Tim Burton is the guy who directed "The Nitemare before Christmas," right? That was probably my favorite movie growing up as a kid. I still love it.

He is pretty awesome - I loved the first two Batman films..they had an angsty darkness (that made Michael Keaton shine in the role) that was sadly lacking from the other two. And Beetlejuice was just an all time classic.
I do feel he hit a bit of a bump with Mars Attacks though...that movie was sooooo bad I almost got up and walked out of the cinema (and that's a big thing for me to say, 'cos I'm really skingy when it comes to the old purse strings!!

)
But Jack Nicholson was in that movie too, and he's just about the best actor ever, so I guess everyone makes bad calls from time to time....

Tim Burton is totally my favourite director, closely followed by the Coen Brothers..the only Tim Burton film I didn't much care for was his remake of Planet of the Apes...It just didn't seem to have that....touch...that beautiful kookiness and creepiness *hums Addams family quietly* that makes his films so amazing...
He's just...excellent...
Oh, btw, Tim Burton didn't actualy direct Nightmare before Christmas...That one SO caught me out on the trivia quiz on the Big Fish dvd...*grumbles* darn tricksters calling it Tim Burton's Nightmare before Christmas....*wanders off muttering*

Nightmare Before Christmas is defiantly my favorite out of his movies. I watch it almost everynight! (I know I'm a loser LOL!!) Beetlejuice is my second favorite.
And has anyone heard of American McGee's Alice? Well I think if a movie comes out on that Tim Burton should most defiantly direct it!!! That would be a god sent!

Tim Burton is such a great director, definately one of the best of our generation, if not of all time. He has such a great eye for visuals and his movies have such a distinct feeling, though not a stereotype. Oh, and when Dannie Elfman scores his movies, its magic

... and don't forget
Beetlejuice. It offers a completely new view on ghosts and the meaning of the word "haunted house". I don't know how he does it, but he manages to make films that are unique, zany, great art, dark and humourous at the same time.

Tim Burton is 48 years old. REally isn't that old compared to like...an 80 year old, right? I love Tim Burton. Just. Love. His movies are probably the greatest that have ever been made, and I do pretty much idolize him for his work. Edward Scissorhands is my favorite movie of all time. Ever. When I get older, I want to go to school to direct and write movies. My goal is to write a movie alongside Tim Burton. Keep your fingers crossed, and....go ahead, if you must, you can call me crazy now.

Tim Burton is such a brilliant director! His films are just brilliant, and what a partnership he has with Danny Elfman! Tim's film with Danny's music is great, but what also makes it perfect is either Helena Bonham Carter - who is my favourite actor - (or Jonny Depp) starring in the film - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Edward Scissorhands, Corpse Bride ...
I must say, my favourite TB films are Corpse Bride, Nightmare Before Christmas and Edward Scissorhands.
Danny did the music for all 3 of them I think, Helena was Emily in the Corpse Bride, Jonny was Edward in Edward Scissorhands, and Danny even provided Jack's singing voice in the Nightmare Before Christmas! You've got the admire the 4 of them, they have amazing partnerships!

I haven't seen a lot of his movies, but Edward Scissorhands and The Corpse Bride were simply great! I just loved The Corpse Bride, it had a weird (in a good way) story and it had a very nice ending!
I guess I'm into the supernatural, but it was really nice what they did with it!
I believe he's a great director, and I'm really looking forward to watching A Nightmare Before Christmas, as soon as I get a hold of it, and Sweeney Todd, as soon as one of my friends nice enough will come with me to the movies...

Ah, Kaitlyn, you just MUST see Sweeney Todd! It's my favourite film at the minute, and I've already watched it 3 times through!! It's so Tim Burtonish, and again, there's the weird, mysterious air to it. It's definately my favourite TB film to date. It's completely brilliant. It would have been better if Danny Elfman had composed the background music, but since the majority of it was ready-made, there wasn't really much to be done!

Starting my post saying how much I love Tim Burton’s poetics wouldn’t be too original, I guess, judging from all your previous posts. Nevertheless, I have to say it, because I think the way he is able to materialize his imagination on the screen is amazing.
I’ve been a huge fan of his movies ever since I saw
Beetlejuice some fifteen years ago (

goodness, time flies). I’d been always fond of the paranormal, but his portrayal of ghosts was so original and fresh. Like someone says before me,
Beetlejuice provides a whole new perspective on the concept of a haunted house. I think we may encounter a resembling idea in
The Others by Alejandro Amenábar, which tackles the theme very well too, but which in my opinion lacks Mr. Burton’s poetics (though it has a poetics of its own, and generally I like this movie very much too... but I'm digressing now).
As for
Sweeney Todd, I cannot agree with you more, Amy. Indeed, Kaitlyn, you have to go watch the movie, with our without your friend. It’s my present favorite too. I think it’s Tim Burton all over again and even better. All the gloom, black and blue shades and the artificiality of the scene. I mean the artificiality in a good way, because Mr. Burton really takes pride in shooting in a studio – the whole of
Sleepy Hollow and I guess majority of the
Batmans was shot like this. I like the game he is playing with the audience in this way. You can always tell that the setting is artificial and the smoke from the chimneys merely drawn on canvas (not in
Sweeney Todd but in the
Batmans for instance). It is as if the director was winking at his audience that despite the spooky themes of the movies, the ghosts and creatures are not real and thus we don’t have to be afraid of them. Such interaction with the viewers is what I love about his movies the most, I guess.
My ever favorite scene from
Sweeney Todd must be “By the Sea.” The colors and Johnny’s and Helen’s costumes and the way Johnny is brooding while Helen is happy as a school girl, are all simply brilliant. And again, the artificiality is more than great.
Also, the fact that he makes the actors sing only by themselves, and not in a chorus like in classic musicals, enhances the genre of movie musical a little bit further. And allows the tortured souls of his characters to excel.
Has anyone of you guys seen his
Vincent? It’s a short cartoon from 1982 and I believe it portrays young Tim, haunted by his imagination. I believe that if we ever want to analyze his movies and the way he narrates them, we have to start with
Vincent. I think it provides a lot of answers.
Oh, and just the day before yesterday I saw
Ed Wood. Completely different genre, but all the more worthwhile watching.
Oops, what a long post. Anyway, I love Mr. Burton’s movies. That’s what I basically wanted to say.

