anyway, hermione and ginny are both such good characters but if someone asks you to choose one, who would it be? would it be hermione granger or ginny weasley?

i'd choose hermione becuase i'm a lot like her in many ways and also that she's one of my favourite characters. i like ginny too but i didn't want her to be harry's girlfriend.

OMG, I really don't know Hermione was my fave character for so long... now she's not( I realized we're not so similar as I thought, now my fave is Harry). And vice virsa, Ginny annoyed me in the 1,2,3 and 4 book, but I adore her now...Hermione's freak I didn't vote cause I hesitate

well, i had to vote hermione because we are so much alike! also im still not a huge ginny fan, i think she has become sort of stuck up and to popular for her own good, you know? im not saying i hate her or anything, i just wouldnt choose her over hermione. also, if you couldnt tell already, im a big harry/hermione shipper, so ginny can go eat dirt lol just kidding...nah but it would have to be hermione for me.

I like Ginny, but I really like Hermione so much more. I think she's developed more as a character over the course of the books! Plus, Hermione and I are just alike.

It's definatley got to be Ginny. She's so much funnier and exciting than Hermione. Now don't get me wrong, they're both awsome characters but Ginny's personality and mannerisms far outstrip Miss. Granger's.

I chose Hermione. I've gotten time to read about her and love her for the logical but slightly irritating know-it-all she is.

With Ginny, we get to read what... 1 book with her in HBP, and two endings of books (CoS and OoTP). Whoop-de-do.

I really like both, but for me, it ultimately has to be Hermione. She's my favorite character --- she's devestatingly intelligent, has good wit and heart, is a great friend to Harry and loves cats (whereas Ginny ditched Crookshanks for that pygmy puff.) And S.P.E.W. was a great idea --- it just needed better execution. But her heart was definitely in the right place. Oh, and I'm a lot like Hermione too!

Hey everyone
I chose Ginny because I think that she becomes a more developed character. She really shines in HBP and becomes more popular and likeable. Hermione is just plain old, book-loving Hermione. I also think that Ginny is much more funny and exciting than Hermione.

Hehehe... I see loads of Hermione lovers here... But i'll have to go with Ginny... She's great right from PS/SS up to HBP... I just love her... She's feisty and spunky... just the way it should be... I think she changed a bit from the first 4 books but she developed real well... And I just loved it when she and Harry got together in the sixth... Anyway, any other Ginny fan here?

Ginny is....well, I've said quite enough about my feelings on her in the 'Ginny characterisation' thread. Suffice it to say if she meets a grizzly end in book seven, I'll be one extremely happy little bunny.

How can anyone even *think* about comparing them?! They're not even in the same league.

Anyway, to answer the question, I'm definitely more like Hermione. If I ever start to get like Ginny, fellow mods, you have my permission to put me out of my misery immediately

Hermione. I am not a fan of Ginny. She's so annoying!! What a little weenie in the first 3 books and she was only good in the 4th movie ("actually he screamed at her, it was a bit frightening" actually one good line.) and in the 5th and 6th books is just so obnoxious so Hermione. definitely. Michelle Dessler, I will be a happy bunny too.

Like Michelle Dessler said in her post, Ginny is out of Hermione's league! There just isn't any comparison. I adore Hermione. She is, as Sirius said in POA, "the cleverest (or was it smartest?) witch of her age." She's a powerful witch and has a kind heart. Beauxbaton1000, I laughed aloud when you called Ginny a "weenie"! She's annoying in OotP and quite obnoxious in HBP! Can you tell I am not a fan of Ginny's? She's a 'Hermione wanna-be' as far as I am concerned. Fat chance!

Hermione is great, the books wouldn't be the same without her. I couldn't agree more, but Ginny is a really important character, as well.

Someone said, and I might repeat it, that Ginny HAS evolved! from a shy little girl to a likeable teenager, smart and powerful witch.
Whereas Hermy is the same know-it-all that she was the first book, although she has become a bit more "rebellious" with the time.

Besides, I think Ginny's character is not as simple as many people think. I still believe there's something really important about her. And JKR likes her a lot! she is one of her fave characters!

You can't say Ginny is not in the same league as Hermione, because they are extremely different characters! Hermione is the logic, Ginny is the fun. That's it!

i've always thought hermione was the better one of the two.. she's smart, gutsy and maybe well, a little more crazy than ginny.. ginny, as it seems in the books, seems very helpless and weak.. hermione is very very much like harry in a lot of ways.. always trying to find answers for things and trying to find out about them in ways that people can't possibly thought well.. possible.. =]

You guys, you know you can say what you like about characters, don't you? You can bash them all you like, so there's no need to hold back in giving your opinions. So long as you don't extend that bashing to the real people who like those characters, then that's fine.

For example, I can say that Ginny is pathetic, a Ginny-Sue in fact, and is so unbelievably preppy that I wouldn't spit on her if she was on fire whereas Hermione is intelligent, recognised as such by many other characters, is warm and compassionate - and has been demonstrated to be so on many occasions and is far more interesting as a person that anyone with glossy hair and a quick wand.

