Here it is, version numero dos for all the elite thinkers among us! It's been long in coming with sixty exhaustive pages it was high time a shiny new thread was made. wink.gif

I guess we need a set of rules for those not familiar with the process of riddle-giving and riddle-answering.

Once a riddle is given and a member answers correctly, confirmation must come from the person who originally gave the riddle. When the answer is deemed correct the member who answered is allowed to post a riddle.

Exception to this rule: If the guesser or confirmation never come, the thread is allowed to be "bumped" with a new riddle. But we're talking several days here, not hours.

For reference, the archived thread may be found here.

I believe *potter* is up to claim the correct answer to her riddle:
There was a man going to scotland on friday, he went for three days and came back on friday. How is that possible?
Hm...
Anglophile92
Oky, I'm going to take a hit at this...My guess would that his horse was named Friday. That's why it would be possible. To be honest, that's the only reason I came up with.
*potter*
well done Anglophile92 you got it right his animal was a horse that he rode to Scotland!
HP#1_wee_lil'
I knew that!!!! whoo!! Ok ive got a little riddle.

As Harold looked bordley out of the filthy window of the high rise flat he knew he could take no more. Losing all will power he had left he opened the window and jumped.

Harold was at the 14th floor of the high rise flat yet after his jump he came out unhurt without a scrap in sight. How was this? wink.gif
Anglophile92
Wait a minute.... I got it right, doesn't that mean it's my turn to post a riddle? wink.gif
Correct me if i'm wrong.

So I go. Okies! Try to answer this one:
This guy living on the 20th floor in an apartment building got up early each morning to go to work in a downtown store. He always went into the elevator on the 20th floor and rode down to the entrance (1st floor). When he came home he always rode the elevator from the entrance and up to the 8th floor. He walked out of the elevator and walked the stairs up to his apartment on the 20th floor.

Why don't he take the elevator all the way up to his apartment?

Good Luck! biggrin.gif
HP#1_wee_lil'
Sorry!!! I didn't know that was the rules. Bad me!!

Ok, I think I've heard this one before.. Was the guy to short to reach the buttons that lead to the top floors?
Hermione 14
Ok..I think that I have heard this one before, is it that he is too short to reach the button for the 20th floor, but on his way down he can of course reach the button for the 1st floor, because the buttons are arranged numerically from bottom to top, 20=top button; 1=bottom button

-Kelly
Anglophile92
You guys are so close!!! But there is a word i'm looking for. Try again. tongue.gif

next time i will find a harder one.... sleep.gif
Hermione 14
hmm..is the key word midget, because neither os us mentioned that specific word..and it would work I think?? Probably completely off..oh well
Anglophile92
Correct! biggrin.gif This guy is a midget and can only reach to the 8th floor button. Okay then. Hermione14 you're up!
Hermione 14
Hmm..here we go...

Johnny's mother had three children. The first child was named April. The second child was named May. What was the third child's name?

good luck!

-kelly
HP#1_wee_lil'
I'm going to guess it as June... its just logical

NONO NO !! It's Johnny!!!! Im so silly its Johnny

Hermione 14
Sorry..but nope =], not that that's a happy thing, but Im not gonna give any hints yet..keep guessing though..haha I love it when other people have as much common sense as me...just kidding =] ...because I didnt get it at first either, made the exact same guess

-kelly

EDiT: didnt wanna double post, but yes!! its Johnny..haha I love how my riddle took literally 10 minutes to solve..its your turn now...
Anglophile92
I'm going to say Johnny. Hermione14 said that Johnny's mother had three children. That's logical right? wink.gif
Hermione 14
Sorry, Anglophile92, but HP#1_wee_lil' got the answer like not even a minute before you, I hate it when that happens lol..so its their go..

-kelly
HP#1_wee_lil'
Sorry, it wasn't until after I'd posted the first one I knew I was wrong... sad.gif

Anyway, my turn ! whoohoo!
Right I'll do the one I wrongly posted earlier on.

As Harold looked bordley through the filthy window of the high rise flat he knew he could take no more. Losing all will power he had left he opened the window and jumped.

