ones about the simple dance of a locust, one about the playful movements of a kangaroo (australia's GREATEST pest- but I still find them gorgeous), and the intiguing laugh of a kookabura...

I see life for what it really is...LIFE, and nothing more, which is why I have been so successful in my writings.

Lynn
I'm writing my own book, together with my best friend smile.gif
written we have 328 pages, and now we're doing all stuff on the comp and we have 217 pages so far.. It started out in science class, when we were bored by our stupid teacher. we decided to go writing. It's about a girl whose sisters are killed and she has to find out who did it and why because the murderer might be after her...
haha it's good fun to do and when we're finished we're gonna send it to a publisher. so guys maybe I'm gonna be a famous author. tongue.gif
mxnhpfreak
Oh Lynn! I hope you don't forget about us when you get to be famous! lol tongue.gif

Truth be told, I sometimes tend to block... why? I have no idea, but sometimes I just have these wonderful ideas floating all over my brain... and the moment I want to write them, I realize I have no idea where to start.

It's not like David and Nympahdora's problem, though. I don't forget about my ideas, the thing is that sometimes I don't know how to express them... but my feelings, I believe, can be really strong at times.

But odd enough, I can write songs! although they're not actually songs, as long as there's no actual music for them, I think they might be considered as poems...

I can't play any instrument (sadly) but I do have ideas of what would the song sound like. Even though I can't actually write the music, but I do write good lyrics. Or at least that's what I've been told tongue.gif

Sometimes my brain sort of wakes up and those times are precisely the ones I use to write, because those are the times when I can truly express myself.

Does that make sense?
Ginevra
I mostly write fantasy stories, bu the longest so far is 50 pages.

I'm writing a story with my friend too, but we just started a couple days ago(my 8 year old brother wants to have a contest, using that story-really he and his friend don't have much of a chance).

This is a really intresting topic! Really, I have not heard of anyone on this site who does not like to write. I guess Rowling must have inspired so many people. Writing is so much fun! Even if your writing is not great, or has no point to it, you always feel sort of proud to have writtten it. I know that I sometimes write things that even put myself to sleep, but I always don't care, I am just glad to have written it. As being an eleven year old, I do not write much long stories, but do write small things that make me feel good to write. Which is what writting is all about, I think, how it makes you feel. I think there should be a section on this site to write short stories about anything, cause everyone here loves Harry Potter and all, but sometimes you want to get a brake from one topic and write about anything. It is sort of hard writing about wizards and witches and those kinds of things when we didn't make up the world, so we don't really know if everything fits. I know everyone has their own strong and weak points, and some people maybe write better when they make up everything for the story, not go by a baseline of things like witches and wizards. Well, some people might hate my idea, but I don't know. I rather like it (duh, I made it). But, yah, writing is so much fun!

Writing has become a near obsession for me. I do nearly nothing else and as much as I can, I'm always writing. I'm subscribed to writers digest, I own Writers market, I'm currently looking to get my stuff published etc. etc.

It's really difficult for a newcoming writer to get out there, particuclarily one has young as me, but I have to do it, for some reason. Don't ask me why smile.gif

I have writen 1 fanfic, which is published on this site, and I started on a book, but its way to short to be published. Its about 50 pages handwritten, and my handwriting is HUGE. I have plenty of idea's and imagination, and my English teacher said that I have a lot of potental as a writer (when I get my spelling and grammer sorted).
I don't like writing non-fiction and poems much. I like thinking up the plots.
My mum had a load of articles published in magazines.

I write constantly: and Ginevera knows that, don't you? I write fiction, mostly fantasy. I write abuot magic, period. I have a hard time sticking things on paper. My friend is a published author and is really good. I have a buch of names I use.