So long as I don't insult the *people* who like Ginny by calling them any names, then that's fine.

So guys...you want to bash Ginny or Hermione, feel free. You want to extoll their virtues again, feel free.

On a personal note, can I just say how happy I am to see Hermione winning this poll

I chose Hermione because she is smart, cautious, somewhat annoying, and a great friend. Ginny, on the other hand, is very annoying, snogs people for no reason, mean, and she was possessed by Voldy himself. I just really can't stand Ginny's character. She's okay, but I'd pick Hermione over her anyday!

Hermione Jane Granger rocks! I pick Hermione because she's most likely to succeed and she is braver than most. There are a buch of other reasons, but I don't want to be up all night.

I had to go with Hermione. Ginny is a prep, thinks she is perfect, and is really there for no reason other than to snog Harry (or whoever she is currently going out with). Hermione, however, has been there and has been importnat since the first book.

I'd vote Hermione with no hesitation. There's just something about Ginny that makes me not like her. She's annoying to me, and it's like she's always relaxed and doesn't care much.
Whoever thinks Harry and Ginny are horrible together, thank you! Ginny doesn't seem to be the kind of person who cares for personalities. I agree that Harry's better of without a girlfriend.

I voted Hermione. I really like Ginny, and I want her to be with Harry above anyone else but, well, Hermione's Hermione, it just feels like I've been through so much more with her over the 6 books than Ginny.

I voted Hermione. She is one of my favourite character whilst Ginny is not really one of my fave's. I dont really like her. This might be because I have never really like Ginny whilst I haved always liked Hermione in the books.

Hermione definately! She is amazing and i probably wouldnt like the harry potter series as much as i do without her! Ginny just annoys me, she's like a child honestly, if theres something she cant have she throws a tantrum! She wants to be fourth member of the trio and i really hope she doesnt go with them in the next book.

It was hard to vote, but eventually I decided to vote for Hermione. I wasn't to keen on Ginny from books 1-4, and in 5 and 6 she's been more braver and older (obviously), which I liked. However Hermione has always been there for both Ron and Harry.

For instance would have Ron and Harry firgured out what the monster was and how it traveled around and petrified its victims in Harry Potter and the Chamer of secretsif they didn't find the note in Hermione's hand? And of course she always helps them with homework

Hermione all the way. I am so much like her. She is smart and I love her personality. She's a great friend and very brave. Her logical ability is amazing.
I'm not too keen on Ginny. I don't dislike her, but I don't particularly like her, either.

its not hard 4 me, Im a hermione fan all the way, we are alike in many ways, and shes a very powerful minded character, abd has alot of girl power, I still like ginny but, she's geting a little stuck up.

I don't know if you're making us choose who we like more or who we like for Harry. I picked Hermione anyway, because she's smart and logical, and I always thought that she was an endearing character ever since book 1. Ginny, on the other hand, is just... boring as a character. *shrugs* This isn't a very fair poll though, because Hermione is a main character and Ginny's a supporting role. Who knows? Maybe if JKR developed Ginny's character, she could be just as likeable.

I do not ship Harry and Hermione, though. They're really more like best friends or brother and sister. No chemistry at all. Harry's okay with Ginny. I don't mind... much.

I agree Ginny is just feisty and spunky, and quite sporty and adventurous like me. But she's kind of immature.

Hermione---Genius. She knows what to do in a serious situation and she's really hardworking, but she's too serious. I think Hermione's really like me too, cuz we both have really good academic results.

Well I am sure that a lot of folks will disagree with me but Hermoine has just about gotten on my last nerve . I know I know, she's a genius and all that and yes she has always been a great help and I do like her and hope she makes it through but she is just exceptionally annoying to me at this point. Now let me clarify that a bit....it's not the movie version of Hermoine who I like a lot better, it's the book version that is getting on my last nerve. The constant rule totting, snapping, SPEW etc is just annoying afte 6 books especially when half of it is hypocritical. She goes on about rules and what not but is fine with breaking them when the mood suits her or when it is needed.

Ginny on the other hand has always had a smaller role until the last 2 books and I think her character is coming along nicely. I think that in the last book she will be an important character and will prove to be one powerful witch that plays a crucial role in the outcome. She has that fire and fight in her and there have been hints that she is a pretty powerful witch but only vaque hints. I think this will become full blown in the last book.

Ginny is my girl! She is my favourite character and if I could be any character in Harry Potter it would be Ginny. She's smart, brave and funny and open minded. What more could you want.

Hermione's great, but Ginny has always been one of my favourite charecters. Everyone says that Ginny's immature and all that - but she's really not. When has she ever thrown a tantrum? She's fiery and I reckon that she will play a key part in the final book. Hermione has been there from the beginning and Harry would be dead without her, but I can see her being more of a bit-part charecter in the final story - she definately seemed to do less in Half Blood Prince.
