New to the Great Hall? Then post in here and say hi to your fellow debators! I'm sure debates will run a lot more smoothly if we all know a little bit more about everyone so don't be shy!!
It would be nice too is you could let everyone know what name you prefer to be called by - username or real name. This would be particularly helpful if you have a long username or a difficult one to spell!!

I've introduced myself loads of times already and I'm sure everyone's sick of hearing it, so it's in my profile for those of you who don't know me

All right, I think it's about time I introduced myself, since I missed that when joining VTM.
So,
my name is Nora, a name which I did not accept for a very long time, but I guess I'm getting used to it, since it has been marking me for 19 years now.

My friends basically call me Nora or Nori, but I'm not very sensitive about names, so feel free to choose between my real name and my nick -- it's really up to you.
I'm a medical student from Hungary, live with my mum and my
dog. I really enjoy reading if it comes to something interesting, and of course I'm fond of HP. Unfortunately, I also developed a bad habit of sitting almost 24/7 in front of my notebook called Eeyore, which is actually a FSC amilo d 7850 (to be more exact, the 512 MB RAM & P4 3.06 GHz type), and the love of my life.
A dear friend of mine has invited me to join VTM, and altough I sometimes have serious language problems, I really like it here. It's nice to meet people from all over the world, united by the same hobby (or is HP a lifestyle?

). Besides, imo the idea of making a not necessarily HP-connected forum like The Great Hall is brilliant -- yet another opportunity to share thoughts, even about hot real-life issues.

Hello, everyone! I am delighted to be a part of the Great Hall. My username isn't exactly easy to type, so everyone here calls me Amanda. (There are a few other nicknames I have acquired along the way, but we won't discuss those here! Hehehe.) Can I borrow that little intro thing from Vian? Here goes!
Name: Amanda
Age: 14
NickName: Amanda or Manda.
Fav. HP book: HBP. Harry does a lot of growing up in that book.
Fav. HP movie: GoF - it was totally WICKED! I can't wait until it comes out on DVD!
Fav. HP word: Cruciatus. That is the most awesome word I have ever heard, really.
Fav. HP Spell: Remember, in second year, when Draco and Harry were dueling, and Draco said a spell that shot a snake from his wand? I don't know how to spell it, but that's it.

Character I'm most like: Ginny

Welcome everyone to the Great Hall and our little Duelling Club. It is good to see some new faces posting in here.

Your language seems perfectly fine to me. I do not think you will have any problems here.
I am one of the three members of the Inquisitorial Squad that runs this section of VTM. My name is Greg. Most people call me that or you can call me by my screen name. Either is fine.
I'm a thirty something Mechanical Engineer and live in sunny Florida. It is a rather boring job so I make my day fun by spending way too much time here. I have been married nearly fifteen years and have three beautiful little girls. The oldest two are Harry Potter fans and are counting down the days to the GoF DVD release.
I am just as opinionated as Mae but I do have an open mind and will give careful consideration of your posts. All that I ask is that you do the same for mine.
Please make sure that you follow the rules that have been posted for this area. They are a little stricter than the general forums. I do not like being the bad guy but I will step in if someone can not follow the rules. Follow the rules and we will get along great.

passerby
Feb 27 2006, 04:07 AM
Mwahahaha**cough**choke**<ahem>
My real name is Janet, which you can call me unless you are ticked off . . .then you can use passerby (that way I'll know where you're coming from). Seriously, I'm not fussed by the use of either name, so which ever one flows off your fingertips.
I'm 28, almost 29 and you can use that handy GoF DVD countdown to figure out when I was born-I like to think of it as my own personal countdown to my birthday.
I live in Ohio. Yep. Not much else to be said on that.
I've been married for 6 years and have two great (though sometimes insane) children.
I'm a stay-at-home mom, but do have a degree in English and Literature (which I like to use on HP).
My favorite book is HBP. Favorite HP word is Peter Pettigrew (I like saying it with all that alliteration, it just rolls right off the tongue). My favorite character is Snape, I truly believe he's on of the greatest literary inventions in quite a while. My favorite movie is GoF, even though I'm the most critical of it too (find it really annoying). It's hard to have to juxtapose my hatred and love of something, but I think I can handle it.
That's me in a tiny nutshell. Oh, yes. . .I should give out my standard disclaimer-"Individual is highly sarcastic and dry-witted-take nothing at face value unless indivudual stresses that it is not a joke." (My humor doesn't translate well in cyberspace.)

secretkeeper
Feb 28 2006, 12:02 AM
Hi, I am Secretkeeper, many call me Secret which is what I prefer around the forums. I am another member of the all-mighty Inquisitorial Squad. Well we arn't that powerful but it sounded good.
I came to VTM to look for information about the HBP in April of last year. I got addicted quickly and have stayed here ever since. My favorite characters are the Weasley twins because I see them as the comic reliefe in the books and I love that about them. My favorite book is OotP but I don't know why but when I do I'll tell you.
I am a huge sports fan and I participate in a lot of sports, which a lot of you already know. Most of my year revolves around sports but I've decide to comitte to only 2 for now. I am a Junior in High School and I live in a subarb of Chicago. Umm... what else...umm I like sports...no already said that....I'm in high school ...said that too... umm... I guess there is nothing else to say really.
See you all around the Great Hall!