In my stories I interperte magical beings differently. I think that Merpeople are barbarians. There are 5 types of dragons: Moutian, Fire, Forest, Water and Ice. Moutain dragons are the most common, a dull black or brown and are not very bright. All the other dragons are capable of near human intellegence. Fire dragons are any where from a burgundy to a crimsion and perfer volcanic areas. Forest dragons are ethier a green or blue green and live in forested areas. Water dragons are blue, smaller and live in smaller seas, clashing with the merpeople. The Ice dragons are white whith red eyes and are the rarest of the dragons. They live in an icy climate near large snow-covered moutains. Ice dragons are my favorite. My favorite race of people are ethier the elves or the SHADES! The Shades aren't bad, they have a contract with evil demonic sources to give any child with magical talent to them in exchange for protection. Their temple called the Labarynth of Black Marble was turned into a torchure chamber where people wander in the Labaryth only to be killed and eaten by the Gollems that stack your head on the altar and eat the body. Any questions or comments send me a messege on my page and give me your user.

Well, considering you said to place your works on here, I thought to add this poem I whipped up because it was storming outside.

The Weathered Vail

The weathered vail of love often finds
the discontinuity of man's most valued organ
interfereing in matters intended to be interfered,
ignoring the light of life's kollmorgen.

Professor Igenproud is compelled to question
as the drapes overlooking a darkened sky are lifted.
"Are we so indifferent to thunder; so arrogant
to ignore the clouds she has shifted?"
He who feels the passion of the weathered vail,
in soaking rain and scorching hail,

"No matter, for time goes on for those incapable
of rendering their heart free in freedom's time
when emotion is in context's: inescapable."
So the thunder strikes a final note
with her fingers whethered by immortal prayer
and the sky in which she wrote.

-thesolitaryone-

Hehe...well, I enjoyed writing it, not overly satisfied with the outcome (as it isn't entirely constant), but I liked the meaning- relating a storm to those who have suppressed their emotions.- It is only short- I would have wished it to be longer, but the homework of senior year is catching up to me...

Oh, Professor Igenproud is a fictional character I invented. He is a writer and a philosopher (the two which I wish to be when I'm older- I am studying those in uni next year- if I can get in). He is sort of ironic- The term professor is often placed with nerds who teach science- contrasing.....

Oh....and I havn't mispelled weathered and whethered- I used them in a different context, that's all----this is, of course, to those who cannot see the connotations to poetry.

Greetings. Everyone is welcome to visit My Webpage and download my free book titled Witchcraft, Premonitions & the Emerald Globe Caper. Here is a short description.

Blend the magic of witchcraft with the mystery of ghosts, spirits and premonitions, then add the excitement of a robbery investigation with a crisis that could affect the fate of Earth and finally sprinkle in a little romance between a lonely sixteen year old boy and girl and you have Witchcraft, Premonitions & the Emerald Globe Caper.

A desperate family flees England for America, only to have their whereabouts uncovered two hundred and forty years later when the theft of an emerald globe exposes their location. A wicked witch disrupts the communication between the members of the Galactic Inspiration Society and the planet Earth. Only two lonely teenagers stand in the way of an evil sorcerer from accomplishing total magical domination, destroying their family and eliminating the ingenuity of all Earthlings. Can the teenagers reveal the secrets hidden inside the home at number 10 Witch Hemlock Court in time to save their family and the planet Earth? Will the imagination of the teens be enough to overcome the experience and treachery of their enemies? Not even a level ten seer can predict the outcome.

My book is meant for readers thirteen years or older, and especially for fans of Fantasy novels.

The Table of Contents and first chapter can also be viewed prior to donwloading the entire book for free in pdf format.

Enjoy

Hello magicwriter, and welcome to VTM!

If you like Harry Potter, you've come to the right place. There are so many different things you can discuss, from the way that magic works to your favourite TV series.

A great place for newcomers to start is Newbies Central, which contains the Introduction Thread which is a good place to go to find out who everyone is.

Another useful place is the Support Forum where you can find answers to questions related to the Veritaerum site and its features and functions.

One such function is the handy Search button (the flashlight icon at the top), the quickest way to find topics and discussions that may interest you. If you want to know how to use the search engine most effectively, click here.

All members can start new topics, but I'd like to ask you before you start a topic of your own to please read the Rules and check if someone hasn't started a topic on your subject already, and to make sure that you place your topic in the correct Forum. Reading through the Rules section helps you to avoid mistakes and will keep the Moderators from having to step in. For instance, you may put links to websites in your signature, but it is against the rules to place ads in your post.

