Hey, whats up everyone?! This is just a little topic I was interested in starting for all those people who weren't always into Harry Potter, like me.

Well, before my Harry Potter life, I was into other books and less exciting movies. dry.gif I started this book called The Wedding Planner's Daughter(has anyone read it?) but never finished it because I was soon into Harry Potter. In fact I never really used to finish one book at a time. I would read three books at a time. As for movies, I watched all these boring kid movies, like not really boring but not the best, like animated movies with weird plots. I was one crazy kid back then. wacko.gif Ahhh, well. Enough about me, what about you guys and gals?
Lithium
Oh Gosh, I don't remember life before Harry Potter!!! Was there even life before it!? tongue.gif But I believe I was really huge on Anne Rice's vampire chronicles, which I still love mind you just not as much as Harry Potter.
limeXlollipop
Before Harry Potter, I was really obsessed with A Series of Unfortunate Events. I still love it, though. I have to finish the twelfth book .. I got sidetracked and started reading Prisoner of Azkaban again. Anyway, I'm off topic. Yes. I was really obsessed with A Series of Unfortunate Events, and in July I bought Interview With A Vampire by Anne Rice, and read half of it but I never got to finish. I realised I like Harry Potter on August 1st, and just became completely obsessed so I never got to finish it!

before HP, I was about two and a half feet tall laugh.gif

I dont really remember what I was into. I was about 4... then I guess, I was into learning how to read, watching the simpsons (yes, even when I was 4) going to school...
*Quidditch Princess*
limexlollipop, i was also into a series of unfortunate events before HP. I am finishing the twelfth one right now. i just got into HP in november and finished all the books before 2006. I do still like other books but I love HP more.

Love hearing from you, this is the first thing I've started here on VTM!

Before Harry Potter.....

(This is very embarrassing) I was into YU-GI-OH, Harry Potter was already around then but I wasn't it into as much. I played the card game, which I was really good at tongue.gif, and I watched the Episodes every saturday morning.

Interesting Topic...

Before Harry Potter I didn't really read very much. Infect, all I read was what i had to read for school or something. Thats very deferent now, though. I read way too much now. I have no idea why Harry Potter did that to me, but iv met other people who have had that happen to them too. Its a good thing it did! I love reading now.

Me before HP... heh heh... scary... tongue.gif

I believe I was in sixth grade when I started reading HP, though it took until I was thirteen before I got obsessed to the point that I began to closely associate myself with the fandom. I think I might have been showing some signs of having a social life back then... not much of one, mind... but maybe more than what I've got six years later.... laugh.gif

My interests haven't changed too much since I got involved in HP, really. My Huge Obsession before the dawn of this era (happy.gif) was horseback riding, but while that definitely hasn't gone away over time, I think it's fair to say that I'm not quite as onto the idea of owning a horse anymore; I'm much more content to take lessons and not compete and all that than I was at one point. I don't know whether I should attribute that to HP or simply the fact that I got more interested in academics when I started high school and basically enjoyed allowing studying to take over all my free time, but there you have it...
ginny_and_ harry_4ever
I started reading Harry Potter in year 2 (4 years ago), so I didn't have much intrests then but I remember that i liked the Saddle club before HP *blushes red*. But now I'm into HP and well Daniel radcliffe *blushes again*
pisces_girl
before Harry Potter....

I was totally obsess with anime (japanese cartoons) specifically ghost fighter. Gosh! rolleyes.gif

That was so embarasing, I don't really read a lot then.

I started to read when I'm already in high school.

I'm still into anime but i like HArry Potter better. smile.gif

Before I read HP...I read, er, um, what did I read? I know that I didn't like TV or the computer! I liked the Series of Unfortunate Events (and still do) and read them one a day.I mostly read just random books, I think, 30 or so at a time blink.gif ! Then, when I was like 8(3 or 4 years ago)my mom got me HP because I kept asking her to(because when I was little(when we were building our new house)I lived with my cousins and my cousin read a bit of PoA to me)and I read steadily through the first 3 or 4(can't remember exaclty huh.gif )and then-the wait began....

Now, after HP, I can hardly do anything with out thinking about Harry or Ron or Hermione or someone from HP-and I write, which I wasn't as motivated before reading JKR's work.

There was life before Hp? laugh.gif I didn't think so...