Feb 28 2006, 12:22 AM
HEYOOOOOO. I'm El Barto, but you guys can call me Chris. I'm an 18 year old freshman at Arizona State studying landscape architecture...for now at least. I'm starting to rethink why I even chose it...WHO KNOWS. I, too, am also a member of the Inquisitorial Squad...one of the three legs of the tripod if you will.
The desert is too hot or too cold. I've been living here since July 2005, before that I lived in Louisiana for a few years, and before that I lived in California. So I'm getting closer to my birthplace every other year. (I moved a month before Hurricane Katrina hit)
I like basketball, football, and other stuff...like holding hands and long walks on the beach...jk
I came to VTM last August, my first post was something about Snape being a vampire and Dana Scully set me right, along with the beginning of the Chapter Pole Chronicles...I didn't read the rules...but I think I got a little better since then...and Dana is now Michelle Dessler (I think). I've enjoyed posting in here, and I think most of my posts are in the RAB thread, which is under relentless assaults every day and there I am trying to keep my cool in there...which is kind of tough. Been a fan of Harry Potter ever since my aunt sent me the first two back in Christmas of 1999. Been downhill ever since...just kidding.

Feb 28 2006, 01:04 AM
An introduction thread... goody.
My name is Cori, hence my ultra boring screenname.
Let's see, I'm in my late twenties and I have have a six year old monster, I mean daughter. (She's a good kid, she's just six, need I say more.) I am a recreation director (a fancy title for playmate/babysitter

) at a center for mentally disabled/handicapped children. It's fun, and the kids are great to be around. In the fall, however, I will be starting graduate school, so hopefully soon I'll be a special education teacher. I live in New York and the city is only a train ride away.
My favorite HP book would have to be GoF, though I really did enjoy HBP.
That's about it. I look forward to seeing more of you all in The Great Hall.

Aethonon
Feb 28 2006, 02:07 AM
Hi, this is Aethonon, otherwise known as Darcy. I'm one of the super-oldies, being 44 now. I am an historic costumer and have my own business doing that. I work at home, and it gets really isolating, so I'm so glad to have discovered VTM!

I have one son, James, he is 19 and a huge HP fan as well! In fact, HP has brought us closer together this past year, as I read the books aloud to him, and he's a huge gamer and RPG-er, so he often has really good advice for my fanfics!

Strangely enough, as a HP fan, I'm one of the newest, having read SS/PS only last March and then had seen the three films at home, and went on to read the rest of the books. I was seriously grieving that the LOTR series of films was over, and had read those books, so I latched onto HP like a drowning woman latches onto a lifejacket! Fantasy is a literary genre I hadn't explored too much, preferring non-fiction and mystery stories, so it's been great fun!
I discovered VTM through a web search, and stuck to the homepage only for months before discovering the forums. Even then, I must admit I felt intimidated by all the rules, and so took my first steps in here on tiptoe, but now understand how important those rules are for creating a positive experience for everyone. Likewise, the extra rules for the Great Hall also intimidated me (I think it's because I'm a tree-hugging, Buddhist, semi-vegetarian, authority-questioning, almost-hippie, but maybe I'm wrong--lol) but Greg assured me that as long as I post like I usually do, it would be good experience. Time will tell ! Muahahahaha...oh wait, Janet already did the diabolical laughter...
So far I'm enjoying the Great Hall very much, but have so little time to devote to such important topics--feel quite bad about it really...having my latest fanfic chapter be more important is rather shallow isn't it? But I try to do both!
Off my introductory soapbox for now!
Just the Droobles
Feb 28 2006, 09:33 PM
Hi. How ya doin? Good? That's fantastic.
My screen name is Just the Droobles, as you can see *Points*. Some people call me JTD which was born out of the RAB thread (where me and Chris are trying not to lose our minds). Some call me Droobles which is fine too. But I recently picked up the name 'Droob' which I like even more. I'm a prefect. Yeah...*straightens badge* it's pretty nice. Couldn't be more thankful for my position.
My real name is Aubrey, but a lot of people new my by my screen name to well to type it. I'm 15, turning 16 this year, which makes me the second youngest person in here. I think. I'm a sophomore in high school. And, oh, I'm in Kentucky! Woo! One of the few states that gets all four seasons!
I stumbled across VTM when I was doing a search on...hmm...what was is...OotP cast maybe? I dunno. But I thought it was totally awesome so, I'm here! Favorite book--HBP, for more than one reason. Favorite movie--well this is tough. There were a lot of things that really annoyed me about the fourth one, but I still liked most of it. I think I'm still attached to the third though. I'm so pitiful I know like every line in that movie. And I am
not even joking. Favorite character--Ron. He's my homeboy. Holla! (Sorry you had to experience that). Favorite word--hmm. I actually am very fond of the word Veritaserum, which could be why I liked this site.

