J.K. Rowling said that she is going to write 7 books, so its obvious that harry will die ! so there wont be an eighth part.. but if he survives or even if one or two of the trio are alive (i hope no one dies except voldemort ) then the fans may force jo rowling to write more!!
i hope she does write.. i'll be the happiest person on earth!!

I don't know why people think that's some sort of "proof" he's going to die. Just because the books are ending doesn't mean he's going to die, she'll just write an ending and be done with it, simple as that. It's what most authors do.
Either way though, she said herself that she has a chapter in the book that's going to tell you what happens to the characters in the future, so that's a pretty solid ending if you ask me. We will already know what happens to the remaining characters so why would she need to continue?
I also don't think she'll be pressured by the public. She's a smart woman and I think she understands more than anyone that forcing yourself to write something just to "keep it going" is not a good thing, in any way shape or form. We have 7 books, and even some extra books she's written about the Wizarding World, I think that's enough. She doesn't need to drag it out.
If she did write anything else about HP, I'd love for them to be appendixes, some background information that she's said but hasn't been written in a book. I think it would be neat to put all of that extra information into a book. But honestly I'd hate for her to drag the actual story out even further when she already has an ending.

Sadly, I have to whole heartedly agree with Dumbleydore on this one. I will be devastated after its over but I still know that I dont want JKR to write the books just for the sake of it. I hope that all of our questions are answered but I just want a solid ending to the series.

I clearly remembering thinking, immediately after seeing Return of the Jedi, that they would never make another Star Wars movie!
Given enough time, more books will be forthcoming. Of that I have no doubt. They only real question is if they will be about Harry.

I don't think that she will write more Harry Potter books. Jo has said that she won't write more harry potter but that she will write more books. Maybe they will be about the Weasley's before Hogwarts. That would be cool!

I, honestly, believe she will try to surprise us with more than 7 books!!!! I believe because I don't want the Potter fantasy to ever end!!!! I believe because she can't give up her art (which makes her lots of money)!!!! I believe because I want to believe!!!!

something tells me that unless J.K decides to kill harry in the 7th then she is going to have to make a choice. either she can make the 7th a huge book that makes OoTP look like a magazine, or she will have to write more books. This is because like i said unless she kills harry she would have to write about what happens after everything you know like what the people who survive are like when they are adults. i mean alot of things either have to be wrapped up in one more book or she can continue. plus i mean why would she give up the millions upon millions of dollars she could make by writing more books?

in my honest opinion, she will not write any more harry potter books!!! didn't JK already say that there were ONLY going to be seven??? don't get me wrong, i would absolutely love it if there were more than seven!

Apr 19 2006, 01:43 PM
JK Rowling has already confirmed that there will be no prequels (books about what happened before Hogwarts), but has said nothing about sequels. I think that the likeliness of a sequel being released is very high, because Harry and Co. simply cant find four Horcruxes in less than a year. Ms Rowling would do well to write a sequel; the suspense and cliffhangers are amazing.
Unless Rowling kills off either Harry or Voldemort in book seven, i see no reason why not to write a sequel.

Apr 22 2006, 06:13 PM
I agree with McLaggen. Though if there is no more than seven books i hope it's more than 2000 pages

. Or maybe book seven part 1, book seven part 2

. Any ways i think ( sadly) that it will end at book seven. But I also think, and hope, that it will blow out the other books like they are Kindergarten picture books. Alls we can do is hope

I believe she has said somewhere she was getting bored of writing the Harry
Potter series so I would be suprised if she wrote more than 7 (most powerful magic number!)
I will be very dissapointed if she doesnt kill off Harry or Voldemort in the 7th book because then it will add so many questions and no more books to answer them
also I would personally love to see some books about Sirius/James/Lupin/Wormtail at hogwarts

I do to One. It would be so depressing if JK didn't kill of Harry or Voldermort. If she doesn't write anymore Harry Potter books i Really do hope that she will write some about James & Co.
I wish I had JK's E-mail. then it would be easy to ask questions

It seems to me that sadly, J.K. Rowling will not write any more Harry Potter books after her seventh installment. I would be devastated if she killed Harry or any of the trio. I hope the books that she writes after the Harry Potter series are just as good no matter what they are about but preferably still involve magic! The Harry Potter books will always be my favourite books ever!!