Harold was at the 14th floor of the high rise flat yet after his jump he came out unhurt without a scrap in sight. How was this?
Anglophile92
Hey it's okay! biggrin.gif
Now to answer this riddle....i really don't know. I'm going to take a guess here....the place was so filthy that he landed softly on the trash... ph34r.gif
HP#1_wee_lil'
Um nice guess, but no. Sorry , try to think about ... wait no I wont give clues yet... happy.gif
gaburdette
At the start Harold was outside on the ledge. When he lost his will power he opened the window and jumped back inside safe and sound.
*potter*
harold was looking through a window leading to another room and then he opened the window and jumped to the other room! im so bad at riddles i just guessed!!!!

Just the Droobles
gaburdette totally stole my guess!! geez...

QUOTE
Losing all will power he had left he opened the window and jumped.

He got mad because he couldn't see out the window, so he opened it to see. He jumped for joy when he saw outside. Yay!! laugh.gif
gaburdette
Not to be pushy "HP#1_wee_lil'" (well maybe a little) but has anyone gotten close to the answer? I think I am right and I have a riddle ready to go but I do not want to stick my foot in my mouth by being wrong and posting the riddle.

We wait to hear from you!
Albus-wan
Hey, greg--it looks like HP#1_wee_lil' hasn't been around in four days. Since your answer seems like it could be right and you've got one to post, why don't you go ahead.
gaburdette
Thanks Albus. Ok I have a different riddle than yesterday. Lets have a who did it riddle.

A man was found murdered one Sunday morning.

His wife immediately called the police.

The police questioned the wife and staff and were given these alibis:

The Wife said she was in bed reading a book.
The Cook claimed she was cooking breakfast.
The Gardener claimed he was planting seeds.
The Maid claimed she was getting the mail.
The Butler claimed he was polishing the silver.

The police instantly arrested the murderer. Who did it and how did they know?

Good Luck
Vindictive Dark
This is going to be a real big shot in the dark.

Could it be the butler, because of his excuse of "polishing the silver"? That could be anything. It could be a silver sword, axe, or just plain knife. And if you've ever played Clue before, it could even be a candlestick. That's what came to mind for me. smile.gif
Kisangyal
Well, I'm not sure, but probably the Maid, because there are no mails delivered on Sunday.
El Barto
ah nice Kisangyal, I just read it and thought maybe the wife didn't know to read.
gaburdette
Very good Kisangyal! It was indeed the maid. No mail service in the US or UK on Sundays. I'm not sure about the rest of the world though.

Now it your turn to pose a riddle to us.
Kisangyal
All right, so this is my turn. smile.gif
It's a pretty hard one - I heard it from one of my best friends in the summer -, it took an hour for three of us to solve it.
(Otherwise my Mom is very good at these, I told her the one which is about the short man in the elevator and she immadiately knew the answer. ^^ Ok, first she thought that the man had no legs (my Mom is a surgeon), but then she realised that this way he couldn't walk from the 8th floor to the 20th.)

Jane and James were found dead in a room, near an opened window. In front of the window stood a table, and there was water and broken glass on the floor. What had happened?

Hm, well, I'll answer some of your questions, I think it's impossible to solve it without further information. wink.gif
Albus-wan
I guess I'll post a few quick questions, since you say it's impossible to get without further information.

Are Jane and James human?

Was wind involved in the death?

If it wasn't wind, did a human cause their deaths?

If it wasn't a human, was it some form of animal?
Kisangyal
Wow, you got really close to the answer. wink.gif

So...

No, they're not human, and yes, wind was involved in the death. smile.gif
Daniel Potter
Erm...they were aliens! The wind caught their UFO and they landed in an apartment of some sort. The wind knocked down the glasses filled with water. The glass broke, and since aliens cant touch water, they died when they touched the liquid.

Chris
Kisangyal
Oh, well, nice try, but they're not aliens. wink.gif
Daniel Potter
Darn! Oh, they were having tea, when suddenly, the wind blew their drinks down. Their new shirts got stained and they had panic attacks and died...?
Kisangyal
biggrin.gif Nice theory, but I have to say no. ^^ Actually I really hate 'oh my God, my new dress got dirty, what should I do?' - people, if you know what I mean. wink.gif I won't tell riddles about them. tongue.gif
Albus-wan
Hey, Kisangyal, I know it's really tempting to post one-line responses in this thread when you're telling people whether or not they got the riddle right, but I have to encourage you to not post one-liners in any of the forums. I'm afraid the moderators like to shut down threads if too many people start posting one-liners in them.