In the movie it was Serpentsortia!. I think it was that in the book too. I know nearly all the lines in that movie too. Not like PoA, but close.
Ok, I think I'm done ranting on about this stuff. Yep. And I'm gone.

Feb 28 2006, 10:54 PM
Hi, my name's Helen *waves* But feel free to call me Ygraine if you feel more comfortable with it. But do not call me Nellie.... it will not end well.

I'm from the North East of Bonnie Scotland, nothing more to say about that really, gets kinda cold... it's kinda boring, nothing much to do. I spend my days surfing the internet, and watching movies, and spending more time than's natural at my mates flat and in counsellors offices. Yes, I'm depressed, or have bi-polar disorder...were not too sure. I'm pretty open with my experiences, so feel free to ask me anything i won't mind

I love to write, and hope to be an author some day. I Also read lots, my favourite book being either Interview with The Vampire, Dune or Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy. Excluding HP of course. My favourite HP book is PoA. It's what made me like HP to Love HP. My two favourite characters are Remus Lupin and Severus Snape, in completely different ways though. Each in a league of their own.
What attracted me to VTM was the Green. Yes, this was a long time ago, about a year now, as well as the eerie green the GoF Cast list with Photos! Being a film buff i have an obession with cast list. You will find me in the Cinema at the end, just looking aimlessly at the names. I like to find funny ones. Having a funny surname myself, i think it's ok for me to do this

Ok... maybe I'm just a meanie.
As to favourite HP word? Hmmm, I'd have to agree with Janet that Peter Pettigrew is fun to say, but i also love the word Voldemort. I was fasinated with learning what Voldemort meant. And instead of just being smart and going tp HP Lexicon like most people. Wasted hours upon hours looking up the Latin, thinking that's where it came from. And was proudly saying that it meant 'Death Giver.'
Then i found out it was French and meant 'Fighter of Death.' I was rather gutted. ok ok....

i know
My Favourite spell is Lumos/Nox... or Wingardium Leviosa... don't ask why. they're just cool!

Ok.... I think i'm done now...

Helen, are you my Scottish counterpart? I'm usually the last one in the theater . . . my husband has already left the room and I'm still looking at the names, and disclaimers, and music, and that last little XXXIIIBVVVVCCC at the very end! My thinking is this: When I make it big into "the industry" I fully expect people to wait around to the end of the list to see my name (which is where mine would be) . . .so I can extend them the same courtesy.

Wingardium Leviosa is my favorite as well. At the HBP release party at Barnes & Noble, my two oldest girls made wands. For the next month they were going around saying that spell as well as "swish & flick" and "No No Sarah, its Wingardium Leviooosa".

My Turn!
I'm Nimbus, formerly Solorund, but my name is actually Shawn, and you can call me either of the names and I'll know you're talking to me

I came to VTM last spring in hopes of getting some HBP info and now I am a VTM addict. I am a secondary Education (English and Literature) at Buena Vista University. I also run track and I really like playing beach vollyball and watching disney channel- yeah I'm 20 and I watch the Disney channel, so what.
When it comes to HP, my favorite book is PoA, I think my favorite movie is PoA too. Harry is my favorite character,
Crucio is my favorite spell (just cause I like how it sounds), and my favorite non-trio character is Sirius..or was anyway

We've got a bit in common, janet. English and lit, and my sister's birthday is on March 7th too (you said yours was right?). Good thing too, because if it wasn't I'm not sure I'd remember her birthday
Secret, what suburb of Chicago are you from? I went to University of Iowa my first 3 semesters of college, and I swear half the students of that school are from a suburb of Chicago.

Greg, i have family in Canada... i think...is your brother in law Canadian?

Oooh, what else can i say about me? I'm an Alan Rickman obsessive.... i Love him... i want his babies... what... too much? Sorry...
I'm a girl and I'm 20, and i sold my womb to a mate called andy for a shot of Apple Sourz (true story)

. My religion is Hinduism.
I love to act and I am in Drama class. I would like to become a solicitor one day and perhaps move to UK
My favorite HP Book is HBP, though GOF is really close. My favorite HP Movie would be GOF. My favorite HP word would be Muggle(s). My favorite HP Spell would be the killing charm Avada Kedavra. I'd say I'm like Hermione.
My friends would describe me as a very smart, friendly and helpful person. But I can be stubborn and determined on my off-days. Especially with
wonderful FCAT coming in 2 weeks!
Anyways, I am an 8th Grader doing Advanced Classes A.K.A. Honors. I have a 4.0 G.P.A.