Never say Never.

Considering the success of the series, I would be astounded if no further Harry Potter stories appeared.
You may have to wait twenty years, but I am sure they will be there eventually, just like all the other remakes and continuations we are constantly bombarded with.

Apr 24 2006, 02:08 PM
Well I guess it's what happens in the seventh book.
Say Harry dies then JK cant call it Harry Potter anymore. Or say Voldermort dies, but somehow has a son!
That would be a wicked twist hey!
What do you think?

I believe that J.K. Rowling will suprise us in the seventh book. I think that our theories might be true for some part, but for the most part I'm guessing that the story will take a sharp, unexpected turn. I also highly doubt that she will write anymore HP books after the seventh. I looked on her website, and she said that she wasn't writing anymore, except maybe an encyclopedia of sorts (I hope she does!).

Will there be a book about Harry’s Mum and Dad, about how they became friends and how they died?
So it would be “Harry Potter: Episode One”. [Laughter]. No, but a lot of people have asked that. It is all George Lucas’s fault. You won’t need a prequel; by the time I am finished, you will know enough. I think it would be shamelessly exploitative to do that. I am sure that Mr Lucas is doing it only for artistic reasons, but in my case I think that by the time you have had the seven books you will know everything you need to know for the story. |
that shoots down the chance of having a James and co. book

Apr 25 2006, 02:02 PM
Ahhh man that sucks. Oh well i guess it was going to happen. But i think it would be kinda hard to write a prequal(or what ever it is), when you know about the story after.
Don't you think?

Apr 25 2006, 04:50 PM
I think a prequel might just lead to more questions. I would like one, but I would also like the books to continue forever. And I dont think that will happen. She has said for a long time that she has the whole series mapped out, and and ending that she is working towards. So I think she probably has it planned so that it will just be over, and the final ending will be just that--final.
I really love the idea behind a Harry Potter encyclopedia. Im sure everybody would want that. I read somewhere (I dont remember where, it was an old magazine) that she has in-depth back stories of every single character. She should publish the back stories; I would love to read them.

Apr 25 2006, 07:16 PM
I know wouldnt that be coo, an Encyclopedia. Like say if you didnt know about a spell, instead of going through books to find it, it would be just right there.

Unfortunatly i doubt the won't be more that 7 books. On J.K's site she said the it would not be like Star Wars with a prequel. She didn't say anything about a sequel though. but I still think book 7 will be the last book. I it is the last on I like Harry_Potter_Fan 's idea of it being 2000 pages or Part 1 Part 2.

Apr 29 2006, 03:14 AM
I would absolutely hate a part 1 and 2 unless of course part 2 came out before I was done with part 1
Part 1: Wormtail slashed at Greyback with his hand and....(please see part 2) 8 months later ~Part 2 comes out and you have to re-read part 1 to understand the thing~
I would like a 1,000 page book though

Apr 29 2006, 02:11 PM
Funny, but you do have a point. Since the books usually tale 1 1/2 years or something like that to come out, it would almost be like book 7&8. Another thing that would be nice is end the HP series (not that bit) and start a whole new series of a student at Hogwarts or another wizard school! I doubt the series would be as good, but they would still probably be good books.

I hope that she will write more books, but my hopes aren't high because she said that she wouldn't write more. Also I hope that she doesn't try to write another series becuase if she does I don't think that she could live up to Harry Potter. Also she has enough money so she should quit before she makes a big mistake by stating a new series, so I hope that she doesn't.

I read somewhere that Jk Rowling will only write seven, not eight. Can't remember where, though. I personally hope that Harry dies in the act of killing Voldemort, and being successful. I think that would be the best way for him to go. And it would add quite an emotional ending to the series. Most people think I'm crazy to think it, but I would like that.
I also heard that JK Rowling will write other books, just not about Harry Potter or anything related to him...I hope she does, she is my insperation to become a writer.

