Full Version: Which Dead Actors Would You Have Cast?

Which dead actors do you reckon would have made an amazing Voldemort, Dumbledore, Sirius, Lupin or James? I personally think that in his prime Klaus Kinski would have made an inch perfect Voldemort, he would have been fantastic. I'm not sure about Dumbledore and Lupin, but i'd say that River Phoenix would have made a good Sirius or Jmaes.

I think maybe James Dean as James. He seemed cocky enough. I don't know too many dead actors though, so I can't really say who'd be good for the others. River Phoenix could be a good Sirius, ruffle him up some and he'd be perfect.

I don't know his name, but I think the original actor who played Obi-wan-kanobi (sorry if I spelled that wrong star wars fans) would have been a very good Dumbledore. Perhaps I just think that because the two characters seem to have a lot in common, but yeah, definitely in the right make up he would be an awesome Dumbledore.
Triad
Yeah Alec Guinness would have been great as Dumbledore. And David Prowse with some hair would have been a good Peter Pettigrew - he was large and pasty faced in A New Hope, the perfect Wormtail. Excpet that he's still alive...............

I pretty much agree with the idea of Alec Guinness as Dumbledore - the man was an absolute genius and, to be honest, Obi-Wan Kenobi was the poorest performances he has ever givem (just watch him handle a total of seven roles in 'Kind Hearts and Coronets').

As for Voldemort, I personally think that Lon Chaney Jnr would have made a truly memorable Voldemort - just look at him in The Phantom of the Opera.

Another suggestion is Peter Lorre as Peter Pettigrew - he always had a particular rat like quality to his acting.

With the correct sort of make-up and wig, I'm pretty sure that Errol Flynn would have posessed the correct sort of roughish charm for Sirius.

I have to confess that I think that neither River Phoenix nor James Dean would have slotted into the Potterverse comfortably. No disrespect intended to either of them as actors, but they are too American for characters that are so essentially British.

River Phoenix would be the PERFECT Sirius!

i never thought about it before though --smacks forhead-- that was dumb.

well River Phoenix is one of my favorite all time actors, and he is what i would see Sirius as. Gary Oldman is the worst, in my opinion.

i mean, the way Sirius was described in the book he sounded a bit like..well like Aragorn sorta from lord of the rings.

but even he (Viggo Mortensen) wouldn't be as good as River Phoenix could be.
Dumbledore's Widow
Have any of you have seen the movie, "Gilda"? Rita Hayworth plays Gilda. Rita was a really beautiful woman back in those days (i940's). She was one of several pin-up girls during WWII. She is said to have had auburn hair, and I can easily see her in the role of Lily. I just love the old vintage movies!

How about Gilda Radner as Hermione? (especially when she wore that messy hairdo while playing the character Rosanna-danna [sp?]!) (Just a silly thought, so please don't get me wrong, I do LOVE Hermione!)
I think that Raymond Massey could have made a good Voldemort.
I agree that Peter Lorre would have been the ideal Wormtail.
I also agree that Alec Guinnes would have been a great Dumbledore.
Glenn Miller (though not an actor)(he was a swing band leader back in the '40's) would have been a good James Potter, I guess because of his dark hair and eyeglasses!
How about Clark Gable as Sirius and Bing Crosby as Lupin?
Joan Crawford (of "Mommy Dearest") would have played Molly quite well. sleep.gif

This is all - for now!

Cheers!

To be honest, i dont think the second dumbledore wasnt as convincing. Richard harris had the right look and really got into the calm part of dumbledore. I would of definately of kept him on. ph34r.gif

I didn't know this thread exisited, until...well now!! Anyway, I've blown off the dust ti see if there is a resurgeance in interest.

I agree that Sir Alec Guiness would have made a convincing Dumbledore. So do I believe would Sir John Mills or Sir John Guilgud. Boris Karloff as Voldemort. Katherine Hepburn would have made an incredible McGonnagal and Kenneth More would have made a rather convincing Slughorn.

I could have imagined a young Jack Wilde as Ron. That's all I can think of at the moment...