Hi everyone!
Just joined and so excited! Anyway, a bit about me...
I'm 18, South African, Afrikaans, a Christian and a first year computer engineering student at the University of Pretoria. I love history, politics, philosophy, cultural history, literature and languages, science, mathematics, sport, playing violin, travelling, reading etc.
I'm a very positive and excited person - I'm interested in anything!
I speak Afrikaans, English and German (though I'm not that fluent, yet) and I had Latin as a school subject. I'm very analytical about life - I always want to know
why . I like looking at the bigger picture and wondering about the fate of mankind...
Of course, I wouldn't be here if I wasn't HP crazy, but I'm also into Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, Anthony Trollope at the moment.
Alan Rickman is my other big hobby. He's just beyond good - the most underrated actor history has ever known!
Anyway, looking forward to seeing all of you around here!
Cheers!

*waves* Hi everybody!! Its nice to finally be here!
Great to see you all here...so, time to introduce, I guess?
I don't have much to say...I hate talking about myself. My name is David, you can call me that or "felix" or anything...I guess I prefer David, but who really cares?

I am basically your typical 14-year-old boy...school, friends, work, sports, girlfriend, eat, T.V., computer, etc.
I live in New York, not too far from the City, which is great I guess, except I am not such a 'city person'.....If I had to go with 5 words to describe me they would be: dedicated, smart, ditzy, athletic, and independent. I am a good student, I am focused and put my all into everything I do. I play a ton of sports...American football, baseball, tennis, basketball, golf, and volleyball. I like to play independet sports more than team sports (oh, look at that, one of my traits was independent as well!)...I guess I like being on my own team (ack..that sounded so snobbish)
I started reading Harry Potter a couple of months after PS/SS came out. My mom got it for me because she thought it sounded interesting. At the time I hated reading books, but I was hooked into the story after the first chapter. Ever since, I have loved books and I have loved the Harry Potter series (quite obviously

), so I guess I owe that to Jo Rowling.
Now to Harry Potter...that's why we are here, no?
My favorite book to date is Order of the Phoenix. I loved the action, the fighting, the maturity advancement of the characters, the relationship building (or lack thereof), and everything about it.
My favorite 3 characters are Albus Dumbledore, Hermione Granger, and Luna Lovegood. I feel that if you could break me up into 3 people, you would have them. Dumbledore is my wise and quick-thinking side; Hermione is my intelligent, dedicated side; and Luna is my ditzy and whacky side
Brief thoughts of HBP: Dumbledore is NOT dead, Snape is either good or "in it for himself," Lupin/Tonks is not going to last, Fawkes will become a vital point in Book 7.
Hmmm, I suppose that is it. See you all around the Great Hall!

Yeah, I know, I'm late again with posting. I somehow always start to post before introducing myself in a proper way. But here it comes:
Hi, I'm Laudine or Olivia, I don't care, both names are fine. But never call me Oli I really hate that.
I'm from Switzerland and study History and German literature and language at the University of Zurich. I'm passionate about History and made it my personal goal to read all classics in literature. So far I read Tolstoi, Eco, Dickens, Austen, Cervantes and of course a lot of German writers like Goethe, Schiller and Kleist. Sorry I'm getting off topic here.
Besides reading I like to dance Flamenco, my dad is Spanish so I sort of had to start that.

I love football. And lately I like to travel to England every two month (and yes I will do that tomorrow)

.
I joined VTM in July 2005 because I couldn't sleep all night after having finished HBP. I just couldn't believe Snape was evil so I looked for a Forum where I could discuss this. I am still a second year because I'm very busy as besides studying I have two jobs: I teach German and French in a tutoring school and I also work for a History professor at Uni in Zurich. So I'm quite busy, but I'll try my best.
That's all!

Well I'd better intro myslef for the newbiews..............all 8000 of them.
I'm Tahra, I live in Queensland Australi and I am a Taurus. I am stubborn and I live by two rules. 1 - Tahra is always right. 2 - If I am ever wrong re-read rule number 1. Nah just messing. I know facts and if someone comes along and says something that goes agaisnt the facts and tries to make it out as true then I can be a bit pushy to get my point across. I'm not a bad person though.
Umm, I have been on Veritaserum since like 2003, before Matthew made this new one. As you can see I'm member number 6. I had a 20 month break from here because my Tafe studies got in the way and only left me time to eat, sleep and watch the occasional tv show. But I'm back now and ready to wreak hovoc on the newbies! Kidding........
Ok, some random info for ya's.
Nicked this off a reply at the beginning:
Name: TriadOfDarkness, TOD, Tahra or Taz
Age: 20 nearly 21
Fav. HP book: PS/SS and POA
Fav. HP movie:..................none, I'm a books person
Fav. HP word/s: Gred and Forge
Fav. HP Spell: Peskipiksi Pesternomi - coz it doesn't work
Character I'm most like: Draco - well personality wise
Fav. HP Character/s: Fred and George, Lupin, Sirius, Snape, Hagrid
That should be it I think. Want to know anything else? Well PM me. Or post it in here..........or something.