I loved Big Fish. That's my favourite Tim Burton movie.

Yes well his films are mainly the same because he follows the same genre for every one, even for his stop motions, because every director has their style, and his is
Black Comedy.
And has anyone noticed that for his stop-motions he tends to give them really long legs and little feet? They do on James and the Giant Peach, Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride - I think they look great! I love looking out for them

I loved almost all of his movies, especiallly Big Fish. I just thought the whole thing was so perfect, it all made sense with me without making any sort of sense at all, if that's possible!
The only one I couldn't stand was The Nightmare Before Christmas, which I didn't manage to finish. I did notice the feet thing though; his animations are so neat! Corspe Bride was awesome just for the animations, although I loved everything else about it though...
I really, really want to see Sweeny Todd, but I'm not old enough!

It's not that gruesome, is it? it sounds perfect..directed by Tim Burton, with Johney Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Alan Rickman and theiy're all singing! Plus somebody finds a toe in their pie! (Or so I am told) Could it
be any better?

Well I'm 15, but I have my ways of seeing these things

Nope, it isn't really gruesome at all. The blood is quite naff, but that's the only downside, because the rest is just so brilliant! Johnny Depp has a really good voice, but I suppose that's what you get when you used to sing in a band

Helena doesn't have as strong a voice as I thought she would, but she's still great in it, and Alan Rickman is great ... no, it couldn't get any better! I hope you find a way of seeing it *cough* Youtube *cough*

It is an amazing movie!! My all time favorite i think!! Tim Burton together with Johnny Depp(again) with Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman, and Timothy Spall. Sacha Baron Cohen is also in it. (Borat) There are only 3 scenes in the movie with large amounts of blood. The blood is very fake looking. But it is dark and a bit depressing. I still love it! It is just... awesome!!

By the way, im a big fan of Tim Burton's movies! I think he is a genious, even thogh his movies are all quite dark.

You've all said it but I thought I'd toss in my identical 2 snickles and say that Tim Burton is brilliant. I would actually have liked to see him do one of the Harry Potter movies but it would be sort of restraining for him if he only did one and it wasn't the first one. Still- I love all of his other movies, Nightmare Before Christmas and BeetleJuice are my personal favorites. I happen to be a huge fan of Jonny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter and it's cool how there in alot of his movies.
As for Sweeny Todd...I nearly puked
.
The acting was wonderful (well, duh), the story was interesting, and it was all around good. I know the blood was fake looking and that none of it was reall but I am really (and when I say it I mean it) really touchy about throught slittings (I cring at the line "I've almost forgotten how to slit a throught" in Peter Pan) . I know I know- I shouldn't have watched the movie in the first place because that's, like, the biggest plot device in the movie but it was 3 against 1; (Sweeny Todd or Juno...). I hid under a blanket through most of it
I didn't hate it or anything but the blood was too much for me. BUT don't be scared to see it or anything because my three friends were like "Ohhh thats sooo cool" when he killled one guy (Alan Rickman) and bood spattered everywhere, I'm just really squemish about that sort of thing....
IN CONCLUSION- I recomend it but, if your like me, watch it with a fuzzy blanket handy...
(wow, quite the rant...)

Okay, i have an utter obsession with Tim Burton. I've watched every single film that he has ever even been near. (: I cannot tell you my favorite film, though. It is a tie between Sleepy Hollow, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Beetlejuice. I can only say that there are only a couple of things that I didn't like by him; those were Frankenweenie and Ed Wood. I can say that I am not a real big fan of Ed wood, so it's no real suprise why I don't like his biography, even if Johnny Depp did play his role. His looks can only get the movie so many stars. Anyway, i am eagerly awaiting the arrival of 9 and Alice in Wonderland!! They look awesome!!!
September 9th, 2009 for the movie 9
March 5th, 2010 for Alice in Wonderland

Any movie with Johnny Depp will sell tickets. He's not as bankable as Will Smith (who can fill a theatre for weeks after the release) but he's big enough (and hot enough

) to draw a good crowd.
I'm also eagerly awaiting Alive in Wonderland. As you could probably tell form my sig and avie.

I used to watch the Disney Alive every weekend for months. And the movie version when I could rent it. They can only get better and with Tim Burton's genius I expect it to be the best Alive ever!