Harry Potter appeared in third grade for me so I was just a little kid with not much of a life anyways. rolleyes.gif I think I remember being very involved with the Series of Unfortunate Event books like some of yall, but that may have been later when I hadn't entered the fandom yet. I've dropped the Unfortunate Event books for good, that story just lost it's spark after the ninth. Too depressing for my taste...
I was totally into that kid show Arthur (he was the aardvark). Absolutely adored that show, I must have seen every episode...
I also had an obsession for this guy named Stephen (does that count as having a life? tongue.gif); complete cutie, but we never got past the holding-hands-on-the-playground stage.

Eight-year olds don't have much of lives do they? Or was I the only one lacking? tongue.gif
luckyfish
Oh wow! I can't really remember cos it was such a long time ago! sleep.gif
But I recall reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and I wasn't really a computer person. tongue.gif
I also watched TV and played in the garden, reminder:I was young!
Titania
Hmm...well I don't think I can bring myself to remember life before HP. I was in third grade when I read the first book.

Needless to say, I never did read the second book. I did consider myself a general HP fan and I watched the first 3 movies.

It was only last summer that I brought it upon myself to read all of the books uptil HBP. It was then that I became a crazed HP maniac.

Don't really remember life before HP. I was always a bookworm, I can't say I've had fandom for any other books. I do remember watching alot of TV though happy.gif
Urik Burik
My life wasnt any intressting at all.
I almost forgotten all about it.
My life would have been as boring if i never began reading HP. smile.gif
Lizzy_Radcliffe
Me, have a life before Harry Potter? That's impossible! Although, I did read LOTR and that kind of stuff. I first read HP when I was like 8, I think... I wasnt a huge fan until the movies started coming out, and I fell in love with Dan wub.gif

I remember that I did like the Narnia books...umm...

I also liked horse books, like Saddle Club and the Wonder books, whatever they were called. Oh, and I absolutely loved the Animorphs. geek.gif

That's about it. I would read books(prolly 10-15 at a time)and be the smart lil child that I was. Harry Potter changed me from a regular nerd to a happy magic nerd. Yeah!!! biggrin.gif
Mrs. Radcliffe
Hmmm... Life before Harry Potter...

What Life?
Omerus_Banning
Well, I'm an oldie (37) so I had lots of time to be into all kinds of crazy stuff prior to getting into the Potterverse.

Some of my past interests, in no particular order:

The AMTRAK Wars, by Patrick Tilley. Post-apocalyptic world where desendants of US military personel live underground and battle the "Mutes", survivors who live above ground.

Star Trek

Star Wars

Dragonlance, both the novel and the RPG (That'd be pen & paper RPG, kids... ) wink.gif

The Vampire stories of Anne Rice (I was in Korea at the time and loved them!)

Tom Clancy (I grew up in a military family and my university courses were in diplomacy and arms control, so...)

The X-Files. I was addicted to that show. I thought it was the greatest thing since, since.... Well, ever! I still watch it from time to time...

Space:1999. I wanted to be on the moonbase so bad!!

Anything and everything Lord of the Rings (Unfinished Tales and The Silmarillion were my faves...)

I was also lead guitar for an Iron Maiden cover band called Killers, way back when... Then did a stint in a Metallica cover band...

That about covers the past.

Now, other than HP, I'm into synth programming (mostly VSTi, used in Buzz), I enjoy LOST and spending time with my family...

That's about it really!

Tigers Eye
Nothing, my life was an empty existance........a body which was just an empty shell until one day i picked up a book sent down by the high heavens (or JKR) and started to read. Then everything suddenly past by and here i am!

