It's already been announced that a man named McLagan will be a new character introduced to us in book 6.
If any of you have gone to J.K Rowlings site, and peeked inside the door..and well, gotten the next clue to the 6th book, then I want to ask you something.
Suppose that the man Jo was describing could be McLagan? What if it was? Or it could be a totally new character. It could also be Godric Gryffindor, for all we know..
But could this McLagan be related to GG, if he IS the person Jo is describing?

When I first read it, none of the characters that we have information on came to mind. It could be GG, b/c we have absolutely no idea what he looked like. It could be McClagan or someone else...it is a clue nonetheless, but at this point, I find it quite useles. It doesn't help...ahhhh@!!!

I guess the "no new characters" rumour is false. And I've been telling everyone that there actually wasn't going to be anymore new characters... sigh (I've just read the bit of McClaggan). Maybe he's the new DADA professor?! Heheh.

A new DADA prof could be his position; however, since JKR has just recently fell in love with the name, would she really use him as such an important role? Based on what she had said, she is roughly half way done with the book. I am thinking more of a cameo appearance by this guy. By halfway along the book, the DADA should have made an appearance somehow.

If McLaggan was the new DADA professor, the man described in the excerpt, great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandson of Godric Gryffindor, and a half-blood (or possibly someone who stands for the muggle-borns and half-bloods, but not one himself)... let's all just hope that maybe he'll be as great a professor and character as Lupin. Almost.
Hey, she likes the name a lot, maybe she'll make him hold the fantastic personality that so few of our characters currently inhabit. Does the description give that clue? This is just a "what if"...

Erm... I don;t know...it seems to me that she would have already had a name for the last and longest lasting DADA teacher, wouldn't she? When I read it I thought it would be a new student or something. A first year, or somebody not mentioned until now. Just in passing. Really not important.
Or I could be completly wrong, and for that, I'm sorry.

Well it seems from the description to be a little on the old side to be a new student...the one mentioned in the excerpt *sp*, I mean....I don't know entirely if Mclagan and the person written about on the peice of paper behind the door are the same person, that'd make it too simple, wouldn't it?

to me it sounds like someone who might work in the ministry for some reason.

That exerpt that came from behind the door does not necesarily mean that it is McLaggan. She recently found this name, and to me, that description sounds like it probably came from early on in the book, something that would have been written a while ago when we get most of our character descriptions. I am leaning more towards a random student that is being met for the character of McLaggan.

hmmm for me, the name McLagan sounds like someone old. so i'm guessing it could be the person that Rowling was talking about behind the door. or maybe its godric himself. i dont know.
i never thought that he could be the new DADA professor. great idea, but still, his name doesnt sound like he would be one to me...argh. sorry =\
it's too late to introduce a new student, ya know? she already did that with luna, so it'll be kinda like she couldnt think of anything else.

JKR seems to have chosen the name fairly whimsically, you know...just 'cos she likes the sound of it. I really don't think she'd do that with a character who was important to the plot because she's normally so selective in her choices. Maybe he's just some Ministry guy or convert into the Order or something.

yeah he doesnt sound terribly importatn, just like she needed a name for some character harry meets, and she liked that one.

Actually, that's a good point, would JKR be showing off someone TERRIBLY important at this early stage? It seems perhaps a bit like saying *oh, and in case you all were wondering, this is what happens in the end:*, you know?

i don't think he'll be the most important thing in the book, but it's interesting nonetheless. i don't think he'll just be someone who's in like one chapter of the book, i think he'll be a moderately big character... just not the main focus of the book.
and mentioning a characters name or description doesn't give away anything about the end

Oh, I know, I know....

*throws a pillow friendlily at severely_serverus* I just meant, along the lines of...well...you wouldn't really wanna give away anything too big and key at this stage, kinda thing...is what I meant...

yep, true true. that'd be kind of funny though... she's good at making people wonder though, and in a way giving out something big... but not big enough to know why it's big lol.
example, telling us that the last word of the last chapter of book seven is "scar"... still haven't figured out what that's going to be, and i'm going to take a wild guess in saying that i probably never will
maybe it'll be:
"And all that remained of young Harry Potter, was his scar." lol. that'd be kind of amusing. not so much if it actually happened though

Oh, and *throws a pillow friendlilyier at Nivaya* lol.

*thinks* What, like, a little flap of skin with the scar on it? Cos that'd be pleasantly gory!!! *giggle*
Yeah, I've put way way too much thought into that last word too...Can't get my mind off what someone posted here about it being like, the funeral "party" at the Dursley's....teehee...
But then there's that thing about Harry surviving the last book but not into adulthood nessesarily....argh, too much thinking, brain hurts....

I could see her killing Harry off just because if she doesn't, people will never stop bugging her to write another book. Though at the same time, I have a hard time seeing it... because well, a lot of kids read the books... I have a hard time seeing her shatter all their hopes and dreams by killing off their hero, it's just wrong.
And mmm... maybe Harry died and the scar like burned into the ground or something lol, kind of like the walk of fame in hollywood... only instead he fell on the ground and his scar was sizzled in lol. never know
But yeah. lol, way too much thinking has been done... but JK knows what not to tell us, she wouldn't give away too much. and even if she told us something big, I doubt we'd really know it's big, or know why until it actually takes place.

I was wondering if that explanation was talking about the new defense against the dark arts teacher. Maybe McLagan is the new DADA.
