Oooh... I love candles! Last year, I kept playing with all these candles, and playing with the fire and the wax and all that. My mum grounded me for a week because she thought I was going to burn the house down...
The scents are so alluring, and they ARE warm. They are convinient for power outages and you can burn people with them

... Nah, just kidding, I don't hurt people...

Ahhhh, the smell of scented candles--ya can't beat it, I tell ya.

I love candles too! Fire is one of those beautiful, dangerous things that fascinate me. It's a bit scary, thought, because my teacher is obsessed with fire; he plays with it all the time in class. He's like, "Fire is my friend." We go through candles at my school faster than you can say Dobby's hotpants.

I play with the wax on the candles, too!!! At my church, I'm an altar server, and I peel the wax off of the candle holder constantly! It drives my buds nuts but it's so addictive! I hate it when it gets under my fingernails, though.

Yuk.

I play with candles all of the time. Then my friend Susie burned herself during a blackout, and I stopped. Because her burn was yucky. And I hate burns.
Candles are beautiful things. Warm, fuzzy, cozy, fun, bubbly, sputtery, and they all have personalities. Some are sparky, some are quiet, some are bright, some are dimmer. I love you, candles!!
Great topic,

Hm, an unusual topic. I wonder if it'll generate much inerest. You guys are right about candles being a fabulous way to light a room. I've never been much into scented candles though because they get a bit overpowering.
When I shared a one bedroom flat with 3 other girls, we used to go through candles like no tomorrow!! We used to try and bring back really interesting candles to burn, and we had several old bottles that were thoroughly coated in multicoloured wax.
There's nothing like having a warm bath surrounded by only candle light, (alone or shared

) a good bottle of champagne, and your favourite mellow music on in the background (for me that would be Nick Cave). Its a soulful experience ... except when the water looses all its heat because you're a bit sozzled from the champagne and you've let the time run away with you. Ahhh ... luxuriating for too long!

And yea, wax is fun too

I love candles

They're cosy and warm and lovely. And they're also very useful if the power goes and you can't find a flashlight

One of the best things about Christmas too they are, we always use a lot of them during Christmas...

Maybe its a girl thing, though I haven't met a guy who would turn it down either.

Chris, I suggest you try it sometime, I'm telling you ... your sister is on to something!
Someone gave me some lingerie that came with a box of little chocolate scented candles and I was amazed at how chocolatie they smell, but they get a little ... overpowering, if you know what I mean.
Candles are wonderful! They give off such a soft and moody light, and you can find yourself transfixed if you stare at the flame. You sort of go all dwammy. (is that a word?)

I use a lot of candles. Everything from big, thick ones that can burn continuously for ten days (if you let them) to small party lights.
There is a story behind these candles.
When the energy companies started to become thieves and the cost of having gas and electricity delivered to my door became disproportionate to my actual consumption of these commodities, I took the drastic step of having myself cut off. Since then, my house has been lit with candles, oil lamps and gas lamps.
My normal light comes from oil lamps and candelabras with candles, and I use gaslight for special tasks that require white light -- not often because the small gas containers of these lamps are relatively expensive and the lamps are noisy.
This arrangement has been very satisfactory. I don't need more light than this, but I'm working on getting solar power and a 12 volt system with a car battery that I can recharge using the pedal power of a hometrainer bicycle, that will power my computer and chains of LED lights in the hallway and the bathroom. These lights will have a "dim" setting and a "bright" setting and can be turned off and on with a switch. I calculated that I can leave the hall light burning for three days before running out of power.
When I get the home-power-system up and running, I will have a house that uses both old-fashioned and modern methods to provide my power needs.
I haven't regretted my decision to get cut off. It saved me a lot of money. I had always been a small energy user, never using airconditioning or devices on electrical stand-by. My biggest power drain was the freezer.
Do the power companies really believe we have no alternatives? Of course we do. Were our ancestors uncivilised because they had no televisions, no freezers, no dishwashers? Of course not. I take my washing to the laundrette these days, and in the summer I share room in a friend's freezer. A few things now require a bit more planning, like heating up water before I can have a hot shower, and making sure that my computer battery stays charged. Some luxuries I now have to seek outside my own house, but that makes me appreciate them all the more. Plus, it makes me feel good to think that my hard-earned money doesn't go to people who think they can determine what I need and then ask any price for it.
I sit by the candlelight and smile. Some people think that I'm crazy and they pity me because they can think of nothing worse than to have their electricity cut off. But the only ones that are truly pityable are the ones that work their socks off to pay for luxuries that they don't need.
You, the reader of my story, may be so young that you've never seen an electricity bill or a gas bill, let alone pay for them. Perhaps you don't see what the fuss is all about. You may flick switches, use a television, hi-fi audio system, computer, toaster, cooker and grill without ever seeing how much energy these devices actually consume and how this energy is being paid for, and who controls it. Quite a lot of the things that we associate with wealth depend on electricity, but don't forget for a moment that you still have the choice to do without, regardless of what anyone says.