Welcome everyone to the Duelling Club. It's a little late but better late than never. So we have South Africa, the US, Switzerland and Australia represented. What a nice cross section of people to have here, especially for discussions in the Forbidden Forest.
I hope you were far from the cyclone that hit Queensland Tahra. I live in Florida and we deal with it every year but I do not recall any that powerful hitting our state.
Welcome again everyone. I am looking forward to seeing you in the Great Hall.

Woohoo! Been waiting to post in here for
ages.
Right, well, where to begin. As you can see my screen name is Smee (and no, not because of Peter Pan

) but you can call me Emily or Em if you really want to. I'm 19 and live in Surrey in England. I left school a couple of years ago because i hated it and I currently work as a Martial Arts instructor but am applying to join the Army. I love reading; any book will do, i play the drums (though not very well it could be argued), i mountainboard (it's basically snowboarding but without the snow

), I love all kinds of music, as for TV shows there's too many to list; at present I'm watching Scrubs the most and, of course, I'm basically obsessed with Harry Potter. I ended up on Veritaserum while looking for information about GoF (movie) and have pretty much been living here since

. My ships are R/Hr and H/G and I blubbed for about an hour when I first read HBP (I think you know why).

woohoo! I'm in, I'm in!
well, I shouldn't make such a fuss, otherwise, our Inquisitorial Squad will kick me out of here... it's just that I'm happy to be able to post in the Great Hall.
Well, I don't like to talk about myself, because I usually tend to say way too much, but I'll try to make it short:
My screename is mxnhpfreak, and that's because I am a
me
xica
n Harry
Potter
freak. Yes, I was born in the land of tequila and mariachis yay! And very proud of it! Anyhoo... my real name is Claudia and as the rest of you, I don't mind being called either one of them, you can even call me Clo if you feel like doing it

I'm 18 and I study high school while work part time at a Real Estate Agency.
I became a HP fan after CoS movie, but I became a total freak after I saw PoA and read the first three books. Then I got the 4th and 5th book and started surfing the net downloading pictures and loads of info from every website I found. That was until I came across VTM, because when that happened I realized I had found my cyber-home

I love to spend time in Internet, or write, listen to good music (rock, mostly), read fan fiction, etc. I'm starting my very own HP site (in Spanish... I can't and won't get away from VTM) and I know is going to be a pain in the... well it's gonna be hard, but Harry's worth it!
It took me a while to pluck up the courage to post here in the forums, I guess I was a bit intimidated by the rules, just as Darcy (Aethonon) and I'm even more intimidated by the Great Hall strict rules, but I think I've been a good member so far... so let us hope that I remain that way. (Ash once told me my siggy was too big, but other than that I've been a good rule-abiding VTMer).
Oh gosh! it is too long! ah well, now you know a lot about me, don't you? More than you needed to, anyways...
EDIT: by the way, I apologize beforehand for my bad English. Well, truth be told I don't think it is terrible but I know it's not exactly good either.

hello, i received an e-mail weeks ago, saying that i would be able to begin posting here "in a few days". well, first let me tell you why i didn't wait a few days, but a few weeks: i was just very busy, i thought about leaving an exam for July, but then i was told that i HAD to take the exam the very next monday if i wanted to keep on studying. so i had to study a lot, by the way, i passed the exam! then the term began, and then i had a couple of religious feast (how should i called them?) so, this is the first time in weeks that i appear here, in the veritaserum forum. thank for allowing me to this forum!!! i hope i won't let anybody down.
well, here it goes: I'm Rajel, from Argentina, i'm 25 and i study and i have two jobs (this is normal in this country...

you need two jobs to survive). I am a total harry potter freak, pottermaniac, whatever you want to call it. i don't only read the books, i made people read them: more or less te persons began to read harry potter (and went mad with it) because of me.
ok, i hope we'll have a good and interesting time here, bye!
ps: how could i forgot, i own a cat.

yeah, I finally got in too, with my second attempt. I totally messed up with first application, but that probaply doesn't intterest you, so maybe it's better get to subject.
Name: you can use my username marire, or my real name, Mari.( And I have to warn you that I'm terrible what comes remembering names, so don't get offended if I'm reffering to you with username, although you wish some another. It's not personal.)
Country: Finland
Age: 18
Fav. HP book: Half-Blood prince
Fav. HP spell: accio
VTM: As you can see, I started here in July 2005. I had just read Half-Blood prince and I was desperate to find some info of book seven. Then I found Veritasserum thorough Google and wandered to Forums. Rest is history...

