1. Mrs. Dursley spyed on the neighbors very often, stated in the first or second paragraph. Now wouldn't you think she'd notice something about Mrs. Figg.
2. Dumbledores nose is stated to have looked like it was broken twice, how?
3. Dumbledores scar of the London Underground, how?
4. "I would trust Hagrid with my life", Dumbledore. Did he already, or did he plan to later on?
5. Mrs. Figg broke her leg on Mr. Tibbles, who is this cat really, and why is he mentioned so often.
6. Harry's hair incident, in which his hair grows back after Mrs. Dursley cut it all off. Does this mean he is a metamorphagus already?
7. "I'm surprised Voldemort never tried to get the Potters on his side", Hagrid. Did Voldemort try? Perhaps thats why Lily didn't "have" to die. Perhaps thats the clue in the third movie, by Lupin "She saw beauty in people that no one else could.". Maybe she forgave Voldemort?
8. McKinnons, Bones, and Prewetts were all killed by Voldemort. Were the McKinnons ever mentioned again? The Bones and Prewetts were mentioned.
9. Hagrid does Human Transfiguration on Dudley. How did he know how? Thats sixth year education, he stopped in his third.

1. Mrs. Figg doesn't live directly next door. I was led to believe she lives a few houses down.
2. Well, probably has two little humps in it, if you will. It is quite possible, I assure you. I've seen it happen.
3. The thing with Dumbledore is that everything seems more magical that usual. There's no telling how he got that scar. It could be very tiny, and so it only looks like the Underground when magnified or something weird like that.
4. He's just saying that he trusts Hagrid wholly and completely, no matter what his bloodline or how big he is.
5. Mrs. Figg, I believe, uses Mr. Tibbles as a spy for her.
6. I'm sure Voldemort did. We know still little about the Potter's past, so the reason could be many things. But I seriously doubt she forgave Voldemort for anything.
7. What do you mean by "already"? You can't turn into a Metamorphagus just like that. It's something you're born into. Harry is a wizard. His hair is very stubborn, and refuses to stay normal -- he inherited it from James and he's stuck like that for life.
8. What does that matter? They're dead. Long gone. So what if they're mentioned again? If JKR wants us to see it for something big, she'll get us the message.
9. No, it wasn't human Transfiguration, not technically. All he did was give him a little porker tail. If you'll remember correctly, Hagrid tried to turn him into a pig, but he was already so much like one that all the magic could do was add a little pink tail. And anyways, ever since he was expelled, he's lived at Hogwarts as gamekeeper. I'm sure he's seen other kids performing spells and learning how to do them himself.

Re #9 --- totally agree. Hagrid may have been expelled, but I'm sure his magical education didn't end there. He lives at Hogwarts. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he's spent a fair amount of time in that hut of his reading secondhand textbooks from the school and continuing his magical education.

Yeah, it was non verbal too...

Or maybe that was just in the movie...*shrugs*
There's a really good thread around here somewhere talking about Harry's regrowing his hair. There were a few instances mentioned when he seemed capable of magic well beyond his age, non verbal and without a wand too, that lead a lot of people to think that his emotions were the basis of a much stronger magic. Maybe there's something in that, maybe there isn't. If I find that thread I'll dig it out because there were a few good points made there from what I remember.

It was absolutely ages ago though...mmm...anywho...
About the London Underground thing - yeah, I notice that. Not so much that scar in particular, but it kind of makes you wonder what other sort of "useful" injuries a person can sustain...*cough*Scar!!*cough*

Good point, Michelle.

I thought a minute ago that maybe the reason Harry's hair grew back so quickly was nothing but defiance. We all know his aunt and uncle treated him awfully, and Aunt Petunia constantly told him how awful his hair was. So when Petunia tried to cut it, it grew back quicker just because Harry hoped it would, just to get on the nerves of his aunt.
I hope you find that thread, too. I'm going to help search for it, because I am very curious!