Last but not least, if there is anything you need feel free to PM me or any mod or prefect. We're here to help you have a good time on VTM!

Happy posting!
Daniel Potter
I am an aspiring author. I am in the process of finishing my fanfic here on VTM (link can be found in my siggy).
I am aso wring a book (I wont reveal the title) which I find is coming along very nicely. Here is an excerpt:

"You do not know
What I know.

You cannot see
What I see

You do not dream
What I dream

You are not as aware of this force
As I am...

....Therefore,
You can fight this."

I write a lot...i have poems and actual stories...my longest story is 79 pages...um...i'll give you an excerpt of A Fairy Tale

Many stories begin with the phrase “once upon a time,” though most are fairy tales. Well, this story you are reading is, in a way, a fairy tale, so it is only fair for it to follow the tradition, but what if it didn’t? What if no fairy tales started with “once upon a time?” What would the world be like? No worries, though, as this story starts with the traditional saying. So, without further ado, here we go.
Once upon a time, in a faraway land called Rhine, there was a powerful king called William, and his fair queen, Anna, who had just given birth to a beautiful baby girl called Emma. The parents were overjoyed and the whole kingdom celebrated the baby’s birth.
Anna’s mother journeyed to watch over her granddaughter while her parents went to find some giants that were rumored to be in the eastern border of the kingdom when Emma was 6 months old.
The grandmother was happy to have time to spend with her granddaughter. But then tragedy struck. Not even a month after the royal parents left, news came that the pair was killed by a pack of ferocious ogres on their way to the east.
Emma’s grandmother had no time to mourn, as she had to have all her stuff brought over to Rhine, so she could watch over the young child. Grandmother was all Emma had left now.
NickHilton
I write loads of poetry which can be found here just keyword Nick Hilton to have a look. Most of my stories are shorts with some possible exceptions, i am writing a novel at the moment, the first bit of which can be found on Poemhunter (called The Cobobulation Tales-Part 1).
thesolitaryone
This is the one I just sent to Noble House in England because for some reason they wanted it. It was a really hot day is Aus then, and so I wrote about it. No, there are no typos, it is all legit, even though it may seem though there are. I know I have written better, but I had a deadline.
Lesson Ten: Always look below the surface.
(I've written a list of lessons about how I think etc.)

Summer Heat

The heat of the summer,
On a warm summer’s morning;
The sun of Australians before us,
And the light they were adorning.

To reach rhythm in the sky
In a hot summer’s summer,
God’s powerful claws snatch
At the heat drum’s strummer.

So what before us in the summer mourn?
40 degrees in the shade(if any is found),
A day to wander aimlessly alive
On the sun-scorched ground.

Though the flowers flourish and thrive,
While we are left to die,
Melancholy sees the withered doom
‘Til Winter passes by.

We see no light, we see no trees,
In the eyes of a winter scotopia,
The summer heat of a summer day;
The Winter’s blinded utopia.

The days last the winter months,
Our feet as parched as the soil,
Summer’s prayer; soliloquy;
“Oh great god of Summer’s toil”
*Quidditch Princess*
Oh, I love writing! I have started like five stories, but only 1 is finished. Once, I entered my finished story in some contest and I actually won first place! They are mostly fantasy, though the one I'm working on right now is realistic fiction. If anyone wants, I can PM you a story I am working on. Just PM me asking and I'll be glad to share!

Hmm...Sorry about this. I had a poem in this post but decided not to keep it, as it is in the song/poetry writers thread.

I like where that story is going... I would really love to read it sometime!

I have a question:does anyone here know how to send a book to get it published huh.gif ? I have a story that is probably gonna be 70 or 80 pages when it's done and the internet can't or won't( sad.gif )tell me how to get a book published.(it's a really awful story, but still I swore to myself that I would at least try)

Easy question with a complicated answer, Ginerva. You'll need to find the addresses of several publishers (since you never want to send something to just one publisher). I'd request a catalogue from them, so you can see what kinds of things they publish, get some inside information and such. It will tell you who to submit what kinds of things to. You'll also need to find out how they accept manuscripts-some publishers just want the first chapter, some want the whole thing. You'll often need a letter of intent to accompany your manuscript filled with what it is, basic plot, genre and all that jazz. Patience and persistence is quite key. Some publishers won't accept things that don't come through a literary agent, so make sure you check that they'll accept direct from authors, too.