As much as all of us would love for JKR to continue Harry Potter beyond the 7th book, it is highly unlikely. She has expressed the idea that she does not want anyone to continue her series nor for her to write more than 7 books (this hints that Harry very well may die at the end). As for her writing other books, I think that anything else she writes from this point on will be extremely popular, although I think it will be hard to read without comparing it to Harry Potter.

for me i don't think that jk will write any more books after the 7th book. i think the series has gone very far and long enough. it would almost make it too big or huge if she wrote more. i wouldn't mind having more on harry potter if he lives and what happens afterwards. jk has hinted that if she were to keep harry alive that she might consider the possibility of wrting some more books or short stories. i would read them of course because it is part of harry potter the the wizarding world but for now i don't think that she will write any more books on hp.

In my opinion, I think we can look forward to more Comic Relief type books, like Quidditch through the Ages, and Fantastical beasts and where to find them. Hogwarts, A History would fit my bookshelf nicelyy though i dont think she would pull it off with a paper thin book like the other two. I know she said no prequels but my fingers are still crossed, because I find the first war quite romantic (in the literary sense). Other than that i really cant see what she would do to keep the name alive.

i think that the hp series would not be extended anymore... i do believe that it would end up in the seventh book... one thing's coming into my mind... i do have this assumption that harry would be dead... so sad... but then, i do have that strong feeling that it may happen.. i was telling my classsmates (also addicted to hp) that harry may die in the last book... they don't like it to happen... me either... but i do have this instinct that there is a higher percent of possibility that it will surely happen... and i was also thinking that voldemort will be dead... and i have this guess that, voldemort will be totally dead when his greatest enemy would be dead too... and that's harry... if it does, then the harry potter books are the best books ever! it does not necessarily mean that i'd be happy if harry would be dead... no.. coz' it would be a tragic, great and a unique ending... but then, this is just my opinion guys...

I think that the characters and world are so well drawn as to allow for further books beyond the seventh.
But, as a writer, I believe J.K Rowling when she says there will only be 7 books in the series.
To continue for the sake of continuing and not for the sake of the storyline would eventually lead to her writing Harry books that are cheap parodies of their former selves.
This is not to say that she couldn't use her already existing world to begin a spin-off series.
Which would be foolish of her not to do!

I've just been on JKR's website, and on it she says that she only ever planned to write seven Hp novels although she hasn't discounted writing an eigth encyclopedia type book for charity using all the stuff left over from the other seven books. But she does say that No, there will not be a further Harry Potter book. I hope she does put together a book for charity, it will be intriuging to read the stuff that didn't make it into the original seven.

Ok, just a side note, why in the world is this in the department of mysteries? Shouldn't this be in the Harry Potter General Thread?
I definitely like the idea of
Hogwarts, a History. I think she'd be crazy not to write it. I mean, if she uses it for charity, think of the money it could raise. I think that book would sell better than the other two school books even.
I don't think she'll go back on her word and write more harry potter books or prequells or anything. I would be disappointed in her if she did. Well, part of me would anyway. I wish that she would open up the world for other writers, letting them write stories in the harry potter world that aren't about harry potter or its characters. But she won't. Perhaps she'll write a book of short stories like Tolkein did. but perhaps she'll learn from JRR and not.
As for non-HP books, I don't know. I think she'll write them, but I don't know if they will do very well. I have no point of reference for how her mind works outside of the HP mold. I do think that it is bound to be good, because her charactarizations, plot structures, and dialouge aren't bound to the HP world. However, I don't know if she'll be able to get away from the stigma of Harry Potter. Some authors can do this, but some can't. Orsen Scott Card, for example, has never been able to get away from Ender's Game and go on to do something else. He just keeps going back to that, and his attempts at writing other things tend to not get the respect that they deserve, because they expect the Hegemon series. James Patterson, on the other hand, has been able to do several side projects other than the Alex Cross series that have been just as sucessful as it has been. But I can't think of an author in modern history that has been as successful as JK has been for so long with such a long series. Even Tolkien (the only other series writer in the last hundred years or so whose books were even close to being as influential "in the moment," so to speak, as Rowling) only wrote three books. JK has written seven, and is so big now that statements that Harry Potter might die in the last book make the evening news. I mean, really, it's such a huge, huge craze that I don't think people really realize how big it is. How fans will react to a non-HP book is a bit of a crap shoot.

JKR said it will be 7 books, but she also said the 7th book will be shorter than OoTP. There is a lot of explaining to do and I would hate for the book to deluted with her having to provide alot of background work. If nothing else the HP series will end with 7 books, but she has hinted ar a possible charity book that goes into more character depth.