Hey!
Im ILoveHarryPotter07, or Courtney, or as my friends call me Court, you can feel free to call me anyone of the three they all work. I'm a 16 year old Sophamore in High School in Massachusetts U.S.A. The movies and malls are a town over!! lol
My interests are Harry Potter (duhh..) Chilling with the awesomest people in the world, my family and friends. I love to laugh and make jokes, and in generally live my life and have fun. Although I am a very serious student. I am a book FREAK..I will read pretty much anything.
I can't really pick a favorite HP book cause I don't have one..But spell would be Mordmorse..because I love the way it sounds..and Accio..because at times I am lazy and would love to be able to get anything I wanted with the flick of a wand.
Well thats all I got..Sorry I bored you all! LOL...if you have any questions or just wanna chat..PM me!

Jun 10 2006, 06:23 PM
Hello to you all!
I am here, finally!!!

I was dying to post here since I started to read frecuently some of the threads. So when I finished my semester I decided to apply.
I am pretty bad with presentations, it is easy if people just ask me but I`ll try to do my best.
My user name as you can see is Bendis. That is because my real name is Diana and I love mythology so, since my name is the one of a deity I know as many traductions of it as I could have found. Feel free to call me as you prefer (I had a school partner that used to call me Maria, why? I have no idea, so call me as you wish but make sure I understand that you are refering to me

)
I am a second year art and philosophy student but I started in college as chemical engineering student. Oh and I`m from Bogota, Colombia. My english is not really good but that is one of the reason which I am here: I want to practice it. This and that I love Harry Potter, books (in general) and exchange ideas, between other things.
If you want to know anything else check my profile or PM me.
I`m very glad to see some more South-American people here! Yay! and I`m very happy to meet people from all around the world.
See you in the hall guys!

Hi there Di!

So glad you're here, mate!
I love how you came up with your username - I didn't realise. Anyway, you've posted some very good posts already - I always enjoy reading what you say! And this site has also helped me improve my English - especially the Great Hall

Anyway, welcome and enjoy!

Hi, I finally applied to join the Great Hall, to be honest I put it off because I wasn't sure that I would be able to contribute sufficiently, and now that I have been accepted I'm easing myself in gently

with an introduction -
(thanks for accepting me)My real name is Sam
(Samantha), I'm 23 and from England
(which may surprise you given my appaling english), I have used 'Velvet' as a user name for some time as she was my favorate female character in the Mallorean series of books
(a series following the Belariad series). So please feel free to call me either Sam or Velvet
To be honest I guess most of this post will be highly plagarised from my profile
(sorry) I'm currently attempting my Masters in neuroscience, with the hopeful aim of eventually getting my Phd in it and going on to become a researcher
(everything crossable is crossed).I started off doing psychology but soon realised that I prefered the biological and neurological side of things so I changed my degree course to neuroscience and have never looked back
(well maybe, during those early morning last-minute cramming sessions
). I am specialising in affective disorders and more specifically (
at the moment) the HPA axis and stress. Which I find facisnating as stress has been documented as being the main link between the psychological and biological, and it appears to affects almost everything
(at the moment I am concentrating on its effects upon working memory). However, I have enjoyed other aspects of the course - like the frontal lobes, pharmacological treatments (
and addictions) and memory disoders (
such as Korsakoffs syndrome) - although I am completely hopeless when it comes the brain imaging techniques and statistics
(I try to make all of my labs ANOVA because it is the only one I really know how to write up
). Sorry I'll shut up about it now, I do tend to ramble on
I love music, espcecially cheesy
(late 80s/ early 90s) rock and metal - with my favorate bands being Guns and Roses and Faith no More - although my music collection
(all legally downloaded of course *ah hem* ) ranges from enya to deicide so there is quite a bit of variety
I've been with my boyfriend for 6 years, and we have lived with each other jst over 4 of those years - although me being the sterotypical selfish only-child
(hey, thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it), I did find the transition from living alone to suddenly having the person who moves the forks and changes where the plants live quite daunting - but I've just about come to terms with it
(*double checks for missing cups and cutlery*). We have a kitten
(ok so she is about 1 1/2 years old now but I am still adament that she is a kitten) called Dusty - shes a blue persian who needs to learn that feet aren't toys
I love reading in general and have fallen in love with the Harry Potter books, with my favorate thus far being The Order of the Phoenix. Although I prefer the books over the films
( I usually do, so its not a reflection on the films per se), my favorate film was the Prisoner of Askaban - and since my favorate character is Sirius , thats no real surprise
(and my favoratism of him has nothing to do with how hot he is *coughs*)I think you may be all be please to hear (
erm...read) that I've just gone blank and really can't think of anything else to put, I'm sure that I've forgotten lots that I'll remember later - sorry for being so long and boring
I hope to see you soon in the *drum roll* Great Hall and hope that I , eventually, contribute something meaningful. I'd be happy to respond to any PMs and to get to know you all better
thanks for reading this

I had to double take there! I though for a moment that you said we have a
kitchen and i was like... yes... yes most people do... Oh... a
Kitten! I was getting dreadfully confused when you were saying she's one and a half now.... my brain, it couldn't take it. The age of kitchens...
Oh Now i want to tell everyone why i chose my username!!