Anyways, in order to prevent Daniel Potter from making increasingly inane guesses, my guess is that Jane and James are fish, and the glass and water were the fish bowl which got blown over by the wind.
Kisangyal
Yes, I'm sorry, I wanted to edit it and write about something that can make my post longer, but I forgot it somehow. ^^

And yes, you're right, they were fish. wink.gif (It's so surprising for me, that you thought that they might not be human. It took hours for us. wink.gif )
Albus-wan
I'm sorry to tell you that I had heard that one before. I just knew that there would be two types of people out there--those who had already heard it, and those who wouldn't get it unless an awful lot of questions were asked.

Okay, here's one that's cute, but not too hard:

"That attorney is my brother!" testified the accountant.

"But I don't have a brother!" countered the attorney.

Who's lying?
Snowdrop
Hmmm, was the accountant female? If so, no one is lying. That would be my very first guess, I'm not that good at riddles... wink.gif

PS: well, in fact, it is not sure, that the accountant wasn't lying, since it is still possible that the attorney does not have any siblings at all. huh.gif
Albus-wan
You're right, Snowdrop. The accountant was his sister and no one was lying, though the attorney was on the edge of lying (where they seem to live their lives) by including the word "but".

Anyways, good job, Snowdrop. It's your turn to post a riddle now.
Snowdrop
Yeah, 'but' sounded a bit unnecessarily confusing.

Okay, my turn. As I've already said, I'm not very good at riddles (one of the few things I'm not good at wink.gif *joking*), sorry if my one is nothing that you would call a quality riddle. happy.gif

Anyway, here you are:

A man was born in 1955. He's alive and totally healthy today at age 33. How is this possible?
secretkeeper
He was born on leap year. I'm not sure if 33 is the right answer. If it isn't, then today is 1988. One of those has to be right.
Snowdrop
Nope, no leap years, sorry. Besides, 1955 is not a leap year either. happy.gif
And with today I really meant today, ie. around the millenium somewhere, let's say even nowadays.

But nice guesses, keep on trying, and let me know immediately, if you need some clues. wink.gif
felix_felicis_444
Hmmmm...hmmmm...

Could "1955" be number of the hospital room? So he was born in room 1955 only 33 years ago?

Hmph...that seems reasonable to me, no? *sigh*, I guess I will just walk away... 1eye.gif (what a great smiley.....)

_daviD
Snowdrop
Hey, congratulations! wink.gif It is indeed the number of the hospital room. Now, I guess it's your turn.
Anglophile92
James was just about to give Jane some water, when suddenly they see Voldemort. Out of shock James dropped the glass of water. Voldemort used his wand to open the window and then quickly killed them using the Killing Charm.

That explains it eh??? laugh.gif tongue.gif
Snowdrop
Yeah, and this is what they call real obsession. No wonder, this is VTM, right? we all have the same obsession. wink.gif

Anyway, let's wait for felix_felicis' riddle. smile.gif
felix_felicis_444
OOooh! Yay! I thought for sure I was wrong....Anyways, on to the next riddle...

I figured since we always have mathematical riddles and tricky-worded brainteasers, it was time to mix things up. Here is a science riddle! Probably the first ever on the Jokes and Riddles Thread...

What number comes next in this series?

89, 13, 95, 51, 18, 33

Good luck and happy guessing!

_daviD
Anglophile92
This one was hard. I had to admit. But I do think I know the answer. The next number will be 85. Is it?

Sorry about the last post. I was referring to the one with James and Jane. And I meant it as a joke...he he he blush.gif
felix_felicis_444
Hmmm, yes, this was a very tough riddle, I must admit.
You technically do have the correct number that comes next in the sequence, but it would be nice if you gave everybody some reasoning behind it wink.gif .....So, how did you arrive at your answer??