The pig-tail spell was a non-verbal in the book. I've just reread the relevent passage in PS and it says:
| QUOTE (PS (UK Paperback) @ p48) |
He brought the umbrella swishing down through the air to point at Dudley - there was a flash of violet light, a sound like a firecracker, a sharp squeal...Harry saw a curly pig's tail poking through a hole in his trousers. |
Actually, there are other instances of Hagrid employing non-verbal spells around this time - lighting the fire (possibly - we don't really see what he does) and propelling the boat back to the mainland.
Seems curious when non-verbals are not taught until the sixth year isn't it?

Yeah, it is... *hmm* I'll bet anything Hagrid picked up tips from other students while he was doing his gamekeeping. Well, that proves that Hagrid isn't stupid.

I agree totally. Hagrid lives at a school. There's all sorts of ways for him to pick up on stuff. He's really quite bright and probably knows even more than we could ever suspect. I just hope they let him get a new wand if he hasn't already. Actually, he probably could get one, although I wonder if maybe he isn't attached to the mended wand in the umbrella.

Yeah, Hagrid could have figured it out that way. Heres another strange thing about the first book. How the heck is Quirrel supposed to get a Troll in the school with no one noticing, and that also reminds me, how was Draco able to get in the Vanishing Cabinet?

Just a comment about Hagrid knowing all of the magic... maybe Dumbledore gave him private lessons like he did with Harry... he let Hagrid stay on the grounds, maybe he taught him in secret so that he wouldn't be too far behind in the future..?

The Order of the Phoenix may be a reason for Dumbledore to give several people additional lessons. In Hagrid's case they would certainly keep it secret, since he is not even supposed to have a wand.
Do you think Hagrid repaired his broken wand? Or Dumbledore?

hagrids wand is his umbrella becuase when they snapped it he kept the peices and put it back together in his umbrella, so most likely i assume he did this himself, i do belive he did continue to learn magic after being expelled. i dont think dumbledor flat out gave him lessons on a regular basis but most likely helped him here and there so he would have a few spells to use in emergencys everthing else hagrid knows he most likely did in secret.

1. Well, who says she didn't notice anything about Figgy? There have been loads of hints about there being more to her than meets the eye, although NOT A WITCH.
2. I see this as just one of those Rowling quirks we know and love that never really get explained.
3. See #2.
4. Ooh, that's interesting! It's kinda obvious if it is foreshadowing, but if it is, that holds interesting possibilities for what was going on on the tower...
5. In my opinion, Mr. Tibbles is just a cat. I may be proved wrong, but there have gotta be some animals that are really who they say there are.
6. I think this is an example of uncontrolled youthful magic. I think JK has answered this.
7. Hmmmm... couldn't possibly begin to speculate.
8. Were they in the photo of Moody's?
9. This has already been mentioned and I agree with everyone who says he just picked it up somewhere. Anyway, he messed it up!