Ahem... I chose Ygraine because....
I read it somewhere.
Ok, ok... not quite the real reason, (actually I did read it somewhere but that's not why i chose it) It's pronouced
Egrain just incase you were sitting infront of the computer doing an impression of an er... contaspated sheep, going 'Why-grain-eee?' Anyway... yes. And it's King Arthurs mother. I love myths and legends so yeah, that's why i chose it.

(there is another reason but i'm not going to tell you

Hi fellow Duelling Club members!
I didn't really think I would be accepted here but I am. (Thankyou David!

)
Well, for those who don't know me, I am a 13year old girl from New South Wales, Australia. I am in year 8 at a Catholic high school and plan on going to university when I'm 18 to study teaching or bussiness, maybe even something to do with music because it is one of my passions. I love acting but I am very shy.
I can sing, play piano and play violin as well as write music (not well but I once wrote a song) and am currently doing exams for violin. My favourite music is rock and pop mainly from the 60's,70's and 80's but I also like some from the 90's and now.
Harry Potter, to me, is as important as water, food and oxygen because nobody can be lonely when they have a Harry Potter book with them to read, so I love debating related issues.
Since a few people have said where there username came from, well mine:
Caitlin-my first name
in Australia-I live down under.
It is really straight forward.
My dad found VTM in May last year when he was finding Half-Blood Prince information for me because I couldn't be bothered to look myself. I just used the site to find out the latest news but then joined the forums in July, now I can't leave.
Well that is basically it except I like to be called by my nickname, Caity, because I know so many Caitlin's (Kaitlin, Katelin, Caitlan, et cetera...) In Japanese my name is Keitarin(I study Japanese).

O.k. i thought i should probably post here, due to my resurrected interest in the Great Hall....
My name (surprisingly) is Nick Hilton. I came up with my esteemed username in a moment of fleeting realisation, a.k.a. the fact that i had never been on any forum before and just put my name down. But now i've used it on every Harry Potter forum i've joined, so i guess it's staying....
I'm thirteen, and go to school in the UK. I'm half Polish and half Scottish, and i live during the holidays in New York state. I go to boarding school, so most of the time i'm on here, i'm typing from my school. Anyhow i obviously like Harry Potter, but i also have a general interest in films. I am a big football (soccer) fan and support the mighty West Ham United, and Poland on an international level. My favourite sport to play is tennis, which i also like watching, and have been to the Wimbledon championships three years in a row now...(to watch, not to play

) Come on Rafa!
I found VTM over a year ago, but only really started posting consistantly the summer after that. I come online much more during the holidays than in the term time...After from that i like reading and writing. My favourite TV programs are Scrubs, Borat and Hustle. I have a sister and two parents who are seperated, and i have three hounds....a.k.a dogs....
That's it from me...

Ah joy. No more error message saying I am not allowed to post in here *lol*. A pleasure to have been accepted and have the opportunity to share my thoughts with the rest of you folks.
Although my screen name here is quite simple my name is Chris. I answer to either so feel free to use either. Let's see a bit about me I currently live in South Carolina in the United States. I was formerly all over the world. I was in the military for the past 8 years and have been to more countries than I can remember. I am old

. I got into the HP craze quite by accident really. I had seen the movies of course but not read the books until HBP came out. I bought the book for a reason other than reading it and then got bored and actually read it. That set me out to buy the first 5 books which I read within 2 weeks.
I then surfed away to see if I could find a good forum that discussed theories and other ascpects of HP with some modicum of intelligience and came across this great site. I have been thouroughly impressed with the discussions that take place here and the excellent job the admins, mods and staff do of runnings things so smoothly.
So I think that should be enough to qualify as an introduction and I look foward to contributing my thoughts in the debates here

Hi, my name is Sierra. As you can see, I've been a member forever, but hardly post. I guess I am more of a reader. As for my username/real name, I don't care what is used. I picked Margeaux because I like the way it is spelled, and Black because of my buddy Sirius.
I am 18, and from the extremely hot Arizona(I hate it when people try to justify the heat by saying it is a 'dry heat'). I moved here about 8 years ago from California(sacramento area). This August I will be starting at ASU, yay!
I found HP when OoTP came out in paperback, and I noticed that it was on sale in my local Wal-Mart. From the first chapter, I was hooked, and quickly bought up the rest of the series. OoTP is my favorite, probably because it was the first I read.
Hmm, I mainly enjoy boring my friends with my theories for book seven. I know everything I say goes in one ear, and out the other, but they are kind enough to smile and nod, so everything's ok.
Well, I am not sure what else to say, so, I am happy to have been made a member, and I guess i'll see you all in the threads!