Seriously, it just feels that all my life i have been reading Harry Potter, its seriously scary!
griffindor_girl
Hey! Well, I got into Harry Potter quite late actually, only a year ago when I was 14 (I am ASHAMED!). I was quite stubborn and although I was told how good it was, I continued to read bland old Enid Blyton and books like that. I enjoyed classics and I still do, but really, they don't rate compared to Harry Potter!! When I was younger I really loved Pokemon, I was into that phase completely; in fact, I blame Pokemon! It came out around the same time as Harry Potter and distracted me from reading it! Before Harry Potter I definitely lived a happy existence but now, I just feel so connected to the books, very attatched because I rarely travel without one in my school bag or handbag lol! They have added to the fufillment of my life really, I read more now than I ever have and I don't know how I went without them for so many years! heart.gif magic.gif
Fall_out_Girl
i never liked reading before harry potter. i was like addicted to the television, but i didnt go on the computer and join these sites (i.e. Veritaserum, MySpace, FriendsorEnemies, stuff like that). and all my friends thought i was boring, haha, which i was before i started reading harry potter.
HP_RULES!
Well, I don't remember much of my life before Harry Potter. I think that the first book came out in 1998, which would make me 8 years old so I was in to cartoons. With books, I loved the Chrionicles of Narnia and I was into Lord of the Rings. I also loved all of the horse books and movies, like the whole Saddle Club thing. I read a lot, I've always been a book nerd, but Harry Potter made me a proud nerd! smile.gif
HP^4^Life
I had a life before Harry Potter but it seems Harry Potter has made it better, either Im insane or completely obsessed everything I do I think about Harry Ron and Hermione, Ive watched Prisoner of Azkaban and Golbet of Fire four times each yesterday and Im getting my mom to rent PS/SS and CoS because I forgot.
Spencer Potter
Well I didnt really have a life at 6 years old lol. I started reading PS/SS in 2002 but never finished it, then my cousin was always reading Harry Potter, who is Harry_Potter_fan on this website, then I got into Harry Potter. I bought OotP, GoF, and HBP all in one time and read them in 1 week. Well I havent read GoF. Then I watched PoA and GoF and CoS atleast 1 million times each yesterday, I love Harry Potter.
fragglecomegomibayas
Well, I was into Isabel Allende's City of the Beasts series, (which, by the way, are very good) and The Lord of The Rings, and I think that's it...I really wasn't into Harry Potter until after the first movie, my brother was reading the books before the movie but I never got drawn into it, but then I saw the movie and started reading them. Is that lame? hehehe

Anyway, that's my story tongue.gif

phoenix_song
Well considering I was only in 4th grade when I read Harry Potter I read all the time. I wasnt into any music scene, I was jsut that girl that hung out at the library, liked school, and wrote a lot. I'm still pretty much that girl, but I'm into music just as much as my reading & writing. But before Harry Potter....I didnt really change, othe than I dont talk a lot, othe than, like I said, Harry Potter, witing, and music. dork. thank you.
Spencer Potter
Haha I was 6 years old when Harry Potter came out. I dont know what I did before. Cant remember, but who cares about the past?
wizkid_12
well i was like 8 or 9 when harry potter came out so.....what kind of life can you really have? i was a big pokemon fan though ha! other than that just a cartoon lover i guess=)
nenna5_luvz_draco
Before Harry Potter? I was a Dragon Ball Z freak addict! *laughs* I still love it! Even though it has long since been over!
swhitney536
I was really into this book called Ender's Game and all of it's sequels. They're still like my favorite books, Harry Potter ties them.
After the Burial
I was a bookworm in high school. I read Lord of the Rings several times, so guess I was into that. But nothing has ever caught my attention like Harry Potter. Harry Potter restored my love of reading for pleasure.
makemeinvisible
This is going to make me sound really old style and old fashioned. But my Mum collects 'Biggles' Books (has nearly the whole collection about 120 different titles) and I've read every different title. Anyone who has studied childrens literature at some point may have heard of Biggles.
To explain, Biggles was a fictional British pilot of World War I and World War II. The stories follow his exploits as a pilot during the war and then after the war when he became a James Bond style detective of the skies.

Look them up on eBay, some are really pricey, I'm just glad that Mum already had them.

I was (and still am!) obsessed with Biggles. But I was always reading something different, then I read Harry and I haven't been able to settle into other authors since. They all lack the creative and artistic ability that you find in the Potter series.
Duke Drachen
I don't really remember it, seeing as I was like 3 when they came out...
After the Burial
Ah, you are growing up with Harry Potter. Consider yourself fortunate. A great series like this comes along but once every 50 years or so (with the popularity and all). Quite often these great books are the magus of secret knowledge until they hit the masses (Lord of the Rings until the movies hit the theatres...I mean in the US).
777Wisconsin
I was watching re-runs of Married With Children. Whoooooooa BUndy
SpinJam
I was into reading and rereading all of the Dune books by Frank Herbert. They are a great study on human mental capacity, politics, economics, you name it. There are set in a different world/universe, and the people seem a little strange most of the time. Most of his ideas are based in reality and the idea that we can all realize a true potential beyond the average that is so present in our lives. I was also in college at the time, so expanding my knowledge base was foremost at the time.
MIKOH
before i enter the hp world i was living my early childhood so i was really obssessed with pokemon i read my first hp book after i watched the first movie that was back in 2001 after that movie i really liked it, i was a bit scared of the lord voldemort that pops out of quirell's head though i had alot of nightmares about it(i was a kid, Lol) then my mum got me the third book as my birthday present and i really liked that too then i started reading the books and tracking their progress but i never started real obsession untill last year after i read the sixth book i started looking for hp sites on the internet i first got through scholastic and then jkrowling.com and from there i got to veritaserum i think it was in the trophy room where it sadly left sad.gif .
alohomora
gosh
i wasnt really into anything special before harry potter...
i just read a lot, watched TV a lot, did my homework, went to school, played piano, hung around with friends... that was basically my life before i started reading the HP books and discovered this website
Harry Potter Fan
Lets see the first Harry Potter came out in July 1997. I was 7 years old going to be 8 the next month. I can't really remember what I was into. Other than I just completed the 1st grade.
Avada Kedavra 44
My life had no meaning before Harry Potter!!! biggrin.gif
El Barto
Avada Kedavra 44, stop posting one-liners. Please read the rules, I've told you about this before. One-liners are not allowed because you must elaborate in your posts, meaning you must at least add to the discussion using around 3 and half lines. I know its hard to add something more than one line in a topic such as this, though sad.gif