I pretty much agree with everyone up there who says he proboably picked it up, working with students like 24/7. Also as some said Dumbledore could have tutored him for the Order, because with only a 3 year education, he wouldn't be very helpful to the Order would he?
I, like HarryPotter Freak said, always thought that Ms. Figg didn't live next to the Dursley's but a few houses down, actually I was always under the impression that she lived on a different street..
I have some oddities or mistakes that MuggleNet pointed out:
-On page 153 of the hard-cover US version of Sorcerer's Stone, Fred says: "We haven't won [the Quidditch Cup] since Charlie left..." However, according to JKR, Charlie is three years older than Percy (who is in his 5th year at the time), so Charlie should still have been in Hogwarts the year before. This makes Fred's statement "We haven't won since last year!"
-In Book 1, on page 27 (American paperback), it mentions that the snake in the zoo winked at Harry. Harry can't be blamed for being so surprised, as snakes don't have movable eyelids.
-When Hagrid comes and gets Harry out of the little hut on the rock, they use the boat that the Dursleys used to get to the rock. So how do the Dursleys get off the rock?
-In Harry's letter from Hogwarts it says he could bring a cat, an owl, or a toad, but Ron brings his rat, Scabbers.
-When Hagrid brought Harry to Diagon Alley for the first time, Harry heard a woman say "Seventeen sickles an ounce for Dragon Liver. They're mad." But Hagrid told Harry that there were seventeen sickles in a galleon. So that would be like saying "100 pennies" instead of a dollar.
-Harry buys the book One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi, but later in the book it says Harry looked up 'dittany' in One Hundred Magical Herbs and Fungi.
-In chapter 7, page 122, it says that Harry looked up at the Sorting Stool, there were only three people left to be sorted, Professor McGonagall calls the names of four more people instead.
-In the US hardback version of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, on page 236 it reads: "Wednesday night found Hermione and Harry sitting alone in the common room... The clock on the wall had just chimed midnight when the portrait hole burst open. Ron appeared..." But on page 133 it says: "They had to study the night skies through their telescopes every Wednesday at midnight..." So are they cutting class to discuss Norbert?
-On pages 274-275 of the hardback American edition of Sorcerer's Stone, the trio, coming from Gryffindor Tower, go up two flights of stairs to get to the third floor. Gryffindor tower is on the 7th floor, so they should have had to go down, not up.

How does DD get to Harry at the end of PS if there was only one gulp of potion left to go through the black flames?
my guess is either the magical defenses ceased to function after the stone was taken or DD just said some powerful spell and was able to walk through the flames. Or maybe the poton refills itself once the person goes onwards. One things for sure, he couldn't have disapparated there because you can't w/n Hogwarts grounds.
In CoS: What if Voldy had come back through the diary? Would the weakened one cease to exist, would there be two voldys or would the weakened voldy have inhabited the diary voldy thereby bestowing all his memories and magical abilities on the diary one?
also i thought it was impossible for girls to go in the boys dormitories and vice versa, but Hermione does it when she wakes Harry and Ron up because the polyjuice potion is ready. But maybe i'm just remembering the other books wrong cuz i swear Ron was thrown out of the girls dormitories in one of the books.

In book 5 after Ron's failed attempt to go into the girl's dorm, Hermione mentions that girls are allowed into the boys, and not the other way around, because they are considered more "trustworthy" than boys.

Keep in mind that Mrs. Figg is a squib, not a witch, so she may not have displayed many 'out of the ordinary' qualities. Maybe Mrs. Figg tried to her best to conceal that she was a squib and tried to act like a muggle as best as she could. Or perhaps Petunia just didn't pay much attention to her, perhaps she live a few houses down the road or something.
2. Dumbledores nose is stated to have looked like it was broken twice, how?

We find out in DH that this was actually a result of a fight between him and his brother Aberforth. (sp?)
3. Dumbledores scar of the London Underground, how?
I thought that that part was quite funny.
I guess that is just something JKR put in the book to be comical, and is of no real significance to the plot.
9. Hagrid does Human Transfiguration on Dudley. How did he know how? Thats sixth year education, he stopped in his third.
True that does seem a little advanced for Hagrid considering he left school so early. I agree with what is being said here that it is possible that he picked it up, he practiced magic in his free time of the Dumbledore gave him private lessons. But it's non-verbal and non-verbal spells are only tought in sixth year though.
Maybe Hagrid has some secret talent that we don't know about... hehe

I'm sure that was just an error in typing. You can't expect JKR to be 100% perfect all the time, can you?

Again, probably just an error.

We all know that Hogwarts has a lot of secret passages so why couldn't they have been taking a shortcut to the third floor?

Harry's hair incident, in which his hair grows back after Mrs. Dursley cut it all off. Does this mean he is a metamorphagus already?
It mentions in the book that this is Harry showing signs of magic as a kid. Its like with the snake at the zoo - it's just him doing magic without knowing it - he's not a metamorphagus though.