Hope that helps you some. . . Best of luck!
NickHilton
O.k. Ginevra there are a few different types of publishers:

Corporate Publishers: Like Bloomsbury, Chicken House, Penguin...etc. Send them a copy, you'll want to contact several publishers. I'm guessing your relatively young, i could be wrong if so correct me, so tell them your age. Publishers are huning for talented kid authors, see Christopher Paulini and someother girl.

Freelance Publishers: These will make you pay for them to publish, but it's a good way of getting recognised. It dosn't cost too much and i can put you in touch with one if you'd like.

I recommend sending of your manuscript to several corporate publishers, then if that fails, try a freelance publisher.

Good Luck, and PM me if you need any other help.
Snapelover
Yeah, Janet said it best. You have to research the publisher as well as if they want an agent. Everything I have read says that most publishers will not accept Un solicited documents. Meaning, they only accept works from agents. Many of the larger companies do that. Some even will not want any script, just a letter on intent and word count. Most publishers consider a story to be complete after 80,000 or 110,000 words. 300,000 is usually too long. rolleyes.gif

I have a greta book entitled; The Everything Guide to Writing a Novel by Joyce and Jim Lavene. It really maps out step by step process to help write and also to get published. I love it.
Jedi Master Doug Eric
Wow, lots of writers here. I never really liked to write before now, but this past summer (summer '05) I had an idea for a book and since then I've started many others. I haven't finished any, but I'm definately aiming to have the first one finished by this summer. (Hopefully)
They're all going to be standard length (100,000 words or so).
The first one is a murder mystery. It's titled 'Putting the Laughter Back in Manslaughter'.
Yes, I do have a morbid sense of humor. It all started with Monty Python...Anyway, if anyone is interested, I'll post the other titles, if you'd like to read about a few of the books I'm writing, check out http://www.dougyonline.com/books/books.html. If you want to read an excerpt from PTLBIM, just let me know and I'll PM it to you. Beware, it's long. smile.gif
passerby
Ginerva, I can't believe I forgot to mention this in my last post, but you can also buy a "Writer's Market Guide" from any of those big chain bookstores (check the reference section). That will tell you where to send your inquiry, what they require, and even what they publish. Even if you can't buy one, you should go check it out. Check your library for it, too. They update them yearly, so make sure you look at the 2006 edition.
goginnygrlpower
Yeah, I love writing, it was probably Harry that got me started. i am currently writing a novel, it wouldn't be a fan fiction, but i think they beed a thread to post other things HP obbsessed people write, I think its really good so far, ive taken notes from JK rowling. If there is, i'll find it eventually. Thanks for asking...

Just some more boredom poetry....

Winter Quarters

My life a birdsong in the city,
A whisper of beauty, unnoticed, uncared.
An expectation for brilliance, however marred
By the teeth of circumstance forever bared.

What light beguiled my dreams?
My sense of awareness stripped: defenseless,
A sudden weakness, no room for hope,
Emotional break, leaving me senseless.

I never earned my eternity in darkness,
The right to be deemed pessimistic,
I sought the truth, uncovered the lies,
However, my outlook far from optimistic.

My ghost, my self, my intimate stranger,
Watching from below the Willow trees,
No more a symbol of protection, hope, light;
Just another wave on these crippling seas.

Close comes the day I must make this choice,
However pressure so hardily sways,
A fool’s legacy: Fight or Flight,
My eyes meet Death’s perfidious gaze.

Nevertheless, darkness prevails,
As life credits my disgrace,
Once again I shall be reverently free,
To curl in death’s blissful embrace.