As for life before Harry Potter. It was dark, cold, and bitter. I think I was into Dragon Ball Z for a while there...and then the show ended in the USin 2002 or around there and I didn't care to watch GT. It was a dark chapter in my life I guess. I was introduced to Harry Potter in the Christmas of '99 I think...which would make it my 7th grade. I was into collecting pokemon cards...still not sure why I did that but I sold most of them, maybe that was why. blink.gif

Other than those two, I haven't really been a fanatic of anything else. Except the Simpsons of course...
Claire
I can't really remember what I was in to back then because I started reading the books when I was about........ say... huh.gif five...six..seven? And I've been obsessed ever since!!(Well technically I didn't read the books. I had them read to me. I was still obsessed though!)
But I'm not that extremely sad. Sadly. I am into other things like swimming, hurling(long story), drama, horse riding......... and reading some of the best books in the planet tongue.gif .(I'm only saying 'some' of the best books because we do have to acknoledge The Lord Of The Rings and the amazing genius of Tolkien)
needless_needing
Life before Harry Potter... uhmm... i'm just hanging around, looking for something nice to look at, concentrating in my studies, read a lot of filipino horror books, watch suspense-thriller movies. Well i was at fifth-grade back then so i have nothing much to do...except e-mail my godfather for christmas presents. I never knew one-lined replies are not allowed.
flutequeen84
Hmmm...life before HP...it just wasn't worth living. Haha, just kidding. I actually didn't start reading them til I was about 21, which was about a year and a half ago. But it didn't take long for me to get obsessed with HP. I read the first in about 2 days, the 2nd in exactly 24 hours. But yeah, not a lot has changed since I started reading them, I still do my homework and practice my flute. Only now I check on info and this on a daily basis. smile.gif
Shadeslayer
hmm. that was 6 years ago and i loved star wars
maia_potter
I first read them when I was 10, so before that I don't remember too much, hehe.

I wasn't one of the many persons who started reading thanks to the HP books, since I have a memory that I like reading. But the Harry Potter books were the first big ones.

I liked playing in the computer, hhhmm.. I used to read a serie of books from a national writer. There was nothing that I was really fond of, to be honest, Harry Potter is the first thing I'm obsessed with.

xD

Narcissa;-
Hmmm... Life before Harry Potter... I'm not sure if i had that tongue.gif
haha just kidding.. anyways..
I used to be so obssesed with Buffy the Vampire slayer.
hahah i know oh oh and Angel too tongue.gif

but when HP came along.. Hello Draco..i mean Harry. Goodbye Buffy

tongue.gif
Annasor
Well I still do the things I used to before HP...just not the much...I love reading Ra Salvatore books and The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan.I love Anime which i don't think it will be long before they turn HP into an aime that would be awsome. But yeah it was a boring/geeky life. Oh and what i did for fun is what i do still and that is learning languages for fun...oh yes folks i'm serious popular material over here.
petey
i was really into the sherlock holmes books for years but they weren't very exciteing. i have always liked star wars. i was probably two when i first saw 4-6 although i can't really remember the first time i just know i didn't understand what was going on. no ofense but i still like starwars more than harry potter when it comes to movies. book wise HP is the best. i was also into jurassic park for awhile. i was really into yugioh for a couple years(i still have about 500 cards and my old deck in my closet somewhere). oh the things i did just to play that game.

i only got into harry potter a little less than a year ago but they're about the best books i've ever read(and i've read ALOT of books)
Hilly
blink.gif Me? Life before Harry Potter?? HA!

Honestly? I don't think I can remember that far back. I think I was a bit of a Lord of the Rings geek... Well on and off, I guess, I wasn't really addicted. I also fell in love with a TV show called Dark Angel... Even though it was kind of cheesy I still apsolutely loved it! But now that Harry Potter is here... well... happy.gif