Oh, i simply adore candles! I don`t know from where my maddness with candles appeared but every time i go with my mother at shopping i put in the basket all sort of candles that my eyes see.
And about candles, that reminds me that i almost set my desk on fire! I was playing with the fire (well, i was a little smaller) and with the wax and i said to myself : "What about you try to make a fire much bigger to bring more light?" So , i putted papers and t he fire kept being bigger and bigger, some papers and notebooks on my desk burned, and well, naturally my parents came in and of course i was grounded for a week or so.

Have any of you been to a candle party? It's quite an interesting experience... My step-sister had one and invited all of her friends and me. Basically what happens is an associate from this candle part company comes with all these samples from their company. And she explains what they are, tests them, and you get an order form and you can order as many as you want. I only got one candle that came with two stands that you can either put together or have to stands. It was a fun party though.
I love floating candles for some reason... I don't know I guess I'm just fascinated by it.
Going into candle stores and smelling all the different scents is beyond fun! I could spend hours doing that. Actually, my brother and I do it whenever where in the mall because they always come out with different scents.

I have been known to be somewhat of a pyro, so I have played with candles. Mostly with the wax, diping my finger into it and what not. I hate scented candles! My sister lights them all the time, the worst one is some type of flower I have no idea what it is, but it's not good.

Oh, I love candles!
I love scented ones especially. I love to dim or turn down the lights, light some candles and incense and curl up with a good book.
Candles have this calming effect on me that I enjoy. I think they are pretty as well and the scented ones smell so good.

Candles sooth the mind. Especially scented ones. If I've had a tough day at school then nothing calms me better than a hot bath surrounded by candles.
I love going into the candle shops because as you walk in an overpowering smell hits you like a bullet. There's so many different scents all rushing at you at once. It's great!

Candles are so pretty. I love them.

Okay but anyway, I like candles. I don't know what it is but I just like watching them burn its really strange... I was at my grandmas house once and she always has a lot of candles and she said that I am the only person she knows that can sit stone still and watch a candle burn for over 45 minutes... I didn't even realize that I had been watching that long...

I don't particularly like candles in that aspect, but I like the scent. They are useful if you have an outage during a storm, too.

Most of my family and friends actually love candles! Their houses are filled with them and it seems like everytime I visit someone they have at least five candles lit in each room. Although I only have a few candles, I've often thought of getting more just for the heck of it. Sometimes I'll burn incense instead since I love the different scents of that as well.

Candles are awesome. I have a whole bunch around my house, and I used to have a big pink one that smelled like strawberry shortcake somewhere around...I gotta find my big pink candle! I also have ones that smell like apple pie, cinnamon rolls, some sort of tree, and I wished they made one that smelled like bacon.

Candles are cool my mom has so many around the hous eyou wouldn't believe me if it told you. But they are pretty candles. Some candles we are not even allowed to turn on because my mom wants them to always look pretty. But the ones in my room i do turn on.

Wow I thought I was the only one who dipped their fingers in wax. I love doing that because it then feels nice and smooth and warm. When its harden i put it back into the candle and watch it melt. My friends ask me isnt it hot when you put your fingers in there and i say no becasue it really isnt that hot.

This is a random topic! But hey, I'm random, so I'll post

I love all candles, but I really love the smell of jasmine. It's so fresh and relaxing, my mam lights them nearly every night! I also have these black candles in my room in the shape of roses, but I can't bring myself to light them cos they just look so pretty!!
And incense sticks -- ahhh I just love them. The smell is lush and can disguise any bad odours ... okay now I sound like I'm from a air freshener advert

I've nevr actually tried dipping my finger in wax ... sounds fun though! I'll have to try it sometime

Some nights, when I don't have anything to do that requires a lot of light, I will set them up all 'round my apartment and leave all of the electric lights off. I like the fruit-scented ones especially.

Candles. Wow. I absolutely love love love them.
All the shapes, sizes, colors, scents... everything. I love the light and warmth they give off. It goes great with a dark night.
I remember this one night back in December. My friends and I were being abnormally stupid and it was storming outside. We decided in the middle of the night that we wanted to go on the screen porch and bring laterns with tea lights and bring out candles and have fun lighting them and stuff becuase they kept blowing out in the wind. It's so much fun to play with the flame. It can burn you, but you have got to be careful. When you play with the wax and it hardens, it feels good on your skin.
That night was so much fun. we even took pictures!

I love candles! Every month, they come up with new and exciting scents. Like just recently, I found a candle that smells like vanilla cake, mmmm delicious! I like using candles in the bathroom too. The most relaxing bath you will ever take, is a candlelit bath. Surround yourself with candles, put on some music and just sit back. [sigh] I would definitely recommend you all try it.

I love candles. They are also a big part of the culture in one of my countries and also in my religion.
I find candles very relaxing - currently I am buring a red pillar candle and a translucent orchid scented candle. Oh and a little strawberry scented tealight^^
Candles are really lovely, especially in the colder months, they really help to give a homely, cosy feel to a room.

Just a note to add, does anyone like incense and has anyone heard of infuse reeds? I got some reeds for Christmas last year and they did last quite a while but on the whole they seem kind of pointless.

I love candles too. They are very relaxing and help in un-winding from a hectic day. Candles by the bathtub are great. They are romantic and great for decor but they can also be simple and relaxing. I love the holiday scents the best. I like feeling like fall and Christmas are year around. The one scent I can't stand is vanilla. That scent makes my stomach turn.