Kells bells
I have started writing a novel. i sort of mentioned in a throw away comment that i would right a book oneday to my friend, who sort of pounced on me -
"Oh My GOSH! You so have to! Right, by the end of this week you will have a plot sorted, and figured out some characters. Then... [Insert huge amount of similar bossy paragraphs here]... right?"
So now I'm writing a book. On pain of death. It's really fun though, and it's going well. I'll have more time to wrie after my exams, I'll have a really long summer holiday this year. I'm slightly worried about the work count, I don't do long reams and reams. I'm hoping for 60,000 words. Is that a sensible amount?
Poetry, my poetry is cracking up able. I rarely take it seriously enough to do anything good. For example, our English teacher told us to write a poem about an animal (we had been studying animal poetry in class) so while everyone did all the cute animals, you know, peacocks, tiger cubs, rabbits, so I just desided there and then
"I'm doing a leech!"
So I did -

The leech

Black slime oozes its path,
Across naked, helpless skin,
Unstopped by nothing but a petrol bath,
Sucking blood from within.

Some animals are cute, fluffy and sweet
Tiger cubs and bears and foxes seduce,
Koala’s, monkeys, lambs as they bleat
Unlike these though, the leech has a use.

Used in good ol’ times of yore,
For medicine and remedies and healing,
Helps us still, behind a doctors door,
But we still can’t look without keeling.

What if the leech for survival must fight?
Or else may be extinct, dead, deceased,
No one cares about the slime-balls plight,
For it is on our skins that they do feast.

White tigers slaughter Bambi,
The snow leopard munches on Eyeore,
But if they chewed on you or me,
That species is no more.

Like I said, I don't take poetry seriously enough to do it well.
felix_felicis_444
Kells bells-- that leech poem was great! Believe me, I would never be able to write such a great poem on something as simple as a leech!

Anyway, I wrote this poem last month out of anger. I was furious with my friend, who I got into a pretty big fight with, because he always tries to control everybody and thinks he is the best of the best. rolleyes.gif Well, I did not know how to release my anger, so I did it through this poem. I called it "Munity?"...somewhat of a play on the words 'immunity' and 'mutiny'...yeah, it got so bad that I wanted to just kick him out. laugh.gif It had some -- urr -- bad words in it, so I replaced it with more subtle ones tongue.gif ...So here it is:

Munity?

How do you get rid of an unwanted pest,
Whose friendship has been feigned the very best?
Do you let them down easily? Or let them suffer the pain
Of not knowing how to properly play the game?
They think they're the man, the great big honcho,
But you throw them in the rain without a jacket nor a poncho.
Badly you feel, but what can you do!?
PLEASE learn the game, just a thing or two.

rolleyes.gif It makes me mad just by reading it. Here is another one that I made up years ago in 4th grade. We had these projects where we had to find a poem from a poem book, and try to copy the style in our own poem. I thought this one was cute, so here you go! For those of you who are poem fanatics, it is based on Shel Silverstien's "Sorry I spilled It"...

Dress the Salad!

The lettuce wore a hat,
The tomato had a shoe,
The radish had a t-shirt on,
which was colored green and blue.
The cucumber wore a bow tie,
The peppers wore a vest...
Then I toss them altogether,
and now my salad's dressed.

Pathetic? Yup! But I was only in 4th grade! Plus, I never said I was a good poet, anyway dry.gif

I've loved writing since I was a little girl. I mostly wrote short stories for Reflections (a contest elementary schools have every year). I also enjoy poetry to a certain degree, especially if it's in song. I can't rhyme worth beans but I can write poetry that doesn't require rhyming. Later on, I began writing longer stories.

Kells bells: I'm writing a novel too! I'm not very far into it, which is pathetic really because I've been working on it since I was fifteen but when school starts up, writing goes practically beneath my notice because I don't have much time for it. It's five years in the making but one of these days I'll finish it.

Actually, 60,000 words doesn't sound like much. How is it coming, anyway?

Capricorn
I like writing, but my fanfic is still in its infancy, and I'm finding it hard to wrap my head around the elaborate plot that once made sense to me.

Anyway, poetry I really do just for fun when something happens that is worth struggling with, with a pencil and a note pad. Something like that happened today involving a piece of Brahms and the approaching winter, and this is what I came up with...

Violin Lesson

It bites, gnaws, pokes at me
like a merciless bully,
but with violin in hand
and scarf and jacket I push on
- my moment has come!

I step sharply through grey shadows
and misty colours of cold,
but my heart is full and
I have to push on
- my moment has come!