Welcome Back Nick!
Welcome to the Great Hall Chris and Sierra. If you have any questions or need help just let myself or one of the other Inquisitorial Squad members know.
Sierra your post on the "Dry Heat" made me laugh. Being from Florida I would love some of your dry heat. Nothing is worse than 95F and 100% humidity. I did spend four summers in Texas growing up so I know all about the dry heat. I do not care what the humitidity is, 110F is still hot. Being a typical boy in the seventies I rarely wore shoes. Walking on rocks barefoot during a Texas summer will get you moving real quick.
Chris I think you hit on the very reason I signed on with Veritaserum and stuck around. It is the best place on the internet for discussions about Harry Potter. We have the best posters here. The staff has really set up a great system to encourage good debates and I love it.
Welcome again everyone. If you have any suggestions for the Great Hall please post them in our suggestions thread. We are always looking for new ideas on improving this area.

Sorry for reposting on this thread but that response to my initial post made me chuckle, our kitchen is definately older than a year old (unfortunately)

although a slight update is in order - she has now accepted that feet are toys and is concentrating more on curtains
______
I have loved reading all of you introduction posts (althoug admittedly I have focused mainly on the ones subsequent to my own - I'm lazy, perhaps I should have added that particular detail in my introduction') it is amazing how varied and widespread the love of Harry Potter goes
Sieraa - I am the same as you, I bore all of my friends to tears with my theories, but fortunately mine too, are very patient and smile and nod.
I too loved reading about the heat you have to suffer, I'm from England (
we typically have about a week cumulative of summer - during which everyone dashes down to the beach in the desperate hope of catching the smallest of sun-tans, although at the moment it is very very hot here so we are all complaining because we just aren't used to it - but no doubt we will complain again when it has gone and the rain is back

I agree completely, The rule concerning 'No-One-Liner- allows for a greater in-depth discussion of the topic concerned, ratehr than having post after posting reiterating 'i agree' or 'No way' which you get on a majority of forums - So Thankyou Veritaserum

Hello all I'm glad i can finally post in here. My screen name gives my real name away.. bethany. Im 26 and i live here in the USA. I live in colorado springs where we are literley surrounded by the military. Norad to the west united states ariforce academy to the north peterson and schriever airforce bases to the east and fort carson(army) to the south. we're also the home of pikes peak which inspired America the beutiful(song) but enough of my beutiful state I'm not even a native, i was born in michigan. so a little about my self
I entered Potterdom while some friends were watching CoS. I actually was one of those anti potter people due to religous beliefs. well after watching CoS and thenSS then seeing PoA in the theater i seeked out the books and there i was turned to a true potterfreak. thats the term used in my area. Harry potter got me to change my views on several things and now myHP cause is to stand up to christians and christian organizations that are anti-potter.
But anyway my fav book is Oh i dont know they change constantly but i really like SS. The excitement of harry getting to discover his new world. favorite movie hmmm i think SS after i saw an extended version, that version makes it a little more bookish. my favorite quote from all the books and movies are displayed in my signature "why dont you go play with your chemistry set" serious. but Mental that one by ron is right up there also.
I'm known around my personal HP circle as the biggest potterfreak I hosted a GoF premier party last year and it got coverage in the paper. I'm already planning my OotP party. the one thing i want to start collecting is the books in other languages. I love British culture and Im currently planning and saving for my dream trip to Britian.
I reallly enjoy veritaserum and im known in the pre book7 forum as believing in some out there horcuxes(in what i think they may be).i post there all the time. Veritaserum in my opinion has the best forum, its well organized and easy to use. I searched through many other options but this was the best.
thanks for allowing me to join im going to stop now cuz this is getting long oh and please excuse my grammar im horrible at spelling and puncuation.

Jul 24 2006, 10:06 PM
Hello everyone. I think it's high time I got back into debate mode and brushed up on formal writing in the process.
I prefer to be called by my username (Bandoth if you haven't yet looked who is posting (doubtful)) seeing as I am slightly paranoid about giving out information on myself on the internet (slightly being the operative word). I live in Minnesota in the US and am currently enjoying a wet day indoors. I turned 15 this past December and am looking forward to my driver's license in a few months.
My favorite book has to be OotP. It captured the anger, resentment, and frustration Harry should feel on his journey. If I had to pick a least favorite, I'd have trouble picking between CoS and HBP.
I don't have much more to say about myself except that I hope it's not too hot out after this. Humidity really, really stinks when it comes to 100 degrees outside...

Hi all
I'm Elaine, I've been posting on VTM for a few months now and it's definately the easiest site to navigate.
Glad to be in the Great Hall at last.
For those of you who don't know me, I'm an 'oldie'. I've been a big HP fan since day one, book one!
I don't get as much time to post as I'd like as I am mum to 3 and wife to 1!
I don't have a job as such, but I do volunteer at a school and of course I do the housey things!
I love reading, my Mini, and my kids. I hate (strong word) Tom Cruise movies and dirt!
I have just finished 2 years of college where I've been taking a couple of courses to retrain as a teachers assistant.
Well that's me, I hope to 'see' you around
