I looked to see if this topic had already been made and it hadn't. Isn't Dumbledore's full name Albus Percival Wulvric Brian Dumbledore? And isn't Percy's full name Perival Weasely? Anyone realize this?
Also, I found another thing. Look at this:
Ginerva (Ginny) Weasley
Ronald (Ron) Weasley
Frederick (Fred) Weasley
George Weasely
Percival (Percy) Weasley
Charles (Charlie) Weasley
William (Bill) Weasley
The only one who is not called by a nick-name is George. Isn't that strange? It probobly doesn't mean anything, but still...

It'd be a bit hard to come up with a nickname for George. . .I can't think of one. I'm sure there's got to be one out there somewhere. . .
Percy's full name is Percival Ignatius Weasley. I always thought Ron's was the best as far as Ronald Billius Weasley. Ginny's is Ginerva Molly Weasley. I don't know about the others, though. I wonder why they only give middle names for three Weasleys?

Hmmm..that is interesting, but i agree, i dont think i can come up with a nick for george. unless its like Georgillious or something weird like that!

nah just kidding i really dont know, but i think the thing you pointed out with percy's name and dumbledores name defenatly has some kind of significance: maybe a clue to percy's death as well???

We've been talking about naming significance
here also.
Regarding the idea of a nickname for George --- my name is George, and other than "Curious" George, there's really nothing. I've never really had a nickname, at least nothing that really stuck. Of course,
Agent0042 is my online name, but that's different...

wow!
i jolly well did not know that they had full names! i only know ron's full name. it's amazing that you knew the full names. well anyway, i'm surprised with percy's full name. i'm not quite sure that he must be with some relation with dumbledore. i think book 7 will reveal loads of secrets.
i noticed too, that it's very hard to bring up a nickname for george. i read 'famous five' and a girl called georgina called herself george. if your name is a bit like george, then you can make up a nick name but...
if the real name is george, it can be kinda difficult to build up a pet name.

You're telling me! The best I can think of that's some sort of twist on the name itself is "Geo" and that doesn't really work too well.

I suppose you could go with Go, pronounced Jo, but it just seems girly. And there's always the name from a nursery rhyme Georgie, but can you imagine what he'd do to someone if they tried calling him that? I personally like Gred and Forge. I think they should stick with those.

As I was reading the posts, that is what I intended to say, that Gred and Forge would be perfect. I guess you just beat me too it. The reason I like that is form Star Trek, I think. The black guy who wears the eye visor to see before he gets fixed in the later movies. His name was Jordy LaForge (Something liek that). It is the first thing I thought od when I read it in the books.

Another thing about Percy's name is that his uncle presumably, from his mothers side married a black. So that makes him related to Sirius and he got his middle name from that same uncle Ignatius. I remember playing the game and their is a famous witch or wizard card that has the name Ignatius Withersby or something funny like that.

I always thought Joe was a nick off of George, but I could very well be wrong... I don't think there's a root of George either, he may just be the only one lacking a nickname poor thing, but I was thinking Fred, was just Fred, but again I could be terribly wrong on that one too.
What's struck me when first reading through the books was how awfully plain some of their names are, Bill, Charlie, Fred, George, Ron...all we're missing is Jim-Bob.

No offense of course to those you you who are named such traditional names, it just hit me how odd that the male names didn't stick out much. Easier for us to remember? Quite possibly.

I did funnily enough, though I was more caught by Brian who is a friend of mine's name.

But anyways, significance? I really couldn't say with all the turns Percy has been taking lately, but Percival is connected to Arthurian ledgeds also. He was a knight of the Round Table wasn't he? Just some food for thought.
As a sidenote: Phoebe lovegood, could you please elaborate a bit more in future posts, one-liners(smilies/quotes do not count) are not allowed. Thanks.

Wasn't there an interview with Rowling where she talked about the origins of Fred and George's names? Maybe I just dreamed that, haha but if I remember correctly she said that the wanted names that sounded old or something like that, but maybe I made that up
I'll look for the link for the interview and post the link if I find it.
[EDIT]: Ok, I found it. It wasn't an interview; it's from the
FAQ section of her site.

How did Fred and George get their names, is it from the twins in "Gone With the Wind", they were both red headed boys?
Until I received this letter, I had no idea that the actors who played Stuart and Brent Tarleton were called Fred Crane and George Reeves. No, this isn't where I got the names (I simply called Fred and George 'Fred and George' because I like those names and they fitted well with the old fashioned names of the other Weasley brothers), but it is a funny coincidence!... |

How intresting! Well, it is possible that there is significance to this about the DD and Percy thing. I mean perhaps Percy was DD's spy inside the ministry! Maybe they have a past! Perhaps!..Molly and Arthur named him that ON purpose! because DD did something so extraoridinary like DD is always doing and then the just HAD to name their child after him! Or perhaps Percy's betrayl which caused Molly so much grief was a foreshadowing for DD's death!!?
Hmmm curious very curious!
Haha now I am just getting silly

cool idea though!
Oh yes and for George's nick name I know of a girl named Georgia and we call her Gee or Gee Gee or maybe we could call George and Fred FEEGEE aahahahaha oh wow that was so lame haha

My cousin is named George...but he has always been called Georgie...

Just what I've always wanted.....A thread mainly on George! How cool. And George did have a nickname, it was Georgie. Remember in the seventh book when he got his ear cut off by snape (sobsob), Mrs. Weasley asked "How are you feeling, Georgie?". I think thats what she called him when she was being mom-like with him but he didn't want her calling him that in public. Who would?