The wooden instrument trembles
in its case, its strings taught
with expectancy, so I fight
the cold and push on
- its moment has come!

At the door we wait,
as feeble rays mock us.
The sun is cold and heartless
but we pity it. Our heart is full
- our moment has come!

And as we wait, the world
awakes and a murmer rises
that steals our solitude - I wonder...
until the digital answer kills:
"No lesson today."

Hmm, not Shakespeare, but I feel better now that it's found its way out of my system... tongue.gif

I have always loved to write! Ever since I was tiny. I'm working on a chapter book, (fantasy, of course!) its about these three teenage girls who are on this quest basically to stop this evil guy who's using hypnotism to take over. Me and my sister started it about a year ago, but then she sort of ditched it for another story, and I took over. I'm on the six chapter. All of the poems and stuff people have put up are great. I have never really been that good at poetry, but recently a wrote a few, but they didn't make much since.
Does anyone know if there is anything like a part on the forum were someone can start a story and each person adds on to it? making a long story by a whole bunch of people? If not I think someone should start one and I dont know how to. happy.gif

Kells bells
My story uses hypnosis too!
But it's not a fantasy...it's more of an actiony sort of book, and kind of scary. And mine involves 3 teenagers, although ones a guy, and they the older end of teenage, the youngest is 17, then ones 19 and ones 20.
There is a thread where different people add to the story, but it is Harry Potter related on the fanfiction section and it is somewhat, um, wierd. It's actually hilarious, there is a chicken obsession, (well there used to be) that I think I started, and...yeah it's just crazy. Practically everyone randomly turns into animals and well...I'll find the link somewhere...

Does anyone know if there is anything like a part on the forum were someone can start a story and each person adds on to it? making a long story by a whole bunch of people? If not I think someone should start one and I dont know how to. happy.gif

I think I saw one of those once but it had been locked...maybe you should put that suggestion in the Suggestions forum-thingy...it would be really fun biggrin.gif !

I have a greta book entitled; The Everything Guide to Writing a Novel by Joyce and Jim Lavene. It really maps out step by step process to help write and also to get published. I love it.

I really like it too, I just got it today and I really like it! THank you, Snapelover!

I love writing. I am working on 3 fantasy novels and a fantasy series. I start stories by making all the characters first. I do the physical description like eye, hair, and skin type. Then in a separate notebook I do the big description like the persons family and friends, their personality, where they live, their intro ect.

My titles are:
Flying High This is about a 16 year old who is home schooled until that is made illegal and she and her older sister Camile are sent to a boarding school in California. There she is given the power to communicate with seagulls. Carolin is then tracked down by an assassin...

Wild Horses 16 year old Ali Thrall loves to ride her silver mare Star on her family’s isolated ranch in Wyoming. She goes to the store for her mom and finds that the governor, Thomas Smith, and the head of Education, Jhon Philips, will be inspecting every house hold within the month. At their visit, Jhon decides that Louise and Patric are irresponsible parents Ali and her 18 year old sister, Amber, will be taken into custody. Fearing for Star, Ali runs away in the night. Her disappearance makes it to the press and she is on the run for her life. She meets a dying woman who Ali comforts in her last moments. The woman thanks her by giving her the gift of communication with horses. With her new found power Ali must save her friends before they are separated, forever.

Full Moon Fright Emma, a human, Iggy, a kimono dragon, Ami, a wolf hound, Star, a tabby cat, and Diamey, a chameleon, are known as Changers. They change shape at the full moon and when they are frightened. They have been together since they were all outlawed. They soon find that a group known as the Hunters is searching for them. They want to know how to become Changers. Fearing for their freedom the groups begin a game of hair raising cat and mouse. Will they keep their freedom?

My series title is called Stories of Salzone. There will be 4 books with 8 or 9 separate books from other view points.

Stories of Salzone 11 year old Arry is shocked when on a walk in the woods a magnificent purple stone appears before her. She is even more surprised when it opens and reveals a baby dragon whom she names Amistah. During the spring festival her best friend, Alex, is kidnapped by the King. Her teacher, Brock, then takes her and her friends Emma, Amy, Casty, and Samantha with their own dragons on a journey to the Elf’s home land of Dana Stalday. There they meet the sole heir of the throne, Serenity, and discover the wonderful uses of magic. During there quest they will be attacked by the most evil of creatures, Cears, and haunted by the shadows of a dead elven prince while searching for one of the rarest items, the Dragons Pearl.

That was just a taste of book 1. I might do book 2 later. Well that’s all for now.

Does any writers here worry? Even though you love writing do you feel you might be wasting your time? You only get one life, is it too much of a risk by writing a book that may never be published. That's how i sometimes feel...

You hit the nail on the head, adamross. I do worry that I might give up on my fanfic because it will never be published and because I know that I should be writing something that is entirely my own instead. But I have made a promise to myself that writing my fanfic is good exercise, and so far it has been a lot of fun too. The unpublishability doesn't bother me, it serves its purpose as long as I do get some feedback (why else put it on the Internet at all! So, people, hint hint . . .) and it does allow me to combine my appreciation of Jo Rowling's work with some theories of my own about magic.

i love to write. i helps with my imagination and to think about other things. i only usually write when i'm at school, which i'm not since it's summer, yea! and when i am at home or when i feel inspired. writing is a way to express yourself emotionally, mentally, and maybe physically. like one of my teachers always said "writing is thinking!"

hehe, i think i suck at writing tongue.gif . i can never finish stories without going, 'oh my gosh this is such a lame idea for a story...why did i ever start writing this story in the first place???'. haha yup that's me. but i do write song lyrics and poems...actually, it's a bit depressing, the poems and lyrics i mean. they are mostly sad ones, and i get inspiration from my favorite bands/artists who write their own songs. i must keep working on my writing style, it must be happier, i must make happy poems/lyrics! tongue.gif

I've written 3 fanfics and 1 of them is complete but I wrote it when I was 13 so it isn't very good; my co-writer posted that one on some HP site and everyone trashed it, oh well.

I was in process of writing a Lord of the Rings fan fic but I got stuck and I've just re-read it a few days ago and it's really lame too, I'm thinking of writing it all over again.

I also was in the middle of writing a fan fic with one of my best friends but she went to live to Ireland and I got busy with school so that was the end of that.

And I am currently writing a fan fic about Rupert Grint and as always, I got stuck.

Do you have any ideas of how I could get inspired?

I've tried listening to music and it got me going for about 1 chapter and I found myself on another dead end.

What do you guys do for inspiration?

My advice is to decide what you want to happen before you do anything. After that you should asemble your characters. Figure out who is who. Once you do that make a plot line. Something like who meets who, what___ does ____ ect. THEN start writing. Thats how I write and it works for me. With that I got *counts on fingers* at least 15 books started. I am on the plot line part for most of them. I also find that when I draw scenes it works well. Thats my advice. hope it helps!
Happy 4th of July!

My cousin is going to college next year adn he is going to write a novel for my brother, my sister, me and the rest of my cousins. He has the entire plot worked out and everything except for character names. He doesn't want to use real world names, but can't come up with any fantasy ones. How do you suggest is the best way to make up names?(sorry if this question sounds kinda dumb, you can ignore it if you like...)

[Edited by Jordan]
Excessive use of line breaks. It unecessarily distorts the page. Very few break symbols will suffice and efficiently get your point across.
Urik Burik

wellz, for me i usually think of my favorite names. i use names that also have something to do with everyday life, like if its a good character, its usually the name of one of my close friends and if its a bad character, it may be the name of my enemies (or seeing as i dont have any enemies, names i dont like).
oh wait unless you mean like fantasy fantasy names like completely made up ones. i usually just think of a really funny [yet coool tongue.gif] name and the first name that pops into my mind i use. wellz, thats just me, but hehe my names usually suck, hehe but im sure other peoples have better names than me, hahaha tongue.gif

im not a writer type person. my friends and i (*pretty in punk*) write little odd stories. we wrote one about pirates and ninjas. funny stories. we came out with parts 1-3 i think.

I have started writing a book last year, but i lost my inspiration after 20 small chapters and i realised that the plot was disfunctional! I've written some poems too but i'm best at writing songs. I love my songs, i wish i could saw them at a record company...
